The Westwood Restaurant, Beverley Ratings and Reviews
First time at The Westwood
Had heard a lot of positive things about The Westwood and was not disappointed. Excellent service and excellent food in lovely surroundings. As a vegetarian, I was delighted there was a separate veggie menu.
Best restaurant in Beverley by far.
This restaurant goes from strength to strength. The food is exquisite and the service excels where other comparable restaurants don't quite meet the Westwoodstandard.Enjoy!
After many meals at Westwood since it opened my most recent meal continued the high standard and quality every visit has attained
Amazing meal once again
Absolutely gorgeous food, excellent service, best place to eat in this area. Never disappointed
Consistently excellent, food & service
Never had a bad experience here. Food always amazing & service great without being pretentious. We had the crab starter & duck salad both absolutely delicious. Mains of sea bream on risotto - yum, best seafood risotto I have had. Also venison, not my choice but was enjoyed. Being picky the pannacotta was slightly overset. Its not the cheapest place in the area but its worth every penny.
Fabulous Sunday Lunch
I went for Sunday lunch to celebrate my husbands birthday and son's 9th birthday - lovely food, very happy that they would serve my son with rare roast beef! Staff were friendly and helpful, service was great, enough time in between courses, and great wine list. Will certainly be going back
A very enjoyable Sunday lunch
To the Westwood for Sunday lunch after a Remembrance Service as we had not dined there for some time. We were early for our booking but that presented no problem for the helpful staff who showed us to our table. The menu had its usual range of choices but the beef won out. It was exceptional as was the texture and taste that can only really be achieved from a large joint; accompanying vegetables were nicely al dente. Prior to the beef we had Pumpkin soup, delicious; the Westwood chefs really know how to make an excellent soup and the presentation is simple but pleasing to the eye. There is a good selection of desserts making choice difficult; the Butterscotch Pot de creme was delicious. The staff are attentive but unobtrusive and exemplify the Westwood high standards across the dining experience. We shall return
had a lovely meal on saturday the food was lovely we had steak had to bring some home as we was full the staff are lovely canrt do another for you they derzerve the service charge they put on the bill will be back if we can get in because it is allways full thank you
Not as good
I have contacted the restaurant direct and aired my views My opinion not as good as the past 10 previous meals I have had there
The lunch was, as ever, superb in every respect. The quality of the food and its preparation were impeccable.
An enjoyable meal
Set menu was good value and excellent quality of food. Service could not be faulted . The restaurant was busy as usual
What a great place! Enjoyed everything ... fantastic food and service. Will definitely be booking again.
Went to the Westwood on a quiet Tuesday night with my wife. Very friendly greeting and then shown to our table. The decor and ambience in the restaurant is lovely and really relaxed and the serving staff are great. Friendly and attentive without being overbearing. There is a bar upstairs if you want some pre meal drinks but (as I was starving) we went straight into the restaurant. We ordered the tuna tartare and duck salad to start and they were spot on. Lovely presentation and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. For main I had the venison and my wife had a rib eye steak. Both were superb and perfectly cooked. Only criticism would be that you need to order potatoes, chips, veg dishes seperately and although this seems to be more common nowadays, it does take the costs of the main course (venison) to the best part of £30. There's a good few fish dishes on the menu and the daily special was hake My cheeseboard to finish was immense. Lovely caramelised fig to go with it as well Overall, with a couple of glasses of red, the meal came to £100 and while it's not somewhere you visit every day, as a special occasion you can't do much better for locally sourced, perfectly cooked and very well presented dishes
We are regulars at the Westwood and it never disappoints . The set menu is exceptional value. Saturday we all had duck salad washed down with a bottle of Gavi - a delicious lunch
First impressions of the Westwood are very good, but we left with a completely different one. We ordered tuna tartar and pate to start off with and both were excellent and the short rib as a main course was very good. However we felt like every last penny had been squeezed out of us! Most restaurants of this standard would serve home made bread before your starter as part of the meal, but no the Westwood charges. You also have to pay extra for the vegetables for your main course and worse still you don't even get a complimentary chocolate with your coffee, if you want one you pay extra! The prices are on the steep side already so it really didn't feel like good value. If it were my restaurant I'd add these few little touches which I believe make the difference from somebody not going back at all to maybe going 3 times a year. Let's face it, there are some very good places to eat now that do go the extra mile, and those are the ones that are going to have regular satisfied customers. My other comment would be, if the Westwood is charging top prices why do your staff dress in jeans? It doesn't seem to be in keeping with the smart ambiance. The staff were very polite and attentive. So even though the food was nice, I wouldn't recommend the Westwood are there are better restaurants around that are much better value for the same quality of food.
We have visited the Westwood on numerous occasions and always have a great meal. The service and choice are always excellent and visited twice this week. They seem to use local suppliers and food that is in season and the menu suits most people's tastes.it has a great atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and efficient.
We are regulars at the Westwood and alwa...
We are regulars at the Westwood and always enjoy great food and service
Lovely for lunch
Three of us came for lunch on a Saturday and were not disappointed. The welcome was warm and the staff delightful. Our food was both unusual and very tasty and the surroundings most comfortable. For this experience it was very good value for money. One comment; had we known from the website that there was parking, we wouldn't have parked in the town centre and walked there!
matts birthday night out
Having arrived early we went and sat in the bar upstairs the staff where very helpful and assertive, when we where shown to our table we was very impressed we loved it. It was my sons birthday he said he loved everything about it , the lamb was just so nice. we all enjoyed it and would recomend it and hopefully will return in the future.
Had the set 3 course evening menu, delicious as always. Choice isn't huge but doesn't need to be. Service excellent, staff really know what they are doing and you are made to feel very welcome - even the chefs say hello from the kitchen.
Fabulous Sunday Lunch, also loved the Magician very clever young man
As always the Westwood never fails to please.Excellent food, service, ambience.
I cannot be happier. Eating out in our family is a challenge - two vegans, one dairy free, one gluten free and two can eat anything. We appreciate that you went to the trouble of preparing in advance a choice of dishes for everyone in our group and we were able to relax, enjoy the food and the family celebration. The waiters/waitresses were wonderful. Thank you
Dinner at the Westwood
I had wanted to try the restaurant because of the beautiful building and recommendations from friends. It was as good as I had been led to believe. The beef cheeks were sublime and the fish cooked really well. However, the choice of desert was limited. We ended up choosing pudding from the a la cartel menu, rather than carrying on with the set menu. The staff were knowledgeable and very helpful when advising on wine
Our favourite East Yorkshire eatery
Our Sunday Brunch was outstanding, my wife said her venison was one of the best meals she had ever tasted.
Excellent as always
It's a combination of the lovely food, the attentive and friendly staff added with super surroundings which makes this restaurant my favourite. I will certainly be back.
Great food, great service, poor tea.
Loved the restaurant, although we were earlier, so maybe lacking in ambience early doors. Dinner was very tasty and the chefs had no problem with special dietary requirements. I even got 3 choices of starter main and dessert on my own menu! Unfortunately I then ordered a pot of tea which was tasteless although presented beautifully. Will not make the same mistake again! All in all a lovely venue and good food.
We had a fantastic lunch with drinks for less than £50 for two. The food was very good and the service excellent
One of the best restaurants in Yorkshire
The Westwood is remarkably consistent in delivering excellent quality cuisine with superb service. The attitude of the staff is great and the food is wonderful.
Looked forward to this for my wife's 30th and came away disappointed and a hefty credit card bill to boot. Went off the set menu which I thought was pretty good value initially. Only to find out the mains came with no sides, and at no point were we offered additional veg. I wouldn't have minded but the extra sides were expensive and the beef cheek was cooked beautifully but there just wasn't enough of it!
Fantastic as always.
I went back to the Westwood with some friends for an evening meal recently. Some were local who'd been before and knew what to expect, but a couple were from down south and had never been before. We had a fantastic time, the food was amazing as it always is and my friends were very impressed! Just a perfect place to go for a sociable evening to enjoy good food and wine. Thanks again, and we'll see you again soon.
Beautiful fish but sauce too rich for the dish.
Love the restaurant and everything in it! I had halibut this time and tend to always choose fish over meat. The fish was lovely, However this time the sauce that accompanied the fish seemed to overpower the meal. It. Smelt very much like beef stock although I'm sure it wasn't! And was very rich. My partner had the steak, and said it was very good, but again the sauce was very rich. Everything else was great and will be booking in again soon.
5 star food and service.
By far the best restaurant in beverley, great food and lovely staff as always!
The quality of the cooking here is quite superb. That, allied to a constantly refreshed menu and specials, and very nice people make it as interesting a place to dine as you will find in this region. We've been back . . . and back . . . and back!
Great Food as always.
The Westwood never fails to impress from the food to the exquisite wine and great service.
The staff were brilliant. The food was delicious and it was a wonderful evening out.
ideal business lunch venue
The Westwood is a perfect venue for a business lunch. Appropriate menus, excellent food, a business like pace to the service and nice environment for a chat.
Consistent as Ever
Never fails to delight. Always feels like a special event. Just love the Westwood!
quality food....excellent service...couldnt fault it and will definitely be returning.
Once again The Westwood lived up to expectation!
We're waiting to be disappointed, but every time we visit The Westwood, the service is excellent, and the food exemplary! We were fortunate enough to arrive just as a table had been vacated outside on the terrace, and dining outside was lovely! I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be on a warm summer's night! Keep up the good work!
