The Swan at The GlobeExcellent! Lovely views overExcellent! Lovely views over River Thames. Handy for The Globe. Food very good. Would not hesitate to recommend.15/06/2013 00:00:00Swan pre theatreMeal was great- and it ran like clockwork. Next door to the Globe theatre makes it a great choice for pre performance evening14/06/2013 00:00:00Anniversary dinnerMy wife and I dine out a lot, and we were really happy that we booked Swan at the Globe for our Anniversary dinner. The menu was concise and had everything you could want on it (steak, pork, chicken, a special of the day and some veggie options. The wine menu was good and was quite diverse. The service was excellent - attentive enough without being overbearing. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone for a special occasion or a first date if you really want to impress.10/06/2013 00:00:00Sunday lunchAn excellent lunch marred by mis-management. When booking I asked to be seated at a particular table. I was shown into the restaurant and the table agreed. Why then on the day were we made to wait 30 minutes for the table to be prepared and then not seated where agreed? I was told curtly that particular tables could not be reserved! What rubbish! Of course I made little fuss so as not to spoil the family occasion. (We were seated squeezed between other tables instead of on the plush perimeter sofas.)
Food excellent.
FoH management rubbish.09/06/2013 00:00:00Pre-TempestMy guests and I enjoyed the view while having an enjoyable meal.08/06/2013 00:00:00Overall happyHaving a pre theatre meal is a great idea as they know you need to be in and out in time for the performance. The only criticism I would have is that we felt very rushed to get in and out, and had to ask for a break between our main and dessert. We hadn't really finished our starter and the main courses were standing behind us.
The restaurant itself was beautiful, and the main course and desserts were great.08/06/2013 00:00:00A midsummer's right dreamWe loved it. (4 of us) Stepped off the ferry right to our table in the restaurant with glorious views of the Thames. Food was excellent, service great and quick. We were asked whether we were going to the theatre. Service was fitted around our needs. No fuss. Pork belly was to die for. Not cheap but a lovely meal which set us up for the afternoon performance in the Globe. We'd certainly go back again.08/06/2013 00:00:00Post theatre meal10.30 booking after seeing the "Dream" (Thursday evening). Walked straight out, and upstairs to the restaurant - ordering food in 5 mins. Seated at a window table, facing the riverscape, looking over to St Pauls - lovely ! Post-theatre menu was two mains and desserts.I had cod and my wife belly pork. Both were delicious. For dessert, we had yoghourt/fruit panna cotta. Not as good as the main but still perfectly acceptable.
Washed down with a bottle of Chardonnay that was much better than I feared.
Bill, inclusive of service, came to ca. £75. Not cheap but worth it given the location, view and convenience. Second time at the Swan - better experience than the pre-theatre meal which was, not surprisingly, busier and a bit more frantic.06/06/2013 00:00:00A dream come true!Last week my husband and I had dinner at the Swan at the Globe before seeing a play at the theater. Both of these events that evening were a dream come true for me! We came there from Connecticut. We had a lovely table by the window, overlooking the Thames River and St. Paul's Cathedral. What a wonderful view! The food was amazing, and we just loved everything about our experience there!06/06/2013 00:00:00A Birthday TreatMy wife booked A Midsummer Nights Dream followed by dinner at The Swan.
The food and surroundings were excellent and it rounded off the perfect day.04/06/2013 00:00:00What a service!Food was great, it was my girlfirend's birthday and they arranged it all (candle etc...), excellent views, particularly at night. Service was friendly and attentive. Lived up to and beyond expectation.03/06/2013 00:00:00Lovely Setting, Great FoodWe ate at the Swan on a Saturday night. It was much quieter than I expected for the location. We had a nice table with a view of the Thames. The food isn't cheap, but its great for a special occasion. I had chicken and my better half had lamb, both well cooked and tasty. This may be my Northern roots, but I don't like having to pay extra for veggies. They were charging an extra £3 for carrots or broccoli. This should be included - they hardly cost a lot to buy!
I had a lovely lemon posset for pud, and we have a nice bottle of wine - the total cost was around £70. The service was good and attentive. There's a pre-theatre menu for £25 if you are early too.01/06/2013 00:00:00Great place to eat theatre or notThe generous 'sharing' first course on the pre/post menu was enjoyed by all. Recommend the pork and the roast cod and chicken dishes were also very good. Good choice of deserts completed a satisfying meal. The staff are very pleasant and service efficient. In fact as we were post theatre and not in a hurry, it was a bit too efficient! Overall worth a visit.30/05/2013 00:00:00This was our first visit toThis was our first visit to the Swan at he Globe and was chosen for convenience .We were meeting two American friends who had just arrived and were staying at a nearby hotel. The Globe provided a useful meeting place and the Swan appeared to be at the right level .We were very pleased with the efficiency and friendliness of the Swan ,The food content and choice of wine were first class and our visitors have expressed their thanks to all concerned.30/05/2013 00:00:00The swan is a lovely place. The swan is a lovely place. Great location - good food and buzzing pre- theatre
The service is my only complaint - not because the people aren't nice, they are - very nice but because it all seemed a bit confused. My 6pm table wasn't "ready" at 555 so I sat at the bar til 615 and then they all looked surprised when I asked if it was - which it was but noone thought to tell me. Then it seems that only certain staff can take drinks orders, others can do food , others can answer questions on the food - when its pre theatre there's not much time for that!!!
But in all I think it's a great place29/05/2013 00:00:00Perfect pre-theatre formulaBefore an evening performance at Shakespeare's Globe this is just perfect. The pre-theatre formula is to choose main course and pudding - starters just arrive at the table for sharing. This keeps waiting time to a minimum - important if you are worried about getting to the performance on time - and still gives a choice. Food was just right, light and full of flavour, strong on fresh vegetables, and fairly small portions, so that even after 3 courses you don't feel as if you'll fall asleep during the play. Pudding of panna cotta, rhubarb and ginger crunch was delicious. Cheerful service, great views across the river, and the entrance to the theatre is on the premises, could not be better.for an evening at the Globe.28/05/2013 00:00:00Very nice pre-show dinnerOur family of 6 (4 children ages 9-13) dined here prior to an evening performance at the Globe. We were seated promptly upon arriving. The dining room is very nice and modern, with great views of the Thames and St. Pauls. The servers were very friendly and attentive and all of our meals were quite good, although the pre-show dinner menu is somewhat limited. The prices were a bit high, but we felt the premium ultimately was worth it for the location and view and assurance that we would get to the show on time. They have a decent children's menu that was pretty reasonably priced, which we appreciated. We really enjoyed ourselves and would recommend this restaurant to others.28/05/2013 00:00:00Highly recommendMy family and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch, Great elevated view across the embankment. Good service and food. Would definitely revisit.26/05/2013 00:00:00ExcellentAn excellent pre play meal, set the atmosphere before the play, which was also awesome.
Staff were superb.
Eat here!25/05/2013 00:00:00a wonderful and enjoyablea wonderful and enjoyable evening. Beautiful view, very good food, excellent services. We are already planning our next visit.24/05/2013 00:00:00Above and beyondWe chose the Swan because of its location by the Globe. We would go back for the food, the view and the outstanding service.24/05/2013 00:00:00Great pre-theatre dinnerI pre-booked this dinner from Australia as a pre theatre experience with my wife and another friend and we had a thoroughly enjoyable dinner before seeing The Tempest. Service, food and ambiance were all great and it set the mood for a totally memorable evening.22/05/2013 00:00:00Very nice foodMy husband and I really loved the pre theatre menu proposed. Very good food, friendly staff, nice location, beautiful decoration. I was a bit disappointed that the we did not get the window table I requested at time of booking. But the overall experience was very good, we would surely come back.18/05/2013 00:00:00Pre-theatre Dinner at The SwanWe used to visit The Swan quite often, but had stopped going because the quality of the food, the price and overall experience had begun to slip. I am pleased to say that things seem to have improved a lot. The pre-theatre dinner was very good, with the selection on the menu more than adequate - the shared starter was a particularly good idea and delicious too. Overall service was good, although there were moments when it was difficult to attract the attention of the waiting staff even though there were sufficient staff working. We will be visiting again as this is such a fantastic location when visiting the theatre.17/05/2013 00:00:00The Aussies Came to DineA night at the Globe....dreams fulfilled. Shakespeare to be seen as he should be seen: and the audience replete with good food, good wine and good humour. The pre-theatre dinner set the stage for a perfect memorable evening. Faultless service, compact but adequate servings of exotic foods set the mood. The absence of kangaroo steaks on the menu was more than compensated for by the haddock fish cakes and braised fennel. A 5 star experience. And like a boomerang, we'll come back. An extensive and balanced menu that suited all three palates.17/05/2013 00:00:00Lunchtime TreatWe would not normally spend this much on lunch, but it was a day out, so... We booked online, and our booking was confirmed by the restaurant by telephone the day before. We were greeted politely and shown promptly to our table. Service was brisk but pleasant, attentive without being overpowering. We chose the set menu, which had a good range of choice for main and dessert. The shared starter was imaginative and varied, although the green bean and fennel salad and the hummous lacked seasoning. The potted salmon was delicious! Mains were well cooked, although again a little more seasoning might have improved the vegetables. Desserts both excellent. We would definitely come again, and would recommend it to others.16/05/2013 00:00:00Lovely viewsOur experience at The Swan was a lot like those described in previous reviews. We asked for a table by the window for the pre-theatre menu and we got one with wonderful views. The waiting staff were very friendly and the menu was appealing. The starters all came together to share and they were good - but our mains (salmon and chicken) arrived before we had finished and I had my eye on another radish. Anyway it was all whisked away a bit too speedily. The desserts were very pretty and tasty - the best bit by far. Neither of us wanted to spoil the experience, but revealed later that both mains could have done with a bit more cooking - maybe while I ate the last radish!16/05/2013 00:00:00Great restaurant for a date!I took my date for dinner here, and we both loved it! Really nice view of the Thames and St Pauls. Very romantic13/05/2013 00:00:00Anniversary mealWe got married at the Globe & returned on our anniversary to celebrate. Slightly biased, but beautiful location (had requested a window seat but was not allocated one so asked to move when we arrived & this was accommodated). Fantastic food, good service in an unpretentious yet prestigious setting. No special touches for our anniversary but we were happy in our own little, World and did not feel rushed or ignored. I would wholeheartedly recommend Swan @ The Globe for delicious food in an historic setting with great ambience and fantastic views.12/05/2013 00:00:00excellent mealWow! We've eaten at some very nice places and the Swan is right up there. Excellent Sunday Roast -- try the cocktails as well. Went before a show at the Globe, the perfect beginning to a wonderful evening!12/05/2013 00:00:00Beautiful LunchI have been a member of the Globe theatre for over 10 yrs. Every year I take clients to a couple of plays during the summer season. Usually we have lunch before the show at the Swan. I booked the table and I knew we were going to have a tight time because my client could not arrive before 1pm. On the day of the play, the restaurant called to make sure I was coming and asked if we were going to the show. I showed up at 12:45 just incase my client arrived early. At that point, the waiter said we could not have the 3 course meal because we did not have the time. First of all, we really do three courses and we had 45mns to eat a main. If they told me when they called about the timing, we could arrive earlier, pre ordered our meal or something.10/05/2013 00:00:00The Swan at the GlobeFantastic restaurant in a fantastic location! Bit suprised it wasn't busier on a Thursday evening but a lovely meal none the less. Worth getting a window table to enjoy the views across the Thames.09/05/2013 00:00:00Fabulous!We had tickets for a matinee at the Globe so it was a great choice in terms of location. There were 6 of us - the service was excellent and the food fabulous. You can't beat the views!08/05/2013 00:00:00Service was excellent andService was excellent and we were shown straight to our table. Starters and dessert were tasty and interesting, but I felt that my main dish of salmon, new potatoes and salad was pretty ordinary. My companion had veal chop with smoky mash and baby carrots with a bearnise sauce but the chop was quite substantial and would have benefitted from some sort of gravy to accompany it. However we did choose a very palatable wine and overall we enjoyed the experience.04/05/2013 00:00:00Great views, food and service,Great views, food and service, but not pretentious.01/05/2013 00:00:00Vue magnifique et dîner délicieuxVue magnifique et dîner délicieux avant le théâtre. Organisation impeccable, accueil sympathique et service chaleureux et efficace. We'll be back as soon as possible!30/04/2013 00:00:00Ruined by being rushedThe food was excellent, although the single, shared starter restricted the options somewhat for a vegetarian. It was all rather rushed, with the waiter even informing us, as we ate our starter, that we may be served with oiur main before we had finished the starter. Also, I don't like a se4rvice charge being imposed.27/04/2013 00:00:00Very nice meal but portionsVery nice meal but portions were not that big. 2 scallops for £11.50! Bit overpriced but setting overlooking the Thames was lovely.27/04/2013 00:00:00The Big 40It was a special night out with three of this group of six friends turning 40. What better way to kick into the next decade than with a complimentary glass of bubbly looking at a breath taking view of Saint Pauls whilst the sun went down? The atmosphere was fantastic, intimate, yet somehow buzzing. Everyone was having a great time, but tables were well spaced and it made the overall experience perfect. The food was delicious, and the service - spot on. It wasn't stuffy like many river view restaurants and I will definitely be going back. The lamb was melt in the mouth and the blueberry short crust dessert sublime, well worth a stray from usual tempting chocolate puddings. Although, a spoonful of my friend's was heavenly.27/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent in every wayWe have eaten here three times now and it has always been excellent. We have only had the pre-theatre menu, so can only comment on that. The food is excellent and very good value, the staff are delightful and highly professional, and the place itself is lovely - light and bright with great views over the river. Highly recommended. The bar downstairs is also nice, but for us rather noisy.26/04/2013 00:00:00Lovely view, good atmosphere,Lovely view, good atmosphere, bustly but relaxed. Good quality food well presented, with interesting combinations. Portions could be a little bigger, trying to 'up the income ' with use of 'sides'.25/04/2013 00:00:00A pleasant sunny eveningYou can't beat this location on the river for evry good food and outsatnding views across to St Paul's. The views really come into their own as the sun sets and the lights of the City turn on. Arrived for a 6:30 rtable booking and was restricted to ordering from the Pre-theatre dinner menu. What that lacked in choice though, was made up for by the excellence of the food itself and the the value the menu provided. Will definitely be returning23/04/2013 00:00:00Adds to the Globe experienceThis was my second time dining at the Swan before a Globe performance. I enjoy the food and the setting. We had a serving snafu this time, but the manager made it right. I will be back.23/04/2013 00:00:00Great food, great value & viewThe fixed menu was outstanding. It included delicious leak & potato soup, an array of apetizers, varied and plentiful, and a choice between 3 entrees. We picked salmon, and pork and apple. Both were delicious. We had a choice of many desserts. Take the chocolate one if you want a caffein kick, or any other one that hits your fancy. Service efficient and polite. View of the Thames river outstanding. When you take the elevator to the main level you are at the Globe Theater! What a great meal!23/04/2013 00:00:00Swan at the GlobeI went to the Swan for a Saturday lunch with my old school friends. We wanted good food and space to have a good chat and that's exactly what we got. The food was delicious, if a little short on vegitarian options. Service was attentive, but not overly so. We were given plenty of time to linger over our lunch. Perfect!20/04/2013 00:00:00Disappointing food, excellent view!Had dinner here last Saturday night. Beautiful restaurant with great views along the Thames and St Paul's. We ate beer chips with aubergine caviar, and two sirloin steaks with parsley butter, bone marrow and chips. Disappointingly the steaks were 'roasted' and lacked flavour. My boyfriend asked for blue, I asked for medium rare but they were both the same.... I'm not a big eater but I felt the portions could have been a little more generous. Great chips though...
I enjoyed the experience, we had a lovely evening but the food could have been much better. I'd go back for drinks downstairs but I don't think I'd chose to eat there again based on our experience.20/04/2013 00:00:00Special birthday treatTook my partner to Swan at the Globe for a special birthday celebration - had asked for good view and sure enough we had a brilliant round table in a bay area overlooking river, great views of London.
Waiter was excellent, friendly and efficient without being intrusive - food was tasty and filling with delicious wines. A little pricy (although as Globe members we got discount) but for London a most amazing venue for that special occasion. Highly recommended.19/04/2013 00:00:00Very goodFab food, fab service but most of all is the view - being right by the Thames and in such a vibrant area is amazing.12/04/2013 00:00:00Great food, service and ambienceWent with family on Sunday. Lovely lunch off the set menu. Delicious scallops, a good portion of salmon, lovely pink roast beef. Service was on the ball, there when you needed anything but good breaks between courses which meant it was chilled and relaxing. Good views over the Thames07/04/2013 00:00:00Super spot with fab serviceSuperb location overlooking river. Menu limited as was Sunday lunch with only 3 roasts, fish and a veggie option. Service was efficient and friendly. Food was good and reasonably priced.07/04/2013 00:00:00
