Diner Reviews
  • "although a little pricey for a midweek dinner, the food was great, as always. Service was a bit slow on this occasion but will undoubtedly return"

  • "Do not bother with this restaurant. They pack in too many people and the kitchen cannot cope. Half the food did not arrive and the waiters just blamed the kitchen and refused all responsibility. Food - when you receive it - is good but is it worth only receiving half of your order after copious complaints and sitting for over 2 hours for a total of 5 small dishes. Over-hyped, over-packed, will not return."

  • "Tsunami is our family treat restaurant. Our kids are 10 & 12 and love going there. We usually go for a 6/6:30pm seating so we are out when all the trendier crowd arrive. I've noticed that there another families in there for an early seating. The sushi is fresh and there are plenty of options on the menu for all of us. We introduced our daughter to Volcano Rolls and she's hooked! There are also plenty of cooked fish and meat options, it's not just sushi."

  • "Great place and good ambience, food top notch and the Sake warm hit the spot"

  • "Food was excellent as always. Volcano roll was amazing!!! Sadly no Gruner Veltliner any more but Alsatian Riesling was a good alternative."

  • "Second visit and food is still very good. Nice service - not too rushed. Not cheap though unless you go on the set menu which is good value."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "My partner and I had a Tuesday dinner booking, the restaurant was very quiet at first but more diners joined throughout are evening creating a really nice atmosphere. The service was fantastic and the cocktails even better! We shared a couple of starters and had the sea bass for main, both courses where really delicious. We decided during the meal that we would definitely come back for a sushi lunch. A great place for a date night."

  • "This is one of the few places open on sunday evening, so that's great. It's also across the road from clapham high st station, which makes it really easy to find. Apparently this place is good for date nights, as my sister and I were surrounded by couples when we went. It gets crowded around 8, and pretty calm when we went, at 6.45pm. I really liked the selection of rolls available. I ordered the volcano roll, which was very tasty. This place isn't for someone looking for an "authentic" experience, though. My sister said it was 'ok', like a western version of japanese food. We're not japanese though :P I would come back just to try all the different sushi rolls; I'm a big fan of that."

  • "Brought a friend here for a catch up lunch and had a great table, great service and such a selection that we ordered lots of plates and shared them like Tapas. Had been before and love this place and love the selection of delicious food. I will be back."

  • "This is my favourite Japanese restaurant; on this occasion we were celebrating a birthday and the staff treated us all wonderfully. The food was excellent (especially the soft shell crab tempura)..."
    dined on 17/03/2014
  • "We had some great sushi here. It isn't too expensive, and close for me, so we checked it out. I definitely will be going back as it is convenient for me and yummy!"
    dined on 03/09/2013
  • "We were recommended to eat here by a fried who's lived in Clapham a while, and we can see why: great food in a great location. We will be coming again."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "Fantastic service but I only went for the black cod tempura and they had run out. Our waiter, whose name I never found out ordered on our behalf and I wasn't disappointed. Also go free shots as we ordered a new cocktail. Great evening."
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "Went for a family meal. Ordered a good mixture of things from the menu. Everything was great. Really good evening!"
    dined on 24/02/2014
  • "Took a date here who was brand new to sushi. She absolutely loved it! The sushi selection was great and presentation was fantastic! The cocktails were brilliant - highly recommend the Tsunami and the Lychee Mojito!"
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "Have been here many times and love it. The food is approaching Nobu, Roka quality but the price makes it good value for what you get. Black cod a little on the pricey side @ £28 but everything else is worth what you pay. Good atmosphere and location for the pubs of the high street."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "Have been a number of times to Tsunami and always enjoy the food and ambience. Great selection on the menu and everything we had was fabulous! The cocktails are delicious too."

  • "Service and food was great. Love sushi..Would like to go again.."

  • "Great meal & amazing service. Only the lights went up & down a bit making it difficult to read menu."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Been here a few times recently and it's amazing. The Volcano, the truffle rib-eye - absolutely superb. Make sure to order the oyster shooter as well - amazing! Decent value too, unlike other Japanese restaurants in London."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Consistently excellent food and beautifully presented. Probably one of the best for sushi and Asian food in general. I would highly recommend it."
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "the food was ok but the atmosphere really poor and we felt like the waiting staff didnt want us there."
    dined on 30/11/2013
  • "Tsunami has become our neighbourhood Japanese restaurant and we go there everytime we want good sushi and yakitori. However, today the food was a little disappointing. The udon noodles tasted like they were from a packet and the yakitori was a little bland. The nori for the sushi was chewy, indicating that it had been left out too long. Wish the food was consistently great but sadly that wasn't the case today. We would still go back for the convenience but wish they'd sort out quality of their food."
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "Lychee martinis and miso cod - a delicious treat for a Friday evening. If you're with a small group ask for one of the round booth tables. Friendly service."
    dined on 21/02/2014
  • "We have been to Tsunami on Charlotte Street before and the food is just as good here. Its a larger venue and was busy when we went but that was good in a buzzy way. The service was good, food was tasty and cocktails deadly."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "Generally good standard of food. Unfortunately service was terrible. The food remained a good standard but the whole meal was ruined because of the staff's attitude towards us. The waiter spilled an entire tray of cocktails over my new coat (which is completely ruined) & the entire contents of bag. It was clearly to much to expect any help in clearing the mess, let alone an apology. Would have loved to hang them but wasn't asked. Staff were rude, ordering drinks meant going to find anyone and rattling out as much of our order at them in the 5 second attention they allowed us before they walked away. Tsunamis clearly riding on previous good reputation but obviously customers are no longer important. V. Dissappointing as was frequent customer"
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "Our food was delicious, every course was a taste sensation but the entire evening was ruined by unhelpful serving staff with a very miserable attitude. Our drinks took forever to arrive, we had to ask twice to order food and even then our questions were met with disdain. I shan't be returning there."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "This is Japanese food at its finest. The snow crab dumplings are to die for. The staff are all extremely polite and friendly and they have a good selection of cocktails to choose from too."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "The ambiance was lovely, it wasn't noisy like most restaurants i know. Background music was also good.. smooth jazz for the matured mind."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "You should definitely try this restaurant, the food is excellent - combined with a great atmosphere! The drinks service was a little on the slow side, but cocktails were great. All in all, excellent until it comes to paying the bill. A bit pricey but well worth it!"
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "Great food with great value. Fancy location in Clapham North. Delicious Sushi meals and yummy, creative cocktails"
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Good ingredients nicely cooked - although quite expensive for what it is."
    dined on 06/02/2014
  • "Had better experiences at Tsunami (both Fitzrovia and Clapham branches). Shame on this occasion the food did not live up to previous visits. Dynamite beef (which came highly recommended) was a simple sirloin literally saturated in pepper (far from inventive - here's how to recreate: take a spoon, load with peppercorns, eat from said spoon). Other dishes which should have been served warm were straight from the fridge. Paid the £120 bill for the two of us (is this Nobu?) and got out. No immediate desire to return."
    dined on 28/12/2013
  • "Service was excellent and food very good. We havn't been there for three years since we moved out of London. We were delighted to still see it thriving on all counts"
    dined on 30/01/2014
  • "Have dined here a couple of times & it never fails to impress! Delicious food. Excellent service. Great atmosphere."
    dined on 28/01/2014
  • "As a regular visitor to Tsunami, I was not surprised that the food and cocktails were delicious - they always are. We shared a couple of starters... The squid is an absolute must! We then shared the miso cod and finished off with some sushi. In the past the service been a bit variable - sometimes a bit rushed and occasionally a little surly. However, on this visit the service was superb - friendly and unhurried. It's not a cheap eat but it is great value when you compare it to other "high end" Japanese restaurants."
    dined on 06/12/2013
  • "The staff was lovely! The food delicious! However the portions were too small. And a delay in getting the food getting to the table, my partner was almost finished with his meal when mine arrived."
    dined on 25/01/2014
  • "I used to be a regular at Tsunami but after taking a group of friends there Saturday I was so embarassed. Food was really good as always but servings have become MUCH smaller, my £8.60 yellowtail tartare was tiny and the service was appalling. Totally ignored, had to ask things more than once to get it (3 times for a bottle of lemonade) and was given duck describes on menu as "on a bed of green beans" with 4 green beans. Final straw: when we paid the waiter had the cheek to ask us why we under tipped by £4 when actually we overtipped on top of service charge by about £7 (it was already about £25). He and his colleague just laughed and barely apologised. Couldn't believe treating customers like that, I hope it was just a one off, Tsunami."

  • "Had lovely food at Tsunami - really interesting sushi in particular. We also had amazing service from a waiter called David who gave great recommendations and was all round fantastic, but dire service after he politely came to tell us he was leaving us in the hands of the other staff when his shift ended after last orders - he'd left us with dessert menus, and we tried to get attention for over half an hour before giving up and paying at the till. It's very loud - or was on Sat evening when we were in and it was full with loud music playing, which makes it hard to have a normal conversation. Still, full marks to the food and very many thanks to David."

  • "I've been to Tsunami a few times now and the quality of food is amazing. The sashimi is excellent and we enjoyed selecting our dishes. Drinks, from the wines to the cocktails were amazing. Note that this place is about quantity, so there are other places where a plater of sushi/sashimi will get you more quantity. Service, on this occasion was prompt and accurate, but lacked warmth or smiles, this is only annoying as the tip is added on automatically, and I wouldn't of paid 12.5% for the service received."
