Diner Reviews
  • "Average food: the steak was luke warm for two of us, the dish called “spring greens” was only one vegetable (singular not plural) and was unappetising soggy cabbage. Poor service: the guy that served us kept interrupting our conversation (e.g. to get our order, even though some of us were still looking at the menu). Repeatedly pushed past one of us, knocked coats off chairs, reached across in front of our faces to pick up plates, etc… "

  • "The description that sticks is 'like an up market Nandos'. However, Nando's accepts what it is and therefore far less pretentious. Nothing wrong with the food or the service and you are served in a Tramshed; so it does what it promises but no more. Ate with 8 friends and the evening was great, perhaps because there was no distraction, it was all about the people round the table rather than the food or ambience. I would only return as part of a larger group. "

  • "* we have been a few times before and enjoy eating at Tramshed. However, we order the chicken again and I can not remember haven eaten before such dry chicken. Despite adding sauce the chicken meat was very dry. I * As a main I had asparagus that were very good. * the service was slow and very difficult to catch anyone attention I fear I will not be going back in quite some time"

  • "I enjoyed a nice Sunday lunch with friends and the location is great to have a nice group lunch with different sizes of groups. 6 people were easily eating at the side tables and there were also very big groups of 12 which the restaurant could easily handle. Great steaks and the best were the chips (french fries) and the sauce for the steaks! "

  • "Great venue, fun kitchen style dining with super quick and friendly service. We came for my Husband's birthday with friends, husband described as a 'posher Nando's', I kind of agree, doesn't quite do it justice but it is very much like an upmarket fast food restaurant using good quality ingredients. Great restaurant for a night out with friends, plenty of atmosphere and to top off the cocktails are really delicious. Would recommend and come again."

  • "If you only serve steak and chicken, one would hope they had mastered the 2 dishes. However, we were disappointed by the dry roast chicken which lacked flavour. The rib eye steak was cooked as requested and couldn't fault but was expensive at £65 for 2. Sea salted caramel fondue was lovely as were the inventive starters."

  • "Meat was lovely - we shared the Porterhouse. Sides great and the room is impressive (unless you don't like preserved cows suspended above you). Was my 3rd time at Tram Shed and would return again."

  • "Really nice place, fantastic food. Highly recommended"

  • "It's a simple model - Chicken and chips - but well done and very tasty. The starters are interesting and shareable, and the wine list exhibits a good choice across a range of prices. It's a big cavernous space, and has quite a buzz in the evenings. Lunch was quieter but still a good eating experience. The staff do get very busy and it's sometimes hard to catch their eyes for the bill, but all in all worth the visit."

  • "We went tramshed for a birthday treat and had a fantastic meal. Helpful explanantion of the dishes. The starters were fab, Moons Green Beer Stix were a favaourite. Then came the chicken - nicely carved at the table and served with lots of crispy fries. A quick remark that it was a birthday meant the pudding came with a candle and happy birthday written in chocolate. A nice little touch. The staff were attentive but not obtrusive. All in all a great meal at very reasonable prices"

  • "We came here in a party of 5 for our daughters birthday, the table was great, lovely ambience, but I have to say.... come on Mark Hix - frozen chips!!!! I expected better than that. Overall I thought it was good value for London and the staff were really nice, they even made a makeshift birthday cake for my daughter which i thought was a lovely touch. Artwork AMAZING, worth going just to see that. Disappointed we couldn't get into the bar for a pre dinner drink, it was full, but hey we just went to the pub opposite. would go again xxxx"

  • "A great venue, but the food was disappointing and the wine overpriced for what it was. Beer sticks as a starter were Pepperami and my first steak, ordered medium rare came medium well and the waitress argued with me about what would constitute medium rare. Hint, if the meat is only a little pink it's medium at the very least. The steak was at least replaced, but I don't expect a place called Chicken and Steak to get that wrong. This felt more like a theme restaurant than a dining experience."

  • "Had dinner recently at Tramshed with some friends. The atmosphere is great and the décor very of the moment. The service was very good and attentive. We had a selection of good starters to share and the Porterhouse for main course which was perfectly cooked. The deserts were also very good. Some may think the menu is limited (steak or chicken for main) but when everything is done as well as we experienced that really doesn't matter. I will be returning soon."

  • "Tramshed is a brilliant restaurant with very good service. The roast chicken looks and smells amazing, it was however - a bit dry."

  • "Second time here, was such a good experience as always! Food was amazing - though leaning towards the steak more this time, wish we did more of that. The chicken could do with being a little less dry but understand its hard to do! Service is as always, outstanding."

  • "Booked a table at Tramshed for a family birthday Sunday lunch. Service, atmosphere and food were all excellent. I'd recommend it for those looking for something a bit different. I did worry that the two hour slot we were allocated might not be long enough having kids in the group but fortunately we weren't rushed out and everyone enjoyed themselves."

  • "Food was definitely not to the standard I was expecting... Everything came out kind of cold and I expected better beef. My first steak was very well done rather than rare but they were great about changing it. Restaurant itself is beautiful and the staff were very nice."

  • "We thought the steak was really good but chicken was too dry without the gravy. Serving sizes were big. Great place to go for a casual meal. Service was good."

  • "I have been to Tramshed 3 times before and had a great time but on Saturday 5th April Sat by the window directly in line with the walk to toilet we asked to move, staff obliged but the tables for 2 were so cramped and close to other couples it was far from ideal. Steak nice but sides cold. On this occasion I am sad to say I would not recommend to others."

  • "Nice steak, but the chicken was very dry, and no bread like usually offered in steak restaurants. I actually preferred Hixster. We felt very rushed and were hurried off our table after 2 hours without being able to get dessert, this time slot wasn't mentioned to us when we sat down. Felt now like a canteen than a restaurant. Liked the Damien Hirst piece. Probably wouldn't return, better places for steak, but worth a visit."

  • "Visited Friday night with two friends and had a fantastic evening. The three of us shared the porterhouse steak which was perfectly cooked, chips were fantastic and a few sides accompanied by an Argentinian Malbec. Lovely evening, highly recommend it, even if it is a bit pricey."
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "We went for a Mother's Day meal, ended up with 4 pieces of rib eye steak as they'd run out of Rib on the Bone to Share which was way more than we expected! The steaks was cooked totally perfect, so scrumptious. Huge yorkshire puddings, but roast potatoes should be crunchier. Lettuce heart salad is a joke for a price tag of 3.95, think it'd be better to go a bit more sophisticated & add something else in there? Great atmosphere though bottled Crate lager for 5.50 is also way overpriced. I know it's got a HIX brand label, but if you are going for a laid back vibe the menu should have a bit more creative pazazz to it for the price you're paying."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "Good atmosphere, the Damien Hirst piece was very large and visible from wherever you sat, which was the initial selling point. Food slightly on the expensive side, but it was nice. Service was excellent, waiters very attentive and knowledgeable."

  • "Don't understand why I left it so long to visit. Steak was to die for. Atmosphere was buzzing and our waitress was so attentive and helpful."

  • "The service was good. The food showed no skill and the chicken and gravy were too salty. I told the staff at the time and they said they would mention to the chef. Overpriced ordinary bottled beer too."

  • "Tramshed has been a great experience indeed, few things to note. The place is such a hip place with a great ambience , service was great and on time having very friendly staff , something you don’t see much in London. Improvments: The fried items , onion rings , fries..crockets , etc was too heavy , the quality of oil could be improved. Not easy to reach at all , a big sign would help on the mian street. overall was a great experience and will definitely go again."
    dined on 01/04/2014
  • "When you pretty much only serve 2 mains, you should do them right. Everyone's steak at our table was overcooked and it was unfortunate because I could tell the meat was really nice and would have been perfect if they were cooked correctly. Unfortunately we were there as a business meeting so it wasn't the right setting to complain. Atmosphere was cool and service was ok."
    dined on 31/03/2014
  • "This restaurant does exactly what it says, beef or chicken, both extremely well. The setting is very interesting and theatrical with a Damian Hirst suspended in mid-air. The service on the day we went was wonderful, with the waitress noticing everything at all times. We felt very well looked after. Excellent value lunchtime chicken or beef (or both) 'sandwich' and fries. It was huge!"

  • "Been to tramshed a few times now. A fantastic place to go and eat. Incredibly welcoming and brilliant service throughout. Have eaten the steak which is always perfect and this time round tried the chicken for 2, again another perfect dish which we both enjoyed. Good fun and you are never rushed. Hopefully you are lucky enough to be served by Lauren which adds to a brilliant night. Will see you soon tramshed!"

  • "My daughter suggested The TramSHED as a place to take her for her birthday lunch. As I don't live in London, I booked the table online which made things easier. I had the opportunity to add a 'special request', but didn't think to complete it. We brought along a cake for the birthday girl on the spur of the moment. The staff were very accommodating and wangled it so we didn't have to pay a 'cakage' fee! The setting and art work were most appreciated by an arty mum & daughter. Thank you for a pleasant & different dining experience."

  • "There's a lot to like about Tramshed. The industrial-style warehouse design is as good as any of it's forbears across the Atlantic. And although it's a big space it still feels quite cozy, which is impressive. Staff and service get the balance just right - casual & friendly but suitably attentive. In fact, the only real issue is the chicken. Shame considering it specialises in steak and chicken. It's not bad, but Mark Hix usually comes up with considerably better than 'not bad'. To be fair my friends had steaks, and very good they were too, ditto the ox tongue salad. But with chicken restaurants popping up all over London, there are better and cheaper to be had. However, that gripe aside I defy anyone to go here and not have a good time."

  • "A lovely informal experience. Only drawback was a very very noisy party upstairs!"
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "A cathedral to the lib-dem carnivore - a quirky Hixette that dishes up perfect roasted upside-down chicken sage and onioned to within an inch of it's attached splayed feet, and perfect porterhouse with blackened exterior and bloodied interior. The large banquette perimeter provides privacy from the piranhic hoards in the central feeding area. Hirst's suspended C&B provides diners with a focal point for the eyeline and otherwise pointless gabbling..Not for the kiddywinks as the woman on woman slow-mo framed graphic in the men's quaint bogs would have yoof dallying longer than was healthy. The magnum sized Rioja for three took our craven trilogy through from "soup to nuts". The waiters lights were switched on - good to employ intelligence, eh?"
