The Broad ChareFantastic choice of food availableFantastic choice of food available on specials board an in addition, what I think is becoming a house speciality bar snack, an unbelievable delicious Scotch egg!! The Scotch egg in itself is worth visiting for but main course was perfection also and was chosen on recommendation of the waiter who description matched the dish exactly – it is not often that the staff can display such knowledge of the daily specials but on this occasion the young man surpassed himself!08/05/2013 00:00:00Great placeMy husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our night at broad chare. Our food was gorgeous, matched with a perfect bottle of wine. The guy serving our table was spot on, attentive and friendly. We will be back for sure.04/05/2013 00:00:00Great as alwaysAnother fantastic meal at the Broad Chare. Make sure you order the bar snacks as well. Slick service, lovely food, friendly staff & so looking forward to our next visit - already booked.20/04/2013 00:00:00Great eveningWe went for a family celebration on a Saturday evening. The service was excellent and a great choice of food on the menu.20/04/2013 00:00:00Everyone loved it!There were 7 of us ranging from 73 to 13 and meat lovers to vegetarians and we all commented how wonderful the menu selection was and how delicious the food was. There is a menu in front of you as a placemat plus a blackboard with "specials". It was really hard to decide especially with the local seafood. Highlights to consider are Haggis on toast with duck egg; deep-fried monkfish cheeks; crab; calves liver; roast cod & a very tasty burger. The daily pie of the day was chicken and ham (as it was a Saturday) which interestingly was the only chicken dish on the menu. This suited us fine. Really nice food. Smiling service team. Who could ask for more. Congratulations Broad Chare20/04/2013 00:00:00Tasty FoodWe chose a few of the bar snacks and a few small dishes from the lunch menu. All were really tasty and well presented. As Arnie said ' I'll be back '19/04/2013 00:00:00Another great mealThis is the fourth time I have been to broad chare. There is always a great buzz about the place, the service is great and the food as interesting as it is excellent. Well worth a look...19/04/2013 00:00:00Great Sunday lunchSunday lunch was fab, definitely recommend and will be going back14/04/2013 00:00:00TerrificA terrific evening. A drink in the cosy bar downstairs started the evening off well. I would recommend the 'Writer's Block' draft beer which is brewed exclusively for the Broad Chare by the local Wylam Brewery - a wonderful pint! The bottle of Pinot Grigio was also excellent value. The table was reserved in advance and was waiting for us when we moved upstairs to the restaurant. Service was excellent but special mention to Steven who was exceedingly helpful, informative and friendly. We all went for the burger with REAL chips. Absolutely terrific and superb value. The litre of house red wine completed a perfect evening. We'll be back!30/03/2013 00:00:00Great night, great fiodHad a great time, staff very friendly and helpful. Not pushy; gave us time to chat and then choice from the menu. Total experience lived up to expectations. Will definetly visit again18/03/2013 00:00:00birthday treatFirst visit to this restaurant and will definitely not be my last. Everything was first class and the atmosphere was lovely. Have already recommended this to several of my friends.16/03/2013 00:00:00Excellent Food & DrinkHad an excellent meal a few weeks ago here, food and service was great - we had mussels to start and the home-made pork pie and for main we had the steak burger and fish and chips - all were amazing and would definitely come back again soon! Would recommend to everyone.15/03/2013 00:00:00Great MealStaff were friendly, food was delivered on time and looking amazing. Everything was cooked perfectly and taste delicious, couldn't have asked for much more really. Only minor critique would be a limited menu choice!10/03/2013 00:00:00table 5The choice on the menu from the bar snacks through to the deserts is extremely well thought out and the standard of the cooking is such that we'll definitely go back when next in town.09/03/2013 00:00:00Fabulous food!Have eaten here a few times & once again had a great time. Food fabulous, excellent friendly service, good choice of beer & wine. Keep up the good work Team :)08/03/2013 00:00:00Great atmosphere and promptGreat atmosphere and prompt service in this traditional looking gastropub with wooden floors and tables. The real ale is fantastic and the food very good. Great location just off the quayside where there is plenty of buzz.03/03/2013 00:00:00Unusual foodI love that the food is a bit unusual; like pig's ear and tounge. The service is impeccable, and no special requests are too difficult. Very accomadating.Great atsmosphere in old surroundings. Can be a bit crowded.03/03/2013 00:00:00Always a good mealWe have used Broad Chare on a number of occasions because it has a great selection of beers and wine and the food is consistently very good. Always feel we have had good value for money and the menu changes regularly so there is a chance to try something new. Another of Terry Laybourne's gems.23/02/2013 00:00:00Great evening out.The food was excellent and the menu was a good mixture of regular and more unusual food eg oxtail, pig trotters etc.
Service was very attentive but not too much and food came out quickly.16/02/2013 00:00:00ValentinesFab evening. Food was perfect with no set menu in sight :). Food was outstanding. We both said it was the best meal we'd both had in a significant amount if time. We ordered rib of beef for 2. It was cooked to perfection. Was surprised at the volume of accompanying side dishes. The wine was good quality and not overpriced. We have recommended The Broad Chare to friends and are in the process of organising another visit. I'm very particular when I eat out. Food has to be high standard along with good service. Ten out of ten for me ... Outstanding!14/02/2013 00:00:00Another 1st class meal. TheAnother 1st class meal. The liver was fab. Thanks for the voucher!!09/02/2013 00:00:00Another excellent meal! TheAnother excellent meal! The bar downstairs is an excellent place to start the evening. I can recommend the Writer's Block draft beer, brewed exclusively for the Broad Chare by the local Wylam Brewery. The bottle of Pinot Grigio for our small party also went down a treat!
We had pre-booked the table mid week - essential for a Saturday evening as it is extremely popular! We both went for the burgers - home made with real quality beef and accompanied by the full works including home made chips......to die for!
Special mention to Stephen for excellent, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful service . A lovely night.09/02/2013 00:00:00Wonderful food, good wineWonderful food, good wine list and excellent beer. Great atmosphere and service.08/02/2013 00:00:00Outstanding over allWe booked well in advance for a table at 8pm on Saturday evening and it was worth planning in advance for. The ambience in the Broad Chare is welcoming and warm, the service was efficient and friendly and the food was incredibly good. I'd thoroughly recommend the restaurant to anybody and we look forward to going back again ourselves.25/01/2013 16:00:00Meal at the Broad ChareI'd been to the Broad Chare last year for a Christmas Party and the food was excellent. My wife and I decided to go back to celebrated our birthdays in January. The food (we had the Rib of Beef for two) was excellent and the wine was very good as well. The Broad Chare also has an excellent selection of beers, lagers and drinks downstairs in the bar which allows you to have a few drinks before and after your meal.
Overall I was very happy with the food, would definitely go back.25/01/2013 16:00:00Excellent - as always! The last time we ate at Broad Chare was for Sunday lunch a few weeks ago which was excellent. This time we had been to the cinema first. We enjoyed a drink down in the bar first - would highly recommend the 'writer's block' specially brewed beer. Then upstairs to the restaurant. We all chose the burger which proved to be an excellent move. Always a good sign when you are asked now you want it cooked. We opted for pink. Absolutely delicious. The home made chips were also superb - real chips, deep brown and so tasty. We a.sl opted for the house wine - again an excellent choice and great value.18/01/2013 16:00:00Laybourne classicTypical Terry Laybourne classic. Always reliable, with great sevice, beer, decor, and most of all food.12/01/2013 00:00:00Fantastic Rib of Beef!Excellent, food service, as ever! Every meal we've had has been fantastic. We'll defitinitely by back again.10/01/2013 16:00:00Great British Food ExperienceAn excellent way to celebrate my 68th birthday with a family party of 6. Food and service was excellent and the starters of scotch eggs, pork pies and oysters is somewhat unique. Steak and kidney pie at £44 for 4 took some eating and 2 people enjoyed home-made burgers. Total bill including beer, wine and food was £147.
The only negative was that I left a tip of £8 since, in the dim light, I was unable to read that a service charge of £13 had already been charged.08/01/2013 16:00:00Tasty FoodVisited the Broad Chare on New Year's Eve, food was excellent and service was very good as well, especially considering how busy it was! We would definitely go back!30/12/2012 16:00:00Broadly speaking...This was my 5th visit to the Broad Chare and the experience as all others was very impressive. The food was exceptional as was the attentive service and I thoroughly recommend it.30/12/2012 16:00:00A pleasurable dining experienceWe visited the Broad Chare on New Years Eve, the place was buzzing with a great atmosphere. The service throughout was excellent, attentive and friendly and this was staff at their busiest!!!!!

We will definitely be back , I can see this being a favourite!!!!!!30/12/2012 16:00:00It was the weekend beforeIt was the weekend before Christmas and yet still the Broad Chare continues to deliver on its food and service. Ambience wonderful and it was packed but still the staff were attentive. We arrived and our table for two was beside some young children and a large group, immediately, without us asking they suggested we could move. We had steak and it was beautifully cooked. Would recommend over and over!22/12/2012 00:00:00Fantastic food and service!Group meal before Christmas with 8 people, including 2 teenagers.
Nice menu and range of options. Comfortable dinning environment and helpful and friendly staff. Fantastic quality food and good size portions. Had scotch egg (a bar snack) as starter - runny yolk and lovely! Will definitely be back and would highly recommend to others!17/12/2012 16:00:00First visit but not the lastWent with a friend on recommendation, and we were very impressed. Relaxed, lively atmosphere and excellent service from very pleasant staff - and the food was absolutely delicious. No hesitation in recommending Broad Chare - it's not the cheapest, but you pay for quality and that's what it deliversl16/12/2012 16:00:00Return visitWe were very impressed first time around and have returned many times. This is our favorite place to eat now and we get here at least monthly. Service is perfect, attentive, helpful but not intrusive. They say they are a pub with a Kitchen but this is so much more. Go, you won't regret it. Never had a bad meal or service in about 10 visits.17/10/2012 16:00:00How lucky we are to have TheHow lucky we are to have The Broad Chare in Newcastle,if only every pub worked along these lines the UK would have a much better reputation for dining.30/06/2012 00:00:00always reliably good pub foodWe were there at 9 which is not a time we would choose to dine normally, the restaurant room was very noisy. there were several large groups in, and one or two noisy tables pushes the noise level up. the room would benefit from some booth style seating with wall divisions between them to break up the noise a bit. we asked if we could move downstairs to the quieter bar to eat there, the service staff were happy to oblige and we had a lovely, quickly served meal in the bar. the food is always fantastic. Would recommend the crab toast.23/05/2012 16:00:00Great to experience propperGreat to experience propper british pub food served restaurant style05/05/2012 00:00:00The Broad Chare is a stylishThe Broad Chare is a stylish eaterie with such a broad choice my friend and I were quite stumped. Opting for a tapas style array of small dishes we had a great meal. The staff were lovely too.05/05/2012 00:00:00The broad chare in newcastleThe broad chare in newcastle upon Tyne is a lively and noisy pub with wylam beers and a good wine list. Upstairs in the restaurant is good pub grub, superbly cooked in a room full of animated diners. A popular weekend venue for a not so quiet drink or meal. The menu had a specials board which unfortunately had not been updated with the items that were no longer available, We were able to tweak the existing menu to include veg with our burger. The waitress was delightful, she made our evening.01/03/2012 16:00:00
