Diner Reviews
  • "The fish was cooked to perfection and service was very accommodating considering we came with two children who left a bit of a mess."
    dined on 14/04/2014
  • "Was here before Xmas and was great but went for lunch with a friend on Saturday and it was awful. The place was empty and the waitress would only let us sit by the door or next to the toilets, then they had run out of half the wine list and the food was mediocre. Top it all off with zero atmosphere! Will not be back"
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "I've always enjoyed my visits to TORF; must visit more often. The food is always first rate, excelled only, on this occasion, by the superb service!"

  • "my family incuding 2 children loved this restaraunt. food was delicious. service outstanding. a memorable evening"

  • "Good service and good food. Definitely will be back.."

  • "Steak ordered medium rare and arrived looking as if it had come straight from the butcher and hadn't see heat at all Spaghetti vongole - one third of the clams unopened as inedible"
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "I felt for the hilarious name. Never heard before of a gastropub, but it was lovely. The food was great, the setting also. It has the advantages of a good restaurant and the cosy atmosphere of a pub. I will return here"
    dined on 27/03/2014
  • "First visit to this gastro pub for dinner. It has the ambiance of a quality restaurant, very different from the pub downstairs. Food was good, but not amazing. My chicken kiev was moist and crispy but was lacking in garlic. My friend said their fish stew was very tasty, and the ice creams were excellent. The service was friendly and attentive. Price list was 'reassuringly expensive' - i.e. expensive for a pub restaurant but not completely outrageous."

  • "Always a safe bet when meeting friends who are visiting London."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Sunday lunch for two. Amazing rib of beef. Pretty good lamb. Very well prepared and the rest of the courses top notch too. Decent wine list and OK value overall - but it is Mayfair remember. Really friendly service."
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "No one ever imagines that there could be such a lovely restaurant nestled above a bustling gastro pub. Makes the decision of where to meet before supper so much easier! Only a short walk from Green Park and the bars of Mayfair makes for a great starting point for your evening. A small menu but always done well."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "Great service, a warm and friendly atmosphere and very tasty food. I'll be back."
    dined on 10/03/2014
  • "There is an exciting selection of dishes which can satisfy even those with an appetite for something 'unusual'. The food however is average and not always cooked to specification (steak ordered medium - served well done). The staff are friendly but don't expect them to anticipate your needs or remember what you said five minutes ago. We explained three times that one of our friends was arriving 15 minutes later, and even though we'd ordered aperitifs, two different staff kept asking to take our order. The wine list is good but most of the reds are overpriced. A bottle of Barolo would force most people to get a second mortgage!"

  • "Enjoyable evening. The food is always of high-quality."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "Where pub culture meets haute cuisine. Truly delicious dishes, busy bar downstairs and more official restaurant at the 1st floor very friendly staff, great atmosphere, reasonable (for Mayfair) prices."
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "Nice busy pub downstairs, upstairs restaurant was quieter - the food was lovely. Service good too and prices were reasonable."
    dined on 31/01/2014
  • "An absolute stand by for a long lunch. Good quality unpretentious grub and an excellent wine list."
    dined on 18/01/2014
  • "I had been to the Only Running Footman a number of times before and had also eaten in the downstairs bar. When I came in on the night of my booking it was very busy in the bar area and I was afraid that we would have to spend the night shouting at each other over dinner. So I was very pleasantly surprised when they referred me to the upstairs dining room which is lovely and very classy. And so nice and peaceful! Dining is good here but not outstanding - though it remains one of my favourite options is very expensive (and often overpriced) Mayfair."
    dined on 15/01/2014
  • "Overall fairly unremarkable pub food. Nothing bad, but nothing special. However, the price does not reflect this. So essentially this is an over priced pub."
    dined on 14/01/2014
  • "We had an excellent brunch at the Only Running Footman. Will be back to try lunch!"

  • "Had a nice lunch with a friend here this week. We both had salads which were a nice size and reasonabley priced."

  • "One of several visits to the ONLY. Top notch as ever. Some old familiar dishes done well and a partridge special was delicious!"

  • "Decided to revisit an old favourite for a pre Christmas catch up with friends. When we arrived at 7pm we were the only party in the restaurant but it soon filled up creating a nice atmosphere. Service was quick & efficient. We were all very happy with our food choices, including the selection of cheeses for afters (we had to keep asking for more bread to go with this but this was brought quickly and without quibble). Not a cheap place to eat, but we were happy to pay the £64 per head bill for threee courses each, pre dinner drinks & plentiful wine. Will definitely keep this one on the list for future visits."
    dined on 20/12/2013
  • "Enjoyed a lovely New Year's Eve dinner. The food was excellent and the service friendly and attentive. The restaurant was cozy and romantic. The downstairs pub was lively and fun but being separate from the upstairs restaurant did not interfere with the quieter ambience of the restaurant. I highly recommend The Only Running Footman!"

  • "had a very nice meal with great variety of well cooked dishes, all the usual beers on tap and a buzzy atmosphere. Would definitely go back"
    dined on 27/12/2013
  • "We visited 'The Only Running Footman' for Sunday Lunch prior to spending the afternoon at The Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park with our granddaughter. We had prebooked, so the staff were expecting us and saw us straight to out seats in the downstairs bar. Our table was bigger that necessary which was a nice touch - no squeezing on to a table for two near the toilets like on other establishments for a change! The staff were really attentive without being in our faces, and our Sunday roasts were very tasty and included all the trimmings. Excellent wine list as well. We would thoroughly recommend this pub and are intending to return to it again and again. Our visit really put us in the Christmas spirit. Fab!"
    dined on 15/12/2013
  • "We had a fabulous lunch at the The Only Running Footman at the beginning of December. Great food and service- would especially recommend the crispy squid/calamari - probably the best I've had! Would definitely recommend."
    dined on 07/12/2013
  • "A very nice restaurant or rather a gastropub with excellent service. We went there with a colleague and the staff were really helpful. I was expecting a bit more from the cuisine but overall we had a nice dinner."
    dined on 13/12/2013
  • "One of my favourite places in London. Great pub and an excellent restaurant."
    dined on 10/12/2013
  • "Booked for 6.30 on a Tuesday for an early business dinner, so not surprising that we were the only 4 there for the first 30 or 40 mins. Nonetheless, it's not huge place, so it didn't feel strange. Attentive [dedicated!] service and a menu with many tempting options, including daily specials. We all enjoyed the food and wine, although I'm not sure that I'd have been so happy with the bill if I was paying out of my own pocket."
    dined on 19/11/2013
  • "I've been to The footman half a dozen times this year - it's consistently good service - the food is fine and the wines and beers in the right range It's a solid selction for a less formal lunch"
    dined on 15/11/2013
  • "We were very pleased to find TORF in our hotel's neighborhood. We enjoyed their Sunday roast so much that we returned on Monday for a pre theatre meal. With we had a TORF in San Francisco."
    dined on 03/11/2013
  • "The Only Running Footman was a great place to go for dinner on a Friday night. My steak was fantastic."
    dined on 19/10/2013
  • "Great good and really busy pub downstairs. Menu is quite American rather than British. Service is just standard."
    dined on 24/10/2013
  • "Some of the best calamari I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy - only minor niggle was that the restaurant was so dark that we could barely read the menu!"
    dined on 17/10/2013
  • "5 of us attended for a business lunch. I'd only booked for 4, a mistake that the staff took in their stride and rectified. Spoilt for choice regarding lunch options. All dishes our party tried were very good. Given the location, good value for money too. Will definitely go back!"
    dined on 15/10/2013
  • "I noted from other reviews the comments about the proximity of the tables, but also that it was an intimate venue with excellent food. My partner and I brought my mother and while the food was indeed excellent, the fact there were two parties in there made it a very loud evening, and certainly not "intimate". It is important to remember this is a pub, which was extremely busy downstairs and also had a function on the floor above, so while the service was excellent and we had a very tasty meal, we didn't hang around due to the acoustics."
    dined on 10/10/2013
  • "I took a colleague to lunch at the Footman - he had a burger with everything and I had the fish stew which was delicious. Service was good and I would definitely go back again but if you want a quiet table, it's best to book upstairs as the tables downstairs can get noisy."
    dined on 09/05/2013
  • "The dining room here is on the first floor of the pub, and is quite formal (starched white tablecloths etc). Staff are very nice, and the food was quite tasty but overall, I found it overpriced for what it was. I had the lamb steak which came with a little bit of watercress/ shaved radish as the accompaniment, and that was just shy of £19. A side of chips - which were really nice - were an extra £3.75. My friend's quiche was pretty sizeable and slightly more reasonable at around £16 but in all honesty, I think prices are on a par with The Wolseley, so if I were in the area again for a business lunch, I'd drop in there instead."
    dined on 06/09/2013
  • "Booked a table for 4 requesting downstairs area. Received a confirmation, but then told on the day they don't take bookings downstairs and had to go upstairs. Went upstairs and got told that they might have space downstairs and to go an ask. Getting the run around was disappointing and staff didn't seem to care. Ended up eating upstairs because I had guests but wouldn't recommend this place. Service was too unhelpful."
