i would recomend it17/05/2013 00:00:00The Plough delivered againThis was our third meal and our fourth visit to the Plough. It was quite difficult to get a table and we ended up in the very first Sunday sitting. But even as people flooded in, the service remained impeccable and the food was the usual great quality and perfect amount. I wish this was our local, I would spend my weekends here.12/05/2013 00:00:00A beautiful old building withA beautiful old building with a lovely ambiance. I have used the plough a few times now and always find the food excellent and the service fantastic. Would thouroughly recommend. Its on the more expensive side of pub food but yoore never dissapointed11/05/2013 00:00:00SuperbExcellent menu, fine cuisine, comprehensive wine list, this restaurant has so much to recommend it. If you have the opportunity to dine here, do so as much as you can afford. The emphasis on quality was such that they even have the best tonic to serve with their gin, namely Fever Tree. The staff are welcoming, efficient and unobtrusive. The food is simply superb. Go for the dessert soufflés - as light as a cloud in heaven!10/05/2013 00:00:00Fine discreet country restaurantSet is a picturesque country setting, we enjoyed an
excellent traditional menu with quality sourced produce.
The turbot was very good, as was the venison, the staff
were very attentive and genuinely warm and friendly.04/05/2013 00:00:00Great ExperienceMy wife and I visited The Plough the weekend before I was due to fly to China on business for an extended leave of absence, we wanted a special/romantic place to spend the evening - we were not disappointed.
The setting was lovely, we were lucky enough to have a table by the pond in the extension of the room which was beautiful. The décor was superb and everything about it was homely and had a really welcoming feel to it.
The food was exceptional. We started with Tapas style nibbles to share and had different meals, I had the Venison which was excellently presented and superbly cooked and cannot recommend it highly enough! My wife had a chicken dish, again wonderfully well presented and I have it on good account that it was beautiful.03/05/2013 00:00:00An idyllic dayWe went for work to celebrate a birthday, we had plenty of time so we could be relaxed and we were able to sit outside the rural surroundings and just enjoy the day which was fantastically sunny. Staff were friendly and attentive, but not fussy and were happy for us to eat outside. The food was lovely, the nibbles to share were full of flavour, and the devils on horseback had the sweetness of the prunes and saltiness of the bacon just right. For mains the chicken in particular was succulent and the potato gratin with bacon was really tasty. The prices were also reasonable and the wine list was good. We had a very reasonable unoaked Chardonnay. Definitely recommend it. .01/05/2013 00:00:00Nice break off the A1Although about 15 minutes from the A1 this is a super pub with excellent food and great service. A nice break en route from London to the North.26/04/2013 00:00:00SuperbGood service and excellent food. I've recommended to friends already19/04/2013 00:00:00Sunday LunchA very good lunch served by professional staff in a charming setting14/04/2013 00:00:00The Plough - Sunday LunchWe were a group of five booked for Sunday lunch - the food was excellent (and they dealt with my gluten free requirements very well including some excellent bread to start with), portion sizes were ample. Three had the roast beef with all the trimmings and two had fish - all were very tasty. Excellent use of local and seasonable ingredients which is nice to see and the desserts were heavenly. Overall the service was excellent and the ambiance in the place is great - love the picnic blankets and games for the garden and look forward to visiting again in the warmer summer months.14/04/2013 00:00:00Plough at BolnhurstWe thought that the Plough was a very good place for a special anniversary dinner, just that bit special. The service was friendly and good and the food nicely presented and freshly prepared. We had the Porterhouse Steak for 2, which was cooked to perfection and allowed to rest before serving.11/04/2013 00:00:00Great for a romantic meal outThe atmosphere was so welcoming that we relaxed immediately we walked through the door. The food was stupendous because it combined such depth and range of flavours served by people who knew what they were serving. The food we had was delicious and complex but light enough to leave you looking forward to the next course. It was a magical evening and we left wanting to go again as soon as we have another special occasion.11/04/2013 00:00:00The Plough - a bright star ...Having sourced this venue with a general location in mind, we were extremely pleased with the outcome. Meeting friends for a long overdue dinner, we quickly realised we had picked the right place. A menu that had us all purring, starters (especially the foie gras) set us up for exquisite main meals - we just couldn't eat any more when it came to puddings! The wine menu (sourced by Noel Young) gave up an excellent (is there any other kind) Amarone - what more can I say? Will we go back? Yes. What's stopping us? Only an excuse for a night out ...10/04/2013 00:00:00Lovely place and child friendlyWe had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Plough.
Our 8 month old baby was made very welcome and they washed his spoon and warmed his food.
Everything great!07/04/2013 00:00:00ExcellentAn anniversary meal for 2.
It could not have been better. The Chef should be on Masterchef.
It was packed but service and the quality of the food was unsurpassed.
The wine was good too.....06/04/2013 00:00:00Oustanding atmostsphere and foodI wanted to take my boyfriend out for a special meal and picked this restaurant through reviews and word of mouth. The restaurant is lovely and has a wonderful atmosphere. My boyfriend opted for the venison steak off of the specials menu & I had the guinea fowl. Both were superb and very tasty. We both had Buffalo Mozzeralla to start and for dessert, I had chocolate souffle & my boyfriend had sticky toffee pudding, The choice of food on the menu is excellent and the steaks which other diners had opted for looked amazing. If you want to dine out somewhere special, where you are not concerned about spending money on a fabulous meal, then this is the place to go. There is an exceptional wine list on offer the cheapest bottle of wine being £20.06/04/2013 00:00:00A BIRTHDAY TREATANOTHER VISIT TO OUR FAVORITE LOCAL RESTAURANT, WE HAVE A SON IN CHISWICK AND WE EAT NON-LOCAL THEN.
AT THE PLOUGH WE GET A WARM WELCOME,WE GET EXCELLENT FOOD, IN LOVELY SURROUNDINGS.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.04/04/2013 00:00:00A very good experienceA bitterly cold evening - a wam bar with a welcoming log fire and hosts who were attentive, pleasant and ready for us. Coats were taken, drinks served - a very imaginative menu soon appeared. The oak conservatory, where our table was situated, was pleasant if a little chilly. Good attentive service throughout the meal - perfectly paced. Hot delicious food - highlights: the Portland crab thermidore, and the tranche of turbot. Too full for puddings! A fair price for what we were served. Altogether, a very good experience especially for a special occasion - our wedding anniversary - and we intend to return for my birthday in June when we may be able to enjoy the outdoor dining!03/04/2013 00:00:00Fab meal!We had an absolutely fantastic meal at The Plough. Great night celebrating my husbands promotion. He needs to be promoted again!23/03/2013 00:00:00Saturday lunch at the Plough,We received a warm welcome and shown a comfortable and informal table in the open bar, amongst ample leather armschairs for drinkers. We chose a light lunch which proved tasty, beautifully presented and a real treat. Will definitely return for the more formal dining experience next time.23/03/2013 00:00:00Charming venue with superb foodFirst impressions are important and we knew as soon as we drove into the car park, that our experience was going to be a positive one. The bar area upon walking in was warm and inviting. We were welcomed by friendly and helpful staff. We were presented with a choice of menu (that changed daily) and a specials menu which was incredibly good value. The dining area was open and light and airy. The food was excellent - cooked with skill - each flavour easily discernible. Loved the little extras - basket full of fluffy throws to huddle in whilst in the garden and the array of picnic rugs hanging on hooks in the lobby area. Incredibly clean but definitely nor clinical. Definitely worth the two hour drive to get there!21/03/2013 00:00:00fantastic!beautiful decor, very attentive staff.

What a fantastic experience! I couldnt recommend them highly enough, not only did they take care of us, they excelled with the service and support to make this a really memorable event. So much so that my Dad commented the next day that it was the best Birthday he has ever had. THANK YOU!23/02/2013 00:00:00Good food, attentive and helpfulGood food, attentive and helpful service. Thoroughly enjoyable!23/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent restaurantMy Husband and I got to the Plough in Bolnhurst on special occasions. We have been there a few times, and have never had a bad meal. We have the steak and it is lovely. The service is really good and the atmosphere is great. Would recommend The Plough to anyone.19/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent food and great atmosphereHad a brilliant Sunday lunch. I introduced a friend to it and she loved it too. Delicious tender beef, great yorkshire pud and roast potatoes and the puds were great too! Can't wait to go back.17/02/2013 00:00:00FabulousThis is the second time we have eaten here, bit of a drive but worth it and would definately do again. The food is absolutely fabulous and the service is second to none - the staff are a credit to the Plough, on both occassions they made us feel special. Prices are very reasonable especially in relation to the quality. Would wholeheartedly recommend.16/02/2013 00:00:00Birthday MealHadn't been to The Plough for two years and could tell - steak prices had risen a bit! Decided not to have a starter and had Halibut dish, it was really delicious. Husband had Wood Pigeon and that was cooked to perfection. Would have perhaps liked another vegetable on the plate - we polished it all off quite quickly! However, after pudding we were full. I had a Pear Panacotta and he had a Chocolate marquis - a bit like a chocolate orange mousse/cake. Both delicious. With a drink at the bar and a bottle of wine the bill came to around £84. A very nice night out. If I could afford to go again soon, I would!16/02/2013 00:00:00The ambiance was lovely, theThe ambiance was lovely, the staff very friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing, some of the nicest we have had for a long time. The delicacy and the mix of the flavours was outstanding and worth of Michelin star status, beautiful.14/02/2013 00:00:00A local Gem to be savouredThe most wonderfully warm and genuine welcome with open fires and rustic beams decorating the absolute professionalism of the owners and staff. Good local beers and extensive wine list, reasonably priced at the lower end and never disappointing. A wide range of wines by the glass.
Excellent homemade bread and delicious pre-starter tasters often prevent full use of the starter menu especially since the main courses do not skimp on quantity.
Presentation is not overly fancy with taste the main target. Puddings good with the lemon tart a regular favourite and useful sweet wine suggestions. Extensive cheese menus (usually has to be an either/or.)
Ends with excellent coffee and homemade biscuits.08/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent menu choicesI took my husband for lunch to celebrate his 50th birthday, we had a very relaxed and enjoyable experience from start to finish... the menu choices were excellent, I had the sticky beef cheeks which were amazing... so tender and tasty! My husband had the Italian cheese selection to finish his meal, which he really enjoyed, he was given all the details about the cheeses which he found really informative! I would recommend the Plough to anyone wanting a truly Gastro Pub experience!29/01/2013 16:00:00Excellent food and wine. VeryExcellent food and wine. Very competent and pleasant staff. Slightly pricey especially the cheese served as the third course.25/01/2013 16:00:00Beauty at BolnhurstIf you are looking for a beautiful setting, warm inviting service, food that is other worldly and a venue to suit all occasions then it has to be the Plough at Bolnhurst. We found this place purely by chance on The Good Food Guide app on the iPhone and have never looked back. We have since spent many happy romantic evenings and several special family occasions in the good company of the team at the restaurant.
Our last meal consisted of wonderfully light and earthy fresh trout, perfectly pink Pheasant, sticky Beef Cheeks that melted in your mouth and probably the best Aberdeenshire Steak my partner has ever (ever) eaten. Our average meal price for a generous starter/main/desert and drinks is £80-£100. A small price for a taste of heaven!!!25/01/2013 16:00:00Excellent LunchAnother excellent lunch at this outstanding restaurant. Food and service are consistently of the highest quality.24/01/2013 16:00:00Lovely as always! We ate from the January sales lunch time menu. £22 for three courses and a glass of wine. Plenty of choice and all delicious. Service is great without being intrusive. Sticky toffee pudding to die for! We use the Plough fairly regularly as you can always rely on the quality here.24/01/2013 16:00:00We visited the Plough forWe visited the Plough for the January sale. It waa outstanding value ans beautiful food! I would recommend this deal to anyone.22/01/2013 16:00:00Delicious every timeWe had the January sales menu of 3 courses for £22.We were not disappointed. To start, I had the deep fried white bait with lemon mayonnaise which was delicious and plentiful. Hubbie had the chicken liver pate which was yummy.I then had the confit duck leg which was melt in the mouth.Would highly recommend.Hubbie had the pork, also very good. Both portions were very generous.Dessert was chocolate marquis with hazelnuts (I left out the coffee anglaise as Im not a huge fan). The marquis was divine! Hubbie had sticky toffee pudding and it certainly wasnt shabby. The service was attentive as usual but with a couple of mix ups, one with our order and one with the bill. But overall, it was a very enjoyable evening out and I cant wait to go again.22/01/2013 16:00:00Birthday MealAttended the restaurant to celebrate my daughters birthday. Excellent meal however the teenagers felt that the choice of menu wasn't for all ages as they didn't recognise half of the food on the menu. In my son's words there were too many weird names!!! They both choose items they had never had before and ate the lot! Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. Staff very polite and attentive. Food delicious.21/01/2013 16:00:00January Sale - fantastic valueAlways interested in a bargain the January Sale offer at the Plough seemed too good to miss. A 3 course meal with a glass of house wine and a pint of real ale for me for £22 per head!!! Unbelievable value. The food was very good, the only negative being the stringy and slightly chewy beef in my steak & kidney pie. Other than that everything was tasty and well cooked. The staff are on the ball and available if assistance is needed. We left feeling contented, pleasantly full and happy in the knowledge that we had managed to grab probably the best bargain in this years sales.16/01/2013 16:00:00Best in BedsWe have been going here since it opened (about 12-15 years I think), and it never disappoints. Wonderful food and wine - even the nibbles and bread are special. Service is excellent, friendly and usually not intrusive. I have tried other restaurants occasionally, but they really don't compare well, as the Plough is outstanding.
Crossword Couple29/12/2012 16:00:00Booked to have a ChristmasBooked to have a Christmas dinner with a friend. We arrived slightly late but the staff welcomed us and asked if we would like to relax with a drink first in the bar. We did and very cosy and comfortable this is with a large open log fire, comfortable tables and chairs and real 'ambience'.
We ordered our food and were shown to our table where we had an excellent meal. The staff were excellent. Attentitive but not pushy.
We will most certainly be back and are looking forward to a summers evening there to experience the countryside from the garden.18/12/2012 16:00:00Birthday meal at the PloughMy wife, my sister-in-law and I ate at the Plough for the fourth time last week, at a fairly busy time a couple of weeks before xmas. On every occasion our meals have been excellent and the service attentive and friendly without being intrusive. All dishes have been well presented, arriving in good time despite the full restaurant. My lamb in particular was mouth-watering. We will continue to eat at the Plough on my sister-in-law's birthday - it is becoming something of a tradition and has never disappointed..15/12/2012 16:00:00Superb all roundSpent a fantastic evening with my wife for her birthday one week prior to Christmas, not harrased or rushed, just perfect. Staff very friendly and unobtrusive. On the back of this evening I purchased meal voucher for my retired parents to hopefully enjoy a fantastic lunch/evening to.14/12/2012 16:00:00
