The GunTop level of service, fab foodThe gun always delivers fantastic food. We have been there several times and it has always been outstanding. This past Sunday we booked it for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary . Although we were not expecting something extra special, without even knowing, the team that looked after us for lunch made the occasion remarkable! We were greeted with a glass of champagne because the table that we were given was too close to the door. Got some very good recommendations for wine and enjoyed a fabulous Sunday lunch. Top marks for the gun, once again, excellent.12/05/2013 00:00:00Sunday LunchFantastic Sunday lunch, a joy. The Gun is always my first choice as the quality of food, freshness and atmosphere is always very high.28/04/2013 00:00:00a great afternoon at the GunI travelled down to London as a birthday treat to eat at the Gun and we had a fantastic afternoon. The covered terrace provides a great little spot to dine and the views over the Thames are super. Food was top notch, service was attentive but not fussy and the standard of real ale was also very good. We will be back. It is quite pricey but I felt it was decent value given the quality of food, beer and service.27/04/2013 00:00:00Lovely Sunday Lunch.Great Sunday lunch sat on the terrace in the sunshine.
The gun is in a great location.
Service was top notch, cannot be faulted in the slightest.
We had our 16 month old son with us and our waiter was very friendly towards him, out son loved the attention.
Food was fantastic. My wife was a little disapointed with the salmon being slightly undercooked to her liking (there was no option when ordering as to how you would like it cooked).
The price does reflect the setting, but it was not over priced for the quality.
Would go back for a special occasion, and would certainly recommend to friends & family.21/04/2013 00:00:00Parents Anniversary DinnerHad a wonderful meal at the Gun on the first Saturday afternoon in April. Could not fault the food, the portions or the service. The only slight disapointment was due to the fact that the sunshine had bought everyone out they had been extremely busy at lunch time and this had impacted the menu somewhat in the evening. We sat outside to have coffee and the restaurant did a Happy Annversary written in chocolate and 4 biscuits to make the evening even more special. We will be back :)20/04/2013 00:00:00Another great mealHaving been to the Gun once before and requiring a nice place to take an old friend and a visitor for abroad we decided to have a Saturday lunch at the Gun. Once again the staff were very friendly and efficient and blended a great balance of a relaxed atmosphere with attentive and discrete service. The food was excellent, in particular the main course beef dish from the specials menu which was one of the best examples I have had in a very long time. We also particularly enjoyed the Bloody Mary which again was fantastic. I will certainly be back again - hopefully the sun will shine next time !13/04/2013 00:00:00Loved it!Hosted a work dinner for 8 which went brilliantly well. Great service and excellent food.10/04/2013 00:00:00The Gun is the best kept 'Local'The Gun is the best kept 'Local' that never fails to deliver on fantastic food and a relaxed atmosphere.06/04/2013 00:00:00Great quality near O2!Looking for a quality place to eat not far from the O2 was the objective and after recently eating at Gauchos, we found this was far better value - meal for two with £70 of drinks coming in at £111 inc service charge v £164 at Gauchos !!! The different rooms - front bar, rear with fireplace, comfy lounge, private dining room and al fresco eating option on the river looking over the O2 really gives this place everything ! It is tucked away in a side street (unusual spot) but a cut threw to canary wharf (10 min walk) exists and well worth the trip!02/04/2013 00:00:00Sunday Lunch At The GunI recently took my parents for Sunday lunch at The Gun. We has an excellent meal (the pork belly was fantastic), amazing service and the atmosphere was great.Probably the best Sunday lunch experience I have had in London. I will definitely be coming back for another visit!31/03/2013 00:00:00The gun is a pleasure to visit,The gun is a pleasure to visit, excellent food, attentive and helpful staff and a great location. Its great to be able to enjoy quality beers with quality food. The historic connection add intrigue and interest.20/03/2013 00:00:00Very good mealUsed this restaurant for the first time for a business meal. Although slightly cramped, the table was very well presented, the service, facilities and food were all very good and in line with the website/marketing for the venue. Everyone commented on the quality of the food and choices available. Very pleasant experience all around.
Will be back for personal and business use.20/03/2013 00:00:00cosy and quaint, great place! We went for lunch on a Saturday with my boyfriend and a friend. We sat first in a smaller room with the open fire and view through the deck and terrace for a drink. The place is all wooden with antic guns on the walls. Good classy pub atmosphere.
Then we headed to the main room for our lunch which was excellent: good, and well presented with some original dish (at least for me) such as the allium soup with algae. The service was relaxed and professional. The waiters and owner were charming and accommodating
I will definitely go back, definitely in the summer to make the most of the terrace (which is covered tho so people were sitting there already).09/03/2013 00:00:00Great Sunday lunchA great pub for a fabulous Sunday lunch. The food and service were excellent. The only slight niggle was that the pub was very full and we were placed on a table next to the fire exit with not much space around us.03/03/2013 00:00:00Business lunchService: attentive/approachable without being overbearing or rushed.
Food: Allium soup and Bream main very good, pork belly main was perhaps a little dry.
Ambience: The comfort of a classic pub (brass/dark wood) but with lots of light so not at all dingy. Tables not too crowded. Nice noise level.
Overall, very enjoyable lunch. Looking forward to another visit!20/02/2013 00:00:00Very nice (but a bit pricey) placeI went with a group of six friends and we had a very good experience. The service is very good with very attentive waiters.
The food was yummy with a great selection of wines. My only complaining was the bill - a bit pricey for a gastro pub, but again, all in all, it's a highly recommended one, especially for a nice Sunday lunch.17/02/2013 00:00:00Amazing food and great serviceThis was a last-minute birthday meal with my parents, and I've wanted to try the menu for a while now, so I was very happy we managed to get in, and I wasn't disappointed at all! The food was amazing. I had chicken livers for starter, and fallow deer for main and they were both fantastic; the flavours were amazing and the accompanying dishes also really well done.
However, great food was made even better by wonderful service. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and thoughtful. My mum is coeliac and the waitress knew exactly what she could and couldn't have. But it was the little touches, like bringing olives in place of a bread roll, that made the difference. A really pleasant dining experience, and I'll definitely be going back.16/02/2013 00:00:00I absolutely loved the food. The Poussin was lovely, however I would prefer it with the skin more crispy, but the dripping gravy was to die for. I thought it was only a small quantity, but once you tasted it there was so much flavour you really didn't need much at all. We had friends visiting us and they were very inpressed with the place great atmosphere.16/02/2013 00:00:00Good food and service, worth itLovely selection of food and thoughtful menus. Nice wine selection - if a little pricey. Good service. Overall good dining experience.16/02/2013 00:00:00good food and wineFood and wine excellent service top draw great for a special occasion would thoroughly recommend to anyone.13/02/2013 00:00:00Had a great dinner at theHad a great dinner at the Gun. Used to go when lived closer and a couple of years later it is still brilliant!09/02/2013 00:00:00Always consistently goodWe go to the Gun regularly, and it never disappoints - the food is good, drinks selection great, the service is always excellent. A great pub to go to for a few drinks or a full meal.03/02/2013 00:00:00lovelylovely food, excellent service in a wonderful and historical setting with great views of the thames.21/01/2013 16:00:00Yum at the GunWe took friends over from Germany with their little one to the Gun for dinner on Sunday and had a great time as always. We had vouchers for champagne for 2 and as there were 4 of us and it was their anniversary we got 4 all free which was fab! the service was great and they were helpful with the baby's needs too. I had the special of Kid for my main which was delicious but HUGE and my only complaint was the yorkshire pudding was overcooked. My fiance had sea bass with gnocci which was to die for and our friends had the duck and cod which were also great. Definitely a cosy yummy place for this winter weather.20/01/2013 00:00:00SergeyThe best gastropub in London. Food and service are amazing. Try Yorkshire rabbit, pigeon and black pudding terrine. Delicious!18/01/2013 16:00:00A hidden GemWe went on a week night and it was really buzzing. This has to be one of the best pubs in London.Within sight of Canary wharf it is hidden away in a narrow old fashioned lane overlooking the water, with a view of the dome. The food is a cut above the usual gastropub.Interesting dishes including pigs ears for example. We were a party of four and everyone was impressed with their meal.16/01/2013 16:00:00Gun hits the targetFood superb, interesting take on traditional British dishes (nice to see trotters, pigeon, rabbit making appearances) and good value for the high standard. My only thought was that 52 pounds for a roast pheasant to share was too much. Pheasant is not expensive (6 or 7 quid for a brace) and pretty straightforward. But then game is always way over-priced in London. Game dealers buy venison for 50p per lb from estates.. the margin somewhere is insane.. But back to The Gun - bar menu also has tasty options and oysters at friendly prices. There's decent beer on draught; a great, well-balanced wine list; and well-planned spaces for smart dining or hearty drinking or cosy lounging. And the staff were charming. I'm going to stay all day next time.11/01/2013 16:00:00Great service, thank you!The service was so very friendly and helpful, thank you very much. The food was lovely, of course, we spent a great time!05/01/2013 16:00:00Great food with service to matchI dined at The Gun on New Year's Eve with a friend and it was excellent. The food was delicious and the wine menu extensive. The staff were courteous and took the wine very seriously - when we ordered a second bottle and it seemed different from the first, they replaced it without any fuss. The pub is located right by the river and has a very cosy ambience. It's definitely a hidden gem on the Isle of Dogs and well worth a visit. I will certainly be back again soon.30/12/2012 16:00:00My third time and still as good! Can't fault the place. Very good food, good service and I love the place. If you're in the area, go!22/12/2012 16:00:00Fun at the Gundinner was lovely - good wines and excellent service at the Gun as always! We had the salmon to start and then i had the special of the day - lobster - and my friend from NY who wanted a nice 'pub' feeling during his 1 night stop over flight, had the lamb which was lovely too!23/11/2012 00:00:00Geat Autumn FoodThe food at The Gun is just so good.
With an emphasis on real food such as fish and game. The Pheasant to share was excellent. A started of Kiln Cooked Salmon was lovely and different you what you see else where. The desert of Apple & Pear Crumble was lovely warming winter food.
Witha busy ambiance this is a perfect November Saturday night.17/11/2012 00:00:00I have eaten at The Gun manyI have eaten at The Gun many times over the years and this was the best meal we have had there. From poached salmon starter to fantastic Atlantic Cod with Borolli beans its was all excellently prepared served by knowledgable pleasant staff. All excellent.06/05/2012 00:00:00
