The MulroyGood foodFor a lovely meal using seasonal produce and with excellent attention to detail by both owner and staff this restaurant is well worth a visit. Once found you will want to return, which we have done and will certainly do again08/06/2013 00:00:00Excellent food, but priceyWe live close to the Mulroy, but had never been before. We booked at short notice on the basis of their petit menu, without realising that this is a lunch and pre-theatre offering, so we ended up with the standard a la carte. The dining room is attractive, but was largely empty, which reduced the atmosphere somewhat. The gentleman serving us, presumably the proprietor, was pleasant and helpful, but slightly humourless. The food was generally excellent, with the rabbit and lamb dishes worthy of special mention, but the scallops were slightly over-cooked. Portion sizes were small and well-presented, but we didn't feel hungry at the end of the meal. The cost was about £56 per head with tip, including pre-dinner drink and one bottle of wine.05/06/2013 00:00:00A little gemWent here on the recomendation of a "foodie" friend and was not disappointed. The food was delicious and the service faultless. We went at lunchtime and had the shorter menu but the choice was excellent with all tastes catered for.Very good value for money. We will definately return.Only negative point is that access is down a flight of stairs so not suitable for antone with mobility problems.24/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent tasting menuI've been to the Mulroy twice now. Both times had their 5 course tasting menu. Changes every week and is excellent. Can't believe not many people know about this place, it's criminal!14/05/2013 00:00:00LovelyFive of us all thoroughly enjoyed the food, wine and service. Probably our 5th visit!27/04/2013 00:00:00Third VisitThird visit here for dinner with friends. This time very quiet - only one other occupied table? Food and service were excellent, but I again would have preferred an option of a lighter, smaller starter so that I could really appreciate the main course.25/04/2013 00:00:00A little gem, so glad to haveA little gem, so glad to have discovered this place.20/04/2013 00:00:00Great find and top quality foodBooked the Mulroy after reading the good review - very glad I did. The menu is short - choice of 4 starters and 4 mains but the food was excellent - very tasty and a bit different to other restaurants. The pastry on the lemon tart is the best I have ever had.
Great value for the quality of food. Very pleasant service and dining experience.
Would definately recommend.06/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent food and serviceExcellent food and service in lovely surroundings.30/03/2013 00:00:00Excellent findGreat wee find in the West End Edinburgh. A menu that left you spoiled for choice and did not disappoint, reasonably priced with superb service.
Tasteful decor which gave an ambience of elegance without too much formality. Would recommend. for all sorts of occaisions from pre/post theatre to a family meal to celebrate.30/03/2013 00:00:00Good food good serviceVery pleasant evening with good food on the taster menu and very nice wine. It was very cold outside and the restaurant could have been a tad warmer but that is the only critism. R27/03/2013 00:00:00EnjoyMulroys was a very nice experience with good food a most pleasant surrounding and very amenable staff. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to those who like the finer dining experience.23/03/2013 00:00:00RelaxedHad a lovely evening in The Mulroy, the food was delicious with lots of choice on the set menu. Scallops for starter were beautiful. Had to share two desserts between us as couldn't choose. The service was friendly without being intrusive and the staff were delightful. This was a very rare baby-free night out for us and we wanted a treat. We certainly weren't disappointed.16/03/2013 00:00:00A lovely mealReturned to very high standard of service and food after a less than perfect meal two weeks earlier. Knowledgeable, professional, friendly staff. Good ambience, intimate restaurant, hence 5th visit.09/03/2013 00:00:00Lovely food beautifully preparedLovely food beautifully prepared and presented.
Service helpful, informative, understated, respectful, cheerful and efficient.
The experience lived up to my expectations.
A most enjoyable midweek lunch06/03/2013 00:00:00My first visit but certainlyMy first visit but certainly not my last. A most enjoyable experience.05/03/2013 00:00:00FantasticWent for a cosy meal with friends to celebrate a birthday. Service was personal and made the occasion very special. We had the tasting menu and 2 of the courses were 2 of the best I've ever had- crispy sea bass with perfect complementing flavours- unusual but not for the sake of it, really fabulous balanced dishes packed with flavours and textures. I would strongly recommend this for those who like their food.26/02/2013 00:00:00Amazing lunchA friend, visiting from out of town, and I, had the Petit Menu for lunch. An excellent deal and the food was fantastic. A real treat, would wholeheartedly recommend.22/02/2013 00:00:00Great experienceThe Mulroy is in a basement of quite a trendy little street in the New town. On a freezing cold night we were warmly welcomed and allowed to move to a lovely window table in the smaller room adjacent to the main restaurant, which itself is quite intimate. The food was superb with a delicious amuse bouche to start and beautifully prepared courses to follow. A tad on the expensive side but well worth it and it finished off our stay in Edinburgh very well indeed.21/02/2013 00:00:00Very very goodWe did the taster menu which was expensive at £50 + £35 for taster wine (per person) but was very very good food.
The restaurant had the feel of an old house dining room and was comfortable and relaxed.
We will be going back.15/02/2013 00:00:00Perfect for a special occasionWe chose The Mulroy on learning that its head chef formerly held that position at the much-missed Atrium, and were delighted to see its old approach of serving truly excellent food, that manages to be innovative and sophisticated without crossing the line into being overly elaborate. We went for the five-course tasting menu which was superb: every course had something about it that was unusual but not "chefy" for its own sake. The restaurant provides an elegant setting for the food - think Georgian townhouse - and each course was brought to our table and described by a proprietor rightly proud of his establishment. I did raise an eyebrow on seeing the bill - hence the missing fifth star - so one for the special occasions only, perhaps.15/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent service and food.Excellent service and food. Had the tasting menu which was truly excellent.25/01/2013 16:00:00Fantastic foodWhere's the Michelin star?! The food's good enough! Went for my husband's birthday on recommendation from a couple of friends, and we weren't disappointed! We'll be back.25/01/2013 16:00:00Twice as niceCannot fault this restaurant. I first visited for an evening meal as an end of year celebration with friends and had a perfect evening. The food is exemplary (I have had food of this quality in Michelin starred premises), with lovely little 'extras' to whet the appetite, lovely home made breads and really delicious hand made petit four with coffee. Extremely good value.
As is the set price lunch I recently enjoyed with friends - friendly service and despite the fact that we began a little late and stayed on way after the other diners had left, we never felt hurried. Great hospitality.18/01/2013 16:00:00fantastic valueafter reading reviews online decided to eat at the Mulroy on Saturday 12th. my wife and I were not disappointed as the whole experience surpassed our expecrations. we will definitely be returning.11/01/2013 16:00:00Amazing valueFive people, aperitifs, two bottles of wine (at the top end of their wine list), three great courses, £40 per head! Superb food and fantastic value. All those great reviews are true.28/12/2012 16:00:00ExcellentService was outstanding, quality never seen before...blown away really...26/12/2012 16:00:00My third visit to the marvellousMy third visit to the marvellous Mulroy. We took our foodie friends who were visiting from Cornwall. They absolutely loved it. This place is a little over a year old and the food is outstanding. I heard recently that Edinburgh has more Michelin starred restaurants outside of London than any other city in the UK. This place deserves to be on that list. Michelin inspectors and diners alike – go there now!14/12/2012 16:00:00We recently had a superb eveningWe recently had a superb evening at the Mulroy, we opted for the tasting menu with matching wines which turned out to be an excellent choice. We both thought the food and the service was outstanding. I did note that the owner, who occasionaly brought plates to/from the table made no extra effort to engage us which surprised me for a small restaurant. It was pricey but no more than you would expect for that level of dining experience.14/12/2012 16:00:00STAR FINDThis place is a great discovery! I got there at noon, 30 minutes early for the lunch I had booked for 8 people and was made most welcome. The staff are friendly and keen and look very smart and clean in their distinctive uniform. The menu was not grossly extensive but ample choice was on offer. Dishes were not too large and the food was exceptionally flavourful. The restaurant was spotless and un-cramped. We had a dining room to ourselves that could have coped with 12.
With drinks and wine (4 bottles) and coffees/tea and plentiful petit fours and on average 2.5 courses the bill was £300 with a tip.
The service was very good. Toilets are exceptionally clean. Go and see for yourselves.23/11/2012 00:00:00Fantastic venue! Was in Edinburgh for the weekend and booked this restaurant via Toptable. Wow! One of the highlights of the weekend. Excellent food, fantastic service and beautiful location. The Toptable deal made it amazing value. If I lived near Edinburgh, I would go on a regular basis (our friends who came with use live near Edinburgh and said they would definitely go back). Looking forward to my next Edinburgh trip!19/10/2012 00:00:00Lower ground floor in westLower ground floor in west end, dining room split into 3 smaller linked rooms. Service good and attentive, food excellent on a small well chosen menu. Lamb was exceptional on our visit.13/09/2012 16:00:00Lovely meal from the PetitLovely meal from the Petit Menu.
