ZuccaGet the veal chop!Second visit, three years after the first. delighted to see that standards are still as high. Absolutely delicious food18/05/2013 00:00:00I've been to Zucca RestaurantI've been to Zucca Restaurant on Bermondsey Street in London on many occasions. It is consistently one of my all-time favourite restaurants. The wine selection is interesting and eclectic, the service is always friendly and engaging and the legendary veal chop is to die for!16/05/2013 00:00:00Birthday DinnerI surprised my boyfriend with a reservation for us on Tuesday evening. I made the reservation in February and received an email confirmation a day before but also a phone call from the Zucca to let me know they could pop a candle in Laurence's dessert :-)
We found the waiters discrete but friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. They were so efficient you barely noticed them. However, they were mystically present whenever you needed them.
The food was a delight! We ordered the calves liver & grilled squid. They were both cooked and presented to perfection. My boyfriend was so impressed, and for once I had to help him finish his portion as the squid was extremely generous in size! We can't wait to return.
Thank you!
F & L x14/05/2013 00:00:00Fantastic placeZucca is a very unique restaurant - fantastic food, clean modern interior and great service paired with a fairly casual ambiance = winning formula. Seasonal items and a changing menu means I would happily go weekly. Hard to believe this is not a star-ed restaurant!12/05/2013 00:00:00Can't fault anything about itImpeccable service, lovely atmosphere and delicious, well presented food. Good value for money, considering the high quality of the food and service. We couldn't believe it when the bill came to just over £40 per person for three courses and a glass of wine each (including service). Book early, especially for the weekends.11/05/2013 00:00:00Great food and wonderful placeA place worth another visit, great place and wonderful food, thumbs up10/05/2013 00:00:00A little piece of cool Milan in SE1Love, love, love Zucca – always an exceptional experience. Food is quietly and unostentatiously fantastic. Funky, cool room – love the "canteen" feel – and plate after plate of superb flavours and textures. We shared everything and ordered about 5 starters, 3 pastas and 2 mains between us – heaven.
Superb Italian wine list, not crazy prices. Great staff, excellent laid-back atmosphere. Love it.08/05/2013 00:00:00DeliciousVery classy cooking of Italian-style food with fresh ingredients. Loved the squid starter - new on the menu, please keep it! Pastas are superb. Wonderful flavours. The menu is brief but has plenty of choice and there are specials. Service is attentive and friendly and there are extra staff to keep an eye on the room in case anyone is missing something. Tables are nicely spaced so you can feel the 'buzz' without overhearing every word. We immediately booked a return visit and recommend it highly but you need to be organised and book well in advance.08/05/2013 00:00:00Lunch at ZuccaVery good lunch at Zucca - Excellent monkfish and razor-clam starter, followed by very tasty rabbit with Polenta. Desserts not quite up to the same standard. Very likely to return.04/05/2013 00:00:00Best Italian everI have been surprised at some reviews read elsewhere on this place. The food was out of this world, I cannot say how good it was. The 'fritti', cured ham, marinated pork we shared for a starter and OMG amazing. The mains were equally as lovely as was the assistance in chosing the wine (hilarious that the food menu is literally one side of A4 yet the wine list is a massive folder!). Something for all tastes, there are some superb high priced wines but also many which are easily affordable. £220 for four people, three courses and two bottles of wine - that is a bargain in my eyes. Thank you Zucca we will be back (as soon as we can get booked in!).03/05/2013 00:00:00Eccezionale!Having meant to come to this restaurant for years and I decided my wife's last birthday before giving birth to our 1st child was a good enough reason to finally make the effort. Having lived in Italy and knowing what Italians appreciate rather than the bog-standard drivel served in many an Italian eaterie in the UK, it was thoroughly refreshing to eat Italian-inspired food that was brilliantly cooked and the staff ensured my wife was aware of what she could eat without worry. Everything from the fantastic breads served as an antipasto to the expertly and silky-textured pasta, the amazing veal chop, the light, moreish and frankly huge plate of 'zucche fritte' starter to the scrummy desserts made this a memorable experience. Torneremo presto!28/04/2013 00:00:00Wonderful as alwaysI love Zucca and am always happy to take guests. Also, the high street is lovely for a pre or post dinner drink or a walk. The staff are lovely and helpful and knowledgeable. The drinks list is great and the food delicious and fresh and always changing. Sometimes when it gets super busy the smell of oil from the open kitchen can get a little overpowering. That said, I'll be back again and again!27/04/2013 00:00:00ExcellentVery high quality food and service. Wine list expensive, but food very good value.27/04/2013 00:00:00WonderfulWe visited Zucca for the Ligurian evening. The food on the limited menu was uniformly wonderful and the service excellent. Very pleased with the visit25/04/2013 00:00:00WonderfulSpectacular food in a great setting on a picturesque street.24/04/2013 00:00:00Amazing ItalianSuperb food and very good service, this was a wonderful Saturday lunch20/04/2013 00:00:00Never fails to disappoint.Never fails to disappoint. Wonderful flavour combinations and fresh ingredients treated with respect.19/04/2013 00:00:00the food was amazing, thethe food was amazing, the waiters very knowledgeable and helpful. overall fantastic18/04/2013 00:00:00another birthday meal to remember! My 3rd year of birthdaying at Zucca and yet again a delicious decision; where else could one share & enjoy a marvellously moist, flavour packed slice of cake for dessert after a sensational meal. Never has polenta seemed less a peasant dish and my octopus was (as ever) outstanding. Thank you again for an excellent meal. A luxurious lunch indeed.14/04/2013 00:00:00Zucca still deliversI have been a regular diner at Zucca since it opened. Standards remain at very high levels on every means by which a restaurant experience should be measured. Prices have risen a little quite recently to just about take it down from the Outstanding rating for value. Zucca is still close to the very top of my preferred London restaurant list. Whilst all the staff are attentive and caring, I feel I must again single out Gianfranco and Bianca for their unrivalled expertise, service and warmth.10/04/2013 00:00:00ExcellentSecond visit, over a year apart, and its still brilliant. Cannot fault it at all. Gorgonzola pasta was perfect, sea bass carpaccio is so beautifully dressed. Veal chop is huge but literally melts your mouth with how juicy it is. husband didnt particularly enjoy the usage and lentils though. Polenta side was good as well. Worth very penny. Glad to see tables and chairs replaced.09/04/2013 00:00:00another excellent meal at zucca...one of the best restaurants in London. we've visited zucca 10+ times now and it keeps going from strength to strength. Recommended!!06/04/2013 00:00:00Great food and service thank youWent to Zucca on Saturday for a family meal for my Mum's birthday after a trip up the Shard. Great service, there was a 2 hour turnaround on the table, but we didn't really notice as the service was so attentive and everything came at a good pace. The sommelier recommended a good wine, and the starters and mains were delicious. The starters weren't very big, but that meant we could enjoy mains and dessert! I had called in advance to ask if they could put some birthday candles on our dessert for my Mum (it was a significant birthday!) and this was no problem and done very nicely - so that it was a nice surprise but not too much fuss. All in all great food and service, thank you very much.06/04/2013 00:00:00Top-of-the-class ItalianAlthough prices seem to be rising, this is still the best value London restaurant serving outstanding Italian produce in simple but delicious dishes. Its obvious competitor is River Cafe and whilst you won't get Michelin star treatment here, nor views of the Thames, you will feel the benefit in a bill less than half that of its more famous equivalent. Our recent experience was startlingly good from small but perfect antipasti through fabulous home-made pasta and substantial main courses to better desserts than you will find in Italy itself. With a good Negroni and an Aperol spritzer, excellent wines by the glass and proper espressos, our total bill was only £125 once a tip was added.05/04/2013 00:00:00Great restaurantWe went with friends who had not visited before. Great meal, friendly staff. Had a lovely time05/04/2013 00:00:00I'd go back every week if I couldThe zucchini fritti alone are enough to keep me going back. Add to that the friendly service, great sommelier who won't turn his nose up at cheap and cheerful and beautiful surrounds and this is one of the great London restaurants. Sophistication without stuffiness.02/04/2013 00:00:00Great Italian restaurantI went to Zucca for lunch on Good Friday. The restaurant was packed but the service was impeccable and the food was absolutely fantastic. Will definitely go back and try some different dishes, everything looked so good!29/03/2013 00:00:00The food was great- i hadThe food was great- i had an ok starter (but it comprised of a main ingredient i was unsure of - destined to be hit and miss) main was delicious though. setting is clinical, mainly white walls, glass, nice looking place, but the feature I pointed out was bare concrete pillars, so more business than special occasion. service was mainly good, we had waitress who was happy to advise on the menu when I was indescisive, but also occasionally left us hanging.. But it was packed.. at Thursday lunchtime, which is testament to food. I would go back, One more veal chop... And they made my dad happy on his birthday28/03/2013 00:00:00Tuscana nightOne of Zucc'a special nights where they celebrate regional cooking, in this case Tuscany.
Great food, lovely choice of wine and a perfect table in the window28/03/2013 00:00:00We enjoyed an excellent mealWe enjoyed an excellent meal at Zucca, as always, and the service was attentive yet unobtrusive.27/03/2013 00:00:00Zucca fantasticoAmazing as I remembered. Highly recommend the Zucca fritti and ragu. Huge choice of fine wines. Plan ahead as securing a booking can be hard.
Still my favourite Italian in London.27/03/2013 00:00:00simply deliciousA quick and delicious lunch at the bar was perfect for a midweek lunch. The menu is not overly complicated but the dishes are filled with complex flavours and all so satisfying.27/03/2013 00:00:00Very good food and not too expensivWine is excellent. Always ask the sommelier for advice on wine choice after you have ordered food. Food is a pleasure to eat. Staff are friendly and helpful. Completely unpretentious. One niggle: one is reminded of the table booking too often. Overall, highly recommended. I don't know a better Italian restaurant at this price.26/03/2013 00:00:00Great food!

A real winner!!!26/03/2013 00:00:00great food . . .but . .the chairs are simply one of the most uncomfortable I've had the displeasure of sitting on in my entire life . . .change the seats and the place gets a 10!23/03/2013 00:00:00Top Italian Food, brilliant pricesDont normally write reviews but Really enjoyed our meal here, best london restaurant we have been to for ages. The food is absolutely fantastic and Reminded us of the river cafe but with a far better bill! Can have 3 courses for around £25-30pp plus wine (great italian wine list, helpful sommelier). Would recommend to anyone, we will most certainly be back!21/03/2013 00:00:00Bermondsey ItalianAlways full, always very good. The menu is quite short but always has unfamiliar dishes.Likewise the wine list unless you're an Italian. Don't park outside or you'll get a ticket.20/03/2013 00:00:00WonderfulThere is Italian and Italian. This is the genuine thing, with fresh, colourful and delicious dishes bursting with flavour and deceptively simple-looking yet quite sophisticated. House wine by the glass was outstanding; service very friendly and efficient. Our dishes arrived promptly with just the right time between them not to feel rushed. Whether it's for a private 1on1 or a business lunch, I Cannot recommend highly enough.20/03/2013 00:00:00Great food but much more crampedGreat food but much more cramped than when last visited 2 years ago.19/03/2013 00:00:00FantasticFantastic food and service as always. The casarecce with pork and fennel ragu must be the best pasta dish in London. Happy days when it is on the menu.19/03/2013 00:00:00Yucca was GreatOne of the best Italian restaurants we have visited for some time. Excellent authentic Italian cooking, in a lively clean fresh environment. Meals cooked to orde within your sight. Staff very courteous and friendly. We will definitely return14/03/2013 00:00:00An all over pleasureThe food was outstanding, staff helpful and polite and the room itself was understated elegance. A very pleasant lunch experience I would happily repeat.07/03/2013 00:00:00Pleasant Saturday lunchZucca is a bright, lively and intimate place offering some interesting twists on an Italian dining theme. Portions appear to be small but are very filling. The staff are welcoming and very efficient and they dealt with our vegetarian request very well indeed. The menu is not too extensive but they were able to adapt the options in a bespoke way to provide us with meat and fish-free alternatives. It's a great place for people watching through the large windows and it sits in a location which appears to be quite lively and 'happening' (or at least on the verge of it). It's also very close to The Shard if you're visiting the View from the Shard.23/02/2013 00:00:00outstanding food and serviceoutstanding food and service and an excellent wine list all in a very comfortable setting, the type of place you could eat regularly and not tire of17/02/2013 00:00:00Great meal at ZuccaI thouroughly enjoyed Zucca. Simple but tasty dishes and a great buzzy atmosphere. Not cheap but I thought worth the money. Some of my friends were a little less impressed as the menu was quite short - but I think they're being picky!15/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent meal, very goodExcellent meal, very good service. Calf liver was amazing! Pasta with mussels was excellent. You can tell it's all fine ingredients - that's what makes it delicious!15/02/2013 00:00:00zucca is a wonderful restaurantThe food is lovely and fresh and delicious.
