A word from The Hinds Head - Bray
We’re located in a listed 15th-century building nestled in the heart of the pretty village of Bray, near Maidenhead in Berkshire. Our ambience is that of a local village pub, offering you a warm welcome, exceptional, friendly service and outstanding food.
Our restaurant menus offer a combination of traditional seasonal cuisine and historic British dishes, all designed by our owner, chef Heston Blumenthal. Heston's quest for excellence in taste and flavour is combined with Head Chef Kevin Love's respect and love of fresh seasonal produce, to create a menu of British favourites in harmony with the building's Tudor origins.
Our bar area is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a light snack, accompanied by locally sourced guest ales and a carefully selected wine list.

  • "My wife and I went for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a nice surprise to receive an anniversary card from the staff and management. The waiter was extremely helpful and friendly."

  • "Posh nosh (fine dining)in comfy pub setting. Reasonably priced. Service outstanding."

  • "We took some visiting friends we ate from the A La carte menu food was very good with intense flavours well presented and prepared. Waiting staff explained dishes and were very helpful to our guest requiring gluten free diet. Took a while to get her gluten free bread and the wrong wine was initially brought to the table. But all in all good value and good food well served. Would certainly return."

  • "This charming, 500+ year old building is worth seeing on its own. The fact that it is home to a divine restaurant makes us all lucky! We enjoyed a fantastic meal and were properly attended to by their marvelous staff! Worth the trip!"

  • "Took 4 friends as a special treat, just moved to area & thought this would be a fabulous welcome to neighbourhood ! what a joke !! though at the price no one was laughing - if this is Michelin star then I'm a monkeys uncle - bog standard gastro pub fare, overly salted, inefficient tunnel vision staff - nice country pub but there are innumerable nice country pubs serving equally good if not better fare - I can think of many I have enjoyed more !! & the price - certainly not based on food quality must be based on ego then - nearly 500 for 6 people - we only had one bottle of wine as 3 drivers - it was embarrassingly poor - we would have done better by getting some microwaveable food from M&S - this was truly mediocre - we will not be back"

  • "We had lunch at the Hinds Head to celebrate a birthday. The food was all excellent, without exception: beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and portion sizes that were neither too small or too big. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing and special care was taken with a food allergy that one of us had. This is a pub, albeit a very nice pub, and it is expensive for a pub, but it is worth that bit extra for such an enjoyable experience. We will certainly go again!"

  • "I used to dine here quite regularly, but haven't been for a while. Food is still excellent, old favourites still on the menu and a few new ones. Other diners can be a little dry which can make the ambience a little quiet but we made up for that and hats off to our waitress Amber who joined and tolerated our boyish banter. Still one of my favourites!"

  • "We visited the Hinds Head for an anniversary lunch. I have previously visited Heston's Fat Duck a few years ago and to this day it is still the most incredible meal I've ever had. The Hind's Head is very casual but with the same level of service. I ordered a sweetshop cocktail as we waited for our table and was impressed by the level of detail - the chopped strawberrys and the paper straw. The food was amazing, the highlight was definitely our main courses (Steak & pigeon) as the sauces were so deep in flavour. We were even given an anniversary card to take away with us. I'd highly recommend for any special occasion or if you fancy a really great meal!"

  • "We went to the Hinds Head to celebrate my dads 65th Birthday. A lovely warm greeting and shown to our table my dad was presented with a Birthday Card. I'm coeliac and was presented with my own menu which was carefully explained by our fantastic waiter Daniel. The food was delicious - I'm just sad we were all too full to be able to even think about pudding! I wouldn't hesitate to return to The Hinds Head or recommend it."

  • "A beautiful setting, the building is a jewel - ask for a table in the Vicar of Bray's bedroom! The food is very much up to the desired standard, and is stimulating to the food-lover's mind as well as palate. The tenderest snails I have ever eaten, a ham hock terrine which was essence of ham and a throwback to real terrines with pretty things set in a flavoursome matrix. The pigeon was cooked to perfection, and the parsley root purée a joy.We felt there was too much smoked pollock in the fish pie and not enough salmon (both were excellent individually); the occasional prawn was irrelevant. The highlight? The chips. You have to go, just for the chips. The regret? WHY did I not order the quaking pudding? Oh well, I'll just have to go back..."

  • "Recently went there for lunch, exceeded my expectations , food was as amazingly good, great service, great wine list ! Top food and very reasonably priced :)) PS - they serve old monk rum in the bar ( which is the best Indian rum )"

  • "4 of us came for lunch to celebrate my wifes birthday & mothers day. Even though we were a little late this did not detract fromthe welcome we received We enjoyed the food in particular my fish pie though some of the main courses were a little pricey. The service was efficient & discreet though it might have been nicer to be placed downstairs. The puddings were also excellent . A most agreeable afternoon"

  • "We had a wonderful evening meal at the Hindes Head, food was excellant, the atmoshere was very cosy and welcoming, the waiter was very attentive and friendly and new what he was talking about when asked about the menu. All in all it was a great experiance and would recommend the Hindes Head to our friends and family and intend to return again soon to try more delicious receipes. I would also like the to add that the food was great value for money as we did expect the bill to be more than it was for the excellant food we had. Cant wait to return."

  • "I took my mum here for Mother's Day and we had a wonderful time. It was our second time dining here and it was a delight, the service was friendly but not smothering and there's a really nice relaxed atmosphere. The stand out dishes have to be the venison starter, fish pie (I didn't order this and two days later, still regret it!) and the quaking pudding. It's as exciting to taste as it sounds."

  • "Saturday lunch with 3 people. One of our party was 90. We were initially due to be seated upstairs, but these were not suitable stairs for a 90 year-old. We were quickly re-seated downstairs with minimal fuss. This did mean that we were sitting with a few children but they were all well behaved and well looked after by the waiting staff. Our waiting team was well organised and attentive without being annoying. The food was exquisite. The gin and tonic menu was also a very welcome surprise. Our party made it through 4 of the menu, all unbelievably good. I would definitely recommend eating here, young or old. If you are tall - watch out. LOTS of very low ceilings and beams."

  • "Everything brilliant except upstairs lighting in far room a bit excessive, and walls very bare. Shame, as so much character downstairs and directly at top of the stairs. I'd definitely recommend going for the less usual and more historical dishes."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "Celebrating my son's 18th birthday we were made to feel very welcome - he was even given a birthday card which was a thoughtful touch. The service was superb, staff were attentive and knowledgeable without being over the top. The food was incredible quality. Starters and desserts weren't huge, but I like that, it was plenty and beautifully presented. Main courses were generous and the rib eye steak was the best I've ever had - fabulous flavour and perfectly cooked. The whole family had a great time and loved their meals. I would definitely recommend the Hinds Head and can't wait to go back."

  • "Having read a previous veggie's review I knew to expect limited choice. However, I was pleased that the waiter, Callum, who was very well informed was able to suggest tweaks to the menu to make the meals vegetarian. For example he said they could change the pea and ham soup to pea and mint. I didn't ask for any other suggestions because, having read the menu I was happy with the options and looking forward to the taste sensations!"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Took my mother here for her birthday and was bitterly disappointed I booked using a gift voucher & was restricted to a set menu that was clearly designed for high profit margins instead of a quality customer experience. Starters & desserts were nice enough but over seasoned for our tastes. Perhaps the chef is a smoker? Both main courses were a huge disappointment, poor quality, gristly meat in the shepherd pie & greasy over stewed pork. And to top it off the service was overbearing & indiscreet - to the point that both we could hear the waitresses discussing customers in the kitchen! I would suggest that if an establishment is not prepared to offer the same level of quality and service to all customers they stick to a la carte only"

  • "I went pretty much entirely to complete my set of Heston run eateries, and this was up to the usual standard. It isn't cheap, but I think is just about good value. Nothing has the magic special edge of the Fat Duck or Dinner, but it was never pitched that way. Its all beautifully cooked, although the portion sizes are more 'restaurant' than 'pub'. My dessert was a bit odd but I admire the effort, when many top restaurants play it safe. The drinks list was great fun; there were some cocktails with dried ice etc (obviously). Service was lovely thorough. I came from London to visit. It probably isn't worth it (unless you are a Heston obsessive), but if you are local or on a day trip its a solid choice."

  • "We went for lunch, and it was very good. Surroundings are lovely. Service was good but not great. Food - I was expecting to be wowed, and while it was good, I've been to better - especially locally. We enjoyed lunch, but not sure we would go back. Still going to try the Fat Duck though!"

  • "I got a very welcome smile as soon as I walked in. The ambience of the eating area,is lovely, lighting etc just right. The staff were superb and very friendly, there customer service skills were excellent. I think that the price of the food is rather expensive, very original and well presented, but Hestons restaurants, are not a the lower end of the market!! But I did enjoy the experience."

  • "as one would expect from a Heston place. raw venison divine, the best ever oxtail and kidney pudding gravy unbeatable. a couple of times delivered of the wrong order but service otherwise impeccable"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "The lunch time set menu was excellent value for money and very appetising. Though no vegetarian option on the set menu."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "Delicious as usual. Tried the new pigeon dish for the first time and it was awesome. Wish you got a bit more sauce though - but thats about the nearest I can get to any criticism of the HH. Always great :-)"
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "We arrived early to have a drink at the bar. We were made feel welcome instantly. The drinks were delicious and the atmosphere was fantastic. It was so clean too! We were then taken upstairs for our meal. The food was delicious. The smells and flavours were great. The service was excellent. Chatty and welcoming yet not intrusive. The building is full of character and I enjoyed sitting by the window overlooking the high street. Would I go back? Absolutely. Top marks from me."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "I had wanted to try this pub/restaurant for a while, but was disappointed with the food. Where it is undeniably good, it is rich, overpriced and I feel that pub food should be more ?. Well pub food, with less pretension. And £170 for two !,, my guest enjoyed it but agreed that my version of shepherds pie the night before was worth more. Sorry - prefer the Crown"
    dined on 20/03/2014
  • "The service was very polite and entertaining, and the food was lovely. There weren't many vegetarian options, but we found the meat delicious. The pudding was also good, in addition to the drinks - but it would be nice to have freshly squeezed lemonade, tomato juice and other fresh drinks on the menu instead of bottled ones. You might say that it is a pub, but for the price, we believe that such quality should be improved. The petits fours were a nice touch; the lime gel really cut through the chocolate. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and we are looking forward to returning in the near future."
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "There was a limited menu for the "experience day" offer and we were very disappointed. Besides the scotch egg, the limited selection menu did a poor job highlighting what the hinds head is fabulous for. We've been a few times to the hinds head and loved it each time, but were left utterly disappointed by the experience of the voucher, you don't really save any money and the food available is far from the standard of the normal a la cart menu."
    dined on 17/03/2014
  • "Well we were bowled over the moment we entered the building. All staff we attentive to our every question and need. They knew in advance that it was our anniversary and I thought it was a nice touch to receive a card from them. I am not a big drinker but staff , not just our waiter were extremely helpful in advising what the best cocktail would be. My husband and I do love our food and I must say it surpassed our expectations. I'm normally not a fan of prunes but they have converted me. They were sublime. Now the scotch egg was really something else. I could have eaten 10! Every thing we ate tasted fabulous and we cannot wait till the summer so we can walk into Bray and try more choices on the menu. Love that The Hinds Head is our local now"

  • "I have seen mixed reviews of this place! All I can say is if you didn't like it I guess you may be a food snob! We thought it was fabulous. Excellent food and brilliant service. The tastiest food we have experienced in a while. It was simple and yet very different. I had the most superb steak with a very unusual immensely tasty sauce. It is making my mouth water just thinking about it! Highly recommend!"

  • "Always lovely food and the service is top notch. I discovered Monkey 47 gin this time - AMAZING."
    dined on 26/01/2014
  • "Friendly and knowledgeable staff make the Hinds Head a really accessible 'fine-dining' experience. Great food that is not too expensive considering the obvious care and attention that is going into every dish. A good selection of local/craft beers too. Couldn't recommend it enough."
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "I wish I had seen the cocktail list when I walked in. Such a quaint and jolly atmosphere when you arrive. Everything looks perfectly set. Clean and sparkling - just as it should be. Friendly, warm and genuinely staff. A menu that you want to eat all at the same time. Instead of wine with dinner we stuck to the amazing cocktails. Your Bloody Mary has ruined all future Bloody Mary's for me, it really was the best I've ever had! We also really enjoyed the theater of the old fashioned rum. Although I think I over did it with the Armagnac but I waited until the end of the meal to find out, I enjoyed it with the whipped chocolate and roasted hazelnuts, it definitely cleansed the palate. Would definitely go again."
    dined on 15/03/2014
  • "We visited the Hinds Head for lunch to celebrate a birthday, taking our 2 children (5 and 7). The staff were welcoming and looked after us well, with plenty of colouring to keep our girls happy. The set lunch menu was delicious and excellent value for 2 or 3 courses, creme brulee style liver pate, tender pork with squash puree and spinach, and the seasonal fool all very good. Tasty wine, and a good choice on the children's menu. We'd go back."
