A word from The Bull - Highgate
We’re proud to welcome you to a great public house re-opened for the enjoyment of the local community.

Through the experience of the owner, and his carefully constructed team, we have created a pub where you can meet friends, eat with your family or come for a quiet pint, whilst experiencing uncompromising standards of service, food and drinks.

Also, because we genuinely believe the heart of a great pub is amazing beer, we’ve installed small microbrewery in the pub. Click here to find out about the fledgling London Brewing Company.

We look forward to extending you a warm welcome at the Bull, and hope to see you soon.

  • "We had a great time at the bull- the food was really nice, and the service was really good. These were an interesting selection of ales, and they did a great sampling menu (served in thirds of a pint), so you could try them all! The restaurant is a little pricey, but it is worth it. I will be back again."

  • "The Bull is consistently good - fantastic beer list and very sound food. The burger is so good that we often ignore the rest of the menu though my friend said the fish was excellent too. We always enjoy the sharing boards as a starter too. Service is always really friendly too."

  • "Dined in the restaurant upstairs for the first time. Great kids menu and good quality food. Definitely recommended"

  • "We live in Highgate and this is one of our two go to pubs when we have visitors, don't fancy cooking or just need an excuse to go to the pub! The service is excellent, staff are friendly and children are well catered for. We were 4 adults, 3 kids and a baby in a buggy and there was plenty of room for all of us. The Sunday roasts are delicious, I had the roast pork and my partner had the roast beef both accompanied by Yorkshire puds, roasties, carrots and some lovely red cabbage. No dessert for me but there were a couple of lemon tarts on the table which disappeared in seconds! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and check out 'Wings Wednesday!'"

  • "I booked online for myself, my wife and our 2 teenage sons. Booking was simple and efficient. We were allocated a table in the upstairs restaurant which is an attractive and spacious room. We all ordered the roast as we'd seen one being served on arrival which looked good. I had the beef, my wife the pork and our sons the chicken and lamb respectively, so we tried all the options. No one was disappointed, all the meals came with plenty of veg, yorkshire pud and, most importantly, decent gravy. 2 shared puds were lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful despite the fact it was Mother's Day and they had been rushed off their feet all afternoon. With three beers (excellent) and soft drinks the bill came to 80 quid plus service. Recommended."

  • "Upsatirs table for dinner, needed another pair of hands to serve tables. Young chap did his best though. Menu ran out of a few items which was annoying. Despite that, freindly staff, nice atmoshphere, good food. Will be back"

  • "we often come to the Bull, but this recent time, was not good at all. they say they do roasts all day, but really, it's better to go for lunch, when the meat is fresher and there's more of it. we had roast pork, which was 3 tiny pieces of dry pork, with a plate full of carrots and broccoli. pretty rubbish for a roast dinner. at £15 a roast, i don't think this is good value at all. we would go back as we like this pub a lot, and it's local, but definitely not after 1pm, when the food clearly runs out."

  • "This is a nice pub for the local community. Staff are friendly and the food is cooked to a good standard and comfort food. There seems to be quite a following of craft beer in this pub."
    dined on 16/03/2014
  • "Great friendly atmosphere and good quality food, with a mix of traditional popular dishes (excellent fish&chips, steaks and and hamburgers) and seasonal dishes which are changed on a regular basis. A vast choice of beer, including home-made ones brewed in the facilities at the back of the pub!"

  • "It's a real shame, because this place was great but it's slipped. I keep giving it another chance to get better, but the last three times we've been it gets worse each time, so no more. For some reason it's really hot, really sweltering in the evening. I've complained but they just shrug and say "we know". The service is very patchy too. And it's noisy, not buzzy and atmospheric, but shouting in your ear noisy. If you do go, get a table upstairs, where it's quieter. And don't get the cheese board, it's tiny."

  • "Had great lunch here with family in dining room. They looked after us really well, esp our 2 year old daughter. The bar was packed but dining room was quiet. Good food at very reasonable prices. Plus Golders Hill Park over the road or the Hearh nearby make for excellent walks. Heartily recommend."

  • "Went for dinner with close friends who are food snobs and they loved it too.....! In house brewery - excellent taste (try the ginger ale). We were given a fascinating tour of the brewery on top of a lovely dining experience. Overall a comfortable country pub atmosphere with good food and personable service. We took a chance as it seemed to easy to book and felt very much rewarded! We will def be coming back on a couples basis but would recommend for groups too, particularly if brewery tour is an option!"

  • "Great find - the food was incredible and the waiting staff were friendly and helpful. We were a group of four for Friday dinner and will go back."

  • "Lovely varied menu, good tasting food coupled with good service. For the beer lovers there is a great selection of real ales!! Can not go wrong on a visit to The Bull"

  • "We're repeat visitors to The Bull and it's hard to fault the superb beer selection and excellent food. Quite simply, I think this is probably the best place to have a meal in Highgate. Service is always friendly and professional. Highly recommended."

  • "We had a really nice Sunday lunch, with a classic roast that could not have been better. Nice atmosphere, but a little confused ( although very nice) service. A big bonus was the nice barman that provided tastes of the ale produced by the pub- they were also good!"

  • "Hadn't been to the Bull in it's latest incarnation so gave it a try. Very pleasant Sunday lunch (roast pork, fish and chips, and chicken goujons kids meal). Robust portions. The drinks part of the menu is HUGE. In-house brewed bitter and cherry-flavoured Belgian beer were both rather pleasant. Nice, efficient service."

  • "We (group of four) chose The Bull from the reviews on Toptable as we were visiting Highgate and did not know the area at all. When the food arrived, a Stilton and Walnut salad was minus the Silton and Walnut; two other meals (Cod with Risotto) came with fish raw in the middle and risotto that you could cut with a knife. These were returned and fresh food was cooked. Second attempt was very good. In-house brewed beer was excellent. Conclusion; the restaurant was absolutely packed such is it's popularity, so the food generally must be good as the numbers speak for themselves, but unfortunately our experience was very poor and we would not return or recommend. Maybe we were unlucky but at these prices we shouldn't have the rely on luck."

  • "I personally didnt actually dine on this occasion, I was the one who organised it but then I fell ill! However my 5 friends went ahead without me so I can give you their feedback. They loved the pub and said it has a great atmosphere. Those who had the roasts all agreed it was the best yorkshire pudding they have ever had, and really good gravy, on the downside the rare beef wasnt very rare, the nut roast wasnt very nutty and the roast potatoes were quite hard. One person had the fish and said this was fantastic. Overall they had a great time (while I lay in bed suffering) and will definitely go again (hopefully with me next time) but keeping fingers crossed for a slightly better roast potato!"

  • "Having booked using Top Table's online booking facility, I was not to know Monday's are quiz night's, so our cosy fireside table was surrounded by quiz enthusiasts, when the quizzer plugged in his microphone we couldn't hear the waitress speak, she suggested we might like to move upstairs to the slightly cold empty dining room. When our food and drink arrived we had an agreeable evening with the waitresses charming and thoughtful. They made a note to see if Top Table booking service could flag up a quiz night warning, had their booking manager had any wits they might have seated us in the beautiful upstairs dining room in the first place, and heated it up a bit, plainly the wood burning stove parked beside us, when fitted would do that."

  • "We booked for Sunday lunch 3 people with a dog. There were no problems, dogs readily accepted and the lunch was excellent. Parking is available at the rear of the restaurant but there are 3-4places so arrive early. I would recommend the Bull to anyone interested."

  • "My partner had had an indifferent experience at The Bull previously with a large group, but friends had recommended giving it another chance. Online booking made earlier in the day was easy and our table for 4 was ready and waiting on a busy evening when we arrived. Service was excellent, attentive without being cloying. The food was good if unspectacular - the pork belly was very good, my sea bass a bit disappointing as it was slightly overcooked - but overall no complaints. Nice beer/wine selection. The pub was busy but didn't feel crowded or over noisy which made for a good ambience. Bill was roughly what we expected, pretty good value at around 25 quid a head including drinks and 2 shared starters and we will definitely eat there again."

  • "One of the few gastro pubs that still retains a cosy pub feel. Please don't ever change! There are so many other local pubs (like the clissold in muswell hill) that were so good at the food they forgot they were a pub and the ambiance and atmosphere changed when they redecorated... The Bull currently has hit the spot with great food and a cosy pub feel combined. Good work!"

  • "This was my first visit to The Bull since its many re-incarnations from a sad, unloved pub that needed a lot of TLC some twenty years ago! A wet, wintery post Christmas meal with friends was on the cards and The Bull did not disappoint, either in ambience (upstairs, cosy), very friendly service (unlike some other nearby establishments), food, beer and wine. A pleasant surprise was the fair pricing, quality of food, served hot, and a menu that we are told changes daily, from some stable pub offerings to something a bit more special. I look forward to a few more winter evenings and on the way out met an acquaintance who I hadn't seen for 2 years who commented on the good food, fair prices - from him that is praise! Great to see The Bull back."

  • "This new year we headed to the local pub the bull and were so pleased we chose this venue - Firstly the room when we walked in was exquisitely decorated and lit to give a beautiful welcome and ambience. As ever the service was attentive and inconspicuous throughout the evening. The menu was amazing we had the scallops, venison and pork dishes all left us wanting more, beautifully balanced dishes and the accompanying wine a Viogner was perfect recommendation by our waitress. The cheese board and dessert rounded off the most perfect evening and I would like to thank the staff at the bull for putting on an amazing evening with attention to detail. We cannot wait to return for our next meal we love this pub and highly recommend it to others."

  • "We always choose the Bull because they are very welcoming to dogs and we love the food and atmosphere. Having eaten too much turkey we chose fish and chips and the vegetarian option, which were great. The staff are delightful and we enjoyed a few drinks downstairs after the meal upstairs. We will revisit again and again."

  • "Lovely food, great staff, lovely atmosphere. Will def visit again x"

  • "The Bull provides the best of both worlds...a cosy, friendly pub downstairs and a lovely restaurant upstairs. The welcome and service from the staff was great throughout, including a good wine recommendation. It was the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed but romantic meal, especially near Christmas."

  • "The Bull is good for an informal meal - and they are very nice to dogs too."

  • "We booked here for the pub quiz and some dinner. It's a great pub, with really friendly welcoming staff, a great menu of really well done food and a micro-brewery to compliment the already huge menu of beers. Really fun pub quiz with a nice mix of questions and a really fun compare"
    dined on 02/12/2013
  • "Slightly apprehensive as I'd read various reviews about the rude, offensive manager, but in the event we sat upstairs and the two girls who looked after us couldn't have been nicer. Food was all good, gastro-pub fare, and I'd say the quality of cooking was definitely better than average. Ox cheek was soft and rich in flavour, and the T-bone steak was enormous very tasty. Generous portions meant no room for desert. Would probably come again."

  • "Very good food, good service and a fire on a cold evening"

  • "I visit this pub often and love it. The food is great as is the atmosphere and one is never pushed to move in a hurry. They even do loose leaf tea so I have sat in the garden in the summer reading my book with a pot. Monday quiz is great fun. If I lived a bit closer this would be my local., but I'd be here every day so probably good that I don't! I don't drink beer but I guess the fact it's a micro brewery must please those who do."
    dined on 23/11/2013
  • "A perfect place for a Friday night and real ale too."

  • "A delightful friendly venue where the owners have cleverly created a great pub atmosphere which combines with an excellent informal restaurant. Attentive helpful staff are always appreciated in restaurants and The Bull does not disappoint. It's popularity must be largely due to the truly superb food. I had Duck Confit which was sublime."
