A word from The Rivington Bar & Grill
Housed in the Greenwich Picturehouse building, The Rivington Bar and Grill restaurant comes from the London stable that includes such stellar restaurants as The Ivy, Le Caprice and J Sheekey’s. That’s some pedigree. The Rivington Bar and Grill serves back-to-basics British cuisine all day long from brunch until late. The bar offers terrific cocktails and all-day dining - the perfect place to chill and meet friends. But it's the main restaurant we want to focus on here. Flooded with natural light, The Rivington’s whitewashed walls and stripped wooden floors creating a cool and relaxed dining space. The Rivington Bar and Grill's menu is carefully compiled using the best seasonal produce available, sourced from small suppliers in and around the British Isles. Traditional favourites includes dived Lyme Bay scallops with bacon and sea purslane, Hereford rib eye with chips, the all-day breakfast and the delicious bread and butter pudding. Continued

  • "Decided to go to Greenwich for a meal instead of the same old stuff in the o2, before a concert. Excellent choice. Waitress was more than helpful when I asked questions and went out of the way to find out where the bread had come from. Starter of beetroot was delicious and so was my pie and heritage carrots. My friend loved her fish and chips too. Would definitely recommend for a pre o2 meal. All the buses go to the o2 from there anyway!"

  • "We had a lovely meal here as usual, but I do have two minor complaints. Firstly, my cod, which was supposed to come with cockles, came with prawns (with no explanation or apology). Secondly, the bread that is supposed to come before the meal arrived half way through. Nonetheless, this was cancelled out by the fact they do cocktails made with top-shelf spirits for £10 on a Tuesday."

  • "Had a lovely meal out last week at the Rivington. The food was lovely, especially pudding and the staff were very willing to help and be of service. It was however a little dark in the restaurant, but they may have just been where we were placed up against a well? A nice evening out somewhere wich also boasted an impressive list of Gins for a pre meal drink!"

  • "Had to wait an hour for our food. Manager was appropriately apologetic and made suitable compensation for the delay. Did not ,however, detract from a pleasant eating experience."

  • "Went for an early dinner before attending the 02 nearby! Lovely surroundings, nice atmosphere! The spicy parsnip soup with homemade bread was outstanding, followed by Duck , cooked to absolute perfection! I will definitely eat here again and recommend to anyone visiting the Greenwich area!"

  • "We both chose the Chicken and leek pie, when it arrived was found to be mainly pastry - disappointing from what is usually an excellent restaurant."

  • "We went here as part of a birthday treat for my husband. We decided to stay in Greenwich and after researching the restaurants in the area, this one came out the winner. We were not disappointed in any way. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was vibrant. The service also was very good. I would definitely recommend it to anybody visiting the area."

  • "I've been to both Greenwich & Shoreditch restaurants and both offered a superb evening. The food was lovely and I only booked the second time round as food was so good the first time! I only marked the service down slightly as it was busy and it took a little while for food but other than that the service was very good overall! If you are hungry the Red Devon Chicken is a filling meal good portion size and the stuffing is one of the best I've tasted! I will definitely be returning and would recommend to anyone who enjoys their food."

  • "After a bit of what we thought was a blip, the Rivington seems to be back on good form. The mixed beets, pickled walnuts and goats cheese salad was a very tasty starter. I then went for the half Devon Red chicken - quite a plateful but it was so tasty that I couldn't help but finish it! We polished off with the chocolate truffles - perfect with a coffee! We'll be back!"

  • "I went to the Rivington with 24 friends for a suckling pig feast to celebrate my birthday. From start to finish, the whole evening was wonderful and the staff took wonderful care of us. I really can't recommend the restaurant enough. The environment is beautiful, the cocktails are made with passion and care, the wine list is fantastic and very reasonably priced, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable about their menu and the food is outstanding. If anyone fancies a treat then the suckling pig feast is for you!! If you are just popping into Greenwich then this is the place to grab brunch, lunch or dinner (the burgers are amazing) and if you live in Greenwich and haven't been here yet then please go - you will love it!"

  • "Within the same building as the Greenwich Picture House this is ideal of a good (if pricey) meal out before or after a film. If like us you have small children and even getting out to see a film together is a special occasion then this is the place for you. Quite expensive, but good food and a lovely ambience in this restaurant. Our 2 course meal with a glass of wine came to £65. Food is modern British, devilled kidneys, steaks, sausage & mash etc with some tasty traditional puddings. If you fancy something less formal (and cheaper) there is a Pizza Express a few doors down."

  • "Went here with my wife for her birthday. She's gluten free and they made every effort to make things wheat free for her. The restaurant was nicely laid out, plenty of room to move about, without feeling quiet. We both ended up having a fish based meal which were both lovely, had some very nice cocktails, fantastic starters and a great cheese board. Staff are very friendly and keep you feeling looked after without pressure."

  • "Went back to the Rivington after a poor food experience earlier in the summer. Whilst the food and service were near enough faultless, the evening was rather spoilt by a very large and boisterous Xmas party going on upstairs. Given the layout of the restaurant, I would have preferred the courtesy of a call from the restaurant in advance to let patrons know that approx. 30 people would be having a party upstairs!!!"

  • "Really enjoyed dinner here as a celebration with 2 collgeues, great food and service, have returned since"

  • "We had breakfast at the Rivington and most people ordered poached eggs which were cooked to perfection and with gorgeous free-range eggs. However the scrambled egg was bizarre and would not recommend. However, the staff were happy to replace the scrambled eggs with poached so all was well!"

  • "We came to the Rivington because of the offer with the Greenwich theatre ticket. The waiter immediately told us it wasn't a good offer and we should just order from the menu! However when we worked it out it was cheaper. Sadly, the food was not as good as on other occasions."

  • "Rivington Bar & Grill - Went for brunch and food was very good. The restaurant itself was very nice, although it wasnt very busy so lacked atmosphere. Would go again, but wouldn't rush back next week."

  • "This is my favourite restaurant in Greenwich - absolutely beautiful food and cocktails in a warm but chic environment. Absolutely can't recommend it enough - a real treat in Greenwich town centre."

  • "The brunch menu is varied and we both liked the salmon and eggs florentine. The staff were helpful and explained the menu well."

  • "Requested window table, most tables free, we were shown upstairs to an empty floor, It was like sitting in an empty barn . Took 20 mins, much chasing to obtain a drink. Wine did not arrive until after the starters . Food choices limited , sold out at lunch ! Very poor service ."
    dined on 29/09/2013
  • "Waiting staff were very pleasant and helpful but the service was slow. I reckon they had two tables too many to serve as the tables were a bit squashed in. Pre dinner vodka and tonic was only a minute or so before the starter because we'd waited so long. Food was good, can't complain about that. I will go again but not sure it would be for that special occasion until the tables/waiting time gets sorted. This is a great place for Saturday brunch when sitting at the bar, can't knock that."
    dined on 20/09/2013
  • "Food delicious as usual with charming service. I had potted shrimps on toast (tasty and generous) followed by two starters - grilled sardines and a beetroot and cheese salad. I enjoyed it all and felt I'd made a perfect choice. Hot day so drank Meantime pale ale which was light and refreshing. Breakfast menu looks tempting but never tried it."

  • "I have eaten a few times at the Rivington Bar and Grill in Greenwich and i have never been disappointed. The staff are always up beat and friendly, without being over the top. The food was cooked exactly how we asked it to be, my steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. And the recommendation of the wine was spot on. It's not a cheap meal but then it's not ridiculously expensive, and with the Rivington, i feel, you get what you pay for."
    dined on 15/08/2013
  • "Better than average for this area. There are plenty of places to eat in Greenwich but this one, if perhaps a bit pricier, outclasses the other chains hereabouts. Our food was extremely well prepared. Service was a bit sloppy, however."

  • "I went to Rivington for a first serious date and it was great - not to 'heavy' but high quality, great service and a smart and relaxed atmosphere."
    dined on 26/07/2013
  • "We have eaten here many times before, but this was a disappointing experience. Food arrived far too quickly (both courses) and was generally disappointing. Worst were the rib-eye steaks, which had to be sent back to the kitchen due to poor quality of meat and cooking. The staff were very apologetic, and we didn't have to pay for either of the mains, but it doesn't reflect well on the kitchen that they were happy to send out poor cuts of meat. I'm sure we'll be back, but probably not for a while."

  • "We went to The Rivington Bar & Grill Greenwich late afternoon on a very sunny Sunday. We were having a late lunch/early dinner but actually arrived early and were immediately shown to a table - I guess we there at an in between time (4.30pm). The lady that took our drink order was very helpful - they were out of Hendricks gin but she immediately recommended an alternative. I had potted shrimp to start which was very tasty and a good portion. We both ordered the roast beef which was beautifully cooked and with vegetables that had been cooked to order and sitting around since 1pm. All in all a really good meal with friendly helpful staff. It's not cheap but we felt we had good value for money. We would go again."

  • "Visited the Rivington bar and grill as 2 couples for an anniversary occassion. The food and service was of a good quality and we would visit again."

  • "having been to the rivington before, i was disappointed that the experience was quite lack lustre. The food was ordinary, the wine ok, but i expect better for £90 for two courses. when i questioned the omission from my dinner, i was told, sorry the chef forgot!"

  • "Rivingtons specialise in classic British food with a modern twist and by and large they do it well. Reasonable value for money rather than outstanding perhaps, but a great place to go for a proper dining experience with crisp white table-cloths and generous portions. As well as the standard al a carte menu, printed on the place settings (bring specs if short-sighted!), they usually have a selection of specials and a bar menu (there's a number of bar seats for this purpose) which they also serve at table. Usually busy and quite noisy due to the high ceilings, for a quieter spot ask for a table on the mezzanine level. If potted shrimp, devilled kidneys on toast, Barnsley chop and traditional puds are your thing, you won't be disappointed."

  • "An absolute gem of a restaurant! Beautiful food, fantastic selection of wine and they make wonderful cocktails too. Highly recommended!"
    dined on 12/06/2013
  • "Good menu always written on placemat with wine selection. Changes regularly but soft centre Scotch Duck Egg a perennial favourite available from bar menu."
    dined on 15/06/2013
  • "The Rivington Grill is my favourite restaurant in Greenwich - the burger is out of this world - i recommend the luxury burger with all the trimmings, divine! Great selection of wines available too by the glass, carafe or bottle."

  • "I brought overseas guests here for breakfast before a stroll in Greenwich museums and the park. Full English breakfast and Eggs Benedict were both rated very highly, and service was fairly quick. Ambience pleasant. Not a standout but would go again if I was in the area."

  • "We went to this restaurant for a Sunday lunch. We had a previous positive experience so decided to go back. After this lunch, I don't think we will rush back. The food was average. Garlic soup considerably lacked the flavour. I ordered a grilled sea bream with mashed potato. The dish was without any specific flavour and the fish was cut open on the wrong side making it a bit difficult to eat. My partner's fish & chips was swimming in oil. The pork dish was nice however the scallop dish wasn't worth the money as the serving was too small. The service was extremely slow as we ended up waiting for our main meal for nearly an hour. The staff was however very pleasant and professional. Going forward, we will avoid this place during peak times."

  • "The food here is always good in what must be one of the better settings amongst Greenwich restaurants! It is a great place to catch up with friends and though the lobster (loved this dish on a previous visit) wasn't on the menu this time, we are looking forward to it being back on as we'll then know what we'll be having for the main course!"

  • "Sadly our return visit was not up to the standard we normally expect here, and was entirely marred by the disastrous temperature control. We sat upstairs this time, and if we were to return, we would definitely asked for a table on ground floor. We can't say if this was a one off as we never got to the bottom of it but we were blasted with tropical heat and then Arctic cold throughout the whole evening, despite asking if we could move or get the heating system looked at. Sadly this let the whole dining experience down, despite great service as always! Even our waitress was over-heating at points! The food was on the whole average this time, which again may be a one-off. The fish and chips were oily and the batter heavy. Desserts were good!"

  • "A great meal with friends. The drinks were good and the food great. The crab starter was enormous - we all really enjoyed it!"

  • "We planned a day out in Greenwich so I was looking for a decent restaurant to kick-off with. Most options available seemed to be tex-mex or italian, so The Rivington looked to be most suitable. Staff was slightly confused and very disorganised, we had different menus, steak had to be returned for being impossible to cut into (particularly with standard, non-steak cutlery). Generally the food was good - gastropub standard, although the prices would suggest this was designed to be more than a gastropub. Atmosphere lacking. OK for a quick meal before/after but wouldn't recommend as the main event. Scotch duck egg definitely recommended though."
