A word from The Savoy, Thames Foyer
The Thames Foyer is the heart of The Savoy hotel and the perfect venue for light, informal dining. Its reinstated glass cupola, based on a guest's drawing, once again allows natural daylight to flood in on even the darkest day. The centrepiece of the room is the magnificent new winter garden gazebo.

Guests can also indulge in Afternoon Tea in this comfortable and intimate spot accompanied by the hotel's resident pianist. Afternoon Tea at The Savoy is an enduring custom where guests can choose from a range of teas served with finger sandwiches, homemade scones with clotted cream & jam and a mouthwatering selection of cakes and pastries. The Savoy is proud to be a member of the Tea Guild and received the Award of Excellence for 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Afternoon Tea starts from £47.50.

Diner Reviews
  • "We had to wait 20 mins for our table. Not what we expected at the Savoy."
    dined on 19/04/2014
  • "What an amazing treat... Beautiful rooms, china and the quality is just excellent. "

  • "A special birthday treat for my (German) wife at the Savoy, which cannot be rivalled in Germany (or probably anywhere else in the world!) - Afternoon Tea being a particularly English experience! Having (by chance) a German waiter for the tea made it all the more amusing, but the various waitresses and waiters were all very pleasant and they each explained exactly what we were receiving before every course. Even though they had presumably done that hundreds of times before, one could tell they were well-trained and gave their best for each guest. (Perhaps the pianist could play better-known songs, rather than what seemed like finger-exercises!) All in all "a lovely afternoon" and one which we will repeat another time. Thank you very much."

  • "An experience never to be forgotten, the hotel is beautiful and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended for a special occasion, the afternoon tea is delicious."

  • "This visit was a birthday treat for a close friend, who had suggested that she might like this. There were three of ladies of a 'certain age' and we were treated royally by all the staff. The tea was great, with a choice of teas and our cups were topped up as soon as they were emptied. All told, it was a great afternoon, which we all enjoyed."

  • "We wanted to do something special for our teenage daughter - this was a surprise that she loved! The service we received lived up to all expectations, with one or two lovely gestures made by attentive, but not intrusive, staff. We would whole heartedly recommend this treat to everyone."
    dined on 09/04/2014
  • "The room was very spacious & bright. the décor was very charming. The furniture was uncomfortable. The food needed to be of bite size and a wider choice. The tea was excellent. Overall it is worth a try but I would not go back."
    dined on 09/04/2014
  • "The whole experience was outstanding. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was very special. The best afternoon tea I have ever had. Would love to go back and try lunch etc"

  • "The Savoy was the perfect venue to celebrate my Father's 70th Birthday. The entire experience was heavenly from start to finish. The staff accommodated every request - even from my eccentric uncle - and the service was exemplary. We all had a wonderful time and I only wish I could visit more often. We were not rushed at all and the food was delicious. Next time I will have to bring my children, everyone should experience style with a capital S."

  • "Four of us had Afternoon Tea at the Savoy, Thames Foyer on 6th April, partly for a catch up with friends and partly as a belated birthday treat. The service was exemplary:- very attentive, unobtrusive and friendly. The food was excellent and never ran out. Constant tea (50 blends to choose from) and coffee. The atmosphere was lovely and we were never rushed."

  • "The service is great, the food is delicious and the place itself is beautiful."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Amazing venue. You really felt like you were stepping back in time. We went for the high tea rather than the traditional. Even though i don't have a sweet tooth i was a little disappointed by the lack of sweet things! All round a very lovely experience."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "I'd booked the afternoon tea as a present for my moms 60th birthday. We had such a lovely time at the Savoy. We were looked after by extremely attentive, courteous and well mannered staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. It felt as though they were extended members of family! The atmosphere was so nice, a pianist was there for a while too. Food wise, the vegetarian sandwiches were so yummy and in interesting new flavours that I had never even thought of! The cakes were pure Indulgence at its best. Of course we decided to go the whole hog and accompanied our afternoon tea with a spot of champayne. I've been to the ritz, the Berkeley, a million different places in the midlands and this was by far my favourite"
    dined on 02/04/2014
  • "Multiple times our waiter forgot things we asked for, and she got my entire order wrong. That is simply unacceptable for a place such as this. No excuse. I had previously had good experiences at The Savoy, but with this, and their failure to try to fix it, I will never come back."
    dined on 02/04/2014
  • "Wonderful! Great experience! Atmosphere, food, everything is extra-stylish and classy!"

  • "Tea at the Savoy was something my Mum had always wanted to do and she wasn't disappointed. The service was excellent but I have had much better food elsewhere - the crumpets we were served certainly didnt look home made and are about 10 for a £1 in most supermarkets. It was expensive but then you are paying for the whole experience and the food takes second place. I ended up with a very happy Mum so it was worth every penny."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "Not as/good as the Ritz, slightly stale sandwiches, poor selection of cakes, not enough jam for the scones and not enough tea,"
    dined on 31/03/2014
  • "This was a birthday celebration. The food is delicious with a choice of finger sandwiches, plain and fruited scones with 2 types of conserve with cream, followed by a selection of miniature cakes, all of which can be replenished! There is then a choice of Signature layer cakes! There is a large selection of teas but also coffee if preferred. The surroundings of the Foyer are beautiful and the tables are not too close together. The pianist is an added pleasure. I had not pre-arranged any special birthday treat, but when I mentioned it to our waiter, my daughter was included when the waiters brought out celebratory plates . For the surroundings, quality and quantity of food plus excellent and professional service, it is worth every penny."

  • "The Savoy did not disappoint! In fact, it has proved to be our most enjoyable high tea experience in London for special occasions. The serving team is polite, knowledgeable and unintrusive. There was a plentiful supply of all courses of the high tea and all tasted fresh and delicious with a variety of interesting combinations on offer. Definitely not to be missed! We can't wait for another opportunity to come back for a repeat experience."

  • "I went to the Savoy for Afternoon Tea with a group of friends and we all commented on the "unstuffy" atmosphere created in the Tea area. We noticed that the guests were from all walks of life and very diverse which in itself is very welcoming. Trevor, our waiter, was extremely good at his job and knowledgeable about the content of all the food he served. One of my friends has a cream intolerance and he was very helpful when choosing what she could and couldn`t eat. We also felt that at no point did we feel rushed, and had it not been for the fact that we were going to the theatre we could have stayed longer without being hurried along. Please book with confidence and enjoy the experience."

  • "Having read all the great reviews I was looking forward to afternoon tea. I took my mum as a treat & the whole experience was awful. The service was slow & we struggled to get the attention of waiter as they were too busy attending to large groups. The sandwiches were stale & unappetising. The scones were lovely & the cakes were average. My mum wanted to take the cakes she couldn't eat home with her but was told by the waiter that she wasn't allowed. Considering the bill came to £106 for two people, I thought that was appalling. I don't think visiting on a Sunday was a wise decision either. We could barely hear the pianist playing as she was drowned out by the sound of screaming kids who were freely allowed to run around the restaurant."

  • "This was a treat for my parents and sister in law as they had reached birthday milestones, However the only problem we had and tainted our visit. My wife and mother have disabilities so not able to use public transport. The only option we had was to use our car. HOWEVER DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF USING THE POST CODE PROVIDED ON WEB PAGE! We did and after thinking we had got wrong directions on my Tom Tom The post code provided sends you to Oxford Street. After a very frustrating hour we asked what we thought we locals who hadn't a clue. In the end we asked a passing cabbie who gave us directions. We were booked on for 13.45 rang and informed the Hotel that we would be late. We eventually arrived at 14.50. Feeling very annoyed."

  • "We chose the venue for a birthday treat and all expectations were surpassed.Quality, attention to detail, tranquility, service.Awesome experience"

  • "We have just returned from having afternoon tea at the Savoy, the service was excellent the only down side was the finger sandwich ,we felt the fillings was very mushy and the filling was very thin.for the money we expected a higher grade of filling."
    dined on 19/03/2014
  • "Having visited the Savoy on many occasions over the years, I have always felt it to be a special place. However, I went on Saturday for Afternoon Tea with my wife and I was very disappointed in the whole experience. The addition of a bar set off to the side of the Thames Foyer has made the whole area very noisy and destroys the ambience that should accompany a good afternoon tea. The High Tea, with the exception of the Scrambled Eggs and Smoked Salmon was largely disappointing with average sandwiches and stale cake. The whole air of exclusivity we both felt has left what is / was a very special place and had the air of a chain hotel, now that it is part of the Fairmont Group. I do hope that The Savoy regains its sparkle!"
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "I took my team to the Savoy for afternoon tea to celebrate the end of a project and we were all delighted with every part of it. We received an extremely warm and professional welcome from the staff and the service was attentive without being overbearing. The afternoon tea itself was delicious and plentiful and I can definitely say they were the best scones I have ever eaten - completely fluffy. The only fault I have with the whole experience was that I can't do it every day."
    dined on 18/03/2014
  • "I treated my mum to her 80th birthday celebration - she asked me to bring her to London just to go to the Savoy for afternoon tea, I also invited a very good friend to join us. It was just brilliant. The food was paced nicely and we didn't feel rushed at all. The china cups and saucers were beautiful. The room was lovely with the huge dome ceiling giving us lots of light. We all loved the formal suits the staff wore - it was especially nice to see the ladies wearing skirts with their tailed jackets. The afternoon was just perfect - thank you."

  • "The afternoon tea experience at the savoy was simply exquisite. The hotel itself is beautiful and tastefully extravagant. The waiting staff were extremely polite and friendly, catering to our every request. They were on hand whenever you needed them, but left you be to enjoy at your own pace. We were so impressed with how sumptuous the food was and how much of it there was. We could't eat another thing all day!! This was a day to remember and we thoroughly enjoyed every second of it."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "What tops superlative? Why, the Savoy Hotel, of course. And like Mary Poppins, it's practically perfect in every way. More than that, though, glamorous and welcoming. Our waiter Daniel could not have been more attentive, the sandwiches tastier or the pastries and scones fresher or more dainty. This is not to mention the opulent surroundings, the ambience of the foyer with its relaxing piano music, or the exclusive crockery and crystal Champagne flutes. All alongside the incredible history of the hotel site from Simon de Montfort and Wat Tyler to the rich and powerful of the present day. We probably have more in common with Wat Tyler, rioting aside, but these ladies who lunch had a marvellous time. Would we recommend it? A resounding YES."
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "Fantastic experience! Warm friendly staff, great tea, wonderful scones, don't eat too many as you will spoil the next courses."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "Having tried afternoon (champagne) tea at other London venues, we firmly believe that the Savoy offers the ultimate experience. The food and champagne are superb and the selection of teas amazing. Given the splendour of the Foyer setting and the terrific service, the Savoy afternoon tea provides excellent value also. We used the Savoy tea for a special occasion and all concerned were absolutely delighted."
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "Look no further than the Savoy for a truly traditionally English afternoon tea - the whole experience was a delight!"
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "Great place to go in London if you are looking for an exceptional afternoon tea to remember. A bit expensive but absolutely worth it and would come again."
    dined on 12/02/2014
  • "We took afternoon tea after our daughter had visited St. James's Palace to received her Duke Of Edinburgh Award from the Duke himself.. As this was such an important occasion we wanted to ensure that we made the day special, and the Savoy certainly did that. The service and atmosphere was just right, and although the sandwiches weren't anything very special, the overall experience was just right and there was enough tea and cakes to feed a lot more people! It made a special morning into a special day....one to cherish for many years. Good attentive service is hard to find these days - guess you get what you pay for I suppose. Recommended."
    dined on 05/03/2014
  • "I my wife and I were on vacation in London and were looking for a place to get a traditional english afternoon tea. This place fit the bill. The tea sandwiches and the scones were amazing. The pastries and desserts were not up to par. But the ambiance and service made up for what the last two courses were lacking in. Overall we had a pleasant afternoon."
    dined on 03/03/2014
  • "Cannot fault the service, so very polite and attentive, catered for all dietary needs (Lactose and Vegetarian)"
    dined on 02/03/2014
  • "Had afternoon tea on Saturday 1st March at 3.45. Can't fault it, it was a real treat! The ambience was very special with a pianist in the background and sumptuous surroundings. Our waiter (Michael) provided first class service and the food was just delicious. Nothing was too much trouble and unlimited sandwiches, cakes (ten different varieties!) and tea were provided."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "We celebrated my husband's 40th here and took along our five year old. The food was fantastic; the staff could not have been more helpful and attentive and even brought a special selection for my daughter, without charge. The best sandwiches ever plus wonderful cake and a great ambience."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "We arrived for afternoon tea at 2.45 p.m. and left at 7.00 p.m. We were treated like royalty all the time being ushered from the American Bar to the Lounge and back again after our afternoon tea. The treatment of us was superb I even got a box of chocs free because one of the staff had a slight accident near my chair. Superb. Will be back for another treat."
