The George Hotel Oak Panelled RestaurantThe environment was relaxing,The environment was relaxing, warm and comforting with staff always available to point in right direction, get drinks, etc. no waiting around but was given enough time to relax.
Food was very tasty with lovely fresh bread, and served beautifully.
We didn't want to go home.28/04/2013 00:00:00An excellent anniversaryFrom a warm welcome on arrival to the calm atmosphere in the restaurant - we reviewed the excellent wine list - chose our meals whilst enjoying a bruchetta with Potato soup shot and were well treated.
The starters were enjoyed - with the soup being more suitable in size for a cafe and the tempura being slightly overcooked in I think - Beer Batter. The Main couses were superb - a huge Dover sole prepared at table and an excellent rib of beef carved to order - very tasty and much enjoyed - but for presentation more was needed as the pass - possibly a plate addition of asparagus or shallots or similar - Nice desserts and truffles to end (if you like truffles)
Overall a very good evening 95% which could have been 100%24/04/2013 00:00:00Very enjoyable mealHad a lovely evening meal for two in the Oak Panelled Restaurant. The food was gorgeous and I really appreciated that the wine water was considerate enough to check who selected the wine (it was me not my husband) and so I was given the option to be the taster. (A first for me!)
The timing of the service was perfect, friendly and considerate also.07/04/2013 00:00:00A Ladies Night OutWe are three friends who meet on occasion for a catch up and an excellent meal. Two of the ladies had never been to The George previously. We found the choices on the menu excellent and resulted in much decision making as to what to chose.
The food that we did finally chose was excellent. The bread served with the meal was gorgeous and we found, sourced from a local bakery. (We visited the bakery the next day and bought some great provisions!)
Also the wine list contained a wine from Languedoc that is never normally on a wine list which is absolutely lovely.
The service was extremely professional without being intrusive.
The ambience and surroundings of the restaurant was great, especially as it was a Wednesday evening.
Excellent value.13/03/2013 00:00:00Great for a special mealI took my husband toTthe George for his birthday. We both enjoyed the roast sirloin of beef which was carved at the table. There was a good choice of desserts but my husband opted for the cheese which were all local and excellent. The only downside was it came with standard cheese biscuits from a packet and nothing special. Service started well but deteriorated during the meal, We felt the younger staff needed better supervision and training and heard the same comment from other diners.. The bill was incorrect and we were charged for two sweets and two desserts instead of one which was immediately corrected when pointed out However, we will go back and recommend it too others as the food and ambiance were excellent.06/12/2012 00:00:0080th birthday dinnerI had eating at The George several times before, and so although I knew that The Oak Panelled Dining Room is expensive, I wanted to treat a friend to a good dinner experience for his 80th birthday, so I booked a table for four. It was VERY good service and food, cooked well and presented beautifully.. yes it cost me £186 for 4 meals with champagne, but worth it. If you want less expensive and less choice, but equally good quality, eat in the Orangery / garden restaurant at the George, very pleasant!16/09/2012 00:00:00A really enjoyable experience.Dining room is smaller than i imagined but very cosy and full of character.
The staff are amazing and service excellent.
We had the set lunch menu of main coure and either sweet or cheese, at £25 it was really good value, we went for a starter and they were good but very expensive, stick to set menu as you will struggle to get through three courses without wasting food.
The rack of beef rib was enormous and carved at the table it was pink, tender and very tasty, you got all the usual trimmings and more.
The dessert trolley is to die for and the cheese trolley very impressive with a variety of classic cheeses.
Well done Stamford we had a great day!15/09/2012 00:00:00
