  • "We ate at The Chequers on Good Friday and both my boyfriend and I were blown away by how good the food was. The food was what you would expect from a fine dining restaurant but the ambience was laid back and informal. It is the perfect combination. The staff were attentive but not over bearing and the bill was fair considering the quality of food. However, I would consider this restaurant a place for special occasions. If you do take a visit to this restaurant, definitely try the lamb scotch egg...it's something special!"

  • "The meal at the Chequers was exquisite. I had three courses and each course combined an exciting and adventurous combination of flavours and food. It was like a Michelin star restaurant. I am not sure whether there is a new chef, but he/she is taking gastro pub eating to another level. I have been many times to the Chequers and always expect high standards and consistently good food, but this meal was outstanding."

  • "I cannot recommend the Chequers more highly, we had a fabulous roast dinner on Sunday afternoon. The choice of roast was unexpected and included sharing roasts, the presentation of he food was wonderful, and the waiting staff were extremely attentive, welcoming and accommodating. We had a lovely meal and whilst it was a little pricey it was well worth every penny. Thank you!"

  • "Had Sunday lunch at The Chequers during a weekend in Bath to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Lovely dining room, attentive staff and great food."

  • "Great food although not a large choice, particularly for vegetarians. Service from our waiter was very friendly and clearly he was busy and could have done with some help from the manager who didn't engage. Some of our party had chunky chips. They were nothing like anyone had seen before, more roast potatoes and far too many on the plate giving the appearance of a rushed presentation. The evening fell a little flat at the 12.5% service added to the bill. This is top end prices, in a pub setting. Food great but it's still a pub type setting."

  • "Coming from London we enjoyed finding this understated friendly gastro pub. The food was great-- excellent ingredients and innovative preparations. Reminded me of the type of cooking you see on MasterChef professionals"

  • "We have been to The Chequers a number of times and it never fails to deliver on service, quality of food and atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly without being over the top as most places are these days and the food was, as usual "top quality", delicious and beautifully presented. Our favourite place to eat in Bath!"

  • "We were looking for something special and this pub certainly did not disappoint! The staff were very friendly and polite and the food was outstanding. The beetroot and blue cheese starter was something I would expect in a high end restaurant and the presentation was beautiful and elegant. The pork belly was so tender and came with a perfect crispy crackling and the banana and caramel dessert with ice cream was to did for!! I am only sad I do not live close enough to eat here more often but for sure will call in again if I ever come back to bath."

  • "Highly recommend dinner at The Chequers, great atmosphere, fantastic surrounds, good service, some wonderful wines and the food was excellent. We will be using The Chequers on a regular basis from now on. If you are in Bath this is a little gem. If the weather is right sit outside."

  • "Burgers were raw at the centre. Fat chips were a bit under cooked. Fish rather oily. Puddings very pretty on large plate but actually very small despite high price. Very nIce staff. Disappointing. Not been here before although local. Sister pub the Hare and Hounds is always good and reliable."

  • "Great food, large portions, good service and chilled atmosphere. Beef sharing for two is recommended."

  • "We sat upstairs which was lovely as we could see the chefs preparing all the meals. we always had our glasses topped up, the water was always available too. Extremely friendly staff who couldn't of done anymore for us but not too in your face at the same time. It was fully booked which was a good sign too. Would defo recommend it to friends and family. A great afternoon all round."

  • "I booked as a surprise for my wifes 40th Birthday. This was our first time visit to the restaurant. I had checked online and found good reviews. Couldnt decide what to have so the waitress made some recomendations. What a great choice, not what we were expecting, food was excellent, presentation outstanding. Will definately be eating at Chequesrs again. Great dining experience."

  • "Eaten at Chequers many times but first Sunday lunch. As always it was excellent food and service. Highly recommend"
    dined on 19/01/2014
  • "Amazing lunch, ingredients were fresh and tasty - good food served hot which is not always a given. Unfortunately there were lots of children on tables either side who made loads of noise and were running riot which ruined the ambience slightly. Service was fantastic."

  • "I would be a regular. Great food in a cosy setting. Staff was friendly and attentive. They have a truffled macaroni cheese side that my teen daughter will be dreaming of for ages."
    dined on 28/12/2013
  • "A pub that serves very good food just off the beaten track of The Circus and The Crescent. Whilst not trying to be too clever (excellent fish and chips with mushy peas) it also serves very considered dishes (scallops on smoked pork belly with a cauliflower puree and deep fired cauliflower florets) so keeping the children and parents happy. Avoid the centre of town - there's much better to be eaten only 5 minutes walk away."
    dined on 21/12/2013
  • "An early evening visit and we found the staff to be welcoming and attentive, without being over the top. The food was flavoursome, particularly the salt and pepper squid. Quite an interesting wine list at reasonable prices."

  • "Very nice pub, with good food and Service, I would certainly go again."

  • "Excellent quality food, creative cuisine, good service. Very good value for money and exciting composition of meals. Only downside: maybe a bit too loud."
    dined on 14/12/2013
  • "This is a pub. It is not fine dining. But the menu offerings and prices think it is. My wife's pork was poor, as was my venison. We were upstairs it took 15 minutes to ask for the bill, as no staff came upstairs. The only nice thing we ate was the calamari and this was off the pub menu."
    dined on 13/12/2013
  • "First time at the Chequers, really enjoyed our meal, food was fresh and really tasty. Would recommend."

  • "Booked online after searching out Michelin-recommended restaurants in Bath having spent all day visiting the Christmas market. Arrived early so enjoyed mugs of hot mulled wine outside as restaurant was packed. Atmosphere was lovely with a roaring fire and the service was attentive but not over-bearing. Menu was varied and we all struggled to pick what to eat. I had scallops with smoked pork belly and apple which was cooked to perfection followed by the game pie and chips which was definitely more than just that! I would return solely for the dessert, banoffee aranchini. All dishes were beautifully presented and executed, a wonderful find."

  • "We visited the Chequers twice in two days a few months ago and thought it excellent. This time I booked a few days in advance but the table was not ready when we arrived, we had to wait about 10 minutes and then no one told told us it was ready, though we guessed it was ours and took the initiative in sitting down. I didn't have a starter, though my two companions did, and the main course did not arrive until an hour after we sat down. Apparently this was because there was a large party upstairs - not our problem! We were disappointed as on previous visits we were much impressed. The food itself was very nice but such a long wait rather takes some of the pleasure away."

  • "Hidden round the corner from the Royal Corner and The Circus this unimposing, simply decorated, small restaurant packs a good punch. A good menu with fantastic food delivered promptly without pretention in a cosy but pleasant atmosphere."

  • "Lovely atmosphere and decor. Sat near the fire, cosy. Our table was a little cramped for 6 people. Everyone felt the food was delicious. Top quality. Service was very good."

  • "Great food and brilliant that a roast is served later in the afternoon not only at lunch."
    dined on 17/11/2013
  • "An informal and cosy gourmet pub, with that bit extra ambience. Some of their regular dishes (fish and chips!!) are wonderful and their puddings are to die for and presented like a work of art. The service is always friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend this restaurant BUT you have to book as it is very popular. I have been for Sunday lunch in the past - yummy!!!!"

  • "Well known for its Sunday lunches this was our first experience and we found their reputation well deserved. It would be difficult to better the roast lunch at home! As well as individual portions, sharing portions for two are also available. The lamb share was plentiful as were the roast beef and pork. Excellent vegetables too. There was a good "buzz" in the bar and friendly, attentive service."

  • "We visited the Chequers last Sunday and all very much enjoyed our food. 3 out of 4 had the roast dinners and they were lovely."

  • "I have been to several times before and as a rule of thumb have enjoyed the food and most importantly found the staff to be super nice. This time round I am bringing 4 friends from London for a Sunday Roast. the menu online sounds amazing. The staff are as I hoped really friendly. It was disappointing to have to wait for 10 minutes or so for our table as it was ready for us. Also annoying to be in an upstairs room next to a large party of 20.It meant we were forgotten a bit by the waiter. They tried to help with our request to move but could not, a shame as I love the downstairs and had booked weeks in advance. When the roast arrived, after a wait much of the rest was forgiven. It was delicious. Fantastic selection of veg and super tasty."

  • "From the moment you walk in the door it is warm and welcoming - very friendly staff (although not so much to be overbearing). Sunday lunch (Belly Pork for him, and Chicken for me) was beyond delicious, the natural flavour of the meat and vegetables were celebrated focal points of the whole plate, enhanced by the other elements (such as the delicious gravy and creamy bread sauce). The wine (French, can't recall the name) was delicate and complex and was most definitely worth the money! Desert (Chocolate fondant) was equally amazing and bursting with flavour, and not too big or heavy after such a generous main meal. Only negative is that Bath is so far from where we live that we can't pop down to The Chequers every Sunday!"

  • "We were provided with a delicious well presented Sunday lunch. The food was all well cooked and presented attractively with good helpings and accompanyments - the Yorkshire puddings were large and delicious. This was a real treat for the family on a special occasion. I can highly recommend."
