Attentive service and good explanation of the menu. The courses were well paced and we never felt hurried.
We will be returning, I have no doubt.

The service is excellent - friendly - helpful and everything is presented beautifully. But you go to a restaurant for the food and Van Zeller's does this amazingly. If I am paying for a meal out I want to have something I can't do at home and I certainly couldn't cook or present food in the way it is done here. Yes I know this isn't the cheapest place to eat but then this is a London style 'posh' restaurant but probably at about half the price you would pay in London. It is not the place I would go every week but for a treat it is lovely.09/04/2013 00:00:00The Best Meal I ever hadOn arrival at this boutique restaurant the first thing that caught me was the beautiful setting and ambience of the restaurant itself.
We had the five course set menu which was eagerly explained by the waitressing staff when requested and each mouthful took you a step closer to heaven.

Not only was the food outstanding in quality and taste but delivered by professionals in a really relaxing environment. For the money, this was one of our top 5 restaurants we have ever visited. Small restaurant with about 35 covers and a lovely ambience. The service was excellent, and free of any arrogance or pomposity that you see in some of the establishments in this price bracket. The highlight was one of the waiters suggesting that we take a 5 minute break after about course number 6 or 7 - exactly what we needed. There was a marriage proposal at the table next to us (accepted) which added to the entertainment. We usually come as a couple, but invited some friends to dine with us.
The 5 course set meal was superb. Cooked and presented well. Portion sizes were good as was the range of dishes on the menu.
I enjoyed the fois gras, succulent and sweet, the sea bass was delicious, crispy skin, plump and cooked just right and the red deer chosen by my husband was superb.
The staff were knowledgable about the food and wine and were friendly and sincere.
I wasn't quite sure whether or not our friends would enjoy the food as much as us, but happily they were in agreement that food, wine, ambience and evening was delightful.31/01/2013 16:00:005 course dinnerWe were greeted with exemplary politeness and helped with the menu. The first occasion was about three years ago when we were considering moving to Harrogate and the second occasion was to celebrate our move to Harrogate and my wife's birthday. We thought it was excellent the first time but, if anything, it has got even better.
We had the 7-course tasting menu with matching wines. The menu was very well balanced and each course was perfectly prepared and looked great on the plate. The matching wines were well selected.
The evening cost £240 which in anyone's reckoning is a lot of money, even for a double celebration, but we still rate it as very good value for money. Why? Because in any city you would pay at least 25% more and in London it would be 50%!
