The Drapers ArmsBirthday meal at The Drapers ArmsExcellent venue for a family birthday lunch - great location, good food and the staff couldn't have been better.27/04/2013 00:00:00we had a great night, somewe had a great night, some of the food was a bit disappointing, but overall a good evening.26/04/2013 00:00:00GreatDecided to come to the Drapers Arms for Sunday roast and doing a quick search on the Internet and finding out this was one of the best places for Sunday roast in the area. It was a last minute booking but luckily they had 1 spare slot so book early to avoid disappointment.21/04/2013 00:00:00Perfect pub lunchGreat atmosphere, great food, great service. Perfect for a lazy lunch, we were there for over three hours, with no pressure to give up your table despite the place being packed.20/04/2013 00:00:00They have these big sharingThey have these big sharing meals of lamb shøulder, pigs head and pork shops - fantastic14/04/2013 00:00:00I wish I had a local like this!Lovely space. Warm and attentive service. Fun wine list with some interesting surprises. Delicious, earthy dishes. Personal highlights: Brooklyn beer on tap, yummy bread, crispy breast of Lamb, perfectly cooked Lemon Sole and an outrageously good Apple crumble.30/03/2013 00:00:00Perfect for lunch on a rainy dayGreat pub lunch with loads of variety, the food was beautifully cooked and presented along with great table service for diners. Wine and beer prices perfectly reasonable. Couldn't ask for more on another rainy day!16/03/2013 00:00:00good neighbourhood restaurantYet again an excellent meal. Why no category above for relaxed dining with friend (s). It is good outdoors but not in the current weather!11/03/2013 00:00:00Back to Top FormWe used to eat here all the time and then the place lost its way. Its been back up under new management for a while now and whilst we have had drinks there, not food. We took Mum and the family for Mother's Day and it was relaxed, food was on time, staff were very chilled and nothing was a problem. Loved it!!10/03/2013 00:00:00excellent whether busy or quietYeah we loved it here! Down an unassuming side road and tucked away behind Liverpool Road, it's worth making sure your GPS is working. The Drapers Arms had a nice warm feel when we arrived at 7pm even though it was quiet and we were virtually the first diners. The dinner itself was tasty and well presented, from our buckling pate to my mackerel to her sweetbreads and they emerged from the boiler room in good time considering the place had packed out. Lively though now, not hectic.
The staff were super friendly and helpful, which feels like you're eating with friends and they took the time to explain the more intriguing/unusual items on the menu (monk's beard anyone?). An important tip though: Don't share the Seville Orange Steamed pud!07/03/2013 00:00:00Great pub, great foodI went with a group of 7 to celebrate Valentine's Day and a birthday. The food was excellent. Really unusual choices but they pulled it off! Great wine selection. Lovely staff. Have booked to go back for my birthday too.14/02/2013 00:00:00Excellent destination forExcellent destination for that special occasion. I booked one week in advance and was given exactly the reservation time I desired for our large group. Our table was ready upon arrival and were encouraged to enjoy the progression of the meal at our own pace. We ordered almost one of everything on the menu. The portions were plentiful, the presentation was simple but not careless, and the quality of the ingredients to the taste of each item was outstanding. The only recommendation I have is for better clarification or identification of items upon delivery, but this could just have been our table's confusion given we ordered so many different items. Overall wonderful meal made possible by the caring chef(s) and high quality serving staff.09/02/2013 00:00:00Delicious food, relaxed atmosphereI had seen that The Drapers Arms secured 21st place in the UK's top Gastro Pubs so we thought we'd give it a go. The 'shabby chic' pub and upstairs dining room have a lovely relaxed, unpretentious feel about them with attentive but not 'in your face' waiting staff. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it, we didn't feel rushed between courses - nor did we feel like we had to wait too long. The wine was very nice too - we had a carafe of Rioja. It's a shame they don't do cocktails but I had a nice glass of Prossecco instead. We loved the little touches like the old fashioned knives, forks and breadboards and generally had a thoroughly nice time - would definitely recommend.02/02/2013 00:00:00Gastropub food with flairExcellent food & service.
The rustic bread platter was a good way to start the meal.
Would like to see more fish options on the menu and salad starters.27/01/2013 16:00:00The Sunday roast was deliciousThe Sunday roast was delicious - definitely order the sharing slow cooked lamb!22/12/2012 16:00:00Great pubBooked a table in the upstairs restaurant for a Christmas get together with friends - the food was fantastic, and the service was brilliant. Liked the fact that the dining area was quite minimal. Big chandeliers, but rickety old wooden chairs...we all loved it as it wasn't stuffy in the least. Would recommend it to everyone, and will definitely be going again!20/12/2012 16:00:00This is one of London's bestThis is one of London's best gastropubs at the moment and worth a special journey from those non-Islington residents that have yet to try it. The bar snacks are worth the trip alone (a warm and soft yolked black pudding scotch egg particularly) but the dishes are all beautifully thought out and well executed. The menu is always exciting and the frequent inclusion of sharing dishes for 3 or 4 (such as a deliciously meaty pie I enjoyed last time) reminds me greatly of the fare at the Anchor and Hope in Waterloo - perfect for a cozy afternoon by the fire with friends. The set menu is great value at lunchtime although service - whilst invariably cheery - can be a little slow if you're wanting to get in and out quickly. Nonetheless, a real gem.13/12/2012 16:00:00Great dinner and lovely pubGreat food, staff very nice, the dining room is beautiful, would definitely recommend.27/10/2012 00:00:00Interesting menu, good cookingNice ambience to this unpretentious and imaginative gastropub.03/08/2012 16:00:00A really wonderful evening.A really wonderful evening. Fine wine and delicious food - would definitely recommend the steak tartare!
The portion sizes were big so our only issue was that of over ordering! The staff were very friendly and the prices were exceptionally reasonable considering how much food you got for your money!
Will definitely be going back again soon.23/03/2012 00:00:00
