Diner Reviews
  • "We were adventurous and went for the raw fish platter. It was really nice just too much fish for beginners to this sort of food! Staff friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back, but would choose something else instead!"

  • "I never had Peruvian food prior to going to this restaurant, but I had a great experience over at Tierra Peru last week. The food was great, and the service was excellent. The only downer was the fact that the restaurant is a little bit too bright which made it less suitable for a romantic date. However, it was still very nice and the value for money was good so all in all, I'd definitely recomment others to go as well."

  • "We were a group of 7 Norwegian people and 1 Peruvian. For me (Peruvian) it was like coming home. For the Norwegians it was the discovery of a new world. I could only hear "Hmmmm", "ooooh", "delicious", "so exciting!", "how do you prepare this?" The place is really nice with lots of pictures and fantastic Peruvian music. The people who work at the restaurant were really kind and friendly! I recommend the Pisco Sour, it was AMAZING!"

  • "A repeat visit to this warm cosy Peruvian with rejuvenating pisco sours and good value fresh dishes. Located off Islington's main drag, this is a very good destination restaurant. The only downside is the crammed seating. Great for leaning over to check your neighbour's choices but terrible if you're elbowed in your back by ungainly unaware diners."

  • "We had a very enjoyable Thursday evening at Tierra Peru, the manager was extremely accommodating of all requests and very attentive. Wait staff a little less on the ball, but very hospitable. Food was delicious and interesting, mains were served in big portions - so much so we couldn't fit in the third course which would have been free under the 50% of mains deal. All in all I could happily recommend Tierra Peru to anyone looking for good food at a reasonable price."

  • "We had a table booked but they could not find the booking we were offered an awful table right next to the door we had to wait 30mins for a better one the service was beyond slow and they didn't apologise either I have to say the food was amazing but the whole management of the place needs to be revisited we might give it one more go but it would be a shame if the service ruins a place with the potential to be an amazing place to eat"

  • "Tierra Peru is easily the best Peruvian restaurant we've visited in London. The food is outstanding and represents the country's best cuisine. The service is friendly and professional, the venue pleasant and the value excellent. A really good experience, and we've recommended it to all our friends."

  • "True Peruvian food and the best Chicha morada in London! I will go there again as I truly enjoyed the food."

  • "I went here with my husband for a date night and it was something different. The food seemed authentic and unusual. The lemonade had a touch of vanilla in it, the food was accompanies by toasted corn. The cocktail list had some unusual fruit juice combinations and the steak was absolutely delicious, really tender, with a great marinade, probably one of best steaks I have had. It is not cheap, but not overly pricey either."

  • "Arrived, couldn't find our booking. eventually offered us a rubbish table near the toilets. Then found booking & moved us. No apology. Food great but service terrible. Waited ages for the bill too!"

  • "I booked this place as I had never eaten Peruvian food and the location suited. There were also a selection of vegetarian options, which suited one diner. We waited over an hour for our food, though the service on the whole was friendly. The food used imitation soy based meat products, which isn't good. Though I have never eaten Peruvian food, I would question the authenticity. I don't know any cuisine that freely uses imitation meat products - surely Peruvians eat a lot more lentil bean combinations?! It tasted like something I'd make at home (not saying much). I didn't finish my meal and neither did my friend. I felt bad for suggesting this place cause we both thought it was a bit bleugh."
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "I'd not had Peruvian food before so can't comment on authenticity but the waitresses seemed very knowledgable and were helpful in aiding our decision. I'm vegetarian, whilst my partner eats meat. They were great for altering one of the platters so that both of us had a great choice (and were completely stuffed)."

  • "We went with a group of several Peruvians. The main courses and desserts were all very good (carapulcra, arroz con pato, escabeche...). We were a bit disappointed with the starters, though. The causa was dry and the tequeños very different from what you eat in Peru. We didn't try the ceviche, so we can't say anything about that. Overall I'd say it was quite good and I'd go back to try more dishes!"

  • "Brilliant food, excellent service and good atmosphere. A lovely little surprise."

  • "First time here and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. The food was really good and would definitely go back again"

  • "Tierra Peru was a welcome retreat from a dank, windy February Monday. The food is never less than interested and I look forward to trying the wide range of cocktails sometime"

  • "I reserved a table on 14th feb. on arrival we were not greeted by any staff. i understand on this particular evening the restaurant was busy. so we decided to sit in the central area of the restaurant so we would be easily seen. we ordered the special set menu recommended to me. we were seated for approx 30 mins before any staff member approached us for any drinks or food orders. once we had ordered we noticed couples who had arrived after us, who also ordered the special set menu. Their food was brought out after approx 15 mins. our food had still not arrived. in the end we had to remind the staff we still haven't had our food.this was now over an hour ! would just like to say the food was fantastic but the service was very poor."

  • "I had been curious about this place for a while and last Saturday we went for it. Food was nice and tasty. Had a sharing menu for 2 and was completely stuffed after (we didn't actually finished it). Service was good although at times it was a bit difficult to catch the waiters attention."

  • "Really nicely presented food of good quality. Wine was not over - priced, good value for money and special. Very clean restaurant with chilled ambience. Wide menu and staff really want to help you."
    dined on 03/02/2014
  • "This small restaurant has been a great discovery! It looks very simple, but the staff is nice and professional and the food is amazing. The quality of fish and meat is high and they definitely know how to mix them! And the yuca! Love it. On the top of all the Pisco sour they do is outstanding, the same you could have in a high level cocktail bar, but half price."
    dined on 31/01/2014
  • "We booked a table for 2 for the 7 course feast. The food was very average in terms of taste, quality and style. But we were stung on the drinks prices, having to pay for water and a massive service charge on top! Staff very friendly but very over priced for what you got. And don't start me on the dessert..... Tiny:("

  • "The food was great but the service sadly lacking, both in terms of English fluency and politeness."
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "First time for eating Peruvian. Staff very helpful in providing a platter of a selection of food which was carefully explained. Food very tasty. Great cocktails. Small restaurant so booking essential although while we were there 'walk ins' were accommodated well. Good value for money."
    dined on 19/12/2013
  • "We visited Tierra Peru earlier this week and were very impressed by the food. This is a really different cuisine and one that we greatly enjoyed. We had the sharing platters which give you a taste of many different dishes. The battered fish was very good as were the meat dishes (Lamb & Pork) and I think we were all a little less impressed with the fish cooked only in lime juice & spices. We drank a Peruvian wine, which at £29 was good but a bit expensive, and I think next time we will go with a cheaper Chilean wine. The overall bill was about £45/head and again I think a touch expensive for what we had. Will I go back.....?? Definitely, in the new year!"

  • "Real tasty traditional dishes, good service, pleasant setting, reasonable prices. One drawback - I couldn't taste the alcohol in the pisco."
    dined on 15/12/2013
  • "Even though the food was very nice we had to wait quite a long time and this kind of ruin our meal unfortunately. It's a very small place and very busy. Maybe to go during the week. Bit expensive for this kind of service."

  • "Great food, decent service, a bit on the expensive side but worth it."
    dined on 16/11/2013
  • "the only problem with this fine restaurant is that it is too noisy. If they hung some curtains or carpets on the walls that would probably soak up some of the echo."
    dined on 15/11/2013
  • "I visited on Saturday evening with a friend, and I enjoyed the food very much. Especially the pork belly dish was amazing. There are only two of us, so we couldn't try many dishes(One main, two starters and salad), so I would like to visit again to try more. Between the tables are close, so I needed to stand up every time people behind me went to the bathroom, so it might not the place for a romantic occasion. I thought they booked the reservation so tight some group were waiting at the bar for the table to be available. I felt I needed to finish our desert and drinks sooner as I could see people waiting. But I guess it is a good sign they are busy, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, so I would love to visit again!"

  • "I expected this restaurant to be an experience of discovering the wonderful peruvian cuicine for less money tahn it's counterpart CEVICHE, but unfortunately that's not the case here.Poor food, really kitsch ambiance and very high prices for very small portions...That's how I would resume this place! Very disappointing."

  • "Very good and well balanced menu with plenty of vegetarian options"
    dined on 06/11/2013
  • "I was really looking forward to my meal at Tierra Peru, as I had heard so many rave reviews about it. However, I was not overwhelmed by my food or the service at all. Our pisco sours took an age to arrive. The mixed ceviche I ordered had way too much chilli in it (and I have a relatively high chilli tolerance). The tequeños rellenos de queso were bland. For my main meal I ordered the escebeche de pollo, which was also really average. I hate giving a poor review, but sadly this dining experience didn't excite me at all. Perhaps I ordered the wrong dishes, or maybe my expectations were too high because of the high praise reviews I had heard and I enjoyed the food when I visited Peru, but I sadly won't be returning to this restaurant."
    dined on 25/10/2013
  • "Really enjoyed our meal. The food was great and authentic. The staff were friendly and efficient despite it being very busy. Would definitely recommend this place."
    dined on 27/10/2013
  • "It was advertised as a 7 course taster menu with 3 starters, 3 main courses and 1 dessert for 2 people and all we got was a plate of 6 cold dishes in a Lazy Susan platter which was supposed to be the 3 startes and 3 mains all served at the same time. Dessert was separate. Each serving portion was less than half the size of regular portion to be shared by 2 people. Not acceptable for the starters and mains to be served at the same time. Very poor value for the £38.00 I paid on Groupon. I bought it as a treat to a friend visiting from America so it was really disappointing. I have complained to Groupon because after I bought this Groupon offer, they advertised again for an all you can eat buffet for £30.00. Photo available for proof."

  • "I went to Tierra Peru with a friend, both of us having allergies and we were really taken care of. The food was more diverse than I could think of and really good. I will definitely come back"

  • "Tierra Peru has a distinctive "strip mall" vibe, with its glass store front on Islington's Essex Road. Don't let that fool you - the food is the real deal. We enjoyed a tasting menu with Papa Huancaina, Causa Limena, Fish Cerbiche, Aji de Gallina, Jalea de Pescado, and Escabeche de Pollo. Every one of the dishes that we sampled was delicious - a fantastic introduction to Peruvian cuisine. The Pisco Sours topped off a delicious meal. The restaurant is small and can get noisy on a Friday / Saturday night. Bookings at busy times are absolutely essential. Highly recommended."

  • "first visit. two of us ordered cocktails, starters, mains and shared a desert and it was all tasty and used high quality ingredients. the cocktail menu is long bu mostly pisco based and ours were very good. our mixed ceviche and seafood soup staryers were delicious, well prepared and nicely presented. the mains or carapulcra and seafood with plantain were light amd tasty despite our reservations about ordering so many carbs. the extensive dessert menu is fantastic so be sure to leave room. staff very nice but place is busy and service a bit slow. will definitely go again."
    dined on 18/10/2013
  • "I am Peruvian and I recommend Tierra Peru. It has a good selection of Peruvian dishes. The ceviche is really good and not as spicy as other places prepare them. As vegetarians, we are very glad many of the dishes can be prepared as a veggie option. I was very impressed with the 'Aji de Gallina' vegetarian. The Picarones were lovely, unfortunately only two in the plate :-(... We went on a Saturday evening, quite noisy as there were a few groups of friends. But I recommend this place and will come back!!!"

  • "The London fascination with Peru contnue unabated and when I spotted this on Toptable, I decided it was an opportunity to widen my options beyond the truly excellent Lima and the ever popular Ceviche. The Pisco Sour starter here hit the spot. We went for a selction of small plates and for a Sunday lunch that was lovely. Lots of choice, colour and flavour. The service was personal and knowledgeable. At 1330 ther was s sprinkling of diners. By the time we left at 3, the place was heaving. This place has many fans and rightly so. Recommended."
