A word from The Guinea
At the Guinea, we specialize in serving you aged, grass fed Scotch beef from Aberdeenshire. We are founder members of the Scotch beef Club whose president, Princess Anne is a passionate supporter. The Guinea also enjoys a huge following for steak pies. We have been National Steak pie champions no less than 3 times. We don’t ignore fish and seafood lover’s either and offer you a quality selection.

The Guinea is unique in that the restaurant and private dining room is housed with the walls of one of London’s oldest pubs established in 1423. This means that not only do we offer you a fine selection of wines, particularly Claret and Burgundy, we also serve Young’s award winning ales. Respected restaurant guides like Hardens, Zagat and the Good Food guide nearly always remark on our warm and friendly service.

Diner Reviews
  • "Great food, superb service and atmosphere. Decent sized portions of food so often lacking in restaurants these days. Will definitely be returning"

  • "This was my second visit and it was as good as I remember! It's a lovely old London pub with the grill room at the back and full of character, tables are fairly close together but that is part of the character. The starter of mussels in a tomato sauce with a scallop was excellent and the sirloin was delicious! The service was a good balance of attention and friendliness."
    dined on 11/04/2014
  • "Meat was good however side dishes were more than average and the wild mushroom sauce didn't taste any mushroom at all and was way too salty to eat (disappointing since you pay £3.50 for that). Tables are too close from one another so no intimacy at all. Great service though!"

  • "A hidden gem tucked away in a quaint mews away from the hustle of Mayfair, The Guinea offers a fine range of wines and Young's beer where you can have a drink or two before stepping behind the bar into the dining room passing a wonderful array of the finest cuts of meat proudly displayed in a chiller cabinet to tempt you and which is explained with pride by your host en route to your table. The restaurant is full of old world charm which reminded me of Rules and the service was impeccable and the food well presented and equally delicious; do try if you like your steak or pies as they are particularly renowned for them and from what I could see, they were selling fast. A wonderful dining experience."

  • "The food was sub par. Way over priced for what you received. My father are there many years ago and said it was good. That was not the case here. The booth was not the most comfortable and we had a hard time understanding our waiter. I had the duck and it was fine, nothing special. My guests who had the filet mignonette were very disappointed. Thank goodness I paid for them. The martinis were too strong and a dirty martini does not work for them. Make sure to order more dressing for your salad. It was so light, we thought they forgot. Need I say more? Very poor overall"

  • "The Guinea an oldie but goodie. Some of the best meat in London. Slightly cramped by today's standards, but in terms of qulaity and atmosphere it has it all."
    dined on 02/04/2014
  • "Second time there from Oklahoma. Ambience is very good has an unusual history. Quality is very good. I had the Scottish Oysters, for appetizer and Dover Sole for entre, excellently prepared. My colleague had sirloin steak and said his was excellent as well. I would recommend to all and look forward to my next trip over to eat there again."

  • "I previously have used the Guinea just to drink in and always said I must eat here. Wow! what an experience the food was too fantastic food and service. I will certainly recommend and will be back very soon."

  • "Couldn't fault the service or the food - another lovely evening!"

  • "Good service at the Guinea Grill. The decor could do with an uplift. The sirloin on the bone I had was slightly burnt tasting which was a shame."

  • "Quintessentially English! The service is amazing and the food is great."
    dined on 12/03/2014
  • "A steak lovers paradise - it does not get any better than this established London eatery - has it all great beers /wines and food - cannot sing its praises loudly enough."
    dined on 13/03/2014
  • "I went to The Guinea with a guest from Japan. Japanese beef (Wagyu) has superior reputation worldwide but my guest actually prefers the beef at the Guinea. Not only the quality of the beef but how it is seasoned and cooked makes this restaurant the top of the tops. This is the place I want to take my friends and clients to impress them!"

  • "Had my birthday lunch here with my family - grill room ambience and service excellent, grill chef very welcoming as was the young lady on reception who talked us through the different meats available. The waiters & sommelier were very attentive. Excellent starters followed by Porterhouse Steaks (about 850/900g for 2 diners) Cooked to perfection! Would not hesitate to return or recommend to friends looking for a perfect British restaurant serving traditional foods. Roll on next special occasion!"

  • "I lunched with 3 colleagues and had "a boy's lunch". A warm up with a few beers, followed by excellent meats and fine wines. MK"

  • "I go to The Guinea a couple of times a year. The service is of a high standard as is the quality of the food. The Beef Wellington on the specials menu was top notch. Recommended."
    dined on 18/02/2014
  • "This was our second visit to The Guinea in just under 12 months and we enjoyed it just as much as our first. The steaks (sirloin and fillet) were cooked to perfection and the sides (chips and sauteed onions) were very good indeed, particularly the onions. I was a little underwhelmed by my blue cheese/walnut salad starter (the leaves were a bit bland and there were not enough walnuts), but my partner was very satisfied with her caesar salad. We opted for glasses of wine rather than sharing a bottle as we had done one our last visit and found this to be much better value, though with 3 people or more the bottles would almost certainly prove their worth. Highly recommended over chains like The Hawksmoor et al. for a special occasion."
    dined on 14/02/2014
  • "We made reservations well ahead of time for Valentine's Day. Our reservation was not found immediately and we were questioned about it. Seating should not have been a problem as there were many vacant tables during our reserved time of 7:00. We both ordered the filet. My husband's was extremely salty and he sent it back (not an inexpensive cut). By the time his meal arrived, I was almost done eating, his sides were cold and his steak was not cooked to order. I think it had one more "moo" let. We did not complain any further, payed the hefty bill and agreed not to eat there again. We traveled from the states to spend my birthday and Valentine's in London."

  • "The service and quality of food was outstanding . The portions were generous and good selection of wines. I will definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion ."

  • "Beem coming to the Guinea for 20 years. I live in the US and still manage to visit 6-8 times per year. There is no flash. Just quality service, unbelievable steaks, a fabulous wine cellar and a team that cares. I have introduced many business colleagues to the Guinea over the years and all have become regulars themselves. Expensive excellence, found on a dark side street on central London."
    dined on 10/02/2014
  • "We were recommended this restaurant by friends. We were in London for 2 days, liked the atmosphere and the service, I was a little disappointed with the steak, tad tough and on the cold side, but overall would try again. We do come from Yorkshire where the best meat is reared. So hard to impress."
    dined on 05/02/2014
  • "We went there on a recommendation and the food was truly worth it. My husband and I had the fillet well done and the taste was amazing. The service was very friendly and we had a great evening."
    dined on 01/02/2014
  • "A delightful old pub that does superb grills - especially steaks and beef - plus good fish alternatives with excellent food and wine service. It has it's own character but not the atmosphere of an expensive restaurant yet very special for eating with friends or colleagues."
    dined on 29/01/2014
  • "Steaks cooked perfectly. Best steaks after Goodman. Service is excellent"
    dined on 18/01/2014
  • "The Guinea never fails to serve fantastic beef in an ambiance rarely found in London these days - courteous, elegance at the forefront.....and you get a decent pint of real ale too!"
    dined on 18/01/2014
  • "Great steaks, tender and well cooked. The Guinea clearly takes pride in their steaks and has a classic classy feel yet not being over pretentious. The menu is fairly expensive but that was expected due to previously seeing the menu online."
    dined on 04/01/2014
  • "Went with my family for dinner and had not only a great meal but a great experience. We were looked after with excellent service and the steaks were fantasic. Its pricey but worth every cent"

  • "Mouthwatering steaks and fish and very gracious service."

  • "Usual standard of excellent service and food - steaks are just wonderful! One of just a small handful of London restaurants that I would recommend to friends/colleagues."
    dined on 24/12/2013
  • "We have visited the restaurant in the past on our visits to London, however this time we were disappointed, the food was O.K. Our waiter was good, however the ladies bathroom was appalling, dirty with water flowing on the floor, not what I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber and it needs some renovations. One cannot live on ones reputation for ever."
    dined on 23/12/2013
  • "The Guinea Grill is a great place to eat. The food is always good and the ambience is superb. The only issue I have is that the tables are a little cramped and you're always feeling a little squashed in. That apart, it's worth it to enjoy the beautiful food and wine, served by attentive and cheerful staff."
    dined on 10/12/2013
  • "We have been going here for over 30 years and are always pleased with the total experience. We love the ambience of the intimate dining room, the food is typical chop house but very satisfying. Prices are reasonable for this part of London."
    dined on 10/12/2013
  • "Hi ALL The Guinea was recommended to us by a friend who is a regular guest with you. Me and my wife had a fantastic dinner at your place. We will definitely recommend The Guinea to our friends. Nevertheless I have to mention the price of the Coto de Imaz Reserva was different on the list than on the bill. According to the waiter, this was due to IT related updates. Kind regards and fröhliche Weihnachten. Albert Aebli"
    dined on 30/11/2013
  • "Excellent food and service with a great atmosphere. Only critisism was that tables are v close together."
    dined on 26/11/2013
  • "I Love the guinea grill and have eaten here often, the staff are always brilliant but on this occasion the mushroom was undercooked and the steaks not allowed to rest so it seemed like they were knocking the food out at the end of the day! i'll be back though."
    dined on 25/11/2013
  • "Having been to many great resturants over many years the GUINEA must rank amongst the very best food. I went with my wife for our aniversary to this little gem behind a pub, it was like a secret room, the starters were great i had crab and crayfish salad and my wife had a fab quiche then cam the star of the show both had ribeye steaks which were heavenly, perfectly cooked and a good size. the veg were outstanding too caulflower cheese was the best ever plus peas and spinich too. everything was great. The overall price was very expensive even without wine but was worth it. One downside we sat squashed in the top level, go inside more which i think they give you after going a few times, ask for the bigger room on booking."
    dined on 20/11/2013
  • "We booked as a special treat and followed a Giles Coren recommendation. The service was excellent and the starters lived up to our expectations (scallops and prawns). Sadly the porterhouse steak was over cooked - medium to well done rather than the rare to medium requested - and it was VERY salty. We enjoyed the ambiance and came away with a good feeling and the hope that we just arrived on a bad day. As a result we would give the Guinea a second chance but there would be no room for disappointment."
    dined on 09/11/2013
  • "Fantastic meal at the Guinea. Delicious English steak cooked before our very eyes washed down with some delicious wine. Starters and dessert also excellent. Was entertaining some guests and the Guinea was a wonderful way to end the day."
    dined on 06/11/2013
  • "Nice place, great food, reasonably priced for a restaurant like this and perfect service"

  • "The Guinea is a lovely olde worlde pub just off Bond St. We arrived early so went for a drink in the bar first and then went into the dining room at the back, which is a lovely cosy room with wood panelling and comfy seats. All members of staff that we had interaction with were extremely friendly and efficient. You certainly get a warm welcome. We had fillet steaks, which were absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. We have tried a great many restaurants in London that specialise in steak and this was one of the best we have had. The wine was excellent and not overpriced. This is definitely a real find and we will certainly be back. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant. If you like steak you will absolutely love it."
