Diner Reviews
  • "This place is one of the best in London! Can't sing it's praises enough."

  • "Booked this for a colleague who was entertaining guests from Japan. The food was very good, very reasonable and they all had a great time."

  • "This was my 3rd time at Vivat Bacchus. It's literally across the street from London Bridge so there's no long trek to make after you've had a lovely, satisfying meal. This is a place that is known for its wine, hence the name, and it also has a cheese room with 50-60 cheeses available so that you can make your own cheese plate! The food is very good, full of flavor, though I think it may be a touch pricey. But it's worth it. Good service. Also as it's off of Tooley street it's not in the middle of madness. There are a few tables outside the entrance for al fresco dining or even just for having a glass of wine. I'd highly recommend Vivat Bacchus and think it's much better than the other options that are close by in Hays Galleria."

  • "We went to the London Bridge restaurant because I had tried the Vivat Bacchus in Farringdon which was very good. Sadly the London Bridge restaurant was not up to the same standard. Slightly more down market than the other one its light casual approach to dining made it more of an after work place to drink rather than a destination location for a meal. The food was excellent but a very limited menu. The service was so intense we had to stop the waitresses taking away plates and glasses of wine before they were clearly finished. This was odd as they didn't have people waiting for tables and half the room was empty. The wine list was superb and the cheese room exceptionally good but sadly the decor and service let it down."

  • "First visit here, and wow the food is incredible! I had the special which was beef ribs (yes beef, and big they are!) marinated in coca-cola, honey and something else I can't remember. Served with a crunchy grated salad. The tenderness of this beef was amazing, never had anything like it. I was going to order root mash with it but the waitress advised me not to because the meal was quite big! and she was right! Best beef I've ever had though. Also I had a little choc pot dessert which was grand marnier flavoured, and that was amazing too! All this was gluten free and they were very attentive about my food allergy from the start, asking who was gluten free as soon as I sat down. Great wine list too, and they do fish as well as meat."

  • "Very attentive staff, enjoyed the cheese room. Would definitely go back."

  • "We enjoyed a lovely meal with friends. Great back ground entertainment - fabulous food and wine! Recommended :-)"

  • "Very convenient, nice drinking area outside, excellent men, friendly and attentive service. Could do with more mid price options in the wine list."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "Lovely smart restaurant with wide choice of foods which were well presented. Staff were very discreet but helpful. Not made to feel rushed at all nice live music on the Saturday night"
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "First visit to this restaurant was for mid week dinner. The restaurant had a warm atmosphere, with friendly service. The wine list was extensive as expected and the food was very good. Not necessarily a place for a romantic meal, but for a buzzy evening out it is great. I would return."
    dined on 11/03/2014
  • "The four of us returned to Vivat Bacchus in Hays Galleria this weekend, after a successful and enjoyable first visit in the autumn. It met our expectations in every way. the food and wine was really good, the ambience superb - a jazz duo played as we eat - and the staff service is as good as we get anywhere. There will no doubt be a third visit when next we come to London."

  • "I have not been in Vivat Bacchus for a long while and selected it for a birthday dinner on the basis of the memories I had from earlier. The restaurant has shrunk in the mean time and there is no separate fine dining section now. This just shows for how long I haven't been there! Having said that, the food was still excellent, the steaks for sharing are still there (the reason I chose the place) and there is still a good wine and cheese selection, albeit the latter seems to have shrunk as well. Given that the prices are kept at fine dining levels, there is now a little mismatch. But it is still one of my favourite London places."

  • "Really enjoyed the steak and the wine was pretty good but the crowning glory of Vivat Bacchus is the cheese room and the lady that works there. She has a fantastic knowledge of the cheese but is patient and happy to explain everything. I can thoroughly recommend the experience of trying and selecting your cheese board. Can't wait to go back (was almost tempted to go back today just for the cheese board)."

  • "I've been here a few times before for wine and nibbles in the evening but I came here for lunch for the first time for an anniversary treat and really enjoyed it. Good food, great wine and lovely staff."

  • "Great venue very close for London Bridge for wine and relaxed food with friends. Fabulous selection of wines and menu selection - something to suit everyone's tastes and needs."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "Although the menu is not as exotic as expected the food was very good. The service was exceptional. Staff were friendly, genuine and attentive. The highlight was choosing our own cheeses from the cheese room for our cheese board. Perfect way to end our evening with a lovely bottle of red wine."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "We've passed by the venue on our way to work for several years, often mentioning we wanted to try it. Finally did and were pleasantly surprised. Excellent wine choice, clever cheese rooms, but found food portions a touch small. Will go again, especially for Saturday jazz night."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "Nice venue for a Saturday evening for wine. Jazz played on the Saturday evening (at a good sound level - nice to have in background and wasn't too loud). We had the food platters too, which were good - although not cheap for the amount of food provided. Overall a good venue and service was very friendly."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "Nice restuarant in London Bridge, nothing too special to make me go rushing back, but food and service was good, so would recommend to others"
    dined on 12/02/2014
  • "Booked a table for Valentines Day. Selected the set menu - three courses with matched wines for £60 per person. Food was very good and wine pairings excellent. Wasn't overly crowded which made for a relaxed dinner. Was served a dessert that needed to be replaced as the kitchen had not remembered the requirement for a gluten-free option. Overall would recommend but it was pricey for what it was - have had much better value offerings from many other restaurants, including some with Michelin stars."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "Beautiful food and fun environment when the chef is cooking for you. However staff service is very poor with confusion of them when seating us and the couple behind us. No explanation how the menu works! When food ordered the meat was cooked before the rice and vegetables arrived! The rice had to be asked for twice with no apology from the staff! Food was good and very tasty. Drinks extremely expensive"
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "10 of us enjoyed a great meal here. Two of our party arrived late and their orders were taken promptly and arrived quickly. Wine was more expensive than I'd usually pay but was very good. Food was very tasty, well presented, and arrived promptly. Expected small portions but I couldn't even finish mine I got such a large portion! Very enjoyable birthday meal with friendly service in a great location!"
    dined on 25/01/2014
  • "We where a group of friend visiting the restaurant and found it to be a lovely night out. Especially popular was the cheese room (!) and the knowledge and extent of so many different cheeses! This matched with wine was fit for any foodie. Fair to say the cheese lovers within the group went away happy, and I have already recommended this to other friends and even clients."
    dined on 04/02/2014
  • "I had a wonderful time at Vivat Bacchus - the staff were very friendly and really went the extra mile - particularly as we were taken to the cheese room and allowed to try the cheeses - great service"
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "Can't say enough how lovely the meal and cheese room were!"
    dined on 22/01/2014
  • "Vivat Bacchus is a great place to go to catch up with friends over a few glasses of wine and a platter. Excellent service - friendly without being intrusive - in a lively, chatty wine bar. A great local venue."
    dined on 22/01/2014
  • "I've been there for a business lunch and I was surprised about the quality of the food vs. price. It is not cheap but I think the value for money is super good. The service was great as well with the waiter having me taste a couple of wines before to choose. The restaurant is located in a quite, hidden area which is a bonus! I would recommend this place!"
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "I was looking for a decent restaurant close to London Bridge for a work celebration and Vivat Bacchus fit the bill perfectly! The menu was great for a bunch of cheese-loving carnivores, and for the meal we had, it was pretty good value for money. Location-wise it's ideal, being so close to the station. The platters we shared for a starter were delicious, and the flat-iron, sirloin and kangaroo steaks went down very well! Service was attentive but not pushy, just right. My only minor gripe was the size of our table. Once our 2 platters arrived, our table for 4 became very crowded. Otherwise, everything else was great and I will be returning to try some other items on the menu in the future. Would definitely recommend."

  • "Always good food and service. Great atmosphere as always busy!"

  • "Great find.. Had a couple of good bottles of red ( and discounted too) great food - Kangeroo steak and a SA burger and then sampled the cheese Room - What a delight . Great cheese and presented and accompanied so well with jams and nougat and dried fruit..Bill was very reasonable too -= Def come back again.."

  • "Easy and uncomplicated. Especially like the wine flight which enables you to try 3 wines from the winery of the month!"
    dined on 16/12/2013
  • "Met with some friends for a pre-xmas drink and the staff were attentive and very nice. We only had platters to share and drinks but food was good and would go back again."
    dined on 16/12/2013
  • "We had a great evening out, staff were very welcoming and attentive. Live background music created a great ambiance. Good food and wine, topped of with a fantastic cheese room with a wide range of UK and international cheeses to select your own from."
    dined on 14/12/2013
  • "Went here on Monday for an early dinner. We had sea bream and fishcakes. The latter come with nothing, but is filled with fish and the sea bream was moist with mash. We tried the three desserts, which were worth it! Good sauvignon blanc. As it was early evening, the ambience was only livening up when we left at 7.30pm. Will come again."
    dined on 02/12/2013
  • "Very good food and special/out of the norm menu. The service team was really attentitive and nice. Did not try any cheeses, but apparently famous for the cheese room. Will definitely go back to try their huge cheese selection! The ambience was nice, but not too special."
    dined on 29/11/2013
  • "Great location, very close to London Bridge station. Nice restaurant and ambience, good service. Good choice of menu to suit all palates. Chose a platter - meats, dips, breads etc. Not enough bread but that was the only complaint! Reasonable wine list. Convenient location to meet up with friends."
    dined on 21/11/2013
  • "I booked this for mysf and two female friends/work colleagues after reading other reviews from trip advisor. What a perfect choice! Lovely busy Friday night ambience, perfect setting for a good catch up with the girls. A great menu very reasonable and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food - especially the melt in the mouth steaks. Really fantastic service with a smile. The cheeses from the very novel cheese room were gorgeous and the wine list extensive with some excellent and well priced recommendations. Overall we all agreed this was a fantastic evening and we highly recommend vivat bacchus and will definitely return one day!"
    dined on 29/11/2013
  • "The restaurant has the atmosphere and looks the part however the food was pretty average and bland tasting - if it had been half the price they could have got away with it. The service was really pushing - aggressively repeated asking if we were ready to order - 3 or 4 members of staff over 5 minutes - and then the food took ages to come! - Waiting staff lacked finesse. I had high expectations but came away disappointed."
    dined on 28/11/2013
  • "As always, purely dined from the cheese room menu. The lady was so kind she came mid way through to make sure we were happy with our cheese choices. I'm sure it won't be long until we return"

  • "Vivat Bacchus is a perfect spot for a quick, easy and reasonably priced lunch or dinner. An interesting menu and polite staff made for an enjoyable meal. Not the best meal in London but at these prices there is no reason to complain. My only regret is we didn't get to tackle the cheese room... maybe next time!"
