VelvetPleasant surpriseI must admit i was dreading going to a restaurant on canal street - notorious for bad service, but the staff at Velvet were all lovely and made us feel welcome immediately. The food was good. I'm vegetarian and there were a couple of interesting mains and plenty of other "bits" to choose from. Fortunately, it also tied in nicely with their Happy Hour, so each of us only spent about £30 for lunch plus about five drinks (including wine/cockatils!)

Perfection started as soon as we walked through the door, this place has the most wonderful atmosphere, we started with piri piri prawns and bang bang chicken, we couldn't stop nicking each others food!! This carried into the main course of porkloin and fillet steak salad. The staff were warm, friendly and smiley!! Everything she said was true, Great food, Great atmosphere & reasonable prices. The waiters were really friendly. I had the fillet steak & was really pleased the quality was amazing. Cocktails were great too, Value for money. I Will defiantly be returning as we're lots off other meals on the menu I'd love to try.

The service is brilliant, the staff are very friendly and appear to be bothered whether you are having a good time and enjoying your food. They are happy to point out where you can save money with their different offers. They are attentive without being annoying. The food matches and exceeds the service. Not often do you go to a restaurant where they cook the steak just how you requested - well they do here. The food was hot, arrived quickly and was outstanding-the liver and the key lime pie were beautiful and no one round the table had a negative thing to say.
We were never rushed and tables were booked up but there was no sense of rushing people or overcrowding-nobody seemed to wait for a table either.
Its been decorated since I was last here-really lush and cosy.
Definately worth a visit if you are lucky enough to get a table!

On our most recent visit (Saturday 16th February) Our meal was outstanding but to be fair that does not describe the steak adequatley. By far the best steak we have had in Manchester EVER ! Early Bird offer of 2 courses for £12.95 between 4-7pm was excellent value and there was also a happy hour for wine, so we had a bottle of very good house wine for £7. Menu interesting with planty of choice, including vegetarian options.
