UmuVery good experience overa;;Especially the dessert was sublime, for the rest it is what is to be expected: very good food28/03/2013 00:00:00fantastic restaurantMy husband and I recently booked a Saturday night dinner at Umu. The atmosphere was very romantic as the lighting was dim and this made me feel relaxed. The food (we had a la carte menu) and service were excellent. There were some more unusual dishes on the menu such as abalone and some special ones 0like wagyu beef (we had grade 9 wagyu and it was so soft and delicious but £65 per person). We had a bottle of sake which was very expensive (but my husband wanted one of the best ones). Our waiter was happy, smiling and very attentive without being fussy. We were made feel special but still very relaxed and friendly. The restaurant is expensive but worth it. We are planning to visit again.02/03/2013 00:00:00Great food and service onceGreat food and service once again; probably London's best and most innovative Japanese restaurant.
I shall return tomorrow!01/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent but expensiveWe were only able to go to the restaurant because we were given a voucher as a present. The food was great, the service was brilliant but the restaurant lacked a friendly buzz.18/01/2013 16:00:00Umu birthday treatUmu is discreet, it's tucked away behind Bond St. with a sliding door entrance. It feels like you've arrived at a secret exclusive club. Warmly welcomed, we sat at the bar where we could watch the fine art of Japanese food preparation at its finest. We chose the most delicious and fresh Sashimi, Wyagu Beef, and Seared Tuna dish, immaculately presented, and every bite a delight. We shared sticky pudding with Miso ice cream, also delicious. There is a great selection of sake on the menu, and a pretty comprehensive wine list with some reasonably priced wines too. One little niggle, there was a rush of cold air when the outside door opened, but other than that, a fabulous, non rushed, and wonderful dining experience however expensive.14/01/2013 16:00:00outstanding sushi. unfortunatelyoutstanding sushi. unfortunately closed for lunch at weekends.03/01/2013 16:00:00Great food....at a price! One feels very welcome and special at Umo. The food is fresh, innovative and balanced and the team is very knowledgable about the food and wine. The only downside is that the portions are tiny. I had to order a second main in order to feel satisfied!20/12/2012 16:00:00best japanese in london?Excellent. Millions times better than nobu. Highly recommended09/10/2012 00:00:00Umu - great night out.Our dining experience at Umu was great. The food was fresh, service was attentive and the ambience was perfectly suited to a nice romantic evening out. Price wise - admittedly a bit on the expensive side for how much food you get, but it's the entire experience (and not just the food) that you go to Umu for. Worth going to.15/09/2012 00:00:00
