The West HouseA Very Special NightWe visited the West House on Saturday evening as we were staying overnight at Leeds Castle, 25 minutes away. We had the tasting menu as it came recommended and were both absolutely delighted with it. Each course was exceptional, my highlight was the duck breast in lapsang duck tea but we both loved the crunchie to finish. The wines were a good match to each course, the service was exceptional and we will certainly return. The restaurant is spotlessly clean. The welcome from the staff is warm but not overpowering. Thought had been given to our seating position, we were only two on a table usually set for four diners, but we were positioned so that we could speak to each other comfortably and also see the rest of the restaurant. The food was excellent, I cannot fault anything we ordered. The food was excellent and of a really high quality and the service was personal and attentive. We had a wonderful meal. My herring starter included a smooth and creamy veloute, while the foie gras was the best we had ever tasted. The sea bass was also very good indeed. Everything from the food to the service were perfect. The Waiter was polite and knowledgeable about everything we asked. We were not rushed at all through courses and spent 3 hours relaxing and enjoying all of the four courses we had. The wine list is extensive as is the menu. If you, like I did, looked at the sample menus on The West House website and thought there was not a great deal of choice, don't be put off as this is just one menu! The full menu is also available at lunch time and everything we ate was delicious. Well priced for the standard of culinary excellence. The sausage roll starter was genius. It retained the ethos of a sausage roll but it had a quality and excellence about it that was almost quirky. The pigeon starter had an array of textures and tastes that blended well. The food is accompanied by beautiful bread and small cheese biscuits between starter and main which were absolutely fantastic! The food was that what befits a restaurant with a Michelin star, Pickled carrot and Scallop, Pigeon and beetroot with Barley and Deserts that were simply divine! The 'Mojito' desert a real highlight of the menu.

Unbelievable, excellent, scrumptious.Taster menu/wines,took the hassle out of deciding for us had food we probably would not have selected on a normal menu but loved and enjoyed it all the same.The wines selected were spot on and made a difference to the whole taste of the individual dishes.Atmosphere is wonderful with a really relaxed feel to it, not rushed at all. The menu was a little strange at first sight (Irish Coffee for a starter, which was actually butternut squash soup) but the emphasis is on quality and flavour served in a delightful country cottage.
