  • "The atmosphere was relaxed yet elegant, and the table settings were very well done. From the moment we met reception it was clear that this was a highly organised restaurant and that we would be well looked after, as indeed we were. My oysters were perfect and my partner really enjoyed the Yorkshire Fish Cake, whilst the main courses were brilliant. The wine was splendid (and I do know a bit about wine!) and the service was exactly what it should be. All round a very fine experience, and value for money."

  • "The menu was varied and all five of us enjoyed the food and the wine. We had to share the 'banquet' which felt a bit intrusive but did not spoil the quality of the food. On the whole, service was very good, just once did we have a complaint, whereby gravy wasn't brought to the table and one of us was left waiting for a while. This is an ideal place to meet friends or family arriving or leaving from King's Cross."

We were sadly too late for the early evening prix fixe which offers excellent value so ordered a la carte. The rib of beef for two was the highlight and outstanding but perhaps could have come with a side or two at that price. Very good wine and cocktail list. Service is excellent and staff will recognise you and acknowledge you if you come more than once which is always pleasant and gives a more personal dimension to the restaurant. Well worth trying!"

  • "Booked the Gilbert Scott as a birthday present,four of us dined. We had a reservation for 6.15. The restaurant itself is housed in the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, which is a stunning building full of character. The staff were friendly, courteous and efficient. Bread and butter was brought to the table while we made our food choices. The starters were Foie Gras, Smoked Salmon, Yorkshire Fishcake and Omlette Arnold Bennett (which unfortunately had several small bones in it). All starters were very tasty and good size portions. Wood Pigeon, Homemade Burger and Ox Cheek were mains, again, all very tasty. Banana Bread and Butter Pudding, warm Chocolate Mousse and Lord Mayor Triffle rounded off a thoroughly enjoyable restaurant experience."

  • "I was meeting an ex colleague, for diner who likes his food and have taste for sophistication. The booking people were extremely accommodating as my friend was late they confirm that my table will be kept and I could wait at the bar. Once seated, waiters were extremely pleasant and professional and the food was really good. The atmosphere is cosy and not too loud if you need to speak business. I will strongly recommend for any occasion. Will definitely come back."

  • "My family dined at The Gilbert Scott to celebrate Mums 60th Birthday and we had a fabulous time. We had our 3 year old daughter with us and she was welcomed with crayons and paper which she was delighted with. The food was fantastic all round and the service excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special family celebration."

  • "I met my nephew for an early supper before catching a train home. Adam works in PR. The check in process was very slow- those without bookings seemed to get preference over those with the forethought to book. However, once we were eventually seated (the wait was more than 5 minutes) we had a great table (in the corner of a banquette) and the ambience is lovely- the room is spectacular. The menu had plenty of choice- my skate wing was delicious and Adam's ox cheek full flavoured, as required. Adam's choc ice pudding was, apparently, spectacular. My rhubarb crumble was delicious but lacked bite. We had a lovely meal and my comments are picky (apart from the wait to be seated)- I am looking forward to my next visit."

  • "The food at this restaurant is outstanding and good value considering the quality. Great choice on the menu and beautiful setting in the dining area. Visited on a Friday early evening and the bar area though was very very busy. It took about 30 minutes for my husband and I to even receive our drinks order. This was attended to swiftly after a complaint and we were offered a free cocktail each. No faults though on the part of the dining area and staff and would highly recommend this restaurant to all."

  • "I took a group of clients here and we all had a lovely time. Great food, good wine and no quibbles with the service. We had a 12.30 booking and the room was fairly quiet when we arrived but it soon got busier and the atmosphere improved. I wouldn't dine here on my own pocket unless it was a special occasion as its quite pricey, but you get what you pay for."

  • "Although the food was very good I feel this was a case of the front of house letting down the chef! Three of us met for our 'special' Christmas lunch. The table we were given was much too close to the next table to the extent I felt I could join the conversation! I asked to move which was accommodated. The wine we ordered was either wrongly described on the menu or wrongly delivered. That was changed. As mentioned the food was very good but for the price we paid I think it should have been and the service was only adequate. Unfortunately I won't be back for some time."

  • "For the first time ever I didn't leave anything for service. Everything is very pleasant here but we just had a bad experience. Waited 15 mins in the bar to be served by uninterested and unfriendly staff - when it was early in the day and bar fairly empty. At the table we had to wait ages and it become a farce such as asking if we could pour our own wine (it's not fine dining but it is that sort of a place). I think we just had a bad waiter as the rest of the experience was good with welcoming staff. I would go again for the food."

Overstaffed with underpaid foreign hotel school drop outs, Automatons unable to answer questions about menu and food. Nice decor. No good value wine all too expensive.Good food but very rich ad overpriced, and a generally uninspired menu. A venue capitalising on its name and tourists not in need of good manners or service that makes them want to return."

  • "Our first visit to Marcus Wareing's Gilbert Scott restaurant was a good one. We booked an early table - 6.30-9.30 slot -but as the restaurant was not totally full, they allowed us to stay longer, which was a bonus. The food was delicious - particularly the prawn and rabbit pie followed by the plum and almond pudding with some excellent wines. Service was unobtrusive but warm and efficient, with a lovely maitre d'.The décor is wonderful in this beautifully restored Victorian gem of St Pancras hotel. Definitely worth a visit although it will not be an inexpensive one."

  • "Had seen some poor reviews, mainly due to poor service. But we were treated to Michelin-star service from the moment we arrived to the moment we left (on-time to catch our show). Added to this charming and attentive service, which included recommending dishes that would took less time to prepare, prompting us to order coffee so that we could leave on time and slotting in an extra order from a late-comer, the food was truly excellent and the ambience magnificent. Will definitely go again!"

  • "On Sundays the full lunch menu only starts at noon but there is a good brunch menu from 10am. The set lunch menu is excellent value and when their signature Omelette Arnold Bennett, Pork Belly and Oeuf a la neige are featured one really couldn't ask for anything more. Food is (usually) impeccably prepared and presented although on this occasion the oeuf wasn't quite solid enough. Original cocktail and extensive wine lists. Well worth trying!"

The food is posh pub grub, and the prices are expensive for the standard of the food but I guess you are paying for the location. The service was excellent, and the wine list extensive. I don't think I would go back as pub grub isn't my favorite cuisine."

  • "We sat in the bar a while before dinner which I found more atmospheric than the main dining hall. That's about the only negative thing I have to say and I'm sure if we had gone at any other time than a quiet Sunday night the restaurant would have been a buzz. The Omlette Arnold Bennett was fantastic, the fish I had for the main very good and pudding was very nice too. All helped along with carafes of delicious red wine and all very reasonably priced."

My dining companions were stuck in traffic so in the 30mins I waited for them the staff were kind enough to supply me with newspapers to keep me occupied and stop me looking like I'd been stood up. The venue is lovely and the food is great, we started with Omelette Arnold Bennett - delicious. Followed by Grilled cornfed chicken - also good and the veg served with it were perfect. I've no idea what the potatoes were roasted in but I'd guess they were 1000 calories each, they tasted that good... pudding for me was icecream, fab. The others had Mrs Beeton's snow egg and the banana bread and butter pudding. Pudding was eaten in silence. We'll be back."

  • "I know Mondays are a bad day to pick for a restaurant visit so my breath was held. It took about half an hour just to get to ordering and it wasn't busy (which is why I can't recommend this place for business meals). I alerted the waitress - very friendly throughout - to our time constraints and said that ideally we'd have time for 3 courses. The vegetarian was ecstatic, my main was almost too salty to eat (no time to send back and re-order) so I navigated around the sauce and lamb belly that rendered the carrot puree inedible and just ate the lamb, perfectly cooked. The other main was fine. Lovely starters, no time for dessert sadly. On a good day I imagine this place is worth the money, but Mondays are not a good day."

  • "Took a group of clients. Had everything from steaks to salads and everyone said the food was fabulous. The waiters were very attentive and we even had a pianist creating some lovely background music. This restaurant does cost a lot, but it's a very nice venue when you need something special."

  • "I booked this restaurant to entertain a group of clients. Service in the restaurant was good, food was good quality and my foreign guests loved the britishness of the menu. My only negative was my dealing with the reservations team. I used toptable to book a table for eight which it allowed me to do without requirement of a deposit. A week before the booking date, Sarah, from the reservations team, called to demand a non-refundable deposit for the booking. Sarah was abrupt and unhelpful on the telephone and very unfriendly in person. I understand that the booking system is incorrect and unclear however it is completely unnecessary to be as rude as Sarah was."
