Diner Reviews
  • "We went to the gun for a meal with my friends and whilst the food was nicer, i really expected better."
    dined on 06/02/2014
  • "We have been to the Gun several times, for business lunches, lunch with friends or just the two of us and have always found the food and sevice to be excellent. The staff are attentive and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Would definitley recommend this restaurant."

  • "Thank gun - I had a fantastic night my other half. We look forward to visiting your establishment again."
    dined on 04/04/2014
  • "Great food, great history, great setting! Perfect for a spring/summer lunch on the terrace."
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Once satnav had found the place and we managed to park (residential parking only) we had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch to celebrate Mothers day. Both the roast pork and beef were excellent [1st class roast potatoes] and the two fish eaters in our group said both the cod risotto and the sole, clams and mash were also very good. We will look to return come the warmer weather so we can eat outside overlooking the Thames looking out to the O2 Arena."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "Very good gastropub food and a friendly atmosphere. Even the kale was perfectly prepared. Nicely varied wine list"
    dined on 27/03/2014
  • "The Gun is an interesting alternative with good food. The huge number of waiting and bar staff seem to be crying out for a manager of which there appeared to be none. Without this the experience was rather haphazard."
    dined on 26/03/2014
  • "Perfect for a business lunch or dinner, with friends or a loved one; outstanding food and wine. Impeccable service. If you sit on the (heated) terrace you re literally on the Thames with a spectacular view cross the water to the O2 arena. Located 2 minutes from Billingsgate market you can be sue of the freshest fish choice, as well as other meat dishes (the venison is superb). Eaten here several times and they have ever failed to impress. Book in advance to get a table !"

  • "We enjoy going to The Gun for a nice atmosphere and interesting, delicious food. It is definitely a level above gastro pub fare with interesting flavour combinations and well presented plates. Our starters and mains were great and service just right. We were able to take as much time as we liked and enjoy the evening. The only disappointment was the lemon meringue pie for desert with a creamy lemon bottom more like a cheesecake (not tangy) and soggy uncooked meringue- maybe this is the fashion but it's not how I was taught to make it! Petit fours with our fresh mint tea were a nice touch. Recommended for couple or small group."

  • "I've been to The Gun a couple of times now, its always busy. It gets very loud as tables of Canary Wharfites compete to be heard the drunker they get. Its extraordinarily expensive for a pub. We had a bottle of wine, a bottle of water and 2 pork belly buns and it cost the best part of £100. Service was impeccable though and food was just ok. I'd go again, my partner would not."
    dined on 21/03/2014
  • "it has been a very good experience both in terms of food and atmosphere. I will come back ."
    dined on 20/03/2014
  • "The food in the Gun was good however the evening was spoiled by the staff. They were pleasant and attentive to us, but there seemed to be a cast of thousands that kept getting in each others way, and they were all squabbling amongst themselves which put a damper on things. After our meal, we were asked if we could leave our table as it was required so we went to the bar. One of our party was leaning on the bar, and unbeknownst to him, one of the staff put a tray of empty glasses immediately behind his elbow - the inevitable happened and the staff got annoyed with us! Wont be back!"
    dined on 20/03/2014
  • "interesting menu, well cooked and good location; particularly if you want to get away from the City."
    dined on 18/03/2014
  • "I've never had a bad meal at The Gun. The staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I thoroughly recommend it. We had a great Sunday roast last week in leisurely, historic surroundings. Lovely..."
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "We did struggle to find the gun and even people nearby did not know it was there. A nice surprise when we did find it. I wish I'd booked a table looking over the river. The good was very good and the service was very good. We would recommend it for its unusual surroundings. The main meals were lovely and most if the sweets were very good but the lemon meringue quite frankly was pathetic , I've never seen meringue like it and the lemon was only about half an inch thick. I could cook a much better one."
    dined on 08/03/2014
  • "The Gun is by far my favourite pub in the whole of London. The food is exceptional, service outstanding and the atmosphere is superb!"
    dined on 06/03/2014
  • "Went here as a foursome and enjoyed as very good meal. Went for mains and desserts. Almost everyone ordered the guinea fowl which was really special. Don't order too many sides, it's very filling. Had a few of their speciality ales and some great chocolate torte to finish. Would definitely recommend."
    dined on 19/02/2014
  • "Nice (historic!) setting, good food, ...but slow service (and somewhat pushy to drink more...). Beer is good."
    dined on 27/02/2014
  • "Fine restaurant with excellent food, albeit a rather short menu with limited choice of starters. The view from the terrace is brilliant. The range of beers is good. The staff are friendly, helpful and well-informed."
    dined on 22/02/2014
  • "Still in my opinion the best of teh ETM group ....."
    dined on 22/12/2013
  • "Every time I go here for lunch on Sunday I promise myself to have something else - but I never do - only ever select the pork belly - because it is fabulous"
    dined on 09/06/2013
  • "I arrived with a client for a "good" business lunch - It was pretty empty at 1.00 pm but the atmosphere is always good - We were advised (recommended) to go for the chef's special that was a roe deer something or other that was slowly cooked in the oven - It was really disappointing and very grissly! - Everything else was perfect but the meat dish was a big let down - It wouldn't prevent me returning but I will be more careful with my selection!"
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "I dined here with two friends on Tuesday and we all enjoyed the delicious well-prepared food using fresh locally-sourced produce where possible. All washed down with a superb Malbec recommended by the staff. Well worth visiting this charming old historic pub."
    dined on 18/02/2014
  • "Fabulous old fashioned gastropub by the river. Difficult to find without a taxi. The pub side is cosy and welcoming with great draught beers while the menu is really inviting and limited in scope - a good sign. Good cooking, good range in wine list & good service. Need to plan for £50-£60 per head incl wine."
    dined on 15/02/2014
  • "We enjoyed a romantic evening at the Gun. The food and service were second to none. To top it all we saw the fireworks shooting over the O2 from the river. A spectacular end to the evening before a short taxi can ride home. We will be returning to the Gun again."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "We arrived in a tiny side street with no great expectations but what an amazing surprise. A roaring fire, Sunday lunch with the best roast potatoes ever and the lamb was exceptional. They were attentive, the views astounding of the dome. A lovelyday had by all our party of 6. Check out the private dining room upstairs for a special celebration. Go eat here and enjoy."
    dined on 09/02/2014
  • "The Gun is lovely - an old pub with big windows and verandah overlooking O2 Centre (and a garden). Nelson used to go there with his mistress, Lady Hamilton, it seems for amourous encounters...so very romantic too, with wood fires in winter. Food absolutely delicious, and reasonably priced (although some very expensive items on the menu too). There is a wonderful room upstairs with a huge beautiful old table which sits up to 16 people, and huge windows looking out on O2 Centre, for hire, no charge, just normal food prices. Staff extremely friendly and helpful - and will show you around very proudly if you ask. Highly recommended."
    dined on 04/02/2014
  • "I took three of my girly friends to The Gun on Sunday and had such a lovely time, it was a lovely atmosphere even though they were busy, I like that it is split I to three different quirky eating areas including the Inclosed outside balcony overlooking the o2. I definitely would recommend this to friends especially the roast need :)"
    dined on 02/02/2014
  • "Great venue for canary wharf/O2 . Certainly worth the visit, it has bags of character & old world charm"
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "I had a business lunch at The Gun and really enjoyed it. The service was excellent, food was quickly served and very good (the scallops were great). The bread before starter was tasty too. Overall really enjoyable and would definitely go back. Before I thought it was bit out of the way for a business lunch in Canary Wharf, but it is definitely worth the 5 min cab ride, no doubt."
    dined on 24/01/2014
  • "Fantastic three-course lunch with good real ale and wine selections. Added bonus is the free limousine service to Canary Wharf tube station afterwards"
    dined on 01/11/2013
  • "Very decent food (although on the expensive side) with lovely views on to the O2."
    dined on 09/01/2014
  • "Sadly the beef option for the sunday luch menu ran out, however the pork option was a surprise and most definietly made up for there being no beef left!"
    dined on 12/01/2014
  • "This dinner was a special one since it was my birthday! The team from the restaurant where great and finished it of with singig "happy birthday"!"
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "A fantastic evening, as always. It is by far my favourite restaurant in London, And I'm always very proud to bring my guests there! The food was excellent, especially my braised venison main!"
    dined on 11/01/2014
  • "Went for lunch before show at Excel with some clients. Lovely ambience with very good food and service. View from the terrace over looking the river and O2 is a great backdrop for lunch. Only a short cab ride from the City so highly recommended for those wanting to get away from the usual haunts."
    dined on 08/01/2014
  • "Been coming to the Gun for about five years - what I love about it is that the food is always really seasonal. So if you go now, you'll find plenty of game, chestnuts, and warming food. It's pretty good for veggies too - my husband is veggie and always finds something. He said his soup this time was one of the best he's ever had - I think it was parsnip, hazelnut and truffle. I had the lamb, which was superb. Roaring log fires on in the back part of the pub, and always the option to sit on the covered decking overlooking the O2 across the water, if you so choose."
    dined on 06/01/2014
  • "Celebrated a birthday here and had a really enjoyable evening. Good food, good venue and great staff."
    dined on 05/01/2014
  • "I come here quite often but I do find it to be quite pricey for what you get, still the pub has a nice atmosphere and the food has improved since the new chef has taken over but could still do better !"
    dined on 31/12/2013
  • "The roast dinner was huge and very tasty, my beef was melt in your mouth and the Yorkshire pudding was on point. Great select of drinks too! Definitely worth a go."
