Diner Reviews
  • "Outstanding. Such a pleasure. Contrary to what I had expected, the experience was far from gimmicky; the restaurant does not rely on its stunning setting alone to awe the punters - though it would have been enough - it takes itself seriously in its food and certainly in its service. You will be hard pressed to find a worthy competitor for The Wolseley in silver service and style in London. "

  • "I had high expectations given the reputation of this restaurant but from the outset, I didn't feel like we were made to feel comfortable. The table wasn't set and the service to lay seemed quite brusque. That said, the Maître d was very polite and brought an extra treat to celebrate my birthday which was very kind of him. The food was fine but definitely not the best afternoon tea I've ever had and on the expensive side. I would recommend The Delaunay over here every time. "

  • "As usual, from the entrance to exit it is all with style, great service and exceptional food. It never fails , but you need to have reservations"

  • "We enjoyed our lunch very much. The staff is friendly and professional and the food is artfully presented and tasty and the atmosphere has afeeling of tradition and quality. We were visiting from the United States."

  • "Great all round, but we ran out of time. Had a 5:45 p.m. booking and were informed that we had "no time" to eat our ordered desserts and wine, so we were forced to leave to make way for the next booking. We re-congregated in Brown's Hotel, Albemarle Street (five minutes' walk), for dessert and a more relaxed ending to our dinner. To be fair, The Wolsey did not add service charge to our bill, as part compensation. Our food did arrive quite quickly, once ordered, but this is not a place to eat/relax over a leisurely dinner. Take your stopwatch!"

  • "Excellent meal at the Wolseley. We had an early dinner before going to the theatre. Food and service both excellent. Would return."

  • "This place is always a delight. The food is great and the ambience is always buzzy. However, the service was a bit confusing this time. We had three waiters constantly coming and asking what we wanted. Also no one told us that we had to leave after two hours, something we mentioned to the manager. So he found us very nice seats at the bar and offered us coffees and drinks. What a treat!"

  • "It was a treat to see the Wolseley, but the Sunday roast was awful. Definitely not the best Sunday lunch in London, and probably the worst quality beef I've seen in 20 years of visiting the city. My husband's roast chicken was equally bad. The roasted potatoes were mushy. It also took more than 10 minutes for the waiter to approach us once we were seated, and we had to ask. It was Mother's Day and the restaurant was full, but we expect more from proprietors who play in this league."

  • "I've been frequenting The Wolseley for more than 10 years. Not so much the last couple of years but my last few visits have been consistent. Very good food with less than good service - food served before drinks, bread served only after asking multiple times, spilled plates, and a general lack of attention. As the food is consistently good I will continue to eat here, but probably less often."

  • "The Wolseley has been on the list for a while and I was not disappointed. It's pretty grand with columns and high ceilings creating a sort of grand European cafe atmosphere. It's smart casual, elegant yet with a real buzz. The food is good and we went for an early dinner. Lots of people were finishing afternoon tea which looked good. Check out the menu online. It's not intimate or romantic but a great place to go if there is two of you, or indeed a small group. Child-friendly too from what I could see. Service friendly and efficient. The Chateaubriand was excellent in particular."

  • "Birthday lunch at The Wolseley was delicious! I had the French Onion soup to start followed by the Chateaubriand for main, then had the cheeseboard - everything was fabulous and tasty! I also got a birthday plate of Macaroons which were so delicious. The atmosphere was good, although it is very business suity at lunch."

  • "A big fuss over my booking which was confirmed the previous day went to bar wasn't offed the wine list so asked for 2glasses of wine pino grico was given the wine with no receipt I was charged 25 pounds asked for receipt and saw that I was given the most expensive wine on the list plus 2 pounds service charge. The staff were disorganised food just ok and then our bottle of wine in the bucket went missing was given to someone else ,the French waiter was the best friendly and efficient ,spoke with manager re bar she said sorry but that was it .its was my second time there but won't be back ,all in all poor for the money will be going to Bereners. From now on"

  • "I booked the Wolseley having never been before, to surprise my mum for her birthday as she loves the restaurant! I have to say the service was impeccable, they looked after us and were so friendly, even gave my mum a takeaway box of macaroons as we have to leave quick to make it in time for the theatre! The food was fantastic and the atmosphere is great! I cant wait to go back! fantastic evening! fantastic staff! they cant do enough to help!"

  • "Booked a table for lunch, but table was ready 20 minutes late. Had to wait in an overcrowded bar. Waiters were friendly and serviceminded, but the food was just average. Good vibe in the restaurant. Ok experience, but not more than that."

  • "As before, dinning here is an experience. The staff are polite and always ready to hand. They don't spare any expenses on the quality of the food. Very enjoyable experience."

  • "I had been looking foward to breakfast at the Wolsey for months and it didn't disappoint. Such a fantasic selection of food that it made it hard to choose. Will have to go back to try the things that I didn't manage! Great quality food, excellent service and wonderful building."

  • "We had brunch at the Wolseley and it was very lively. A beautiful room with great atmosphere. Lots of choices on the menu. Food was good and the service was very attentive. A visit comes highly recommended."

  • "Heavy food, waiters who rush you through the meal because they are concerned with the next booking (we didn't even get dessert and we were there for 1 hr 15 mins), a long queue at the entrance while they sorted through bookings and escorted people to tables, the restaurant smelled damp and like a wet kitchen. It has the potential to be a truly amazing experience but we left feeling too heavy, rushed and unappreciated."

  • "despite being noisy and busy (at breakfast) we could hear one another perfectly. Service was good even though both of us ordered 'off menu'"

  • "Was made very happy by afternoon tea at the Wolseley. It would be a great place to take a visitor to London, right in the heart of the West End, but was perfect with mum and sister for a birthday. Tea and cakes good, and flavours of sandwiches also pleasing. The atmosphere is lovely, buzzy and the right degree of formality. The sandwiches were slightly dry, suggesting they had not been freshly made (an hour or more ago?)"

  • "After living in London for 15 years and walking past The Wolsely many, many times I eventually took a morning off and celebrated a birthday with a friend. Overall - it was rather disappointing. The tables are pushed very close together, no tablecloths, and frankly not a great range available for breakfast. Not nearly as good as Colbert on Sloane Sq or the Delaunay on the Aldwych"
    dined on 09/12/2013
  • "As per usual the Wolseley was perfection. The service was attentive even though it was still packed out at 11pm. Great choice of food from a salt beef sandwich to an elaborate 3 course meal. It has style and ambience. Rib eye steak was juicy, tender and perfectly cooked accompanied by thin crispy chips and dressed lettuce. My partner opted for 2 starters of chicken soup and chopped liver - all better than mamma made! Will keep returning."

  • "We ate at The Wolseley our first night in London, having enjoyed it last year, and once again had a lovely dinner. The food was beautifully prepared and delicious, the ambience relaxed, and the service excellent and friendly. We are eager to return."

  • "I love breakfast at the Wolseley. The atmosphere is typical brasserie - brisk and lively. The food is excellent and even if it's a bit expensive, it's worth every penny."

  • "I think the title sums it up. Amazing again. Staff great hands off but there when you need. Amazing food, interior space brilliant, has a nice ambience as it is a large space and really feels comfortable"

  • "We really enjoyed our meal. Food and service were excellent as always. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "My husband and I took the Lobster Plateau de fruits de mer (£45 pp), the seafood was nice however the mayonnaise was blend and aioli would have been nice to have. Eating seafood would have requested a hand wash bowl on the table, which wasn't available. Furthermore once back at home both my husband and I had to rush to the toilets, therefore the freshness of the seafood might be questionable...?"

  • "Very average meal and service. The setting and decor is very nice though. Extremely expensive for what it is. Doubt I would return or recommend to friends."
    dined on 30/01/2014
  • "The decor and ambiance alone are worth a visit to the Wolseley. The food is safe as in traditional comfort fare, perfectly executed but don't expect inventive. This time I took my sisters for tea and whilst the sandwiches were fresh and yummy, the cakes were a bit drab. Great service though, with endless top ups for 3 greedy sisters!"
