A word from The Pearson's Arms by Richard Phillips
The Pearson"s Arms is very much a community pub whilst retaining a welcome to tourists and those in search of a great night out; a place where local and seasonal fare are as much of the experience as the proud heritage of the town. The Pearson's Arms is a totally different Richard Phillips experience, but retains the quality, passion, and attentive service for which his restaurants are known. 'We are as passionate about our ales and wines as we are our food offering. I want this to be a real pub atmosphere, somewhere that is the hub of of a great community. A pub is a place to take friends and loved ones for fun and relaxation and we want to install a real community spirit. Our ethos naturally supports local businesses and where possible we always try to use Kent produce and apply the same thinking to our ales and drinks.Continued

  • "Booked for Sunday lunch with friends and received a warm and friendly welcome. Had a seat next to the window with a sea view and received great service without being rushed. Great for a lunchtime catch up with good friends."

  • "amazing food and amazing location right next to the sea, watched sunset whilst eating, very romantic;-)"

  • "We had a table with view of the sea which was amazing and what I wanted. Service was polite and friendly. The food was well presented but lacked flavour and therefore seemed expensive for what it was. Desserts were better though. I had booked for as part of a romantic weekend away but the restaurant is quite noisy so is better suited for small groups perhaps. It was not in anyway a negative experience but the food was unmemorable."

  • "Really enjoyed the Pearson's Arms. The cocktails were well prepared and the food was excellent with a nice choice. The service was also very good with friendly staff. The place was really buzzing so the only observation I would make is that it would not be a quiet candlelit dinner for two type of place, well not on a Saturday night anyway. Highly recommended."

  • "Great food but an even better view out to the sea. Imagine it would be THE place to be during the oyster festival"
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Our small group had a lovely time. The food was good but over-priced for both the quality of the food and the venue. I would expect to pay this level of pricing at a much nicer establishment in London."

  • "We had an excellent Sunday lunch at Pearson's which continues to deliver great food, friendly service, beach view, lively atmosphere and superb value. I do not hesitate to recommend strongly."

  • "We had a meal here on a Friday afternoon, we were seated upstairs, the first thing you notice is the very small and uncomfortable chairs, they appear to be old school or church chairs, they do not encourage you to stay long. The service was dreadful, our " waiter" was just not paying attention to us I had to get up three times to ask him for service, the bread arrived with our starter, the wine did not turn up etc etc. The good news is that the food was exallent and with some attention to the small details this could be a very good venue, but for now we won't be rushing back."

  • "Booking is definitely advisable. You wouldn't stand a chance getting a table at Pearsons on a weekend if you walked in. The ambience of the place is great, a relaxed and friendly feel. The service was outstanding. The head waiter went out of his way for us. At the beginning of our meal we asked about a particular dessert which he said they had run out of moments earlier. He then came back a few mintutes later saying the chef would make up some more of us and that they sound be ready by the time we ordered! 3 out of the 4 of us happily ate a lovely tarte tatin. The rest of the meal was better than average but not amazing. Portions were a little on the small side for the price but this didn't spoil our overall experience."

  • "Lovely relaxed atmosphere, great friendly service, & fantastic food. Would recommend to all, lovely place for couples as well as group dinners. Fantastic value. We changed our booking last minute & the restaurant were very accommodating."

  • "The food was fine although i would have liked more vegetarian options. The main course was very traditional and meat/fish orientated. I do have a problem with menus that have elaborate descriptions of the components of a dish that on the plate end up as a drizzle or smear of puree. i can never remember what its supposed to be."
    dined on 26/03/2014
  • "Live music, amazing views of the sea, really good food. A little more of sea food options on the menu would be welcome."

  • "We decided on The Pearson's Arms after a recommendation from a friend. We were not disappointed. Whilst it was a beautiful day in Whitstable this was the icing on the cake due to the friendliness and attention from the staff and the quality of the food. The decor is perfect for the location and it retains a sense of comfort without loosing a feel of quality and professional touches. The food selection was perfect and presentation was also first class. We are very much looking forward to revisiting ASAP!"

  • "Have been to the Pearson's Arms before so we knew its food was good. As before we asked for a table at the window so we could see the wonderful views. Its a laybacked pub with great food and service what more could you ask for. They are dogfriendly to so we are taking our dog with us next time."

  • "Pesrsons Arms was s great choice for a get together with a couple of friends. Tucked away in Whitstable near the harbour the downstairs bar offers a warm cosy welcome as you enter. The upstairs restaurant has a lovely rustic, shabby chic atmosphere & some tables offer fantastic views across the beach to the sea. My girlfriends chose from the everyday menu; one had fish which she said was beautiful & the other opted for liver; also a hit. I had three courses from the lunch menu: goats curd, sea bream and a cheese platter (the latter carried a small supplement) which was not only absolutely superb but amazing value. I will return very soon!"

  • "We had a lovely meal with my elderly parents. Food and service were excellent. The only down side was 3 flights of stairs down to the loo for my disabled Dad which was awful although everyone was very helpful. Will definitely return again though but ask for a table downstairs."

  • "There has been a change in chef and food is now very disappointing. I ordered a medium rare cheese burger, the cheese was so burnt it was brittle and I had to remove it as was not edible, the burger was well done and grey. I complained and they removed the charge for the cheese!!! A friend dined there the following day and had burger and said it was worst burger they had too, limp lettuce, over cooked meat. He also eats there regularly ordering burgers and was totally disappointed. I shall not being eating there again, shame as really liked it."

  • "Superb food, quaint surroundings, polite attentive service. Good views out to the sea, tucked away in Whitstable by the harbour."

  • "An excellent meal and well worth the money. Which wasn't too bad."
    dined on 23/02/2014
  • "We had to wait an hour for the main course with no bread or an offer of an apology. Shame the service was missing as when the food did arrive it was very good."
    dined on 17/02/2014
  • "Real shame, as the food was good but lukewarm. my husbands meal was cold, he did ask for it to be heated but it came back lukewarm."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "We had heard excellent reviews for this restaurant But sadly these were not as good as hoped. The food was not value for money, we found the portion sizes to be small for the price (and we are not very big eaters!!). This restaurant had a reputation for its fish and shell fish. A small amount of both available on the menu. We both had a steak main course which was very tasty but came with 5 chips!!!! Dessert was apple tart tartin - if you could find any apple you were lucky! The table we sat at was sticky and the restaurant was chilly. We left still feeling hungry and very disappointed at a very expensive meal."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "We found the service a little slow but otherwise efficient and courteous. The quality of the beef was disappointing but we recognise that is sometimes out of your control. Everything else was enjoyable."

  • "We visited Pearsons on Saturday 15th February 2014, and really enjoyed our evening. There is a good food choice. The staff are attentive and friendly. I had the venison wrapped in savoy cabbage for starter, they were very tasty. The halibut I had for main was plentiful, perfectly cooked and well presented. The rice pudding for dessert was delicious, my Husband had jerusalem artichoke soup for starter and haddock for main - he was really pleased with both. His delicious dark chocolate pave for dessert was excellent- I must order that next time! This is definitely worth a second visit."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "This pub has loads of character, sea views, and a nice decor. The service was friendly and attentive. However, the food was a major dissapointment. My partner and I both ordered a scallop starter; the scallops were fine but let down by the tomato, chickpea and chorizo stew which would was incredibly acidic. My main of fillet steak was served on a slate platter which is unappealing to eat off. A plain white plate is appropriate. My twice cooked chips were cold. My partner had halibut, which he said was overcooked, accompanied by mussels which he said tasted odd. Later that night he came down with food poisoning. This could be a great restaurant but the food was really not special, and some aspects unaccetable."
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "Lovely pub overlooking the sea (from upstairs) nice menu which was good value with the 2 or 3 course options. We put a note on the booking that one of us was vegetarian and the waitress made a point of talking this through and adjusting dishes to suit, which was excellent. Thouroughly recomend"

  • "A disappointing visit food-wise this time. The staff as always were superb. There was a warm welcome from the bar staff, manager and waiting staff. We were looked after exceptionally well. The standard of food however is not as exceptional as previous visits. The price has increased considerably which is such a pity. Ambience is still great."

  • "A delightful pub/restaurant in an ideal location. Varied menu to sort all tastes. Fresh food served elegantly. Ambience was lovely; ideal winter & summer pub. We had a table upstairs & could just hear the live band downstairs. A great night!!"
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "Fabulous pub with delicious food in a great location. Use of local and seasonal produce was obvious. Pearsons could cater better for vegetarians, though as there was no choice on the Winter Menu main course and we had a veggie dining with us. Only one slight negative remark - there was far too much salt in the salted caramel ice-cream. We eat at quite a few of Richard Phillips restaurants and they are all extremely good."
    dined on 04/02/2014
  • "We used a Travelzoo voucher for the meal, a three course dinner for two. With the added bonus that I had a travelzoo discount voucher to make it cheaper still the meal was great value but I would not have paid full price. I found a small piece of cartilage in the starter (Chicken Ballantine)and guinea fowl main course needed more seasoning. The pudding of white chocolate cheesecake was lovely though."
    dined on 31/01/2014
  • "Our second visit here for the winter lunch menu. Excellently prepared and presented local produce. We had a window table with good sea views. Friendly staff offer very good service, despite being quite busy. Highly recommended."
    dined on 28/01/2014
  • "Very worthwhile set lunch offer three courses at £35.00 for two persons. Only catch was vegetables (excluding garnishes on main course) and other side dishes extra cost at c.£3.00 each. Good views from 1st floor dining room."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "we booked the table over the internet. lovely table next to the window. if it was daytime I'm sure I would have seen the sea. starters were good, I ordered rib eye and chips for my main after I realised they didn't serve mussels. the steak was great but the chips needed cooking longer. they were still hard in the middle. this was a little disappointing. overall a lovely evening but a little expensive."
    dined on 18/01/2014
  • "Quite overpriced and we felt pretty rushed to order and eat. But generally the food was OK and lovely ambience."
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "Loved this gastro pub. Our table looked out over the sea and with the Isle of Shepley and Southend beyond on the horizon. Our late lunch was accompanied by a fabulous sunset but this did not distract from the lovely food from another of Richard Phillips Kent eateries. Only fault I can find is lack of parking, there is a public carpark next door but full when we arrived (anyone who knows Whitstable will realise that parking always difficult)."

  • "This pub/restaurant is located just off the High Street by the sea wall. Get a window table on the first floor and you have a great view out to sea. Four of us enjoyed a very good meal from the lunch menu - very reasonably priced. Home made soup was excellent, as was the smoked salmon. For mains the slow roast belly of pork and the risotto were divine. Plum cake to follow was almost too good! The wine list is very good (including a very nice rioja). Plus four real ales on tap. Highly recommended"

  • "Enjoyed a 3 course lunch from the set winter menu on Saturday 4th January. Waiter and waitresses were very attentive and checked every course was ok. The food itself was very tasty - perfect sized portion for me for a lunch but I have a feeling some 'bigger appetites' might complain about the sizes... And extremely reasonable for the quality of the dishes. Locally sourced produce making it extra tasty! Filled me up for the rest of the day too and I only needed a light supper that evening. Wine was also excellent and at usual restaurant competitive prices - more than the lunch in fact! Really great afternoon - will come again no doubt about it :-) thank you"

  • "Arms and think it has become a stronger venue since Richard Phillips has taken the helm. Our New Year's Day lunch was such a good idea. Our party was well looked after. I found the manager very hospitable as he had gone out of his way to make sure our three table were sitting together. The restaurant was very very busy but this only added to the atmosphere and the food service didn't suffer. Our party had crab terrine (mmm...excellent), fried oysters (a bit gritty) and tempura squid (fat, plump and beautifully cooked) to start followed by pork belly with black pudding and creamy mash (looked small but was very rich and filling - cooked to a high standard) and cod, chips and mushy peas. Children welcome, well received . Highly recommended."
