Special thanks to a fantastic sheff, It was a very pleasent surprise of a food concept changes made by him..Presentation is unbelievably good! Great to have more "fusion" options rather than just classics..Prawn coctail, Asian Monkfish, scallops, and even cod and chips are just perfection!!

Food good quality, well presented we had sharing starters plenty to go round, Mains I had trio of pork , spinach and mash , which was really tasty and piping hot. my husband had beef Wellington , fillet looked tender. our daughters said their chicken dishes were excellent with just the right amount. we finished with the 4 shared desserts good value and very tasty especially the apple strudel tart. coffee bottle of rose. total £125.00 not bad value seen as high quality of food and service.05/04/2013 00:00:00brillWe had a meal here to celebrate our 30th wedding aniversary, its the second time we have been here and the food was excellent, the atmosphere was also excellent with Adam P playing next to the bar. When asked for extra gravy was brought another jug within mins and the yorkshire pudding would rival any mothers (sorry mum but it was excellent) it stood out as it was huge! We ordered garlic & herb mushrooms on tast for starter, which was delicious. I had the venison shepherds pie and my husband had the duck. Both meals which were exsquisite. For dessert we both had the chocolate truffle cake which was amazing. During the meal we also ordered a cocktail, a bottle of corona and a pint of Heineken. The total bill for our meal was around £65 which for a full 3 course meal and drinks of this quality is a very fair price.
Our server was Gemma and she was fantastic, we couldn't fault her service at all. I would definitely return and reccommend to anyone!16/03/2013 00:00:00must go5 of us had a weekend away in York. The food was fabulous, I had possibly the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. We had a good table and the ambience is great, feels private but definitely not neglected. The staff we encountered were engaging, knowlegeable, accomodating, attentive and not intrusive at all. The food we all really enjoyed although perhaps I picked wrong with the seabass (food envy maybe of the other dishes) but picked perfect on the pudding! We said we would and were shown to a booth. % minutes later the lady came back appologising that the party ahead of us were taking a long time and asked if she could get us some drinks. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes but this was not a problem as the staff looked after us. When we got our table the waitress who looked after us was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. We had a fantastic meal and a great time. I would have given it 6 stars but the ratings only go up to 5. Unusually for a night like this, we dined as a group of four but this was at no detriment to the service we received. All the food was great and the cocktails we ordered were all fantastic. The mood in the restaurant was set perfectly and the waitress that looked after us was very friendly and attentive. There was a set menu on for the evening which limited choice on food a little but we knew this before going in. The only negative for us was that there was no live music as advertised. To be honest it was one of the main reasons we opted to book the Living Room over other York restaurants, so this was disappointing. Add in a fantastic selection of menu options and a quality drinks selection, and a child's menu too. The food is by we'll prepared and the service prompt and friendly throughout. The restaurant has outdoor space for a great summer option too. It's a really attractive place to be; the bar area was really busy and had a great atmosphere, really reasonable prices too. Dining room was really nice, busy but had a nice buzz about it. Food was really nice, waiting staff very friendly and you could tell that it was a very personal place as lots of people who came in seemed to know other people and this gave it a very friendly feel. There was a band playing too, which were so good, that at first we thought there was a cd playing! Dinner was great value for money as we had a starter, main, dessert, wine and coffee and spent well under £100. We decided to take the kids for Sunday lunch as we had the January discount voucher but were a bit nervous about taking them in. We were given a table overlook the river which was nice as. We had a window table looking over the river in York and the choice of food available was great. We had a 3 course meal and each dish was so good that me and my girlfriend ended up sharing each course between the two of us. The service was friendly and the overall meal was good value for the excellent quality of food.

I booked online and asked if they'd be able to do anything special but didn't hear anything. On arrival we were seated over looking the river and my friend was brought a cocktail as a special treat which was really great they'd taken my request on. January is when we recieve our 50% off vouchers, so we treat ourselves to lift our dampened January spirits. We regularly eat out in York, though our preferred type of restuarant is usually local independants. Chains just don't do it for us. The Living room is different though. It has always been a cut above the other chains, Last Friday, on our visit, we noticed a definite improvement. The staff were quick off the mark, polite, efficient and not in your face. I ordered the black forest ham starter, which was delicious, followed by the duck breast. Beautiful presentation and great flavours. Liz had the scallops with black pudding followed by monkfish. Food was outstanding to good: the fillet steak was slightly overcooked but we are used to ordering 'a point' in France. Beer battered prawns slightly disappointing as the wasabi has been thinned down to a mayonnaise rather than a full blown smidgen of green paste. Having said that, our invited friends said that the sharing deli platter, three way pork, and beef and ale pie were the best meals they had eaten all year. Wine was excellent, reasonably priced and the prosecco aperitifs were very good value, the rose was exceptionally tasteful. Love the edamame beans and the moules mariniere were excellent. service is efficient and attentive. Tables aren't too close together and one doesn't have to walk up or down flights of steps to find the loos.
