  • "Great meal, a few things not available but the Steak and Ale pie was excellent. Good service and no rush."

  • "This is a lovely warm, cosy and welcoming pub; a great location for walkers and cyclists. It has a nice friendly, relaxed and informal atmosphere where nothing was too much trouble. The menu offers great choice for all and all our food was cooked to perfection. The service was faultless and staff very attentive. The prices are very reasonable of both food an drinks. Overall, would recommend."

  • "We visited for a family Sunday lunch, five of us in all. Food was good as usual but the wait to place orders was too long. We are not impressed with meals served on bread boards or chips in tin cans, there's nothing wrong with plates! Good value and although the staff were under pressure, they were pleasant at all times."

  • "We also stayed and found the rooms to be comfortable, clean and spacious and the breakfast we really delicious."

  • "Food was as advertised. Good Steak and Ale pie, although slightly small. Veggie crumble better than some in our group have experienced elsewhere. Good range of real ale, good range of sweets. The team didn't mind when we changed tables three times. Some nice views, we have picked our table for next time. Facilities for younger diners looked good as well although we had none with us. Would go back for more."

  • "Table was booked for 5.30 on a bank holiday Sunday. Plenty of tables free but not enough staff to deal with the number of diners. Only 2 staff taking food and drink orders causing a long queue even just for drinks. Starters arrived quickly and were nice but nearly an hour later we still had no main course which was a long wait for my 7 year old who had not had a starter! We had to ask for the main course and did receive an apology. The steaks had been served the wrong way round and one was cold but we couldn't face sending it back. The other two mains were ok. Had to ask again for child's ice cream which was part of a 'deal' but it was half melted. Needed more bar staff and waiters to deliver food to large outside seating area."

  • "Was not as remembered, and although all seemed the same, there were fewer staff on the bar so had to queue for every thing, and although we did not wait too long for food to arrive, when it did it was cold and it looked as if it had been cooked for some time and then reheted. Shame because it was a nice menu and vegetables served different to what is the norm."

  • "Booked a table here on a recommendation but it was awful. We were seated at the back of the pub even when the pub was empty and it was like being in no mans land. We then ordered food. Even though there were by now about four people in the restaurant it took 30 mins for a starter to arrive. We then waited and waited and waited for our main meal. After another half an hour I went to see what was happening only to be told that if I was on table 39 the chef had broken the burger and there was a delay. We would have had no problem with this if a bit of courtesy had been shown and we had been told about the problem, but were not impressed with no communication ! The pub itself has wonderful views from the garden"

  • "Really good position with fantastic sea view that must get really busy on a sunny lunch time. Lots for kids to do. Food was ok. Tuna overcooked and dry, Staff friendly but unwiiling to come to the table even for multiple payment even though they were just chatting behind the bar."
    dined on 22/06/2013
  • "The ambiance was poor. The seating was rustic, but would benefit from a few cushions or padded seats. Staff were not attentive and appeared disinterested even though they were not particularly busy. Food was okay, but not outstanding. It would have been helpful to have a form /pen to write your food orders on when there is a large group. I will probably not bother to eat there again in the future."

  • "There was only 1 person serving drinks and a very big queue. We waited around 15 minutes to be served for drinks and then go our table. There was a sign up stating 45 minute wait for food. We didn't mind this to be honest. The menu looked great however When we went to order, the member of staff explained what they had ran out of. There were around 12 meals we could not have. We then held up the queue because we could not decide what to have as our first and second choices were all gone. Mine was very small so I had to order a side of chips as the only option it came with was rice which I did not want. Once ordered we waited longer than 45 minutes for our food. My friend enjoyed her food where as mine wasn't as great."

  • "The inn has a lovely setting and plenty of atmosphere. The menu looked superb however a delivery did not turn up and practically everything was off the menu. What a shame as the food we did end up with was so nice."

  • "Relaxed, child friendly, dog friendly restuarant. Young staff very friendly and helpful. Lots of space inside and outside plus plently of parking. Food is good at an average price."

  • "Staff were organised, online booking system was so easy, very efficient service, 4 meals out of 4 were all perfect and plates cleaned including 1 kids meal, very good value as meals better than standard pub food and even children expressed out good they were. Can't wait for next visit, definitely an all round favourite for the Isle of Wight."

  • "ALTHOUGH WE ARRIVED ABOUT AN HOUR EARLY FOR OUR BOOKING THE STAFF DEALT WITH US IN A PLEASANT FRIENDLY MANNER AND SOON ACCOMODATED US."

  • "Wet & dull Feb Sunday. Good welcome, warm friendly feel with nice fire burning. Service prompt & helpful. Good size portions of veg, meat(beef) not v tender. Roast pot very dry and not enough gravy (more brought on request). Puddings much better but he St. Clements pudding very dry, maybe over re-heated. We would go again as its a nice pub in a great position and a large menu to try other things."

  • "The pub itself is beautiful inside and has a nice feel to it. The setting the pub is in is breathtaking. The menu provides a good selection of food and has a good children's menu, it a shame that the food didn't live up to the way it sounded on the menu. I had their 'award winning' steak and tanglefoot ale pie of which the pastry was stodgy and un-crisp, the mash potato it came with tasted a bit like artificial powdered mash and there was a very small dribbling of gravy which certainly wasn't enough. My daughter had the children's sausages, mash and beans. As soon as the plate arrived at the table I took one look at the baked beans and thought they look disgusting, almost like they had been sitting somewhere for a very long time! Not good"
