  • "the meal was outstanding and because the PLOUGH has an open kitchen, one feels even more satisfied.top chefs."
    dined on 13/04/2014
  • "We had a lovely meal for two. Service and atmosphere were great and the steak was fabulous! Quite expensive but worth it for a special occasion."
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "Went to celebrate my birthday. Excellent food and service with a very friendly welcome. We had four people serve us through the evening, possibly because the restaurant was not full on a Tuesday evening, and the clearance service was a little intrusive at times. A huge range of wines available - possibly too many. Limited vegetarian options."
    dined on 08/04/2014
  • "Relaxed dining experience, friendly staff, good service, we all enjoyed the food."
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Wonderful food with a wide choice of dishes and prices - set menu exceptional value. Good selection of wines and beers. Fantastic puddings - even Mother-in-Law, who had been adamant from the outset that she would only have two courses, couldn't resist!"
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "Our son treated his Mum (and Dad) to lunch at The Plough on Mothering Sunday. It was a fantastic meal in delightful surroundings with first-class service, and I didn't even have to pay!!!"
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "We ate mid-week at The Plough for our Silver Wedding Anniversary and had a great dining experience. My husband said his steak was the best he thought he had ever had, and our mixed ice-creams and sorbet were delicious - we even plan to return during the Summer months to sit outside near the pond and order a bowl of ice-cream! There was a buzzing atmosphere in the bar and a busy, but quieter one in the restaurant - we had stopped going out for birthdays mid-week elsewhere as the places were often too quiet. A 5* experience and we shall be returning without a special occasion to celebrate - we live south of Bedford and the journey through town in the evening didn't take as long as we had thought."

  • "To celebrate my wife's birthday - food very good, ambience great - but staff very busy - need to watch this - forgot to take our wine order, and had quantities wrong, but it all worked out in the end - will not put us going as often as we can afford it."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "I could have enjoyed anything on the menu, they have a high temperature charcoal oven, that really seals in flavour, check it out online, and book in, great food, ambience, and service."

  • "We have always loved The Plough, it really is the best; most loveliest place to eat, and we have eaten in lots of places. Great food, great staff and fantastic building, very tasteful indeed in all senses of the word."

  • "Always a delight to visit this restaurant, must go back in the summer and enjoy the patio too."
    dined on 07/03/2014
  • "We've been dining at the Plough for a good few years now and the standard has always been really high. This visit was no exception, in fact I think our two meals this time stand out above any we've had for a while, even at the Plough. Scallops for both of us, then pork for one, lamb the other. All beautiful, perfect even. Great atmosphere too. The best restaurant for miles around."
    dined on 07/03/2014

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a rare night out and enjoyed a super dinner at The Plough. Service was very good and food divine."
    dined on 28/02/2014
  • "In the food desert that is Bedford, The Plough is an oasis. Even if it isn't, strictly speaking, Bedford. A stand-out dish for me was my starter of beautifully cooked salmon with a horseradish soufflé, the textures and flavours were fabulous together and kind of helped me over the disappointment that there was no soufflé on the dessert menu that day. Not only are they an oasis for food, they also take service very seriously and they achieve just the right level of friendliness and professionalism. The place itself is homely and stylish; still functions as a country pub and looks and feels like one but the food is way above gastro pub level."
    dined on 02/03/2014
  • "It is hard to fault The Plough. Everything is as good as it gets. Enough said!"
    dined on 01/03/2014
  • "We've been to the Plough several times and always enjoyed it. It's our go to place now when we have visitors."
    dined on 01/03/2014
  • "Good choice, good service. Let down by one sweet being very hard. Suspicions of frozen and fast microwave thaw. Not at all what was expected."
    dined on 27/02/2014
  • "Excellent meal in comfortable rural surroundings. We all left feeling happy and contented"
    dined on 27/02/2014
  • "This was simply the best lunch we have had for a long time. It started well in the way we were instantly greeted on coming through the door. The service was spot on, careful but not intrusive. The blackboard menu allowed a wide choice, while being very clear about cost. The pace of lunch was superbly judged, we were surprised to find we had been there for nearly an hour and a half. Good beer, fresh orange juice, interesting menu, good service, comfortable and beautiful surroundings… a wonderful experience"
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "My husband and I met up with an old friend who had recommended the Plough. We are so pleased that he did! The menu was interesting and the execution of the chosen dishes excellent. We had a warm welcome and the ambiance was equally warm. We will certainly return."
    dined on 21/02/2014

    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "We arrived at The Plough in the pouring rain after a very chaotic morning ...... As soon as we walked in the ambience made us both relax immediately. No over the top Valentine decoration just a stunning heart shaped rose wreath on the front door. We enjoyed our fist drink at the bar surrounded by crackling fires and fellow diners. Our waiter was informative, attentive and discreet. The food was exceptional and we will definitely go again."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "We have eaten a this restaurant several times and would highly recommend the ambience, first class service and most of all exceptional food. It is very informal dining with a touch of romance in the evenings with the fires burning and candles on the tables. Also an excellent place to take friends or business lunches."
    dined on 12/02/2014
  • "Had a great meal out once again at The Plough with a group of friends. The atmosphere was very relaxed, the staff friendly and very helpful. The food was delicious with a great wine and beer selection, whats not to like. I Would recommend The Plough to anyone who enjoys good quality food and great service all of which were top notch."
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "Yet again another fantastic evening with delicious food, the quality of which was excellent! I certainly look forward to dining here again in the very near future."
    dined on 29/01/2014
  • "Food was, as ever, top rate. There was a wide choice of interesting options and five of us all enjoyed the experience. The special offer of three courses for £22 was excellent value. It's a pity that prices revert to "normal" for eleven months of the year. Wines too were good, despite our limited choosing abilities. One slight quibble was that we felt a little rushed. There is no need to clear glasses as soon as they are emptied. We skipped coffee, concerned that we wouldn't be able to linger."
    dined on 30/01/2014
  • "We have always eaten very well at the Plough and their winter sale made it outstanding value also! They always use excellent ingredients, locally sourced where possible and the cooking is to a consistent, very high standard. Service is always friendly and unobtrusive."
    dined on 30/01/2014
  • "We both had the soup and the Blade of Beef. It sounds silly to get excited about something as simple as a meal out but with the offerings from The Plough it's hard not to . Usually I'll try something at The Plough that I wouldn't usually try in an ordinary eaterie- perhaps something that I wouldn't list as one of my favourites but The Plough can always be relied upon to make sure the meal is excellent . But one of my favourites , beef was on offer this time so I couldn't wait to see how it would be with The Plough treatment I wasn't disappointed . To say it was delicious is an understatement. Incredible and amazing would be more accurate . I can't recommend The Plough highly enough . And if blade of beef is on the menu prepare yourself."
    dined on 29/01/2014
  • "Lovely place operating to it`s full potential. Excellent food, plenty of choice. Bit heavy on the prices of a small glass of wine! Will certainly continue to go there in the future."
    dined on 28/01/2014
  • "Online booking was simplicity itself. Staff friendly, engaging, professional and extremely attentive but never intrusive. The food was excellent, well cooked and beautifully presented with quality ingredients. There was barely a wait between courses, but service was not hurried. Particularly liked the Italian and French Cheeseboard options. The wine list was impressive and extensive with a varied range to suit all tastes and pockets. The atmosphere was lovely, the Plough was very busy but it still felt comfortable and intimate. This was our first visit. It was thoroughly enjoyable and we certainly plan to return."
    dined on 25/01/2014
  • "This was our favourite ever place to eat until a very standard un appetising meal last year. We decided to give it another go and I'm so glad we did. The food and wine were all delicious. I had mussels to start and liver for main. Really lovely food, great service. Will definitely be eating at the plough a lot more."
    dined on 23/01/2014
  • "Enjoyed lunch with my parents to clebrate my birthday. It felt really special. Service was excellent and staff friendly and helpful. Food as delicious and beautifully presented as always."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "Dinner for the four of us on the January special menu was outstanding value. Starter, main and desert for £22 and a reasonable drinks bill made a really good value evening. The Plough aims to serve really good honest pub food rather than pretentious gastro pub food. So the menu is varied, imaginative and approachable and is served nicely on the plate without being too pretty and prissie. I think they get it just right and the flavours are always really good with the right seasoning and the right balance of jus to food - to the last mouthful. Oh, and the home made bread on the table is just so tasty. I would highly recommend trying the Plough. For the Bedfordshire area, this is one of the places we return to time and again."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "This was probably our fourth visit to the Plough and unfortunately our experience this time did not match previous visits. The service was quite slow with one of the staff seemingly quite inexperienced and cack-handed when it came to wiping the table between courses (especially as this was unnecessary). Two of us had the much-anticipated roast beef, but this was quite tasteless and the vegetables rather uninspiring. My husband had the gnocchi - not much of it and quite dry and tasteless, was his verdict. The Plough does not really have any local competition and so I feel it has rested on its laurels somewhat."
