Diner Reviews
  • "Great setting. Gordon Ramsey should be ashamed to be associated with such an establishment which produces such poor quality expensive food. Should have read the reviews before I booked it."

  • "Looking forward to my first Gordon Ramsay restaurant. The food was very good, portions generous, fantastic fish and pork. However, the service was really slow and we felt neglected."

  • "We were a party of 6 and we went to The Narrow for lunch on a Saturday. It was my brother's 30th birthday and the staff were very helpful in making it a special celebration (they gave us the best table overlooking the Thames, and helped with a surprise cake after our meal). The food itself was delicious and very well presented. The only criticism from the party was that the chicken was a little dry without a sauce, however the flavours were good. The staff were polite, attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the fairly laid back atmosphere which was perfect for our celebration."

  • "I have been to The Narrow before for food and drinks, but not since they have refurbished it. It's nice but I think it has lost a bit of its old charm (a bit too white inside). The food however was great. I've not had roast lamb in ages and I fully enjoyed it, cooked to perfection (red in the middle). Portion size was perfect and not to little or too much. My girlfriends chicken was slightly red but as soon as this was pointed out it was cooked from scratch again and the cost deducted from the bill. The second chicken she got was one of the most tasty I have eaten. Overall wonderful food but even better service from the staff. Great evening."

  • "I have recently moved to Limehouse and this was my first time at the Narrow. Food and service were fantasic and the restaurant even accomodated my request for a table in the conservatory. Very pleased."
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "Recently renovated. Very nice ambience inside the conservatory, with views of the river Thames. We arrived 2 hours early for our booked table. But they were more than happy to acomedate us. Service was 5 star quality and was very quick and efficient. Food was very good. With daily specials. Recommend to anyone."

  • "As new locals I was excited to try the place, however it was spoiled by a couple of issues. I think it was a bad day for them so I would love to try it again. Lowlights - bar team had not interaction except with themselves - chicken sent back as was cold, really cold - manager didn't touch table at any point, even when the chicken was sent back. Didn't seem interested - forgot coffee - no one said goodbye as we walked out Highlights - food, once chicken was flashed under the grill - blonde waitress was really sweet and delivered a nice service - venue is beautiful"

  • "First impressions of the Narrow were very good. Friendly staff, great decor and a good menu. However, we waited nearly 40 minutes for our main course to arrive, following a very good starter. After 30 minutes, we asked the waitress where our mains were and she said they were "on the pass and would only be a couple of minutes." It actually took 10 minutes for the food to arrive and when it did, it was luke warm at best. We didn't make a fuss and we were in a rush to go to a concert at the nearby Troxy and didn't have time. Overall, it was a fairly disappointing experience and we certainly won't be returning to The Narrow."
    dined on 24/03/2014
  • "Service was pretty bad in the restaurant. My side dish was forgotten with my meal. My pudding also forgotten, and bought out after the rest of the tables. A number of times we had to chase up our drinks orders. Food was ok, service painfull. Would not go again or recommend. Disappointing."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "We were seated in a very pleasant and spacious area to dine. Our table wasn't quite ready but we weren't in a rush and the only other problem was the service was a little slow to get going as we waited for our drinks order to be taken, apart from that it's a great place by the river and away from the crowds."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "The place looks great now that they renovated it. However, service is lacking; the hostess is nice, but some waiters are clueless; he was referring to his notes several times to remember the 2 specials of the day, but he did not even understand the ingredients."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "I had seen the recent reviews since the refurbishment so wasn't sure what to expect. Not having a comparison of what it was like previously, I can only comment on what exists today and it was a very good experience all round. I booked through toptable and we had a great table, fantastic views. Service was great - very friendly, patient and informative. Food was really good for the price. Would recommend and would eat here again."

  • "Relaxed and tasteful setting with great views of the Thames right outside. Very enjoyable evening and food was well prepared and delicious. Only a single vegetarian main dish was my only disappointment."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "Was impressed with interior of the Narrow. Great ambience and lovely interior. My colleague indicated that it was the best fish and chips she's ever had. Definitely will be back for drinks and dinner."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "I had been wanting to try The Narrow for ages and it did not disappoint. It makes the most of the lovely view over the river. The ambience is great - modern, light, airy - makes you want to come back and spend longer. I only wish it was on our front door. Food was good, service also."
    dined on 20/03/2014
  • "Beautiful location. Candle lit atrium promises to be the most desired place to be when the sunny days arrive. I cannot wait to sit on the couches, sip wine and take in the river breeze along with the stunning views of Canary Wharf. I have enjoyed the wine although the per glass selection was quite limited. It was a pitty we could not order food and sit in the atrium. We would have liked to snack on a board of cheeses during our evening drinks. We have yet to return for the food..."

  • "Once upon the time, there was a pub called the Narrow Boat. Before that, it was the Barley Mow. Nowadays, it's the Narrow. As Gordon Ramsey has stamped his fingerprints all over the pub, so the atmosphere has changed. The old feel of a friendly place where you could pop for a quiet beer has firmly been removed. Instead, what we have is a great eatery with some amazing foods. The level of cooking has continued to sky rocket (however I confess I miss the mustard sausage starter which has disappeared), with some truly superb dishes. The pub has lost it's character, there's no denying that, but if you're a food lover, I'd challenge you to find fault with their superb menu. Go for the food, not for the atmosphere."
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "My Girlfriend and I went for Dinner at the Narrow in mid-March. The restaurant had just re-opened after a refurbishment and the new look gave the restaurant a very homely feel to it. The menu had a good variety of dishes, not too many, but all sounding equally delicious. The lamb was excellent and the deserts very tasty. The service could have been better - they forgot about a couple of drinks and then took a long time serving the wine, however we will definitely be going back."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "Lovely atmosphere, and really good service. The best thing is after the meal, that you can relax on a comfortable couch."
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "I used to absolutely rave about this place. You could have a good pint of ale in the front end and then head through the back and eat some great food with a good glass of Malbec. Now the character has died. This was a terrible refurb, they seem to have attempted to turn it into a pretentious wine bar. The food is still very good, as is the service but I struggled to enjoy the atmosphere. I have eaten here frequently over the last couple of years but I'm afraid that is going to change. Why Gordon, did you have to turn your lovely pub resteraunt into the rest of London?"
    dined on 13/03/2014
  • "Decided to eat at 8:40pm booked on top table for 9! got table, had drink at bar then 3 courses each with drinks, nice food nice service, nice evening, had the cod and chorizo for main seriously good the chorizo was tasty the fish cooked to perfection, the sticky toffee with salted caramel ice cream was lovely"
    dined on 14/03/2014
  • "We've been here previously and had a great meal. Sunday lunch however was no more than average. I can't say much more - average starters, average mains, average deserts - there was just nothing special about it at all which is disappointing given that its a Ramsay establishment - you would get the same quality at any reasonable pub doing fresh food."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "Catch this place on a gorgeous day it really is somewhere nice to enjoy with the family with its well placed location. Very good food but felt that the service could have been more attentive. Our waitor seemed to struggle and at times came across slightly rude. Our requests were quite easy and nothing to demanding it just felt that the waitor might been having an off day when it didn't seem to be overally busy. As a result of below par service I felt the £50 service charge was not reflective of the service i have come to expect in Gordon Ramsays resturants which are normally consistently excellent.."
    dined on 09/03/2014
  • "Lovely setting, with a full river view sitting in the conservatory area. The service was friendly and prompt. We enjoyed the recommended white wine, but were surprised that the waitress implied the two cheaper bottles were unpleasant for drinking. On starters, the crayfish was very tasty. Mains: salmon and chicken were enjoyed, but the steak was disappointing - also an ordering confusion, since the lamb on the menu is described as 'rump'. Puddings - an excellent sticky toffee pudding and salted caramel ice cream. Problems with the bill: puddings wrongly priced and the steak/lamb confusion again. The optional service charge was removed in response to the errors. Any recommendation to a friend would come with the reservations outlined above."

  • "Dinner was nice although my wife is pregnant so was limited to her choices. The service was good. The choice of ale was OK but it was served a glass which was 2/3 of a pint which was disappointing considering it was £4. We were also not offered any water with our meal. We will be going back as over all we had a lovely evening. And apart from the really small things that i mentioned we had a lovely time. Cheers"

  • "Ate here for a sunday lunch for the first time, Lovely venue with a couple of nice Gin and tonics before being taken to our table. Myself and my guest had the tiger prawns to start, which were overcooked and powdery, and nothing special except for being expensive! Then we both had a roast, me having the beef and her the pork, it was all ok, but certainlly not amazing! Beef flavoursome but tough and veg under seasoned. and yorkie puddings that looked bought in and were so crisp you could hardly cut into it. Desserts menu was a real let down, with there being no chocolate option!! No chocolate on a dessert menu is criminal! Decided to give desserts a miss, but instead had 2 very nice dessert cocktails instead. Would return in the summer!!"

  • "Great space, fantastic staff, helpful, friendly. But hamburger for £15, wine at average £7 a glass, and mussels that we had to send back because they were so tiny. The staff were AMAZING, though, friendly, apologetic (including the chef who sent us more mussels to try to make up for it), but just felt I had to post that this place is coasting on GR's name and it could be so much better. C'mon, we want it to work, but we won't be back until we hear otherwise. Good luck."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "Great views from the conservatory. Menu was fine, but not especially exciting. Dishes were well executed. Had better bread from Sainsburys! Is a nice place with sweet service, but not doing anything groundbreaking, and not worth travelling to unless in the area already!"
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "We were given a lovely table on the patio with a beautiful view. It was actually really sunny that day so the patio was nice and warm! The portobello mushroom and the chicory/stilton starters are amazing, the bread is really nice too. Everything about the roast was tasty and the fish&chips was very good - especially the chips and the mushy peas, I have actually had better fish on the coast but it was good for London! We shared a sticky toffee pudding and the most incredible ice-cream. The waitress surprised us with an extra scoop of ice-cream and a candle for my boyfriend's birthday, we thought that was very sweet of them ;) This three course meal for two, with an apéritif and a glass of wine each was £95, so pretty good value!"
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "The food was lovely but service very poor and slow . We had to ask for lunch menu that we saw on line , we were told there wasn't one. Then was given it five mins later . No salt and pepper on table , not asked if everything ok or if needed anything. Such a shame as was highly recommended."
    dined on 17/02/2014
  • "Food was good, though the menu is limited and 2 of the starters had sold out which didn't leave much choice."
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "Tucked away between Canary Wharf and Limehouse Basin is The Narrow, A small friendly restaurant with fine river views. The staff are warm and welcoming, the bar and dining areas relaxed and decorated to modern neutral tastes. It has a clean modern feel and is clearly popular with Sunday lunchers. Booking is recommended as by 1.30pm it was not quite full. The lunch menu is simple hearty fare served promptly by attentive staff who work efficiently for their guests. At £55 for two with a drink and table water for one course it was good value, and is an excellent choice to while away the hours with a loved one."
    dined on 16/02/2014
  • "Given that I have visited The Narrow on many occasions now, the food and service were disappointing unfortunately. The staff were uninterested and inattentive. The food had far too much salt and the hot dessert was cold. Gordon - you need to pay a visit mate and sort your service and staff..... I never thought I'd utter those words in your presence...."
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "we visited the narrow sat 15/02/14, would i go again? no, we had a better meal experience at weatherspoons!! service was good, food ok, location ok"
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "The food was great, and for the price very reasonable - but the atmosphere and ambience was nil. Perhaps it serves better for a sunny, Sunday afternoon lunch."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "very good staff fast but unhurried, felt welcome nice views of london drinks quite expensive ,nice menu well presented food good to have some parkng spaces , i will go again"

  • "Yummy! I made the mistake of sharing the sticky toffee pudding, but everything was delicious."
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "Sunday lunch was excellent, great slabs of perfectly cooked sirloin and excellent value. But make sure you sit inside if you can. In the extension, sitting next to the glass, it was too cold. I had to wear my coat at the table and my food got cold too quickly"
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "Our experience was marred by the temperature - we were in the conservatory with magnificent river views but boy, was it cold and draughty. The manager said they will be having a refurb including a new conservatory and roof in next few months which can only help. It wasn't particularly cold weather, just windy, hence the draught. We should have asked to move inside. In fact we should have been offered it. In fact they should not have placed us at that table. It's almost as if they were unaware of the poor ambiance."
