A word from The Swan West Malling
For decadent dining this super-slick restaurant on Swan Street is set inside a refurbished 15th century coaching inn, and its chic interior and the kitchen's critically-acclaimed modern British menu have already earned two AA rosettes and a Michelin listing. The Swan has already gained a loyal following with local gourmands, and foodies from further afield go gaga for the Philippe Starck furniture, chunky oak and zinc tables - and dishes such as the cheese-baked figs in a fennel and hazelnut dressing and the British seafood platter. The Swan has an excellent boutique wine list, and is a perfect spot for alfresco lunches, discreet business dining and romantic tables for two.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I had lunch at The Swan for a special occasion (40th birthday and family going away celebrations) with my family. The food was excellent, great atmosphere and the service was excellent. We couldn't have asked for more."

  • "Had lunch her on Saturday - admittedly a beautiful sunny day so most people had a smile on their face !! Food was delicious - rabbit terrine to start and then skate wing which was the best I've had for a long time - tried Chapel Down fizz which was as good if not better than most champagnes - we had a lovely lunch which was topped off by efficient and friendly service - loved it !"

  • "The restaurant itself is excellent. What lets this very good estbalishment down is the fact that people are allowed to attend to just drink in the bar. As a consequence, the bar is full of individuals who are excessively drunk, often sad middle aged people attempting to relive their youth whilst being the most loud and arrogant bar-goers I have had the misfortune of seeing on a Saturday evening. People being held up by their friends as they leave the restaurant has to be the most unsophisticated and grim scene and this happens with great regularity usually due to the drinking culture at the bar. The restaurant, food, and wine list is excellent though! Just bypass the morons propping up the bar on a Saturday and Friday evening"

  • "We visited The Swan for an evening get-together with some friends on a friday evening. As always, the atmosphere was vibrant and the staff very friendly. I really enjoyed my fillet steak and moules starter. The vegetarian option was limited to one choice that was served tepid, returned and subsequently eaten although bland. It was definitely not value for money. The Swan is always a treat to visit - there are understandable waiting times between courses so make sure you go with good friends!"

  • "A relaxed eatery with fantastic food, good for business or pleasure."

  • "Great venue, relaxing atmosphere, very good food and service. What more could you ask from a restaurant."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "have been for brunch and evening dinner. both are great and the food is of very high standard. Brunch is great value for money and the cocktail menu is great!"
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "not sure why this place lackes atmosphere but it does. we were cramped in a tight corner of the restaurant on a not very busy evening. staff too pushy with wine sales and almost appeared to be stand offish when told no again. not sure really the service deserves a 12.5% service charge added to bill. food nice enough but Ive had better here before."
    dined on 17/03/2014
  • "We went for dinner on a Saturday evening, meal booked for 9.30, so very very busy, had to wait ages to get a drink at the bar, was told on a few occasions that our table would be ready in 5 mins after 9.30 but was more like 30 mins later, service was very good food really good....have to say the best oysters I've had for ages , very loud but was a Saturday night, would go again."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "Generally a favourable experience. Ambience good, menu fine as was the wine list. Service could have been a little more attentive."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "Have dined at the Swam on numerous occasions and this visit was good if not better than previously. The ambience was very welcoming and the food was good. It isn't fine dining but they don't profess to be so. I would definitely recommend a visit."

  • "I hate to have to give such a poor review for this once relished establishment. My wife and I always celebrate special occasions at The Swan and this is the first time I have been utterly disappointed. I had Braised Mallard and it was so greasy and sinewy it was impossible to eat. Shame, hoping its just a one off but as it was our anniversary it spoilt our night. Like I say I'm sorry to have to be so negative but that's how it was."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "We have dined here a couple of times before and felt this time was a bit rushed as if they wanted to turn the table as quick as possible and I suppose the £60 per head was their motivation, I feel the food was well prepared and presented but did not represent good value for money. Which is a shame when a decent village restaurant tries to cash in on its customers special occasions."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "Love this place! The food never disappoints. Nor does the service. Nor does the ambience. Weekend lunches or evening meals, they're always outstanding. Just a shame that nearby parking spaces are scarce."
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "I dined here with a friend and the food was exceptional. The salmon starter was the best salmon that I have ever eaten and the cod main was of a similar quality. We were the last to leave the restaurant at 1.30am in the morning but the staff didn't seem to mind. I'd definitely eat here again."
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "A really great experience that I am sharing with everyone. Cannot wait to go back in the Summer and enjoy the very beautiful contemporary garden. Really lovely food, well cooked and beautifully presented. I will go again and again!"
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "Wonderful place to eat, lovely setting, friendly and helpful staff. Only thing I would mention is it could do with a few more veggie options on the menu, otherwise 5 stars!"
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "Mediocre food and haphazard service. Would not survive in London. Cheese board consisted of unnamed and unremarkable cheddar, brie and Stilton. So so bland"
    dined on 26/01/2014
  • "We went to the Swan to celebrate our daughter's birthday. The food was amazing! Our only negative is that the wine is a tad pricey, but that is probably our only (tiny) criticism. The service was great, couldn't fault the staff, very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Also, apart from opening a couple of presents and cards at the table, we hadn't mentioned that it was our daughter's birthday, but when her dessert arrived it was served on a plate decorated with a Happy birthday in icing, just these little touches make an occasion special, especially as it was a busy evening in the restaurant! Looking forward to our next visit."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "Went to the Swan with several of my friends to celebrate my birthday. We began with pre dinner cocktails, then enjoyed a lovely 3 course meal with wine, and more cocktails! A very enjoyable evening. Great ambience, great company and great food."
    dined on 21/12/2013
  • "Having dined here many times before we were rather disappointed by the Inattentive service this time round. The food as ever was fantastic and of superb quality, which was just as well considering the whopping bill plus 12.5% service charge added. The prosecco ordered to accompany the meal was room temperature and our side orders were tiny, half filled when compared to those served to others dining either side us The restaurant was the busiest I have ever seen it and as a result was noisy to an almost unbearable level. My biggest complaint would be how we were virtually ignored after the serving of the main course - I would have thought that a bill of over £300 would generate a little more interest from the staff."
    dined on 18/01/2014
  • "My low score for ambience is due to the fact we had to dine rather early in the evening due to my late booking and the restaurants popularity, as a result the restaurant was empty but the service was pleasant and the food good if not greatl. Overall I would recommend The Swan to anyone looking for a venue for a special occasion. My only criticism would be that some of the staff looked a little too casually dressed, especially in light of the fact diners are encouraged to dress smart casual."

  • "Excellent ambiance. Lovely food. Probably the best steak I have ever had. Good vegetarian options"
    dined on 07/01/2014
  • "We went for lunch to celebrate my daughter's birthday. While the food was very good the waitress who serviced us was very abrupt in her mannerism, was in to much of a hurry to get our order. We then had to wait a long time between courses. When I asked her where our main course was, her reply was because one of our party had changed his mind on his main course ( this was done when orders were still being taken) we would have to wait our turn. I just felt she was very rude. I would like to add that when ordering desserts & coffees we were given a different waitress and we enjoyed the rest of the meal. I don't think we will be returning anytime soon."

  • "Great food, great service! Would recommend. Will be returning. Lots of meat options and everyone enjoyed their selection."

  • "We have been to the swan many times and without doubt it is consistently good. The service, setting and food always Make it a memorable visit. We have started to take our 4 year old daughter and she is always made to feel special ."

  • "Good menu for breakfast and very reasonably priced. Consequently very busy and noisy, probably best to go when children are back at school if you want to be able to hear your friends! Staff were very friendly and helpful even when asked for something off the menu."

  • "We had a very enjoyable lunch at The Swan. The place was full but the service was very good and the food was delicious. The set menu is good value."

  • "Excellent t food always had the fish pie fantastic!!!"
    dined on 05/12/2013
  • "The service was not as good and up to their usual standard. I kept having to ask the waitress for drinks wine list etc. Having a new restaurant opened a couple of doors away I feel they now may not be safe in west malling and may have to up their game a little"
    dined on 04/12/2013
  • "Love the Swan! This is one of our favourite restaurants and we regularly dine here and the last two times we have fine they had their delicious Beef Wellington as a special, but we never have it as they always run out and it was only 8:30pm! Very disappointed as think the chef she make enough for the covers that evening but never does!! Think next time we visit will try and pre- order it! Service was excellent!! Our waitress Amy was very attentive and very friendly! Best service we have received there! Recommend the swan as we do love it there!"

  • "Came across the Swan and read the reviews (some good some not so) but booked a table for 5pm. Staff were quick and attentive but not overpowering. Drinks and food came at good intervals, no lengthy delays. Ambience was good, it had a full house and a good mix of age groups. Food was very good, didn't leave anything on the plate, although this may have been due to portion size which could have been a bit bigger. Downside is the price at £80 for two. For a Sunday Lunch it makes you stop and think for a bit. Have been to many other establishments with similar style and quality and have paid less (£60-70). Would we go again......Yes, but after we have saved a bit of extra cash, and had a small snack before we head out."

  • "This restaurant has a very good atmosphere with friendly helpful staff and an excellent menu for meat eaters. We were greeted on arrival and made to feel welcome. My wife, a lifelong vegetarian was disappointed with the limited main course option of mushroom risotto. The meal itself was 'lovely' but she would have appreciated an expanded menu choice. The cost of the meal for 4 with some drinks and gratuity was £140."
    dined on 08/11/2013
  • "We booked for my Dad's 60th birthday meal. We were greeted in a professional but friendly way and seated immediately. Staff made a point of addressing our toddler personally about her meal and drinks which further provided a respectful and friendly atmosphere. The food was beautiful - we frequently dine in Michelin Star restaurants in London and can confirm that The Swan is definitely competition. The only point for consideration I can find is the children's meal. My 2 yearold chose the Macaroni Cheese which was of course a small portion appropriate for a child. However, it was £10! This shocked me as I couldn't see how this amount can be charged for such a small and basic dish. That aside, it was a wonderful experience."
    dined on 09/11/2013
  • "Having visited The Swan over 20 times and having returned for the good overall experience, we were highly disappointed at our lunch experience. The waitress took our order and then promptly forgot our drinks, 50 minutes later I reminded a waitress, who then returned to our table to ask again what our drinks order was. We even had to ask for a glass of water, clearly they were rushed off their feet and the staff couldn't cope with lunch time rush hour. We were served by 4 different people so there was no consistency at all. When we had a mishap on our table, it wasn't even cleaned up properly and we had to whip t wet wipes out of our handbags to clear up the sticky mess. Then they had the cheek to add a service charge, which we removed."

  • "Excellent Food, good value, nice touches like the water - with cucumber and lemon. Friendly Service. Very nice restaurant. Would highly recommend it."

  • "Went for my other halfs birthday which I mentioned when booking, without promt at the end of the meal the staff bought out a slice of choc torte with a lite candle-what great service. Staff were genuinely friendly and please to offer a good service. The food was well laid out a really tasty indeed. We would both return anytime."
