Tsunami - Clapham Ratings and Reviews

As ever with Tsunami Clapham the food was totally amazing - squid, jalapeno yellowtail and sushi rolls particularly good and delivered exquisitely. Unfortunately also as ever the service was completely idiosyncratic (in a bad way - you never know if they actually understand what you are asking!) and repeatedly distracts you from what should be a brilliant restaurant and a great evening out.
We arrived exactly on time and was told we had to wait for our table (at the bar where they proceeded to milk us there). Overall though, it was a thoroughly pleasant experience all round.

Great food but avoid the desserts, they're an afterthought and spoil the experience.
We had a memorable evening at Tsunami. Nothing was too much trouble. The waitress was brilliant at suggesting what to order and when we mentioned we were celebrating my daughter's birthday a sparkling firework was brought out with her desert and the staff sang happy birthday. The food was absolutely delicious. It was one of the best nights out I have had in ages.
Good night out
Great meal of sashimi, squid etc. Thought the black cod was too sweet though
Food reliably good but chaotic service
I know this restaurant well regularly visiting four or five times a year over the last 5-10 years. The food is generally very good but on this last visit, the service was really poor. I'm always inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt particularly when it's a busy Friday night but after having been shown to my table, I waited 20 minutes before i decided I'd been studiously ignored long enough and asked if I could order a drink. For the rest of the evening, we had to consistently ask to be able to order starters, then mains. One brand new member of staff couldn't tell my friend where the loos were (do they not have an induction that includes this sort of info?) and our waiter acted like it was an inconvenience to serve us. This isn't the first poor service I've had at Tsunami but it's the first time in a while. Please do better. I want to come back but you make it easy to go elsewhere when there are lots of equally good eateries around that don't have this awful service.
Good food but very noisy!

Good food but very poor service!
The food was just OK but the service was very poor. Only one main course was served and the other one was only served after we've asked twice for it. It came 20 minutes after the first main course was served and it was lukewarm. The waiter said that the chef forgot about it. We were in rush so there was no time to talk to the manager. Shame as it could be a nice experience.
Delicious food- poor service this time
Me and my friend visited Tsunami at the beginning of the week. Food was delicious as always, we had couple of starters - 4 pieces of deep fried prawns with cucumber was amazing (sorry, I don't remember the name), black cod for main course with seasonal vegetables - it was melting in the mouth- so yummy(!), and dragon roll with soft shell crab roll - beautiful presentation and taste matching it! I was disappointed with service this time as our waiter wasn't present most of the time. He gave us great recommendations for what to order but seemed to be busy with something else all evening. So we had to wait until our glasses were topped up with champagne (which wasn't chilled enough once we ordered it but it cooled down in the ice bucket later...). The bill came at £162 (including 12.5% service charge) which was ok considering the price of champagne but a little bit more attention to the details and present of the waiter throughout the night would have made our experience more enjoyable.

Absolutely loved the smoking presentation of the sashimi platter, the spicy tuna maki rolls were delicious and our favourite was the spicy salt and pepper squid. Yum! Will be back!
The food there is excellent, both times I have been now it just keeps getting better, the service is impeccable. It's just a great place.

Professional and friendly staff. Incredibly fresh fish! Loved every bite!
Amazing quality in a local spot. Perfect for special occasions. Scallops starter and Black cod main are off the charts
Nice service, nice deco, and good food. Ideal for a quite and pleasant week night out.
Fantastic food. Average service
If I could have made it 3.5 stars I would have. We went on a Saturday night. It was busy but not totally full. The staff were friendly and the food was good. However, service was just a bit slow. It took 20 minutes for a drinks order to be taken. When we asked for help with the menu it was given but all a bit rushed and off hand. We were immediately recommended the most expensive things on the menu. Once we had ordered the food arrived in quick succession and was delicious. This is a lovely restaurant and we would go back - just a shame the level of service didn't quite match the food.
Fantastic every time
We've been regulars for years and it's simply our favourite place to dine. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere buzzing yet not too noisy or unsettling. I can't recommend this place enough. You won't be disappointed! The secret is to order everything! It's all spot on.
Interesting and beautifully presented
Enjoyed every dish esp soft shell crab tempura and black Cod. Vibrant atmosphere and busy even week night
Far too noisy
The noise level was so high that we could not hear each other speak without shouting. Even then it was difficult to hear. That ruined the evening. I certainly would never go to Tsunami again.

Second time I've eaten hear and the food was excellent again. Good service and a really enjoyable experience. Would recommend highly
Ok but not as good as it used to be
An ok meal. Nothing terrible, but nothing outstanding either. I went 2 years ago & it was delicious, so it's gone down hill in my opinion. There's a good buzz there though so maybe a case of style over substance. A fun restaurant but no gastronomic delights
Good quality but limited menu and poor value
£30 for an order of gin dara? (Black cod) you have to be kidding! If you are looking for a traditional Japanese restaurant, look elsewhere. The flavour and quality were good but the portions were small, the prices too high and there was a poor selection of Japanese main dishes. And then to add Korean items to the menu is just wrong in my opinion. Reasonably entertaining ambience and decent service. Go, but expect to pay a lot and don't expect an authentic Japanese experience.
Delicious as always
Have been to Tsunami only many occasions over the years and absolutely love it. Great food, friendly staff and delicious drinks.
Probably the best sushi I have eaten in London and thats saying something.
It was a boiling day and we fancied nothing but sushi. Tsunami hit the spot, provided us with some lovely food, very friendly and helpful service plus a seat outisde on a Saturday night. We had a great time and will be back - go!

Food was nice and well cooked. Just strange service. Felt like they where all on a training day.
Great food, superb relaxed yet attentive service
I think nearly everything we tried on the menu we liked, the atmosphere was really nice and tasty, with a few nice outside tables, the service was excellent yet very relaxed and did not feel hurried at all. Very nice evening. Great food, superb relaxed yet attentive service.
A great evening.
We've been here a number of times over the last few years, which is why we went again with our visitors. As always it was great; brilliant food and absolutely impeccable service from our young waitress. As it was a reasonably special occasion (or so I kid myself), cocktails were obligatory and two bottles of very good Gruner Veltliner were not excessive between six. However, the bill was pretty eye-watering but overall, given that we spent £120 on drink, it was money well spent. And the changes to the interior, separating the bar from the dining area. were beautifully done.

Good atmosphere, was busy. Food was nice. Nothing truly memorable on walking away. The mocktails were pretty/ presented well!
The service becomes ever more idiosyncratic
Food top notch. Even arrived in the right order which must be a first here. Service just continues to be erratic, our server could hardly understand us and the entire meal was sent to tables around us rather than our own table.
My partner and I had a great time at Tsunami and we will definitely be coming back - if only to try the rest of the menu!! Everything looked and tasted fantastic and it is a shame that we filled up on sushi because the main menu sounded brilliant too!! We could not recommend this restaurant enough!!
The food at Tsunami is absolutely superb, and the waitresses are a delight. However, I thoroughly dislike the restaurant's policy of adding a gratuity to the bill, of which the staff only gets half. This is deliberately deceiving customers, who think, oh good, there is a tip added, we don't need to think about that, and shows Mr. Sam, the owner, to be a greedy and exploitative man.
Good food in lovely venue
Food was tasty. Service was good. Nice ambience. I love going there.
One of our favourite restaurants which never fails to deliver. Food is phenomenal, great cocktails. Unfortunately despite not being very busy was surprisingly difficult to get staffs attention- they were having a little too much fun messing about in front of the hatch to the kitchen. Think service is actually better when it's busy!! Will still go back again but hope that service improves next time
The food was really lovely, nicest bit of steak I've had in a long while, Japanese infused and the truffle sauce was out of this world, very lovely place and would defo return.
Great food as always
Food was great, as always. Service was a little confusing. Our waitress was new, so not sure on certain options. Desert ordering was a lot of backwards and forwarding, and eventually two lots of ice cream came at two different times., 20 minutes apart. .. Sorry to say not great service on this ocassion. Maybe the restaurant to consider certain aspects of staff training and how to support then. To be fair we paid over £100 for two people, so expect a bit more knowledge when asking about food options and desert to be served at the same time.
Delicious as always
The food was excellent, the squid is some of the best I have ever eaten and the aubergine with sesame sauce was fantastic - the service of drinks was very slow, but overall greatly enjoyed our evening
Fantastic food! Will be going back
We went early so we could take advantage of the 50% off cocktails before 7pm. The Royal Dynasty with the strawberry sorbet cocktail was incredible. I was expecting it to be pretty quiet for 6.30pm on a Monday but there were already a few tables filled and people just kept on coming in. We had a sashimi platter to start which was divine and we shared 3 mains of pork belly, teriyaki salmon and wasabi chicken - all absolutely jammed packed with flavour and thoroughly enjoyable. Service took a mild dip as the place got gradually busier and we obviously had the table right under the air con as it got quite chilly and we had to ask for it to be switched off! Overall a fab dinner and we'll definitely be going back.
For is good, rolls especially. Sashimi a little thin on the ground, and salmon a bit stringy. Expensive though, especially as the house hot Sake is £18 for the smaller bottle. No-ones fault but couple next door 'getting to know each other' didn't add to the ambience overly.
