A word from Tsunami - West End
In the heart of the West End, Charlotte Street is home to some of London’s most popular eateries and Tsunami is no exception. This modern Japanese restaurant is a tranquil haven just moments from bustling Soho, so it’s an ideal setting for laid-back lunches and intimate pre-theatre dinners. The interior is cool and contemporary; complete with sleek banquette seating and delicate floral motifs on the walls. The expertly prepared sushi and sashimi will satisfy even the fussiest Japanese food fan and the menu also offers delicious hot dishes. Our favorites include the traditional chicken yakitori; sizzling teriyaki beef; and deliciously crisp black cod tempura with wasabi mayo. For a light and elegant meal in W1, Tsunami is hard to beat.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Tsunami never disappoints with good quality food. The black cod and tuna tartar are beautiful and keep me coming back, just as good as Nobu. Service was excellent and the ambience is good for a small restaurant. The prices are quite expensive but to be expected for the high standards, next time I may go when there is an offer as drinks add up quickly too. Not sure how many times I've been to this branch and the one in Clapham but I will continue to return. "

  • "I like Tsunami. I think this restaurant hits the mark for being decent japanese food that isn't extortionate. When taking into account the TT discount, it is far better than Yo Sushi and similar other ones around the same price point."

  • "One of my favourite Japanese restaurants..food is still excellent, but hard to say it's still as good value as before..the black cod miso has really gone up in price, which used to make Tsunami a nice alternative to Nobu for the dish..but overall, compared to other Japanese fusion places in london, Tsunami is still a great place for food - the kataifi prawns, their volcano sushi - all quite original and worth the trip for..a solid 4 stars and well recommended!"

  • "Took a friend here to celebrate his birthday. Japanese food is his favourite - he loved the food at Tsunami. And left very happy - as did I. Waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. Will dine here again!"

  • "Brilliant evening. Lovely little restaurant. Excellent food. Friendly, attentive staff"

  • "We enjoyed the food. I would recommend eating more of the starters and have it to share as the main meals weren't that good. The food is a bit pricey as you would expect from any Japanese restaurant in London, however we booked it with toptable with 50% discount on food so it was very good value for money. I would go back again just for the yellowtail sashimi which was superb!"

  • "overpriced for what it is, even with the discount. the sushi and sushimi is good although i don't recommend the scallops or japanese omellette at all. the clapham joint is much better ambience and feels worth the price."

  • "The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful in guiding us towards menu and cocktail choice."

  • "Very good quality sushi with the 40% offer. Highly recommend for a low key sushi meal with a cosy atmosphere."

  • "The Venue had a very modern feel to it & when we had arrived close to the start to the evening, it was empty but very quickly the entire floor was filled up with other diners. The Food is quite good & looked / tasted fresh but for the Mains, I would say that the portions you get was slightly small compared to what I had in mind. It was more of a 'Starter' Dish than a Main Course. The Sushi portions were quite reasonable though! In terms of the Service, it was quite good, we were seen to very quickly but within around 10 minutes after we had seated, Staff were already asking us for our choices & when we had politely stated that we were not ready, they had came back within 5 minutes to ask again so I did find them slightly pushy in general."

  • "Lovely meal, very enjoyable, but not quite the amazing experience I had heard. Much smaller than I expected, with food that was good rather than spectacular, but that may just be my own tastes of course. Would definitely go back though."

  • "The 40% off offer is great value for money, given that the food at Tsunami is generally of superb quality! We particularly enjoyed the truffle rib-eye as well as the volcano roll. In addition, the kataifi prawns make for a wonderful appetiser. Would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant for the great ambience and fantastic food."

  • "We had dinner with 20% off food offer and really enjoyed the food. We have been to Tsunami before, but the food is always excellent, beautifully presented and very tasty. We will return again soon"

  • "Wonderful Japanese food - very fresh sushi and light tempura. All our dishes were incredible. Staff were very attentive. Would highly recommend and have returned myself on a number of occasions."

  • "The food is fine, a cheap Nobu version if that's what you fancy. The service however was chaotic and generally pretty bad. Wine menu taken away without checking if we wanted drinks, food orders forgotten, had to wave staff over repeatedly, sake put down but cups took another 5min, staff had no idea of ingredients in dishes. Overall I would not go back or recommend to anyone else."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "and I would come back again, sushi delicious, service really good and the cocktails still as delicious as the first and second time there."

  • "Located in the lovely Charlotte Street away from the noise of Tottenham Court Road, we had a lovely late meal for two here on a Saturday night. sushi was delicious - especially the volcano dish - great presentation and taste (note this dish doesn't show on the restaurants on-line menu). Drinks were delicious and inventive too. Really enjoyed it and ultimately wasn't sad that I couldn't get a table at Roka."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "Great food, good service but not very vibrant... If u was a quiet meal wiv other half this is the place."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "We had a lovely dinner here but avoided the set Valentines menu which seemed pricey. Instead we started with generous portions of salmon sashimi, followed by amazing black cod, and a rich ribeye with mushrooms and truffle sauce. Service was friendly although they got the timing of the dishes a bit off, but they were happy to let us walk out with a rose and a balloon so all good really!!"
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "Great value, good quality sushi. We abused the offer which was brilliant but drank rather a lot of wine which upped the price!! Defo recommended. Loved the snow crab"

  • "I had read some mixed reviews about this restaurant on Toptable, some of the negative comments were regarding the service (although they seemed to be referring to some small details). The comments on the food were always positive so thought I wold give it a try. I was very happy with the food, really nice. I fully recommend this place and we will go again. Small, cute, romantic. Service was good and the price was also good considering we had cocktails and two bottles of warm Sake and we left the restaurant full."

  • "Ate at Tsunami for second time last night. Sushi and maki are good but main courses are overpriced and portions are small and meanly presented. Everything seems a little grudging. We asked for tap water (an environment saving issue rather than a financial one) and the waiter brought a jug, poured us half a glass each then took the jug away. Why not just have water on the table? We spent £120 ( only one glass of wine) and my partner was still hungry. Service good but stretched. Room unbelievably hot. Tsunami could be an excellent neighbourhood restaurant but these little touches make me unlikely to return."

  • "Good food, and good value with the TT discount. Not the best sushi ever, but definitely a big step up from the likes of YoSushi. For its price point, it's good. I loved the soup too... Tsunami's spicy miso definitely stands out amongst what some might see as a fairly boring Japanese staple. The dragon volcano thing -- a large tower of sushi -- looks spectacular but the sauce drenched over it made it taste worse, unfortunately. Otherwise, I would have really enjoyed it. Decor is nothing great, but good enough. The main question is would I go back? Yes, definitely."

  • "The quality of the food and service were outstanding, which made the experience of dining here very good. But I would say the ambince of the restaurant suffers a little through it's poor taste in music or muzac"
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Wanted a Japanese restaurant that did good grilled eel and so came across tsunami. Food was excellent and although Unagi is my fav I have to say the black cod was divine - so perfectly flavoured and cooked. If you're into Japanese seafood, give this restaurant a go, I'm sure it won't disappoint."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Not sure if I was late or the restaurant is at the wrong end of the street but I felt quite bored as there was no ambiance, the restaurant was empty - it was just me and my friend. It will probably be a while before I return back to the same venue."

  • "fabulous food, very nice setting, and super friendly staff"
    dined on 05/02/2014
  • "Went here on a weekday before 7pm to take advantage of the 40% discount. Without it I would feel the prices are overly expensive for the amount of food you get. Sushi is excellent, loved the tuna truffle mayo rolls, although at a premium price! The jumbo volcano rolls are nice, but I felt the sauce was a little strong and made the ingredients inside tasteless. The tempura was ok and the scallops, whilst tasty, for £8 seemed like a rip-off for essentially one small scallop (sliced into 4). Black Cod was very tasty and succulent. The sauce that came with it wasn't needed as the cod was already covered in a sweet glaze. Truffle Rib eye steak was also tender and full of flavour. All in all it was a delicious meal that dented the wallet."

  • "Black cod is to die for!!! Cocktails are too good especially the whisky one with Blackberries. And the prawns for starters - are amaze!"
