Wild Garlic Restaurant and RoomsPause. Taste. Savour.A delightful evening with an extensively varied take on the traditiona. The staff were friendly and personal whose knowledge was vast and their recommendations exquisite.07/06/2013 00:00:00A real gemFabulous food, really fresh ingredients, wonderful taste and very well presented. Attentive service, not overdone. Four course lunch for two including glass of wine each, less than £80. Very good value, will certainly go again.30/05/2013 00:00:00six course taster menuSimply superb- got Groupon voucher for this so we had 2 for the price of 1 normally- but an absolute exquisite journey of tastes and beautifully presented food. Our favourite dish was the chicken dish but each course was a delight- couldn't eat much for the rest of the day. Thank you Wild Garlic we'll be back!! xxx23/05/2013 00:00:00An unforgettable experienceThis is definitely the best restaurant we have eaten at in the surrounding area, and there are many good onesl to choose from. The quality of the ingredients was very high, the dishes were well cooked, the presentation imaginative and the service as one would expect. We couldn't fault any aspect of the lunch and will certainly return soon.17/05/2013 00:00:00No.1 RestaurantYet again, the service and the food was excellent quality. This restaurant really is a superb find and if you appreciate good food and service, then this is the place for you - go on, give it a try - you know you want to!11/05/2013 00:00:00a unique restaurantliving quite away from Wild Garlic means not very frequent visits, but have been going since it opened and have never been disappointed. The menu is imaginative, and they have an excellent chef who is happy to answer questions on his cooking methods. The front of house service is excellent and friendly, making sure you are happy and satisfied when you leave. I always go when ever possible, and recommend it for a special meal.10/05/2013 00:00:00Early supper deal was greatWe enjoyed the early supper deal at Wild Garlic the other week. Great for a Friday night treat. Delicious choices, well presented and a lovely choice of wines available to choose from. A real local gem.10/05/2013 00:00:00Attentive , welcoming . WeAttentive , welcoming . We had driven over 100 miles to the arboretum and looked at many places to eat . This did not disappoint.09/05/2013 00:00:00Superb SundayI booked a lunch for a 2 course meal for 2 people. The service was perfect, not intrusive, but there when you needed to be served. The food was absolutely delightful, both in terms of presentation and flavour. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will certainly look to going back.05/05/2013 00:00:00Wow! I have food allergiesWow! I have food allergies and am used to getting treated like a second class citizen. Not here! These guys made me my own custom menu - I'm not used to actually having choices, and what lovely choices they were. Their food shows an understanding of and respect for flavor and texture; they have creative foods, but not over the edge "weird", just interesting. The table had fun trying the various appetizer and main options out. Great gluten free bread - usually GF bread tastes like cardboard! Courteous, warm service. So very pleased with our experience!04/05/2013 00:00:00GROUPON VOUCHER EXPERIENCEThe starters and main course were absolutely delicious. The roast beef was cooked perfectly and served with delicious veg. The starters were lovely too. Paid an extra £3 for desserts, Well worth the money.28/04/2013 00:00:00Great Sunday lunchGreat Sunday lunch in a lovely location. Excellent food, well matched wine and great service.28/04/2013 00:00:00Very wekcomingWe went on a groupon offer, having heard good reports about this restaurant.
Really enjoyed it, we will be back.28/04/2013 00:00:00An Excellent EveningA group of 6 of us visited on a fairly quiet weekday evening and had the 6 course sampling menu which was on a reduced price offer. We expected the food to be very good based on previous visits and were not disappointed. The initial welcome was very friendly, the menu and each course was explained as it was served and service was excellent throughout. When asked which course was our favourite we all had different opinions. The "Paroffie" dessert was particularly inventive and served with some theatrics. It was a little bit on the sweet side for some of us, but still very enjoyable. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in the area, which is not short of good eating places. Highly recommended.24/04/2013 00:00:00Six courses to tempt your tastebudsWow! What can I say, the food was delicious, every mouthful a delight for the senses. The presentation was mouthwatering and imaginative. The service was was engaging without being over the top or intrusive. I would highly recommend the Wild Garlic to all who enjoy good food. Bravo!!!!21/04/2013 00:00:00A great find!My partner and I went to the Wild Garlic for Sunday lunch and will definitely go back.
The menu wasn't extreme but a lovely choice to cater for all palettes.
The ambience was lovely and we'll probably go for dinner next time.
The service was quite attentive and very quick so we had no long gaps between courses.
I'm glad we've found this place and would recommend to anybody for lunch or dinner.14/04/2013 00:00:00DinnerCelebrating wifes birthday, food excellent, service was slow.13/04/2013 00:00:00Six course tasting menu was a treatWe enjoyed a superb meal at Wild Garlic with friends at the weekend. Delicious range of well presented courses. Service was informative and attentive without being overly fussy. We particularly liked the little scrambled eggs and chorizo and the Salt Marsh Lamb was stunning. Fabulous pud too, all of which surpassed our expectations. Well done, we will be back.13/04/2013 00:00:00The tasting menu was a delightThe tasting menu was a delight for the senses and there was definitely a playful element with the presentations. The food was delicious. However it was slightly let down by a slow service, but my no means did this spoil our evening.13/04/2013 00:00:00A special palce; a special meal( thWe have visited Wild Garlic on several occasions and each time have been very impressed. On this occasion we were accompanied by two friends who had never been before. Everything was fantastic, we had the taster menu and it was a memorable meal. The service was superb and friendly. The wine was outstanding although one of the cheapest on the list. We mentioned that it would be nice if the chef came out to meet diners ( he is also the owner) and he did! It was wonderful to be able to give to him directly the praise he so well deserved. .12/04/2013 00:00:00Fab foodBeatiful food and lovely service. Some really interesting inovative food.05/04/2013 00:00:00All round great experienceMy mother and I enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu for Lunch. It was a real treat. Delicious food that went together wonderfully and fast, friendly and helpful service. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone and am already looking forwards to returning there to try more of their menu and creations very soon.04/04/2013 00:00:00Our second visit to Wild GarlicOur second visit to Wild Garlic was just as rewarding as the first. Greeted by friendly staff, we were quickly moved (at our request) to a preferred area of the dining rooms. We again admired the interior design of the rooms and enjoyed the gentle jazz-based background music.
The Good Friday sharing menu was outstanding, from the crunchy rosemary focaccia bread starter to the tiny, rich truffles, soft biscotti and fennel seed meringues to finish. Serving sizes were just right, the fish was beautifully fresh and tasty, and the accompanying veg and salads delicious. The care and expertise put into each plate was incredible, and the staff were knowledgeable, helpful and prompt.
We will definitely return again to this very special restaurant.29/03/2013 00:00:00First class dining. From your initial welcome to your departure you will receive attentive and friendly service. The atmosphere and staff are relaxed and informal but not intrusive. The present manager has done much to improve the service eg has completely closed off the bar area so that diners are no longer subjected to the noise of the coffee machine! He is willing to listen and respond to constructive criticism; not that you will find much to criticize.
The food is delicious, interesting and well presented. Highly recommended.23/03/2013 00:00:00The BestWe have enjoyed several tasting menu's and this is by far the best. You don't need to know about anything else - just book up and go - you will not be disappointed.23/03/2013 00:00:00Lovely find!Have visited Wild Garlic twice now - once for Sunday lunch and once for six course taster menu. Both were excellent - lovely relaxed environment, unhurried waiter service, delicious food with some new ideas, all attractively presented. Taken from young adult to grandparents with me, and all have enjoyed.
Highly recommend.23/03/2013 00:00:00AdaptableIt has to said that the menu was not inspiring, it didn't 'sell' the dishes. However, the food in terms of quantity, quality and superb chef skills was outstanding. One of our party is vegan and the chef was able to provide dishes of equal quality that were a delight.
Service was also excellent as was the wine list which was perhaps slightly overpriced but nevertheless offered a wide selection from a variety of sources.20/03/2013 00:00:00Very enjoyable evening mealWe were impressed by the relaxing, understated feel of the restaurant. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The only thing that disappointed us was that my husband, the only meat eater in the group, was keen to have the steak but they were unable to serve a single portion. Overall, we would definitely choose to eat there again, and would recommend it to friends.16/03/2013 00:00:00Good quality, freshly preparedGood quality, freshly prepared food to order which you can tell in a labour of love from the kitchen16/03/2013 00:00:00Lovely little hideaway...It might be bang in the middle of Nailsworth, but it's tucked away quietly in the Cotswolds. Matthew and Henry run a fantastic restaurant here with a creative wine list and an even more creative menu. My personal favourite was the twice cooked Beef Cheek. Lovely and tender, nice and crispy on the outside and full of texture and flavour on the inside. Highly recommended for a night away without the kids if you combine it with dinner B&B.16/03/2013 00:00:00Wild Garlic with friendsWe had a wonderful time at Wild Garlic in Nailsworth, sharing food with friends. No need to spend time on choosing what to eat; everything was brought to us and as we tasted our way through the set six course taster menu. We shared food rather than fill our respective stomachs. Wonderful!08/03/2013 00:00:00A wonderful few hours of escapismI took my husband for a lovely lunch. We have eaten dinner at Wild Garlic several times before and it has always been great but I didn't know what to expect at lunch. I would say that the menu is quite restricted at lunchtime however we both thoroughly enjoyed what we had - beef cheeks (stunningly good), followed by delicately cooked sole and a fabulous local cheeseboard. The food quality is outstanding. Service was efficient and attentive despite them being quite busy. It's a lovely, comfortable, well laid out restaurant and we would definitely recommend it.08/03/2013 00:00:00Well worth a try. It might suit youIt's about the food here. They do a great job of putting together interesting combinations I wouldn't be brave enough to try. The presentation was excellent and despite being busy both courses were cooked just so and arrived piping hot.
The ambiance was great; we were all clearly enjoying ourselves.02/03/2013 00:00:00Tantalisingly TastyThe restaurant was bright and clean with modern decor, the staff were friendly and attentive. And the food was beautifully presented with mouthwatering flavour combinations. Perfect portion sizes on all courses. Our Sunday lunch was divine and we will definitely be returning, in fact we booked a table for another time the same day as we dined. Bravo!24/02/2013 00:00:00Very relaxedFood was lovely, especially the roasted chestnuts and the service was excellent. Very relaxed and we were not rushed at all, which sometimes happens in popular restaurants.
We'd had to cancel a previous booking because of bad weather and staff were most helpful to ensure that we could be accommodated at a later date.
I would certainly eat at the Wild Garlic again.16/02/2013 00:00:00A memorable eveningsuper food, excellent service and paired wine. 3 hours of wonderful escapism.14/02/2013 00:00:00Amazing Sunday Lunch!Easily the best Sunday Lunch we have had, with second to none service. We have already planned our next visit to the Wild Garlic and cant wait to return.10/02/2013 00:00:00Innovative menuLoved the monthly menu using seasonal local produce. The "chestnuts roasting on an open fire" was an inspired smoky flavour combination. Everything was well presented, and service was excellent too. We came on a Groupon deal and felt it was amazing value ( but not sure would have liked to have paid full price as portion sizes were a little small). However we will be back and have booked our next lunch.09/02/2013 00:00:00great foodExcellent food and service. purchased 6 course taster menu for xmas present for a friend at discounted voucher price and we would defo go back.08/02/2013 00:00:00Completely delicious food,Completely delicious food, some of the best I've ever tasted and beautifully presented. Obviously as it was a 'Taster' menu portions weren't large but the flavours were all there!
Love the decor of the restaurant and the cosy feel.08/02/2013 00:00:00WOWFrom the moment you enter the building you will not be dissappointed. Welcoming staff, stylish yet comfortable decor and food that never fails to tickle the taste buds.Nothing is too much trouble (e.g. options changed because of allergy) and it is clear all work with a mantar of the customer is always right and service, service, service. Can not recall another ding experience where the whole evening's conversation revolved around the quality/taste of the food we were served and the memories it evoked.08/02/2013 00:00:00An experienceHad a great meal, not everyone was using a coupon, we were made to feel very welcome. Courses were beautifully presented, the dish explained by waiters, fantastic inventive menu. Would definitely recommend to friends .06/02/2013 00:00:00Will go farThis is a restaurant punching well above its grade.
The food was a pleasure. Well designed and beatifully executed. Service was attentive and smooth.
Well worth a try for almost any special occassion.06/02/2013 00:00:00Went for Sunday lunch withWent for Sunday lunch with a Groupon voucher. On arrival were greeted and shown to our table, given the wine and lunch menus. We were indecisive about our wine choice but the waitress was knowledgeable about the wines offered and we were able to make our choice on her recommendations. Ham hock terrine was delicious, not something I would normally choose but this has changed my mind. My husband had the mackerel which he enjoyed. We both had the Cotswold lamb which was cooked perfectly. Husband had the cheese and I had the Saffron creme brulee with icecream, both very good. Would definitely visit again for Sunday lunch and for an evening.03/02/2013 00:00:00Another flavoursome experienceThis was another excellent experience at the Wild Garlic. Yet again we were delighted with the creative use of flavour, encouraging us to try different foods and combinations.
The service was superb as ever and we will definitely return.03/02/2013 00:00:00A laid back lunchWe were treated to the 6-course taster lunch menu as a christmas gift, & dined on a chilly saturday in January. Meals without our very young children are rare and we had high expectations, but we were not disappointed. The food was sensational - in every way; looked beautiful, smelt delicious (chesnuts roasting on an open fire - literally!); the textures of the 6 courses were varied & interesting; and of course the taste was exquisite - sharp cured fish; melt-in-the mouth tender duck, and rich comforting pumpkin cake & more. The staff were fabulous, and the service exceptional. The setting is cosy, un-pretentious but stylish. We had a wonderful experience, and I would recommend Wild Garlic to anyone. The wine was also very good indeed.25/01/2013 16:00:00Evening meal at wild garlicThe greeting was good and the meal was very good if a little frugal. Some parts of the taster menu were un-necessary as the lemon and thyme refresher, the staff were excellent and very helpful.24/01/2013 16:00:00Another great mealWe had the taster menu and all four of us were glad we did. It showcased Matts skill and inventiveness and made us try lots of dishes we had not had before. All the courses were unique, delicious tasting and superbly presented. Come on Michelin give this restaurant tha star(s) it deserves. We'll be back!24/01/2013 16:00:00Delicious Food and Perfect ServiceWild Garlic never seems to falter or fail to please with lovely food and service that is second to none.
I heartily recommend you try the tasting menu which is good value and provides a canvass for Mathew to demonstrate his talent, you won't be disappointed.
On our visit this included chestnuts in foil "roasting" on wood embers, Pickled mackerel that to us tasted of the sea, a duck ravioli on savoy cabbage with a Chinese flavour stock (amazing) and apple "caviar" & blinis with a frozen creme freche with black pepper ice cream which was simply delicious. The "theatre" of the chestnuts to start and the caviar and blinis to finish added to the experience.
The service from Henry and the front of house team is as good as it gets.22/01/2013 16:00:00Outstanding RestaurantThe food here is expensive but absolutely sublime. Recommend the venison or lentil/bacon cappucino to start. Service is great and we were asked for our feedback on the food which is always a good sign. A slight mistake was made with our food but the chap in charge couldn't have been more apologetic. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion and we will definitely go back.18/01/2013 16:00:00
