Diner Reviews
  • "having dined in many of London's better restaurants this one comes out top in every category."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "Me and a friend had the taste meny (along with the wine meny), and had reservations for a sunday evening. The food was very good, a few outstanding dishes and a few weaker ones. Overall very good, but thats the minimum to expect from a 2-star Michelin restaurant. The service was good and friendly but nothing exceptional, the staff felt a bit stressed sometimes though the restaurant was not full. A few errors where made: food was once served forgetting the wine, dessert was being served as I was on the toilet, more bread was not served even though we had more butter. This might not be big things, but I´m comparing with danish Noma (also with 2-stars) who had flawless and VERY friendly service. A bit disappointing from what I expected."

  • "The food was excellent n the service impeccable, whether from the waiters or the sommelier. It was one of the best restaurants we have tried in London."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Booked this for a birthday treat for my boyfriend and even though it was pricey for the tasting menu it was absolutely perfect! The waiters and front of house are friendly and everything is taken care of, they even switched out two meat courses to accommodate my diet and even printing a new menu with the recommended wine paring switch included. The restaurant is relaxed and ambient with a very private dining experience as the tables are not too close. The food tasted fantastic and looked beautiful, with the wine pairing complementing perfectly."

  • "For many years The Square has had the best food in London. It is always an elegant, delicious experience."
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "Very good starter but very average main and poor dessert. I expected more from a 2 star restaurant. Also not much atmosphere and bar area was terrible."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "I took my Mum here on Saturday for a pre-Mother's day feast. We opted for the taster menu with wine. The food was good, but in our view the wine was not something to write home about. They were populist wines of recent vintage. We (I) may have paid more for more interesting wines. We thought we might be a little overwhelmed by the nine courses but we need not have worried. Each course was light and extremely tasty. I would visit this restaurant again."

  • "We had a wonderful eight-course anniversary dinner at The Square. Service, food, wine and everything else was all fantastic. We've dined in a number of high-end restaurants around the world and The Square is up there with the top few. We would whole-hearted recommend an evening at The Square."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "......just about sums it up. Went for tasting menu and it was just delicious. Third time we have been there and every time it really is too quality food. The only (very minor) drawback is that the atmosphere is never as good and is quite quiet and formal. But cannot complain at all. it's one of the best."

  • "Had a excellent lunch at The Square. The Hazelnut Linguini with Morel Mushrooms is amazing. Would go back just to eat that dish alone. Such good value for the set lunch menu with the added bonus of trying taste combinations of flavours that I would never put together! Phil Howard is very good at taking a traditional dish but giving it a very modern twist."
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "I took my partner for a birthday celebration meal and we opted for the a la carte menu, three courses with matching wines chosen by the sommelier. The food was extremely tasty but not the best I have had. The wine was very well chosen and complimented the food. For the price I was expecting a taste explosion but unfortunately this was only seen with the pre-course appetisers and not the main dishes."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "Overall, did not find it good value for money and the food was mediocre. Service was slow and ambiance dull."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "We had the taster menu with wine. The food was spot on, a bit of everything that left your taste buds tingling. The wine was a good variety with the only downfall being the inclusion of a Scottish stout beer. Its not to say the stout wasn't tasty, quite the contrary and I will be sure to be drinking it again but to me a wine menu is a wine menu, not to be infiltrated with beer. The ambiance was busy and pleasant. All in all The Square lives up to its two stars and I would recommend it to anyone."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "I was impressed (again!) with the ability of this restaurant to deliver exceptional food and service without being pretentious or overbearing. Outstanding food, attentive service, excellent ambiance - this is a place to keep in mind for special occasions and important meetings."
    dined on 19/03/2014
  • "Very attentive and friendly service. We had the £37.50 two course lunch. My starter of hen egg, white asparagus, morel, pea shoot was ok - the egg was good, slightly crispy on the outside and good rich yolk. The main course of cod was just a bit bland. My partner's first course of mackerel was lacking in taste, but ox cheek ravioli was good. The quantities were a bit on the mean side."
    dined on 20/03/2014
  • "Limited set menu, but enough to choose and outstanding food/flavours and generally a very elegant food experience. Seriously good service - both for food and drinks and an exceptional wine list with enough that was affordable for our lunch. Whole experience memorable from the two delightful amuse bouche to the remarkable cheese selection with every course a highlight. Highest on my list for a return lunch and the best of 6 gourmet meals that week in London."
    dined on 18/03/2014
  • "We had the tasting menu & it was absolutely marvellous. I have an intolerance to lactose & that was catered for with no problems, although it meant changing quite a few of the courses. Admittedly it was rather expensive, but it certainly was worth it for a special occasion."
    dined on 19/03/2014
  • "We had an enjoyable lunch on the 17 th which happened to be my birthday. The staff was welcoming and pleasant , and the food was as I remembered it from previous year's. I would return there for another meal"
    dined on 17/03/2014
  • "nice restaurant, comfy atomsphere. staffs were friendly and chatty, some of them are knowledgeable. we had the 9-course tasting menu, which we enjoyed it a lot. food was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented. very tasty indeed. it's not pricy as other 2-stars restaurants. it definitely worths a tour there."
    dined on 11/03/2014
  • "A pleasant evening spent at The Square indulging in the tasting menu. Service was exceptional. There were a few of the courses however that contained some elements we were not overly fond of, but personal taste is so individual. The pickled artichoke starter not a personal favourite, but parmesan gnocchi and langoustine was one of the best dishes ever tasted. The foix gras was exceptional. Cheese and chocolate fondue course another highlight. The wine pairing was generous with portions, but we didn't always find that the wine complemented the food as well as we have experienced in previous paired tasting menu experiences. At £185/person for the paired tasting menu, value for money was therefore for us, on this occasion, somewhat debatable."

  • "Really cannot fault the meal we had at the Square. We had the set lunch on a Saturday, the restaurant was full. Service was attentive but not too formal The food was fabulous, every mouthful a delight. A really wonderful time was had, thank you to all the staff."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "Amazing food, great atmosphere and service, we went to the Square for a second time, about 5 years between visits, and once again it was sensational. The imagination and quality of the food is the best I have had anywhere, with exactly the right balance between attentiveness and formality from a service point of view"
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "I booked The Square to celebrate my husband's birthday and after seeing Phil Howard on Great British Menu and how his food was raved about by the judges and other chefs. The whole experience was outstanding. The food was not only delicious but innovative and beautifully presented. The 'extras' in the form of an extra starter, amuse bouche, palate cleanser and sweets at the end of the meal only served to make the occasion seem extra special. The wine list is so extensive you would need a week to study it properly - we found a great Shiraz which complemented our meal perfectly. The service was very friendly and professional. All in all we had a truly unforgettable evening and will definitely revisit when the next special occasion arises."

  • "Fantastic place, incredible service and really good food, of course. Ther ewas nothing I was not enjoying in this visit."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "Amazing restaurant, genuine culinary talent and has made this restaurant one of my favorite London classics."
    dined on 06/03/2014
  • "My partner and I dined at The Square for our 3rd anniversary. We chose to do the set lunch which for £37.50 per person was extremely good value. The quality of food was incredible and the service was exceptional. I would most definitely recommend The Square and will certainly be returning myself."
    dined on 04/03/2014
  • "an outstanding experience with perfect service and wonderful food in a contemporary atmosphere"
    dined on 04/03/2014
  • "Everything here is perfect. Delicious canapes to start with (who'd have thought that grey coloured squid ink tapioca crackers with taramosalata could taste so good!), gorgeous amuse bouche, and the best turbot main course I've ever eaten (the hazlenut pesto topping was scrumptious). Any meal that includes three desserts (the palate cleansing taster before the dessert, the glazed pear dessert itself, followed by coffee with petits fours) has to be good. The meal came to a little under £600 for three people because we each had a champagne cocktail to start. So it's definitely not cheap. But very memorable. Would love to go back."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Flawless food and very good service. Excellent Sommelier. We will definitely return to enjoy larger plates of our favourites from the tasting menu."
    dined on 27/02/2014
  • "Delicious food and exquisite surroundings and service."
    dined on 16/12/2013
  • "Excellent food and excellent service to try again."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "The food was excellent. Found it very pricey for the two of us. It was well above our budget. We took the A la Carte menu which should be the least but found that we were well priced the same as the Tasting Menu. The service was excellent."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "food was okay, service was okay but not exceptionally good. compared to other restaurants in that area, it is not very good one."
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "The restaurant was very busy, even though it was a Tuesday. Nice crowd, fast service, thought through dinner experience. A bit on an expensive side, provided that we had no alcohol, but not the food was great."
    dined on 11/02/2014
  • "After seeing Phil Howard on tv etc we decided to give The Square a go during our weekend stay in London. The whole experience didn't disappoint. Although its expensive and wont suit all budgets this restaurant ticked a lot of boxes for us. The service was attentative and friendly without being too overbearing like other michelin starred places we've visited. We had the tasting menu - 9 courses - and all courses were of excellent quality. There is a huge wine selection that would cater for all tastes. The sommelier was very keen to provide any further info on the wines for our chosen menu. All in all i would easily recommend The Square as a great all round restaurant."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "I have eaten at this establishment several times and it had become a favourite. This evening the receptionist called me by the wrong name, our table was next to the service station & cheese trolly even though other tables were empty We ordered the tasting menu and waited 1.5 for the first 2 bites, I asked for the service to be sped up and instead it was put on hold. I do not understand how a restaurant with such quality on the plate hires staff with an inability to comprehend the language, I expect that at a sandwich bar! We complained to one of the staff members and he apologised and confirmed my suspicion that the Chef was not there that evening because there is no way that he could tolerate that service based on previous experiences."
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "From beginning to end of the evening the service was fIrst class. The taster menu was outstanding, particularly the foie gras and the soufflé at the end was to die for. We also had the taster menu wines which complemented the food well without being outstanding and it is for this reason we felt that the cost of the taster wines was not such good value at £70 per head. However the Sommelier, Dale, was excellent. Whilst we would recommend The Square to friends we felt it would be better suited to group, rather than intimate dining, as the restaurant was very busy and the tables were quite close together."
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "We had the best meal we have ever eaten at The Square. Amazing food, prepared with love, care and creativity. Every dish was as pretty as a picture and completely delicious. The atmosphere was good and the service attentive. Would certainly recommend and will certainly be returning."
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "we had great expectations for The Square, and as a business meeting, it was an important first visit. food was good of course, but portions too small, which left us with a certain negative feeling about the whole experience."
    dined on 03/02/2014
  • "EXCELLENT ALL ROUND. THE FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING. WE WENT TO OTHER MICHELIN STARRED RESTAURANTS DURING THE FEW DAYS WE WERE IN LONDON AND THIS WAS CERTAINLY THE BEST MEAL"
