The Jugged HareNot as good as the first timeBut that's always the way isn't it?! Went a couple of weeks ago and it was so good, we couldn't wait to return so we did with friends who haven't been before. I raved about the roast beef so one of my friends and I had it and could barely eat it as it was so fatty. Everything else was excellent though and we certainly didn't go hungry with the abundance of roast potatoes and veg! The manager very kindly gave us complementary desserts.19/05/2013 00:00:00Friendly service, great foodWent for Sunday dinner. Had the Baked lamb bomb, tender and delicious. My husband had roast mutton with all the fixings, all nicely prepared, portions are enormous. Atmosphere casual, but nicely appointed, would go again19/05/2013 00:00:00Good meal, noisy for business lunchReally enjoyed the food, and service was great. Just found it very noisy, which made a business lunch a little difficult.16/05/2013 00:00:00Good food but priceyLovely place, very friendly service and food extremely good. Only slight downer was hearing the chef tell off his junior for putting too many new potatoes into our side order and seeing them being halved in quantity.....down side of being able to view an open pass i guess.
the food is prciey htough, their pre/post theatre set menu is excellent value and by far the best option13/05/2013 00:00:00Very friendly staff with bigVery friendly staff with big portions of food. A great ambience. Thoroughly enjoyed it.13/05/2013 00:00:00Great spot in the heart of the cityFood great. Service great. Only slight downside was that the tables for 2 were very close to each other!10/05/2013 00:00:00Superb experienceHad been to the Jugged Hare twice before but this time was special. It was a goodbye meal with a very dear friend who was moving away from London. Our starters of crab and terrine were outstanding and worked beautifully with the wine we chose. Both our mains of different fish were also very good indeed; good portion size, delightful flavours and well presented. Service knowledgeable through out. Also tried a couple of glasses of their fine wines.
Overall an experience not to be forgotten and one for us to mark a special but sad occasion. Would recommend highly.10/05/2013 00:00:00Sumptious Sunday LunchFabulous food by the cooks at Jugged Hare. Tender roast beef, huge yorkie and the most delicious, crispy roast potatoes. Thoroughly recommend05/05/2013 00:00:00Great Sunday lunch in LondonWe booked a table for 7 to celebrate our parents' special anniversary. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was outstanding - the servers were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. And we loved the atmosphere. The Jugged Hare is a great place to go for Sunday lunch - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.05/05/2013 00:00:00Good little gastropubJugged Hare had a good selection of food and its own beer on tap. All three of us were happy with our three courses, but surprisingly it was the jam sponge that made us really rate it - something very simple was down really well. Would go here again.03/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent experienceWe went here on a Friday night and had an excellent time. All of the food was very good and the portions were neither too big nor too small. Would highly recommend.26/04/2013 00:00:00fantastic food and a great venueone of the nicest steaks I've had in London and the venue was amazing!23/04/2013 00:00:00Excellent!We had a lovely dinner here, ordering a wide variety of different options. The service was excellent and the bill was very reasonable.20/04/2013 00:00:00Great Sunday RoastAlthough the menu is comprehensive and appealing we kept to our decision to have the Sunday Roast. We are looking for the best Sunday Roast in London. It was one of the best we have had. The food quality is excellent and so are the seasoning and cooking skills. The roast beef was delicious and melted in the mouth. Although we are not fans of Yorkshire Pudding these were historic.
Ambience is great and the staff are knowledgeable, attentive and friendly.
There were no downsides to a great experience.14/04/2013 00:00:00My family and I were takenMy family and I were taken to our reserved table straight away. It appeared that we were forgotten about. After more than 20 minutes no one spoke to us. It was not busy at the time either. We stopped someone and after a bit of confusion, were assigned a waiter. Our waitress was lovely and she made up for our having to wait in the beginning. The food was fantastic, we all had the Beef roast. Our waitress recommended a great wine and tasty desserts. Iwould definitely be back. Make sure you reserve your table.07/04/2013 00:00:00Very good selection of goodVery good selection of good quality seasonal food.04/04/2013 00:00:00The IN place in the cityThe Jugged Hare offers not just a great seasonal menu with fantastic game and fish options it's also the buzziest place around. Great atmosphere, every table full all evening right through to 111pm.
The bar is busy with really joyous atmosphere.
And it's next door to the Barbican.
Go!03/04/2013 00:00:00Great winter lunch with clientsI had a great lunch at the Jugged Hare. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was a perfect balance between formal restaurant and airy gastropub. Great for a slightly less formal and relaxed meal with a client.25/03/2013 00:00:00Fantastic!Another visit to The Jugged Hare for Sunday lunch...very successful, excellent food and service particularly our server Anastasia, professional, friendly and great attitude. Highly recommended. Looking forward to our next visit!24/03/2013 00:00:00A great place for a business lunchThe Jugged Hare is a real find. Efficient, unfussy service, an interesting menu and good drinks selection. Price is a bit towards the top end, but is worth it.20/03/2013 00:00:00I can't get enough of this placeIf you like meat, there aren't many places bettering London. Fantastic food, the best gravy ever, wonderful staff who actually let their personalities shine through and a great atmosphere. It's my most visited restaurant in London and it will continue to be!!!14/03/2013 00:00:00Went like a bombBooked a meal with eome friends not realising atthe time of booking it was Mothers Day, so were then suprised to have got a table. Expectations were for it to be busy and as such the service etc affected.
Not a bit whilst busy - not overly, the service and food was excellent, with the Mutton Bomb a highlight. Go again of course we would.10/03/2013 00:00:00DIVINE STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING!! TRY!Low expectations: It's the only place to get some food in the area for MILES if you're going for a matinee at the Barbican on a Saturday or Sunday. Even the Barbican's own in-house restaurant was closed.
Decor not for the faint hearted! Be warned that there will be stuffed animals and pigs heads watching you. That said, I'm a squeamish vegetarian and I managed to get over it quite quickly, as did our 7 year old daughter.
Food was great. Everyone apart from me tried the meat and said it was excellent. My husband shared the pork with his Mum (though both remarked that 3 people could have shared this as the portions were very generous). Everyone's food was excellent and a good value too- £120 for mains and puddings for 4 adults + 1 child.09/03/2013 00:00:00Quick biteWe needed to be in and out quickly in order to get to the theatre. Good advice from the staff ensured that we ordered quickly, ate well and had time to spare.02/03/2013 00:00:00The perfect pre-Barbican treatI enjoyed the sublime, gamey, aromatic jugged hare with perfect mash and greens washed down with a pint of the Jugged Hare IPA; my partner had a thick, perfectly seared rare rump steak with outstanding béarnaise sauce. The duck rillette with broccoli and pickled vegetables to start was mouth-watering, the intense flavours perfectly balanced, the plate was clean in minutes. Service was swift and faultless, environment understated, cosy, and scrupulously clean. Altogether impressive.24/02/2013 00:00:00We enjoyed a wonderful mealWe enjoyed a wonderful meal after attending performance at the Barbican concert hall. The food and ambience were outstanding. The restaurant was very busy with a very good 'buzz' about the restaurant. We particularly appreciated the quality and presentation of food. We will return.
There was one minor negative point, which could be easily rectified; having requested coffee/tea afer dessert, it was brought to the table before dessert. We sent it back. We were then asked if we wanted it with dessert, which we did not.23/02/2013 00:00:00I boar the monk!!!I went there for lunch after a recommendation and was told to order the Venison but they didn't have any. After my initial disappointment I decided on the monk fish tail…. I eat out a lot and often order seafood but that was by a mile the best piece of fish I have had in years - It was divine. I did also have the wild boar & pistachio terrine for starter which was also pretty special - I highly recommend The Jugged Hare as long as you don’t mind taxidermy!!!21/02/2013 00:00:00Jugged hareTweedy old school restaurant serving hearty well cooked traditional food. Service was pleasant and unobtrusive.19/02/2013 00:00:00Great food and good serviceone of few places close to teh city where you can eat game.15/02/2013 00:00:00very friendly, helpful servicevery friendly, helpful service and delicious food and wine. great!14/02/2013 00:00:00super meal again! This is the third meal we have eaten here and it was brilliant again. Despite being a post theatre booking on a busy Valentines evening (the oysters had finished) service was smooth calm and the food was fresh and delicious. There were several specials again - I wish I could eat here every week there is so much to choose from!14/02/2013 00:00:00The best sunday lunch! After a review online, we went to try the Jugged Hare and loved everything about it! The pub has such a great atmosphere, the taxidermy is fabulous, the sunday roast is the best I have had in ages and a fantastic beer selection to finish it off!! We will be back soon if not this week!06/02/2013 00:00:00Alwaygs great for gameThe selection of real food not just repetitive menus makes the Jugged Hare a real treat. Venison, partridge, pheasant plus stunning fresh fish.
A real must for real food fans.05/02/2013 00:00:00Superb food and service!Sunday Lunch can be offered by most, but not to the standard offered at the Jugged Hare.
A beautiful dining room with open kitchen and a fine selection of gourmet food on offer.
The Billingsgate fish pie was beautiful and a change from the usual roast normally the limit of a sunday lunch offering.
The menu was sufficiently varied that you could dine every sunday and select something different each time.
The service was superb, attentive, not overpowering. Highly recommended.03/02/2013 00:00:00Game Specialist Gastro-PubI made a special trip to the Jugged Hare on a London visit and was not disappointed. London prices, to be sure but good country fare, made and served traditionally. It was very busy and loud (midweek evening) and some of the City regulars were a bit drunk and boorish so it isn't for maiden aunts or intimate dinners. Food-wise, go for the wide range of interesting meals as the end result is better at specialists like The Pot Kiln or St John but that said, this is still a great outpost of traditional, rustic British country cooking.30/01/2013 16:00:00Quality never goes out of styleWe booked a table on-line on the wrong evening (my mistake), nevertheless, the lady at the reception sorted us out in a matter of seconds.Pub boasts a warm countryclub decor with a twist (taxidermy, casks..) and a relaxed atmosphere in the middle of "brutalism" heartland. Foodies will not be disappointed, great fish, game & seafood. Portions are huge. Wine is offered by the carafe at incredible value (try the Vin d'Oc both white and red (M). It is the perfect evening out - particularily after a film /exhibition at The Barbican. Mixed crowd, from bohos to families to couples and tables of friends. Everyone seems to agree. It is a gem in the area. Service was impeccable (both bar and restaurant) which, these days is Very Rare. Vive le Hare!24/01/2013 16:00:00When you're in the mood for meat...We had a great meal. All the food and side dishes were well presented, tasted great and is what I think a perfect example of great modern british cooking. Variety of meat is impressive and the game we tried was fresh and well prepared. The only problem was that we feel the price is a little too high for what you get. If you just want a great steak, you can have an even better steak within a 15 minute walk from here for the same money or less. Little extras here quickly stack up on the bill.23/01/2013 00:00:00I am a big fan of the ChiswellI am a big fan of the Chiswell St Dining Rooms so I was keen to try this one and I was not disappointed. The food is heartier, less fine dining but fantastic all the same. It was perfect for Sundfay lunch and I would imagine just as good any time of the day. I will definitely be back.19/01/2013 16:00:00great food; great venueLovely gamey food, with quirky twists.
Went to celebrate a business deal - all 4 of us have diverse tastes and requirements - and all of us were delighted with the food and the attentive service.
Would highly recommend this restaurant, second time I've been and will certainly be going again soon.15/01/2013 16:00:00Good serviceA top venue for an evening meal prior to going to Barbican.04/01/2013 00:00:00Wind downWe booked a new years day late lunch for a party of 8 - first visit for us all as a wind down from teh night before.Whilst the surrounding area was quiet, not unexpected on NYD, the pub itself was vibrant wilth a livley atmosphere coupled with excellent food and service.01/01/2013 00:00:00Oh, meat, I heart youIf you're scouring the menu for vegetarian options (there's one), this might not be your place. A celebration of all things protein, from the eponymous bunny in a jug (cooked in blood with star anise and juniper - rich, deep, complex, delicious) to the rabbit heads mounted on the wall. Staff can discuss food prep and wine list with confident knowledge. Was our last London meal before returning to the US, and one to remember.30/12/2012 16:00:00A delightful find near the BarbicanWe had a super pre-concert meal and enjoyed ourselves so much we went back for dessert afterwards. Highly recommend the jugged hare on the menu and the beef was excellent as well.26/12/2012 16:00:00Such a lovely pubThis is a great pub if you want to have something a bit nicer than your usual pub. Really fantastic food, fab service! Will definitely be going back!22/12/2012 16:00:00Surprising experienceHaving gone to the Jugged Hare with not much expectations but a nice gastropub to gather with kids in London, we were surprised by the high quality creative food together with excelent service and enjoyable ambiance! I would definetly come back and recommend it to my acquaintaces.22/12/2012 16:00:00Jugged Hare at the Jugged HareLet me recommend the fantastic jugged hare at (of course) the Jugged Hare. My colleague ate this whilst I ate a perfectly cooked pheasant. Food and wine list are both great value.17/12/2012 00:00:00Wow what a mealmy friend and I made a booking at the restaurant for pre christmas get together for dinner, and we were certainly not disappointed, the food was great we can highly recommend the pheasant and the cranberry and sherry trifle. Service was brilliant, we did not have to ask anything, it was all taken care of for us with no waiting around. Upon arrival we were told we had the table for 2 1/2 hours, however, when the time came to leave no one asked us to go, we were sitting there happily enjoying the rest of our dessert and coffee, I suspect this is because it was a bit later in the evening and most people had reservations rather than just walking in. I would definately go back and recommend the restaurant to other people.13/12/2012 16:00:00The Jugged HareTip-top venue for carnivores and game lovers. Superbly knowledgeable and efficient staff. Imaginative menu. Handy for the Barbican arts centre. Bar menu also available.10/11/2012 00:00:00excellent menu choices & attentiveexcellent menu choices & attentive service - ideal venue to eat before attending a Barbican event10/11/2012 00:00:00Outstanding British fareThe most British menu around, this thriving restaurant was full at lunch time with business diners. The menu caters for most budgets - we ate for around £50 for 2 but you could have doubled this cost if you went all out.20/09/2012 00:00:00
