WatatsumiDiscover this!Watatsumi is a hidden gem just off Trafalgar Square. Food to match or even surpass Nobu, but easy to get a table at because few people seem to know about it. Awesome food, great service, not cheap but we got what we paid for and the ambience would have been 5 stars if only it were busier. Go there, before you can't get it!01/03/2013 00:00:00Quiet and discreetA lovely place for a working lunch, as it's quiet, never too busy, and with good service.12/02/2013 00:00:00Japanese with more than sushiA gem of a restaurant offering a range of unfamiliar but delicious Japanese dishes along with a superior version of sushi. Wide range of prices depending on what you order, so suitable for anything from special occasions to a convenient pit-stop. Incredibly handy location for anyone going to and from Charing Cross. The room is full of character and style and the service was both charming and efficient. I will definitely be going back, probably many times! There is also a great take-away lunch menu.07/02/2013 00:00:00Conveniently located justConveniently located just off Trafalgar Square, it's a lovely place inside with very attentive and helpful staff. Was there with a large group and the consensus was that the food generally was very good, with a wide selection of vegetarian options, and the lunch menu good value for the quality. Looking forward to the next visit.03/02/2013 00:00:00Watatsumi......amazingThis is my 4th time to Watasumi and the food never fails to impress. It's one of the best Japanese I've been to outside Japan. Fantastic fresh food and the staff are always helpful and keen to impress. I will be back again.29/01/2013 00:00:00We went here pre-theatre butWe went here pre-theatre but opted for selected items off their a la carte menu. Wonderful service, friendly, very attentive but not overly so. The Volcano & Rainbow roles and assorted sushi were all really amazing. Some of the best I've had, certainly in London. We will be back!!28/01/2013 16:00:00Good value for moneyGreat sushi. I also had a seafood salad and it was great! i recommend it!17/01/2013 16:00:00Return to a favouriteThis was my fourth outing for dinner at Watatsumi and once again the food was fabulous , the spicey calamari is a must as is the Miso cod ( I still think this dish is better than Nobu !!). It was encourging to see the restaurant relatively busy on a thursday night , I have in tha past feared for the place as it has been so quiet previously. The chablis at £32 a bottle is good value.16/01/2013 16:00:00Always delicious at WatasumiI read a review about Watasumi and knew I had to go and try it. The only thing I would say about the review was that it is even better than I expected! That doesn't happen often!
My absolute favourite are the Watasumi crispy calamari, it would convince anyone that calamari s an absolute must to be eating!
Saying that everything is delicious and to end the meal, there is always room for a mini moochi!09/01/2013 16:00:00excellent JapaneseLondon is increasingly saturated in Japanese restaurants (which is a good thing). Watatsumi ranks among fine dinning with first class sushi prepared and served to the highest standards. Even the chocolate fondue was perfect. To top it off the atmosphere is great and the staff faultless.28/12/2012 16:00:00Excellent service in lovelyExcellent service in lovely surroundings and in a great central location.
Highly recommend the tasting menu's, a not to be missed opportunity to experience many of the fresh and tasty dishes from the menu.
Will certainly be returning to Watatsumi in the near future.26/12/2012 16:00:00great food and thoughtful staffWe went here for out wedding anniversary and had a lovely meal. We did have our 2 year old son with and I was worried it was not really a family place esp as no high chairs, but they were great, and he sat nicely and enjoyed the sushi so all was well, this is def more of a couples resturant but it is beautiful inside and with great service. We only went for lunch so had bento boxes and sushi, we said no to desert as we were pretty full but after a few minutes they brought over a lovley suprise cheesecake to share with happy anniversary on it, it made our visit so special and the cheesecake was devine! I would soooo recommend this resturant!20/12/2012 16:00:00A very smart, authentic JapaneseA very smart, authentic Japanese restaurant. Went for lunch with colleagues and we were all impressed with the service and food.29/11/2012 00:00:00A lovely restaurantWatasumi is one of my favorite London restaurants. I keep coming back, the food is great, the service impeccable and it is never rushed.
I will recommend this to anyone. My favorite is the baby shrimp tempura and the baby octopus rings, just delicious!
Saying that after having been many times I am yet to order something that I don't like.
I am not a big dessert fan but there is always room for their mooli, a perfect bite to end the meal with.
They also have a lovely wine list and some delicious sake!20/11/2012 00:00:00Classy Japanese jointThird visit to this Japanese. The interior is stunning, the ambience subdued and mellow. Food outstanding. Staff friendly.08/11/2012 00:00:00Lovely as alwaysI always enjoy dinner at Watatsumi, and with the 25% toptable discount the menu slides into the "affordable" category for me. It's a beautiful space with friendly, attentive service and excellent food (though portions are dainty - if you are really hungry I would over-order a little).
Only quibble this time was that we were in a hurry and the server forgot to bring our cheque for a while. However, the service was excellent otherwise and we should have left more time before the theatre to enjoy our meal!05/11/2012 00:00:00Nice SushiOur first visit to Watatsumi was a good experience with good authentic Japanese food and great service. It was not very busy on a Saturday evening which was the only disappointment.20/10/2012 00:00:00Great experienceMy husband and I were plesantly surprised by this Japanese restaurant: great food, great service and very good ambience, too. I would particularly recommend the black cod. The special offer adds to what is an already good value meal.04/10/2012 16:00:00Great pre theatre mealWent here before seeing the phantom of the opera and it was great. The starter was very tasty and the main (sea bream with some rice) was simple and delicious. Wife's birthday and so they kindly gave us a couple of delicious lychee based shots (tasted like grappa for girls but was very nice and an appreciated gesture). Will return.21/09/2012 00:00:00Amazing sushiThe food and ambiance was great. We ordered some sushis and they were without a doubt the best ones we had for a long time. A little expensive however but this place was the perfect treat to offer to oneself once in a while.15/09/2012 00:00:00Definitely worth a repeat visit!High ceilings and cool marble give the room a sense of occasion. Pre-theatre menu was varied and service was quick. Staff were attentive and on the ball. I can recommend the spicy sushi salmon and miso marinated steak - even the tofu was tasty!14/09/2012 16:00:00Fabulous value, great foodTook a visiting friend and a colleague to watatsumi and was pleasantly impressed. Good menu, excellent food - very pricey unless on TT offer. Miso soup was fab, as was chicken curry. Sushi was declared excellent and the service was good. Well worth another visit.15/07/2012 16:00:00Watatsumi was once again fabulousWatatsumi was once again fabulous. This time, as I was hosting with business friends who had not experienced Japanese before we selected the tasting menu and no body was disappointed. The service was great i.e. attentive but not too much, the serving staff were knowledgeable and explained the dishes with ease but the food spoke for itself as it was simply wonderful. My friends all said how wonderful it was and that they couldn't wait to go again. All in all an excellent dinner and evening and I have no hesitation in recomending this place to everyone.14/07/2012 00:00:00Special while conveniently locatedWe found it by chance and used the opportunity to try some special food while using the discount (25% off the food bill). The food was very good and we had a great selection to choose from. We shared the N/S Sashimi Selection and it was a fantastic way to start a meal - very appetising and well presented. Spider Soft Shell crab Maki; Octopus Salad and Dark miso soup took us well through to the main course. Kashiyaki Slamon was a bit too salty for my taste but my friend has enjoyed his vegeterian tempuras. Very attentive and freindly staff added to the atmosphere and we left as good friends. We are going to come back.04/07/2012 00:00:00One of my fav Japanese in London...if not the best I've tried so far in London.
We tried Watatsumi again, and the food was awesome. Even better than the last time.
I think it was down to us choosing things that we liked more and not the food being better, because previous times it was also awesome.
Service was very nice and attentive.
Very good value with the TT offer.
Would definitely recommend it.26/06/2012 16:00:00Nice sushi placeright by charing cross station, easy to get to, decor inside was nice. music maybe slightly not in keeping with the theme of the restaurant and a little loud but it happened to be to my taste so I liked it. Good sushi, good service, food presented very well. a little on the expensive side even with the TT discount, but japanese pan-asian places to tend to be. Good for a chilled after work meal with friends, or a special occasion on a fri/sat13/06/2012 00:00:00Watatsumi - Trafalgar Square
FabuloWatatsumi - Trafalgar Square
Fabulous restaurant and I keep coming back. The food is superb. The miso cod is divine and I would recomment to try the calamari starter. With the TT offer as well it is a must go if you like Japanese food. Service is attentive but discrete. I will definitely return.16/05/2012 16:00:00Watatsumi, London - a stunningWatatsumi, London - a stunning venue in Trafalgar Square - an oasis from the tourist crowds! My friend and I shared a platter of nigiri, sashimi and maki, all of which were of excellent quality. We also enjoyed a glass of sake with gold dust - delicious and luxurious! We had a lovely and smiley waiter and service was friendly and efficient. Overall a great night out and splendid food.15/05/2012 16:00:00We booked a table at WatatsumiWe booked a table at Watatsumi in Trafalgar Square London with a Top Table offer of 25% off food. The service was very good and the seating very comfortable. We felt that some of the dishes we had came in small portions given the price and if we did not book with the offer it would have been very poor value for money. I would recommend the chocolate fondue and green tea ice cream - delicious although not very Japanese!04/05/2012 00:00:00Watatsumi - absolutely BRILLIANT.Watatsumi - absolutely BRILLIANT. I will be back again. The food is to die for and the staff are very attentive. The restaurant manager is such a great host too.03/05/2012 00:00:00Watatsumi Trafalgar Sq wasWatatsumi Trafalgar Sq was fantastic. The ambience was stylish yet relaxed - a very sleek and contemporary restaurant, at the same time totally unpretentious. This was reflected in the friendly, down-to-earth staff as well as the elegant, non-fussy decor. And, most importantly, the food did not disappoint. The Sashimi selection was on par with Nobu, and the Tangy Cod/Salmon main courses were perfectly conceived and executed dishes. Good vfm with TT offer. I definitely recommend and will return!27/04/2012 00:00:00Watatsumi is a really niceWatatsumi is a really nice place, and it was busier than usual on Friday night 0 shich it deserves. Fresh fresh sushi and lovely staff, good ambience. Without the 25% discount it is too expensive for us, but with it it's a treat that's worth the splurge.
Only complaint is that the toilets were in a bit of a state - none of the hand dryers were workign, so the tiolets were filled with paper from people who had used it to dry their hands!27/04/2012 00:00:00Watatsumi was as reliablyWatatsumi was as reliably good as always, stayed with my favourites of white fish tempura and seared beef salad. lovely room, and good value as long as 30% off a la carte remains!25/03/2012 16:00:00Watatsumi - London. GreatWatatsumi - London. Great location and lovely restaurant. Excellent food and attentive service. The miso cod was superb. Will definitely be back.20/03/2012 17:00:00Booked this for after theaterBooked this for after theater as we love our raw fish and great with the offer. The Sashimi that my fiancee had was pretty good and fresh (she went for the mixed platter), as well as the nice 3 cup Saki tasting. I had a seared fish version which unfortunately was drowned in a saw and it would have been so much nicer just raw. My mistake and would suggest you stick to the raw options. Would come again to eat Sachimi with the offer.14/02/2012 16:00:00Had a lovely time at Watatsumi,Had a lovely time at Watatsumi, you have to try the spicy edamame, they were soo good, not tried this anywhere before, and we ended ordering a second helping. Great cocktails, really informative and friendly staff. Only thing I was disappointed in was they ran out of black cod, however the sea bass was really nice too so would definitely go again. Also got given complimentary cocktails so all round great service and experience.03/02/2012 16:00:00Fantastic foodHad a post theatre set dinner. Food was excellent. The restaurant is very beautiful but quiet so best for couples.24/01/2012 16:00:00Watatsumi in London is oneWatatsumi in London is one of the better Japanese restaurants in London. By London standards it really is quite good.
High quality ingredients throughout, however some dishes were over seasoned and too salty, which really was a shame. This was especially true of the Garlic Yuzu Prawns.
Would come back though16/01/2012 16:00:00Excellent service and veryExcellent service and very good food. Wonderful beef.29/12/2011 16:00:00i didnt attend but reporti didnt attend but report was of vg food, lovely decor and slightly over eager service, quite pricey event with the 20% off26/12/2011 16:00:00
