The Savoy GrillGreat Ambience and SeviceWe went for dinner for my wonderful Boyfriends birthday. Had a great evening of cocktails, fizz and lovely food. The small touches and personal service was fantastic. Everyone made you feel very welcome and surrounding was very retro with understate elegance. We will definitely be going again soon and next time might even spoil ourselves and book a room for the evening! Great Evening! ; - )15/06/2013 00:00:00I love the Savoy Grill. HaveI love the Savoy Grill. Have done for years. One of the thing's i loved the most has unfortunately started to slip away, and that is the tradition of the place. It started years ago when the desert trolley left. I know that all things must change, but I miss the performance of the Salmon Trolley, and the subsequent beauty of the sculpted salmon plate lovingly prepared at the table but a skilled waiter.
I used to love the feeling that you were dining in a room full of glorious heritage; something that you now need to head to Simpson's or Rules to experience.
Also, our waitress was not English, was hard to understand, and didnt understand us.
Food - great
House Champagne - Bland
Service - average
Loyalty - Flagging15/06/2013 00:00:00Sumptious SavoyMy friend and I had a late lunch at the Savoy on Saturday and it was lovely. The name delivers all it promises. It was excellent value for money and it is the kind of place one goes for a special meal. The food, service and décor is outstanding. My only criticism is that the toptable menu is presented to you on a piece of card and therefore all the other diners know that you are not dining from their regular menu! At a restaurant like this that can take from the experience of it being special.15/06/2013 00:00:00Lunch at the Savoy GrillThis is a great place to have lunch and enjoy the ambience of days one by. My starter was amazing, if you go try the omelette. My main course was fish, quite a large portion, and I ordered a side of jersey potatoes. Again this was very good and well presented. Finally the best course of all, the dessert, an Eton Mess, it was scrumptious. The restaurant was very noisy but I think this adds to the character of the Savoy Grill. Good food, good atmosphere, not so great service but I have addressed this with the hotel, hopefully a one off. Please try it, you won't be disappointed.14/06/2013 00:00:00Birthday mealArrived at Hotel, welcomed by a lovely receptionist and explained where toilets, shop, & restaurant was. We had a fantastic table. The waiter was charming and so helpful making great recommendations and explanations of the menu. Both my husband and myself had fantastic meals. Will defiantly be goiing back again very soon I hope.14/06/2013 00:00:00Famous but affordable.6 people, £400 bill with 3 bottles of wine. We thought considering it was such a famous historic place, the bill was very reasonable. We were expecting £700. The food was very good, it's not too posh so relaxed. The service was a bit slow to start, it took ages for our order to be taken but the restaurant was full and we seemed to be the last to arrive at 7.30pm. The waiter did apologise.
All in all, a very nice evening. Thankyou.13/06/2013 00:00:00Great ValueI took some overseas visitors for lunch at the Savoy Grill during the week. The lunch menu was varied, included several vegetarian optionsand was a very reasonable £26 for 3 courses. The food was delicious and the servers were attentive and friendly. The only negative aspect was that we were running slightly late, so I called ahead to lket them know and was told it would not bé a problem. However when we arrived the staff had marked us as a no show - so their communication between staff was not so good! Luckily they weren't too busy so we still managed to get a table.12/06/2013 00:00:00Fantastic service & friendly staff! This was our first visit to the Savoy Grill and we were very curious as to how everything would be. You could say that we had very high expectation after reading guest reviews. For starters, we need to say that the service was outstanding in every possible way! They were welcoming, friendly and not snobbish at all and they all had a great sense of humour. Fantastic atmosphere!
We had a main course and then dessert afterwards. We all felt that the food was well prepared and good, though it lacked some seasoning in parts of the dishes. However - the desserts were the best ones we have ever had - and that's saying something!
We promised one thing to ourselves and that is that we will be back! It was a wonderful experience and hard to beat.11/06/2013 00:00:00ExcellentWhat a fantastic dining experience this was.
Staff were friendly and approachable and made the whole thing very accessible, even if your used to eating in less lavish surroundings.
I advised prior to booking that it was for a 60th Birthday meal and to top it off nicley, our waiter produced a mini birthday cake with candle and chocolate writing - a really positive dining experience.
Price-wise I was surpised at the value we got - good stuff.11/06/2013 00:00:00We went for a pre theatreWe went for a pre theatre dinner mainly for convenience but it turned out to be perfect in more ways than one and would go again even if just for dinner our waiter Gioseppe, probably spelt that wrong, was a delight. Thank you Savoy Grill.10/06/2013 00:00:00Lovely dinnerExcellent food & service, we really enjoyed the dinner and will come back for sure when we are in London again.10/06/2013 00:00:00First time here - and it wasFirst time here - and it was fantastic - great food, great service and very welcoming. Will definately go again next time i'm in London.
Since been back up North I have told everyone up here that they should go.
And very good value - the lamb was delicious.10/06/2013 00:00:00Made our dayWe booked the grill to celebrate our Civil partnership & it was all we wanted it to be. From the time we arrived at the Savoy we were really looked after. We had drinks in the American bar, where we were invited behind by their cocktail waiter before heading to the grill for lunch. The service was impeccable, the food outstanding and nothing was too much. The staff made us feel as special as the day was & we look forward to spending our 1st anniversary there.10/06/2013 00:00:00Exceptional!We are fans of Gordon Ramsay and of fine dining from the US. We wanted to experience one of his venues while visiting London. We savored every bite from starters to desert! No detail was missed or glossed over. The service was flawless from start to finish and the decor in the restaurant as well as the hotel lobby was exquisite. Because of Ramsay's name our expectations were already high and we were not disappointed. Absolute A+.09/06/2013 00:00:00First time for lunch at theFirst time for lunch at the Savoy Grill. And a very positive experience generally. Lively atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, excellent food and in spite of the room being full the service was exceptional. Naturally it is not cheap but if you choose the set lunch meal then there can be no complaints about value for money. Definitely will return there in the future.08/06/2013 00:00:00Very good ambience. I tookVery good ambience. I took my husband their for an anniversary meal. My husband did not enjoy his onion soup it was too cheesy .Our main courses especially the lamb wellington was devine and highly recommended. The dessert the creme brulee was the best ever tasted. The service was outstanding.08/06/2013 00:00:00Wonderful service and theWonderful service and the food was very good, but not excellent or outstanding. The place is very dark inside, which may or may not be a factor for some people. The welcome was warm and, as I said, you couldn't ask for better service.07/06/2013 00:00:00Husbands birthday surpriseWe went to the savoy for my husbands birthday the food and service was amazing. We would return when we have saved enough money, it was worth every penny.07/06/2013 00:00:00Good pre-theatre optionDecent pre-theatre menu in a beautiful setting. I recommend the beef pithivier. Be warned if you're going for the pre-theatre menu and are on a budget that coffee at the end is £5 per person.07/06/2013 00:00:00Good service. Excellent table.Good service. Excellent table. Friendly and efficient staff. Enjoyed the set lunch - good choices too.06/06/2013 00:00:00LunchMyself and a girlfriend had lunch in the week, which we really enjoyed the food was great! the service was marvelous, you felt really important being served, not like in some restaurants we have been in where you are made to feel the staff are doing you a favour in serving you! cannot wait to go again!! thanks05/06/2013 00:00:00Excellent Value Set LunchWhat a treat to have a good choice (4/5) of dishes for each of three courses for £26, £32 with a glass of wine if you like
Great service. Not at all stuffy. Lovely room.05/06/2013 00:00:00Anticipated EventFrom the greeting at the door to being seated at our table we felt welcomed and special. We were not disappointed when our 3 course dinner was served by attentive but discreet waiters and certainly not disappointed at the choice of food or the wine.
Everyone made our visit feel as if we were old friends returning again and again.04/06/2013 00:00:00One of the better LDN restaurantsExcellent all around - The staff at The Savoy are knowledgable, friendly and a pleasure to interact with. The food was of excellent standard and the presentation was of the highest standards. Down to earth eating with an excellent environment. Highly recommended for special occasions, you will not be disappointed02/06/2013 00:00:00Sunday lunch at the SavoyThe entrance to the Savoy is very impressive but we wandered around for a few minutes before we saw the entrance to the Savoy Grill. We were nicely greeted & looked after by friendly staff. The food was excellent and the waitress was keen to point out that we could get a better deal by ordering the same food from the set menu rather than from the 'al la carte'. My roast beef melted in my mouth and it was a generous portion with vegetables cooked to perfection. The recommended wine was very nice also. Overall we thought that for a special occasion the Sunday lunch was good value for money. People were having afternoon tea in another room and that looked very nice also so we will try that next time we are in London. Definitely recommended.02/06/2013 00:00:00excellentA wonderful experience a dealing feeling of class.01/06/2013 00:00:00Had a lovely enjoyable lunchHad a lovely enjoyable lunch enjoyed the experience tremendously would go back again and again. Daughter said it was the best meal she had ever tasted.01/06/2013 00:00:00AmazingThe Savoy Grill
From the minute we walked in we knew we were going to enjoy our afternoon. Friendly staff at the front desk, great ambience and atmosphere and straight to our waiting table. Although the tables are close together you don't feel on top of each other. Waiting staff were all very friendly and knowledgable. Planned to have the set lunch but once we saw the A la carte changed out mind. Every dish was excellent. Muscles in cider, shellfish bisque, whole duck shared and lamb Wellington were all fantastic. This was probably the most expensive meal we have ever had but worth every pound. Sat down at 2 and left at nearly 5 and we made to feel we could stay as long as we wanted. All in all a perfect day.01/06/2013 00:00:00Birthday MealExcellent evening,my daughters "18" birthday, could,nt have been better.the service was friendly and so efficient. Really made her feel special,thanks01/06/2013 00:00:00Excellent food but felt rushedI thought the food was excellent. It was not overly fussy, just good food cooked to perfection. My wife and I both thought all three courses were delicious.
My only gripe is that it all felt a bit rushed. We had an early dinner reservation (6pm) and even though we knew we only had a 1 1/2 hr slot, after 45 minutes we were already at the dessert menu. We asked for a 10 minutes 'breather' but still a different waiter came up every couple of minutes asking if we were ready to order. It got a bit tiresome to be honest although to be fair all the waiters were very nice and friendly.
Despite this, it has not put me off and I will definitely be making a return visit.01/06/2013 00:00:00Excellent birthday lunchWe went to the Savoy to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday and we weren't disappointed at all. The fod was excellent, the service was great and super friendly. We had the lunch menu with wine which was £32 for three courses which seemed very good value to us. We had an excellent time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I'd recommend it to other people and I think we'll be going back again too.01/06/2013 00:00:00Had lunch at the here on SaturdayHad lunch at the here on Saturday and it was very good. We had the set lunch menu at £26 for three courses which represented very good value for the quality of the food, service and setting. Watch out for the extras that can add a sting to the bill - the mineral water and coffees after dinner were extortionate, but still a very good experience overall.01/06/2013 00:00:00Very Nice experience!Great restaurant and perfect for a romantic night out.
Outstanding service and great food!01/06/2013 00:00:00Food is good. Service a bitFood is good. Service a bit intrusive. You feel watched and forced to leave the fast food and restaurants.01/06/2013 00:00:00Great pre theatre menu. LimitedGreat pre theatre menu. Limited choice but sometimes this is good as can be difficult to make a choice. I tried the terrine, mussels and Eton mess, which I struggled to finish. A few of the group chose from the a la carte menu, mixed grill and steak pudding, all delicious. Great atmosphere and very good service. Recommend.31/05/2013 00:00:00Beautiful settingVery good food and excellent service. Lovely endive salad for starters with a goats cheese cream. Excellent fish with the most wonderful jasmine rice and a spectacular millefueille for dessert. Unfortunately it wasn't as fresh as it could have been. I've had better meals in this type of restaurant but I enjoyed this one a lot too. The brilliant service made for a great Friday dinner.31/05/2013 00:00:00The staff made you feel specialOverall it was an excellent experience. But the meat which my husband had was a little bit rubbery. My beef though was very good, one of the best I have eaten. The oysters for starters were excellent, the menu was interesting and I liked that one could choose freely among sideorders and sauces. But the sideorders were slightly too small portions. The creme caramel was not warm which was a little disappointing. I would warmy recommend the restaurant.30/05/2013 00:00:00pre theatre dinnerWe have been to the Savoy grill previously. We had ballet tix and this location is good for the ROH. Service is excellent. We got there just when it opened at 5:30 and were seated at a table for2 -standing alone, as opposed to tables close together in a row, which was nice.
Food was good but my DH soup wasnt too hot and my escargot were just warm, to where the butter on top wasnt fully melted, but we didnt say anything. Rest of dinner was fine. Three courses were appt £26 which was fair
Only negative, they charge 5£ for acup of coffee-thats about $7.50 which we thought was outrageous30/05/2013 00:00:00I think I would sum up ourI think I would sum up our experience as exactly what we would expect from the Savoy, outstanding service and very good food, traditional but very 'up to date' in its presentation. Worth a visit.30/05/2013 00:00:00Fantastic serviceFantastic fantastic service. Great food. Would definitely recommend.29/05/2013 00:00:00Good value, excellent ambienceFirst time at the Savoy Grill for a business lunch. Went for the £32 three course lunch which includes a glass of wine. Ham terrine very good, breaded pork with fried egg tasty if just a tad greasy, panna cotta to finish very nice. Overall a very pleasant place to have lunch and service is what you would expect - excellent.29/05/2013 00:00:00Yes you can afford the Savoy!!Searching for a pre-theatre dinner and found that the Savoy Grill did one for £22 per head. Three choices for each of the starter, main and dessert (£26 for 3 courses). Board bean soup very flavoursome and the steak and onion pithivier (pie basically!) equally tasty. Service was impeccable and the ambiance really classy especially the reception area and the toilets. Watch how much you drink mind! This is where the profit is made and you can very easily spend as much on drinks as you do on food. Hence my 'fair' rating on value.29/05/2013 00:00:00Great atmosphereWent for my 30th and had a lovely evening with great service and good food. The only downsides was that they used pasteurised milk in many of the dishes so my pregnant sister had a very limited selection left and they weren't able to offer substitutions29/05/2013 00:00:00Fantastic food and service.Fantastic food and service. Will definitely be returning.28/05/2013 00:00:00Convenient for the West EndWe had the pre-theatre here this week. Good range of dishes, very good service. Food was good but no more than that. With a bottle of water and a carafe of their cheaper white wine, the bill was £90. In this crowded market, there are many otions that offer better food and better value close by28/05/2013 00:00:00Exceptional DiningI've always wanted to try and dine at any of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants after watching his TV show. So, on our recent trip to London, we had the opportunity to dine at The Savoy Grill for lunch and it was a worthwhile experience. The food was great and the service is wonderful. So glad we made the right choice!27/05/2013 00:00:00I visited Savoy Grill forI visited Savoy Grill for my boyfriends birthday over the bank holiday weekend and really enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere, setting, service was great. We were made to feel really special. My only disappointment was after ordering the scallops I was told a short while after that they were unavailable therefore ordered the lobster which was also unavailable. I'm one of those annoying peeps that doesn't eat meat but only fish and was further limited when both selections were off the menu. I ended up with something I didn't really want but then the lovely waitress had overheard me saying it was my boyfriends birthday and brought over a treat with a candle which was a really nice thought.26/05/2013 00:00:00First ImpressionsAs first time visitors, from the overall appearance and feel of the place to great attentive service and wonderful food, this was a very special occasion. We are already planning the next visit.25/05/2013 00:00:00Great atmosphereVery good service , excellent food and wine.
