  • "Me and a friend had the taste meny (along with the wine meny), and had reservations for a sunday evening. The food was very good, a few outstanding dishes and a few weaker ones. Overall very good, but thats the minimum to expect from a 2-star Michelin restaurant. The service was good and friendly but nothing exceptional, the staff felt a bit stressed sometimes though the restaurant was not full. A few errors where made: food was once served forgetting the wine, dessert was being served as I was on the toilet, more bread was not served even though we had more butter. This might not be big things, but I´m comparing with danish Noma (also with 2-stars) who had flawless and VERY friendly service. A bit disappointing from what I expected."

  • "Booked this for a birthday treat for my boyfriend and even though it was pricey for the tasting menu it was absolutely perfect! The waiters and front of house are friendly and everything is taken care of, they even switched out two meat courses to accommodate my diet and even printing a new menu with the recommended wine paring switch included. The restaurant is relaxed and ambient with a very private dining experience as the tables are not too close. The food tasted fantastic and looked beautiful, with the wine pairing complementing perfectly."

  • "I took my Mum here on Saturday for a pre-Mother's day feast. We opted for the taster menu with wine. The food was good, but in our view the wine was not something to write home about. They were populist wines of recent vintage. We (I) may have paid more for more interesting wines. We thought we might be a little overwhelmed by the nine courses but we need not have worried. Each course was light and extremely tasty. I would visit this restaurant again."

Such good value for the set lunch menu with the added bonus of trying taste combinations of flavours that I would never put together!   • "I took my partner for a birthday celebration meal and we opted for the a la carte menu, three courses with matching wines chosen by the sommelier. The food was extremely tasty but not the best I have had. The wine was very well chosen and complimented the food. For the price I was expecting a taste explosion but unfortunately this was only seen with the pre-course appetisers and not the main dishes."

  • "We had the taster menu with wine. The food was spot on, a bit of everything that left your taste buds tingling. The wine was a good variety with the only downfall being the inclusion of a Scottish stout beer. Its not to say the stout wasn't tasty, quite the contrary and I will be sure to be drinking it again but to me a wine menu is a wine menu, not to be infiltrated with beer. The ambiance was busy and pleasant. All in all The Square lives up to its two stars and I would recommend it to anyone."

My starter of hen egg, white asparagus, morel, pea shoot was ok - the egg was good, slightly crispy on the outside and good rich yolk. The main course of cod was just a bit bland. My partner's first course of mackerel was lacking in taste, but ox cheek ravioli was good. The quantities were a bit on the mean side."

  • "A pleasant evening spent at The Square indulging in the tasting menu. Service was exceptional. There were a few of the courses however that contained some elements we were not overly fond of, but personal taste is so individual. The pickled artichoke starter not a personal favourite, but parmesan gnocchi and langoustine was one of the best dishes ever tasted. The foix gras was exceptional. Cheese and chocolate fondue course another highlight. The wine pairing was generous with portions, but we didn't always find that the wine complemented the food as well as we have experienced in previous paired tasting menu experiences. At £185/person for the paired tasting menu, value for money was therefore for us, on this occasion, somewhat debatable."

  • "I booked The Square to celebrate my husband's birthday and after seeing Phil Howard on Great British Menu and how his food was raved about by the judges and other chefs. The whole experience was outstanding. The food was not only delicious but innovative and beautifully presented. The 'extras' in the form of an extra starter, amuse bouche, palate cleanser and sweets at the end of the meal only served to make the occasion seem extra special. The wine list is so extensive you would need a week to study it properly - we found a great Shiraz which complemented our meal perfectly. The service was very friendly and professional. All in all we had a truly unforgettable evening and will definitely revisit when the next special occasion arises."

Delicious canapes to start with (who'd have thought that grey coloured squid ink tapioca crackers with taramosalata could taste so good!), gorgeous amuse bouche, and the best turbot main course I've ever eaten (the hazlenut pesto topping was scrumptious). Any meal that includes three desserts (the palate cleansing taster before the dessert, the glazed pear dessert itself, followed by coffee with petits fours) has to be good. The meal came to a little under £600 for three people because we each had a champagne cocktail to start. So it's definitely not cheap. But very memorable. Would love to go back."

  • "After seeing Phil Howard on tv etc we decided to give The Square a go during our weekend stay in London. The whole experience didn't disappoint. Although its expensive and wont suit all budgets this restaurant ticked a lot of boxes for us. The service was attentative and friendly without being too overbearing like other michelin starred places we've visited. We had the tasting menu - 9 courses - and all courses were of excellent quality. There is a huge wine selection that would cater for all tastes. The sommelier was very keen to provide any further info on the wines for our chosen menu. All in all i would easily recommend The Square as a great all round restaurant."

This evening the receptionist called me by the wrong name, our table was next to the service station & cheese trolly even though other tables were empty We ordered the tasting menu and waited 1.5 for the first 2 bites, I asked for the service to be sped up and instead it was put on hold. I do not understand how a restaurant with such quality on the plate hires staff with an inability to comprehend the language, I expect that at a sandwich bar! We complained to one of the staff members and he apologised and confirmed my suspicion that the Chef was not there that evening because there is no way that he could tolerate that service based on previous experiences."

We also had the taster menu wines which complemented the food well without being outstanding and it is for this reason we felt that the cost of the taster wines was not such good value at £70 per head. However the Sommelier, Dale, was excellent. Whilst we would recommend The Square to friends we felt it would be better suited to group, rather than intimate dining, as the restaurant was very busy and the tables were quite close together."
