Diner Reviews
  • "I have been to The plough a few times and have never been disappointed. I went for my birthday with a group of friends and as usual the food was excellent."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "A great pub in Harborne for all occasions - we were here to celebrate my birthday and I had a great meal. Everyone enjoyed their food. Would have been even better if our food had arrived together though."
    dined on 19/03/2014
  • "The Plough is great value for money, with friendly staff and always a really good experience. I always recommend the plough as it never lets you down."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "Excellent food, good size portions (not obscenely large) brilliant ambiance, friendly & efficient staff. And I was in good company too!"
    dined on 26/02/2014
  • "Have always loved visiting the plough for breakfast and lunch so thought I'd enjoy the dinner just as much. However due to it being a very busy pub that seemed to take priority over people dining. We had to fight with the crowds just to order our food and buy any drinks. By the time we'd reached the bar for drinks out dinner had gone cold. People had been sitting on our reserved table and it was full of glass etc which I had to find staff to clean. Not at all attentive to the diners."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "I regularly eat and drink in The Plough as Harborne is local to where i live. Took friends who were visiting from out of town with a young child, and they loved it. A good mix and atmosphere, and very welcoming with children"
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "Met up with a few friends for brunch, we chose this due to the good quality of the food and relaxed atmosphere. 2 4 1 on brunch if before 11am, so even better value!"
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "The food was great but there was a draft where we were sat in the back by the windows"
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "We were very impressed with the food...excellent quality and delicious and good value for money.....service was slow but as it was very busy ..understandable.great buzz of people but very noisy....though there were a few tables round the back that were in a slightly quieter area. Will def come back!"
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "Sunday lunch with the family - very good - the pizza was excellent."
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "but just not this time. I went in for Saturday brunch. I ordered the Plough's version of a Full English. For £9.50 I was expecting quite a lot. Sadly, it was very average. The portion was quite small (I had to get a sandwich on the walk home) and they forgot my hash brown. The place is setup nicely for parents to bring their kids and it's always very bright with a good ambience. The staff weren't as friendly as usual but I'll take that with a pinch of salt because it was so busy. It's not like they were rude or anything. I'd still recommend it and I'm not put off by one average experience."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "Excellent service, food and atmosphere as always. Always enjoy coming back here, great menu, really is delicious. Highly recommend."
    dined on 12/02/2014
  • "Excellent, the new buns are great and the burgers always have been. We can never choose so often have to split them in half and if we do not have an even number we just have a burger for the table! The pulled chicken burger was fab and the Swiss and Mushroom (but it was spicy which is NOT on the description)."
    dined on 11/02/2014
  • "Very disappointing over priced Sunday lunch. The beef was very salty, 1 meal came out with no potatoes and the suede and carrot mash resembled baby food. Very, very disappointing!!"
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "Food is very, very expensive for a pub in Birmingham, but pretty good, though it would be nice if they had some cheaper options. The positive on that point is that this is way better than most pubs in Birmingham. Better than any other I've been in, in fact. Lots of attention to detail to make the environment very lovely. They also have good coffee and the staff are attentive and friendly/professional. If they have to charge what they do for food and beer to keep the place nice, I can accept that. I do wish they'd turn the music waaaay down, though."
    dined on 04/02/2014
  • "Hearty, wholesome and tasty food. My salmon was cooked to perfection. Decor is quirky (rustic/ industrial) ands there's a great ambience. Very enjoyable lunch."
    dined on 03/02/2014
  • "We had brunch here on a Saturday! Very lively and busy which shows popularity! Eggs Benedict was perfect and the house breakfast the same! You leave feeling satisfied but not that guilty, bleugh, bloated feeling you can get from a big breakfast! Spot on!!"
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "The Plough has a great atmosphere, friendly staff and exceptional food, what more can you ask for !"
    dined on 30/01/2014
  • "3 of us had a very pleasant lunch - if anything we over-ate, which might account for the surprisingly hefty £72 bill (including 2 pints of beer and a ginger beer). Meat is everywhere, and in generous helpings, and tasty too. We enjoyed beef, pork and lamb. But I would steer clear of the bitter chocolate tart (not quite chocolatey enough to overcome the glucose syrup in the recipe)."
    dined on 17/01/2014
  • "Love the busy-ness of The Plough at Harborne. Family groups, groups of friends, couples, older people, the whole cross section seem to use this venue. Only disappointment is lack of decent dessert menu. Make sure you book as it gets very busy particularly at weekends."
    dined on 12/01/2014
  • "The Plough offers consistency in every area. First start frequenting about 5 years ago, have moved away and around the UK and now back in Harborne. Great food at all times, generally friendly and efficient service and a great range of good quality beverages. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for and is worth every penny. There are some great offers in the week on food, and it's 241 if you've invested in a taste card!"
    dined on 07/01/2014
  • "Great meal in a country pub atmosphere, very busy would definitely eat here again, remember its best to book in advance to ensure a place."
    dined on 04/01/2014
  • "Excellent food and atmosphere. Great for our team Christmas lunch. Roll on next year!"
    dined on 11/12/2013
  • "this is a popular pub and always busy - always best to book - Weekend brunches are fantastic and they are very accommodating for our 2 and half year old who often makes a mess!"
    dined on 23/11/2013
  • "Went on two for one burger.. Food came quickly and was very tasty. Only thing that brought it down it took them 35 min to clear our empty plates.. Def book a table as it's full ! Also do two for one pizzas on a Monday another bargain"
    dined on 05/11/2013
  • "Had a great lunch with friends at the Plough, does not look like much from the outside but great atmosphere, excellent food and friendly, caring service. I immediately felt comfortable no sooner I walked in and despite being busy, service at the bar was very quick. The food is not chain pub cheap but the 'offers of the day' make it very affordable and the food is a big step up from generic pub food. Shame I do not live nearer as I would make it my local."
    dined on 28/10/2013
  • "Great food, beer and wine with excellent service. Pizzas have properly thin, crisp bases and are not overloaded with topping, but still are very filling. Fish and chips are pretty good too. Now that the seating has been massively expanded it usually is possible to get a table more or less any time. For the time that triggered this review I had booked because I needed to talk about work with a colleague, but a few days later I went on spec for lunch and while there were not many tables free I only needed one."
    dined on 18/10/2013
  • "Pizzas were divine, service friendly and helpful, ambience was good, nice buzz. Always recommend this pub/eatery :)"
    dined on 14/10/2013
  • "The food was brilliatn as usual. The prices are a bit steep though"
    dined on 12/10/2013
  • "living in harborne, plough is my top choice to meet with friends: casual, comfortable and relaxing, children friendly, good food with great deals, also impressed with their friendly and good service. however, I only go there before 6pm, can't find spaces to even stand in the evening!"
    dined on 08/10/2013
  • "We went on a Wednesday night and booked a table (for 4). Good job we did as all tAbles were taken! Great choice on the new menu. This is more a pub than restaurant so does get very busy with drinkers at the weekend. The pulled chicken burger I had was fantastic. Can't go wrong with the Plough."
    dined on 09/10/2013
  • "Have eaten here a few times and am never disappointed. Lots of families with childeren and grandparents."
    dined on 27/10/2012
  • "Have already recommended to all my friends and go here several times a month, whatever the occasion. Good ales, good wine selection and plenty of unusual spirits and liqueurs. Great welcoming atmosphere & always well staffed."
    dined on 21/09/2013
  • "Long live the PLOUGH! Perfect for a quick meal at lunchtime, a Sundau brunch or high tea with wonderful sandwiches and cakes. On this occasion for a family meal out. Advise booking on Saturday night as it was very busy - not the kind of place to go for quiet meal for two. Menu is limited - if you don't like pizza or hamburgers- there is however a wide variety of these. There are always specials but on this occasion they had run out of steak at 8pm. I have been many times now and standard has always been good. A good place to dine with a crowd and also to drink with friends /family."
    dined on 14/09/2013
  • "Normally the food is good here but I made the mistake of going for the low-carb burger, so just the burger (no bun) with salad and coleslaw. The burger was dry, thin and over-cooked and presented rather unappealingly on loads of cos lettuce leaves. It came with a small salad, with even more cos lettuce with just a few cherry tomatoes thrown on the top and only the teeniest bit of dressing. The coleslaw was nice but in the smallest pot, no more than 2 mouthfuls. All for the rather princely sum of £9 -rip off! Don't bother. We did complain and the staff were great, they changed the order straight away. There are too many pizzas on the menu now and where have the good old English dishes gone? Shepherds' pie, bangers and mash..?!"
    dined on 11/09/2013
  • "We booked for 4 people, sat at the rear adjacent to the toilet door and the open sliding window, and although we thoroughly enjoyed our meat it was a little busy with people passing to use the loo's, and people smoking outside near the window, but on the whole a very enjoyable evening."
    dined on 30/08/2013
  • "We reserved a table, and were seated promptly on arrival. All staff were friendly, very helpful and professional. Food was served piping hot, and having had a starter we were asked how soon after we would like our main to be served which was great. Food was really tasty and I would definitely recommed the meal I had. On completion plates were cleared very quickly from the table which is often the downfall in busy pubs."
    dined on 17/08/2013
  • "Had a great lunch here with a friend. Lovely ambience, cool interior and good service. Food was tasty and well presented and felt that it was priced about right. Would happily recommend."
    dined on 16/08/2013
  • "Not for the faint hearted! But two for one burgers and great atmosphere help me to ignore this fact, I know nothing!"
    dined on 06/08/2013
  • "Came here for a little breakfast treat for my birthday and was very impressed with service, food, ambiance and the staff were absolutely delightful! Will b recommending this little gem to others!"
