Whitechapel Gallery Dining RoomLovely dining experienceA pre birthday meal with sisters, this was a great choice. I'm deaf with a cochlear implant, and huge noisy dining spaces make hearing impossible - here, the small intimate room made conversation much easier, and it was relaxing. The food was beautifully prepared and presented, and portion sizes were just right ( the steak special was particularly good). Delicious puddings, salted caramel and chocolate tart, and sticky toffee pudding. We all felt we would definitely come again. It was a lovely dining experience.18/05/2013 00:00:00Lovely lunchGreat lunch for four at the Gallery Dining Room last Saturday. Attentive (but not in your face) service, high quality food in really nice surroundings at a reasonable price. Would definitely go again.18/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent FoodWhitechapel Gallery offers fantastic seasonal food, highly recommended.02/05/2013 00:00:00Ladies who lunchedThree of us had a fabulous lunch. The service was discreet and knowledgable, we were given excellent advice about our choice of wine. All of the food was delicious. We would certainly lunch here again.18/04/2013 00:00:00Small, friendly, high qualityNot busy the Thursday lunchtime we were here (Easter holidays), but deserves to be full. One small mirrored dining room, good limited-choice lunch menu and wine list. Daily specials available. Water provided free. Very friendly and knowledgeable waitress, efficient service. Food (in our case fish) perfectly cooked. Despite celebrity-chef name attached, prices reasonable for this high quality (£12 - £15 for a main course 'big plate', good regional wines not ludicrously overpriced). 2 people, two courses, carafe of wine plus shared dessert wine and service came to £91. So not everyday eating for most, but good for more special occasions. Nice that you can walk out straight into a contemporary art exhibition. I'll be going again.11/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent service and foodFood was great, I had duck breast for starter, beef onglet for main and poached pear for dessert. All very delicious. I highly recommend the poached pear. The best thing about this restaurant is the service. The waitresses were very attentive. And the food was ready shortly after I placed the order. The environment is very relaxing and you can really have a good conversation with friends without shouting at each other, compared to some restaurants which play really loud music all the time. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.27/03/2013 00:00:00Great Lunch venueAlways wanted to visit but never did - until last week.
Great choice and only a stones throw from the City so able to enjoy being away from the normal crowds.
Superb food and pleasure to take a guest who only enjoys the best!21/03/2013 00:00:00Fantastic ServiceWent for our anniversary and this is the perfect setting. Small, intimate and quiet - you would never guess you were on such a busy road. The 2 waiting staff were friendly and so attentive. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We'll definitely be back.16/03/2013 00:00:00Visit last week was probablyVisit last week was probably twelfth in last couple of years and I've never been disappointed. Short but varied lunch menu still made choice difficult and the three of us each had different starters and mains which were all excellent. Staff as always knowledgeable and helpful.27/02/2013 00:00:00Great venue for lunch withGreat venue for lunch with friends or with business associates. The restaurant is a perfect size - not too big, and quite cozy. The menu was good and food just right. Staff very friendly and provide great service. The location is a very short walk from Aldgate East or Aldgate.22/02/2013 00:00:00I took my parents there asI took my parents there as they had come to London for the weekend. The food was fantastic, the service was outstanding, and whilst it was in a great setting, it was extremely relaxed and homely. If I had one fault with the meal was that the portion size was a little bit small.22/02/2013 00:00:00Elegant competence, as everAs ever, eating at the Whitechapel Gallery Dining Room was an elegant and understated pleasure. The menu is short and unfussy with a surprisingly wide range of choice for such a brief document. The daily specials are clearly market related and always worth while. The wine list is much the same, short, interesting and reasonably priced. The service just cannot be bettered and despite the restaurant's small size one never has the feeling of being pressurised to leave a table before one has quite finished. Many other London eateries could learn a valuable lesson from this.19/02/2013 00:00:00Really nice vibe and lovely mealWent on Valentine's Day and waas very pleasantly surprised by the relaxed vibe. More choices for meat lovers but really enjoyed my butternut squash risotto - cooked beautifully and subtle flavours. I would definitely go again.14/02/2013 00:00:00Saturday LunchThe spicy fishcake appetizer got us off to a shaky start (neither spicy or seasoned) but the Pork Chop and the Hake were both really good and the buttermilk pannacotta with rhubarb was sensational.
They have some wines available by the 500ml carafe which is perfect for lunch.
Staff were pleasent, prices reasonable and I will definitely be back.09/02/2013 00:00:00Business lunch 8 FebruaryWe arrived a few minutes early and were warmly greeted and offered our table before our allotted time.
Excellent design with modernist furniture working with the historic interior to great effect.
The general ambience was an oasis from the busy street and gallery spaces, which are just steps away.
The food and wine were excellent, although there was only a single vegetarian option.08/02/2013 00:00:00Great food and serviceHad razor clams with bacon - could eat that all day. The sweetness if the clams combines with the saltiness of the bacon worked great. As for the crab linguine, this is the first restaurant where I ve felt they were not stingy with the crab. The flavours were beautifully balanced. Loved the side truffle chips too.07/02/2013 00:00:00A Hidden Gem!Second to none friendly yet professional service and excellent food. The duck breast was cooked to absolute perfection. Highly recommended!30/01/2013 16:00:00Absolutely lovely mid-week mealWent with two friends on a Thursday night. Had a sneaky peak at the menu in advance and was practically drooling before I walked in. We ordered a couple of small plates (they were ok). Starters were all enjoyed, and mains were delicious. I had the crab linguine and it was without a doubt the best I have ever had ... it must be very bad for you! Desserts were tasty on all fronts, but unfortunately they didn't have the chocolate torte and salted caramel ice cream that night (grrrr!) though the nougat parfait was delicious! Service was friendly but unintrusive. Definitely worth visiting.23/01/2013 16:00:00Had an excellent meal withHad an excellent meal with my partner before Christmas, very suprised as i have been here a few times in the past few years that it was very quiet.
Pre-Orders - pork croquettes devine. Starters - Squid perfectly cooked, in-house somked mackerel excellent. Mains - Quail good, suprisingly meaty, Duck confit very good. Side of Chips Great! Good wilted greens too.
Great food, good wine and will be coming back much more regularly22/12/2012 00:00:00WE had Sunday lunch at theWE had Sunday lunch at the Whitechapel Gallery Dining Rooms which was a great success. The friendly service surrounded well prepared food in a calm environment. The chicken pie and the roast beef were perfect and good value for money. We shall return.24/11/2012 16:00:00Great foodAbsolutely loved this restaurant, the food is unpretentious and excellent. Highly recommended.20/11/2012 00:00:00Quality food and atmosphereA short but well thought out menu, delicious food and very helpful, friendly staff. The food was well prepared, tasty and reasonably priced.
Nicely laid out and relaxed atmosphere. It isn't a massive dining room but the tables are well spaced and didn't feel crushed.
Worth the excursion out from the City core and if you have time after there is the gallery to explore.15/11/2012 16:00:00The Whitechapel Gallery strikesThe Whitechapel Gallery strikes again. Surprisingly quiet, probably because of the Christmas exodus, we enjoyed a lovely chestnut and truffle oil risotto. Risotto was perfectly cooked and flavoured, I was only slightly unconvinced by the balsamic drizzle on top of the risotto (very sharp flavour compared to truffle). Treacle tart with clotted cream was a perfect ending. As always, service is attentive and cheerful. Fantastic restaurant in this part of London, and absolute gem.22/12/2011 16:00:00
