A word from The Living Room - Edinburgh
At The Living Room our focus remains on sourcing the best quality ingredients, preparing them simply and delivering bags of flavour and texture on the plate. This is good, honest, robust and stylish food with its origins firmly in the European tradition with international touches. There is nothing frilly or fancy. Small plates - such as wok fried edmame beans or Italian olives – allow for casual snacking while sandwiches and salads enable one-course, easy and casual dining. All-day opening is designed to facilitate easy access and reinforces a core ethos behind The Living Room; you, the customer, is the one empowered to make decisions and we want to make it as easy as possible for you to do that, enjoy it and be comfortable.

  • "I took my girlfriend for a romantic meal on a saturday night. Althought the restaurant was busy we were promptly offered drinks and allowed time to look at the menus. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. They served all meals and drinks without delay but definitely did not rush us. The food was lovely. Cooked to perfection"

  • "I would suggest booking, especially if wanting to eat on a Saturday evening. It's very popular. Atmosphere was great. Food was great. Service was great. Really made to feel welcome. And would certainly go back, next time I'm in Edinburgh"

  • "Booked The Living Room for Mother's day this year as I have been a few times before and really liked the food and ambience. Really disappointed in the food. Starters, polenta was very bland, smoked salmon was very fishy. Main course we had the mother's day roast special menu; the veg was okay, but both the pork with crackling was bland and crackling was soft and the roast chicken was undercooked and pink/red at the bone - I didn't eat much of the chicken and when I told the waiter he said he would mention it to the chef - nothing else was heard. We had sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was fantastic - but overall, lunch for 2 adults and a child cost £60+ thought it was a bit steep as the food was really off standards."

  • "Everything was going well, lovely food and nice wine, but after we had finished our main meals the plates were left on the table for over 20mins even tho the restaurant wasn't that busy and the guy serving us walked past at least 6 times! We asked for them to be taken away and were waiting for the dessert menu. Another 15mins and we were still waiting so we asked for the bill which came quite quick but yet again were left waiting to pay. We ended up taking the bill to staff standing at the other end of the restaurant and were asked how our night was to which we were honest. We did get an apology but it doesn't really make us want to rush back any time soon. The staff when we did see them were polite but more attention to all diners needed!"

  • "Both my friend and I are quite fussy eaters but all we ate was as near perfect as it could be! The staff and the service they gave was excellent. Would definitely go back again and would recommend it to anyone. Prices of both food and wine were very affordable."

  • "Had a table for 2 booked for 20:30 on Saturday night, We arrived and were seated at a table that was free? So seated we were, menus were provided and then......nothing, no drinks order no service at all. We asked at about 15 mins and again asked again at 20 and 25 mins by which time still no service so we made to leave. At the exit we informed the manageress? who told us that if we sat again we would be served straight away. Sorry, too little too late. The manageress? then took contact details and ensured us that she would look into this. We then headed to a Nepalese restaurant and had a great service with great food at half the price of a night out. Sorry to all at The Living Room, but lack of service really let this experience down."

  • "2nd time at The Living Room and not disappointed. Food is well presented and delicious. Service was quick and efficient. We were there for a pre-theatre meal, last time was for lunch and both times thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Only one wee complaint that the coffee at the end could have been hotter but we were rushing on by that time so it didn't matter. Definitely recommend it for any meal of the day."

  • "I was here last two years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the upmarket ambiance and food - my most recent visit made me feel like I was in an upscale pub, not a restaurant. Cheesy music, bright lighting and the food was very average. Unfortunately not what I had expected / remembered."

  • "Booked table for 7.30pm; told there were no tables available before that. Arrived 7.15; restaurant virtually empty! Shown to table, had relaxed night, reasonable meal. Service; reasonable, friendly. However; table wasn't given any "dusting down" between servings; empty plates on table after each course. Paid for meal by voucher which covered cost of meal/drinks we had. End of night;I thought wife had cash, she thought I did. Explained to waiter we would go to bank and give him "something" in a few minutes. Went outside to bank, 50m away, but big/boisterous queue.Walked towards next bank, 300m away; confronted by waiter demanding to know where we were going, why had we walked past the bank! Gave no tip!! Spoiled a reasonable night out."

  • "It was quite quiet. The food was very good as usual. Its very handy for the centre and reasonably priced. My only beef was that the curry was too spicy for me, having been reassured by the waiter that it was not."

  • "I booked a table at The Living Room for a pre Rugby meal last weekend. This was for myself, my boss and some clients. We were all really impressed with the food and service. I can't wait to return."

  • "Had a great night in Living Room on Saturday, great atmosphere, good food and excellent service from our attentive Daniel."

  • "Service and customer service atrocious. Would not recommend for any type of dining"

  • "There were issues that made this visit one that we will not repeat. Firstly they had run out of the chicken wings so could not have first choice of starter.Chorizo had to be sent back because what was served was raw and although it could be clearly seen that we had attempted to eat some we were not given a new full portion just what we sent back re-cooked and re-served. Despite the website saying that the restaurant closed at 11pm we were presented with our bill at 9:40 pm without asking for it being told that the restaurant was closed - admittedly the restaurant was quiet but not our fault and we were on holiday. We tought it was awful and did not tip despite the waitress being very pleasant."

  • "Went with a group of 6 friends and food was average. It seemed over priced. Still had a great night and we could have kept the table on later if we wanted to. Went through to the bar area where the live musician played and that ha a great atmosphere to it. Would recommend."

  • "I was away with my daughter for our regular weekends away. We quite often go to the Living Room for a meal when we are away. This is the first time we have tried the Edinburgh one and it didn't disappoint. You are almost guaranteed good food at the Living Room but what shone out at the Edinburgh one was the friendly staff and, considering how busy it was, the excellent service."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "The service at this venue was attentive and polite. A very efficient waitress that clearly knows her job, menu and how to guide a customer with their decision-making process. The tables weren't too close to the neighbouring tables which provided some privacy for conversations. I have now attended the Living Room on 3 occasions. Two times on a Girls weekend visit to Edinburgh and on this latter occasion as a break with my husband. I think this restaurant satisfied both types of bookings."

  • "Have eaten at various Living Room restaurants around the country and food was good as always. But I was most impressed with the service. Our waiter was fantastically attentive and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great evening. Our table was booked after us as it was the busy Valentines weekend but he made sure we had a reserved table in the bar area to move to. Would recommend to anyone."

  • "Myself and three friends dined at The Living Room on Saturday 15th February. We all thoroughly enjoyed the main course and dessert. We felt that we had value for money and the service was excellent and would recommend this venue. We will return when next back in Edinburgh."

  • "This is only the second time I have visited the Livingroom, and it keeps getting better! The first time I was there was in a massive group for a special occasion - staff were lovely and very accommodating. Food was fantastic and no complaints! This time was just as good, however, I was there for a romantic lunch! Food again was amazing, and outstanding! However, it was not as busy as last time (only 5 or 6 tables) and even though the waiter was lovely, he was not always there to ask for more drinks (even when seeing empty glasses, he did not come over to ask if we wanted anymore). But overall, I was very happy with the whole experience! :-) Lovely place and would DEFINITELY recommend for either big occasions or small romantic ones!!"

  • "Had a really enjoyable meal at The Living Room - our waiter Ian was very good and attentative. Love the piano in the background."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "Starters were very good, but a bit mean as no bread supplied with mussels in sauce. My main course was ok, a big chunk pork served on a wooden board (a bit dated) wrong potatoes served, the pork chop was ok, not exactly what I expected. It was served with onions which were dire, think they were called caramelized on the menu, stewed is a better description. My wifes steak was awful, she did not eat most of it, and had the awful onions as well. We did complain about the steak, and they gave us £12 off the bill which was appreciated, but I do not want a discount, I want a nice meal."
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "We booked the Livingroom for Dinner as it has always been good. We where very disappointed. There was only two of us and wanted to just take our time. When we sat down the gent who served us was extremely efficient but kept coming over to ask what we wanted to eat we did say we wanted a bit of time to have a look at the menu but he was quite persistent. I ordered the vegetarian option which was ok and my husband got the curry - he was extremely disappointed, hardly any rice and 4 bits of chicken. We will not be going back again! This is not a cheap place either!"
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "Got the chance of a little afternoon / evening out away from the kids and decided to go for the pre theatre menu. Food was excellent and the guy serving us could not have been more helpful or polite. We will certainly be back again very soon"
    dined on 13/02/2014
  • "Lovely food, lovely ambience - not too romantic if you don't want it to be, I was there for a business meeting and it felt like a good treat, but not too intimate."
    dined on 11/02/2014
  • "A very pleasant, bustling environment let down by mediocre food and a lack of reasonable attention to detail. My wife had fish and chips, with the most desiccated "mushy peas" we have ever seen - clearly under heat for a long time and inedible. I had fillet steak with chips - poorly cooked, tough, and my side order didn't arrive at all. Dessert was serviceable but the lukewarm espresso was watery muck which had to be sent back. Once the waiter knew I was unhappy he just avoided the table. Should be better - similar priced competitors in the same street are doing it better. Poor value for money and a disappointing experience overall. Do not eat here if you enjoy food and like to get what you have ordered!"
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "front of house staff were very pleasant and the food when it arrived was good. However we had to wait an hour after the starter before the main course arrived making us late for our next commitment."
    dined on 08/02/2014
  • "The soup was not warm enough and the right b eye steak was cooked correctly but the taste was disappointing. The meat quality was poor. We sent our espressos back twice as they lacked strength and had no crema on top. Overall the meal was poor"
    dined on 07/02/2014
  • "Haven't eaten here for ages and loved the menu. Somthing for everyone and it was hard to choose what to eat. The food was great and staff friendly if a little busy so sometimes forgetful of cutlery but we had a great time and couldn't complain. We did have a 50% off voucher so pushed the boat out - if we'd not had one it would probably have been expensive for what it was, but it wouldn't put me off going again for a decent business lunch or special occasion when you don't mind spending a little bit more than usual"
    dined on 04/02/2014
  • "Again nice ambience, outstanding, attentive service and amazing tasting food. I love dining at the Living room as it never fails us... We had the 50% off deal and it was well worth it for the savings."

  • "I booked the table for 8.15 and got there early to have a drink first, it was my 4Oth and we actually got engaged that day too, the young lady at the desk gave us a booth table and arranged for us to have champagne on the house-all a lovely touch. My only disappointment was I had looked at the menu first and choose "The Living Room" as they did langoustines with the steaks!!! NOT. I was told that they no longer offer them but I have looked on their web-site and it is still saying you can add them. So to be honest if I knew that before I went I would of cancelled the table. As it was we had a good night but I did want it to be a bit more special as we were also celebrating my 4Oth Birthday and our engagement."
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "Whilst the food was great and good value for money the waiter could not have been less interested in our pressence and we were also surprised to be told on arrival that they needed our table back within 1hr and 45mins! We were not the only ones surprised at this."
    dined on 31/01/2014
  • "Booked a table but had to wait a further 15mins on arrival. One staff member said to hang on a few minutes with no reply. Another said table wasnt ready yet. That was ok. we had a drink at the bar. The food was nice. quite reasonably priced I would say. nice presentation. Service took a while. Had to wait a long time to get a drink. we thought we'd get our order for the next round in but was told by waitress who dropped our drinks off that she doesnt take the orders, which is understandable if she is a runner or whatever, but obviously go and tell the waiter that their table is waiting for a drink. Similar when paying the bill. Nice enough atmosphere tho. Shame service let them down"

  • "service was very slow, 30 mins to get a sharimg plate of bread and olives then main course arrived straight after, they took mains away and then took another 20mins to come back with them. Table was not ready although there was plenty of empty tables - service was really poor and normally good, not the only table to complain either! I am booked again for this Friday night and now having second thoughts as service was really poor!"
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "Unfortunately one meal was sent back as it was not hot. One person was served half her meal and kept waiting for the rest - food was cooling down all the time. Another person waited more than 10 minutes for vinegar. Cant honestly say I would recommend this restaurant re the above."
    dined on 30/01/2014
  • "We were waiting on our drinks for 25 mins when we got seated, we were waiting for 40 mins on our starters, my starter was wrong, we then waited a further 1 hour on the main. The food was cold and overcooked. It was a horrendous night."
