Vecchia RomaEXCELLENT MEAL AGAIN!We visit Vecchia Roma fairly regularly and never tire of the great service and lovely dishes. Their set menu just can't be beaten for content and value - we love it!04/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent meal though priceyWe have usually opted for the set menu which has always been excellent but this time decided to push the boat out and go a la carte. The meal was very enjoyable as was the wine, service etc. However the vegetables were a little disappointing and these added an extra £7 to the bill. Vegetables are included in the set menu and are exactly the same vegetables. Also a hefty 12% service charge was added to the bill which brought it to just over £100 for 2 for 2 courses and a bottle of wine which for a midweek meal is quite expensive. The restaurant had charm, the proprietor was friendly and engaging, waiting staff had a sense of humour and were attentive, portion sizes were huge and the menu had something for everyone. Some chose from the a la carte and others from the set menu, but basically the maitre d' was happy for you to mix and match. We used the 20% voucher, added a bottle of wine per couple and we ended up with a reasonable sized bill! We were disturbed by the rearrangement of tables around us while we were eating but I suppose that is the nature of accommodating large groups. The food was excellent but I do not pretend to be a gourmet critic sufficient to say that the accomaning vegetables were perfectly cooked with a melt in the mouth delight ,without being crunchy or pappy and full of flavour. The food is great and the family run service is excellent.
