The Balcon Ratings and Reviews
I took 3 guests with me from my office but unfortunately the restaurant was exceptionally busy and for the first time ever after many previous visits the meal was disappointing and not up to their usual standard. Staff coped with their usual excellent care.
I totally enjoyed the innovative Food paired With exellent wines. The service was impeccable and the Whole party were very satisfied.I truly love to come back.
This was my second visit to the Balcon I loved it the first time and I was not disappointed this time. I was treating a friend and we both agreed that we could not fault the food or the service We had three courses, glass of wine and coffee for £25 a head. Unbeatable value for money Looking forward to my next visit. Thank you Balcon
Good value in a lovely setting
We have been to Balcon several times before and we love it and this time we took friends and they thought it was very good too. The setting and service is excellent and the food very good and really good value. We'll certainly go again.
Not good. Confit duck was wretched.
Atmosphere/ambiance was nice but food was awful. Would never go back. Duck confit with barley in broth was awful. I wanted crunchy confit duck. Instead it was just a mess of luke-warm duck meat mixed with snow peas, steamed kale, barley and broth.

Every thing! One of my favourite places to eat. The deal is always great value, being able to choose a starter and dessert from the main menu gives a great choice
A nice evening - eventually!
We had a great time and the food was decent and excellent value for money; but the booking experience was pretty awful. When I arrive I was told the booking was for 2 people when I had booked for 4; I found out half an hour after the time we booked that our guests had been sent an e-mail saying the booking was an hour later than we had booked for; so they arrive an hour later and we were all starving! But the restaurant did pull out the stops in terms of service and didn't hassle us to free the table - in fact we were there until well after 11 pm.
Another great meal at Balcon
4th or 5th time of visiting and glad to say not disappointed. From the pre-dinner drinks in the bar to the 3 course meal plus wine deal, all very slick with friendly not intrusive service and lovely food. One of my all time favourites when inviting friends for special get-togethers.
Service and staff superb. Food was sublime. We will be back.
ThecBalcon for dinner
Food was a bit pre prepared. My cassoulet was dry and tough. If with Open table be sure to mention before the meal as they don't seem to have a record when you book . Overall OK but over priced. Cocktails were fantastic!
If you like theatre,go there. The waiters and waitresses will amaze you.
bliss @ The Balcon
The Balcon is almost next door to the National Gallery yet so easy to miss if you don't know about it - and its well worth knowing. Quiet, polished serviced with excellent food and the many fixed price menus all offer great value, unhurried eating in central London. Try it
This is fast becoming a favourite especially for me, I find it very difficult to find a restaurant in the West End that will find gluten and dairy free options. All the staff are very helpful and really friendly and very understanding. Our waitress on our last visit was Anita she went out of her way to liaise with the chef to make really fantastic options for me, a wonderful chocolate desert made from avocado, in most restaurants I have to miss out on a desert, so good there I've booked two more visits.
Great Service and Welcome feel
This was a return visit and it did not disappoint. The staff were most attentive, helpful, informative and courteous. The food surpassed expectations. This was a set menu and the standard of presentation and quality was very good indeed. My friends who accompanied me say they will definitely recommend.
A mid week pre-theatre evening outing. It's a good venue, in the right place for the theatre district. But when you look around you could be anywhere in the world in a large international hotel. We were on a fairly tight schedule but we were looked after well. We opted for the set menu 'the market option'. When you read the menu it looks as though it is only served at lunchtime... but it was on offer ..if you ask for it. The food is well presented, nothing bad.... nothing special. Don't bother with the bread, you'll be disappointed. The wine selection is good, by the glass and carafe. Very reasonably priced. It's OK for quick business meals, when you know the customer and you just want to eat and talk.
When we arrived our table was not available and we were taken to the bar and told we would be called when the table was ready. Forty five minutes later we asked about our table, the barman said it was ready, the manager said it was not. A further ten minutes and we got our table. An iPad was then plonked on the table which turned out to be the wine list - pretentious and unnecessary because the wine list was quite limited. Our starters came quickly and were good. Forty five minutes later we asked where our mains were and were told very offhandedly they would be few a more minutes. When they came they were very disappointing. Puddings were OK. Altogether a very disappointing and expensive experience which we will not be repeating, and no one there seemed to care.

Food delicious as always and the set menus offer reasonable prices. Tonight the staff weren't very smily but understandable given the events in Paris. They were attentive and professional.
3 course for £35 with glass of Prosecco
I booked this for my friend and I thinking that it was a good deal but it really wasn't! The starters weren't very flavoursome! For the main you were only allowed to order from the market specials which weren't very fresh or nice and as there was only 3 the choice was limited; and the profiteroles were actually stale! My friend had the vegetarian option which was essentially just boiled veg with cous cous! Not representative of French cuisine at all!
The Balcon - always great service!
Been a number of crimes and never disappointed. The special menu is great value and the food still outstanding.
beautiful relaxing dinner
Service was outstanding and food was really nice. Slight on the pricey side but good fora night out and special occasions.
delightful service but terrible food
Lovely service from start to finish. However, the bread was stale, squid starter was awful and main course was insipid. Good coffee but too little milk provided. I was a little embarrassed to have brought my friends to eat here, my previous outing with an open table deal was great so this was disappointing. I don't think I will be back I'm afraid, things have clearly gone awry in the last six months.
A gem in Piccadilly
The Balcon is a beautiful restaurant with a feel of timeless elegance . The set menu food was good although not outstanding .Service was excellent . The only disappointment was the wine was v expensive even by London prices

We enjoyed the meal - it was of good quality but was let down by the limited choice. It seems to be geared for quick meals or working lunches rather than evening dining. We have never been to a restaurant of this standard which didn't have a cheese board on the desert menu.

WE had a reservation at 6 on Sunday. Initially, service was attentive, so food arrived fairly promptly. Later though, the restaurant was busy, probably full, and service was non-existent. To get our bill and our coats, we had to leave the table to ask for them. A good start to the evening, but an unimpressive end.
Amazing, the food and service was world class
loved this place last night, the staff was attentive and friendly. The food was a very high standard and would come back. We used the 3 course £25 offer and we were not left disappointed. The atmosphere was delightful too.
fantastic food and brilliant service, an amazing combination

Good food quickly served before the opera. Not the best value in the area, but a beautiful ambience, passable wine list, and solid french cuisine. I just think there are better steak frite for the price! Won't stop me coming again though!
Relaxed friendly atmosphere
Good deal on the set menu, friendly accomodating service and lovely food. Ideal location to get away from the shopping frenzy
nice place, lovely staff
I went to the Balcon for lunch with a friend. We have been numerous times before and always enjoyed it. The Opentable deal is pretty good value for money, one criticism; the choice of main courses is very limited. My friend is gluten and dairy intolerant and although the the staff are very good generally, they go out of their way to adapt the dishes to suit her. In addition the dining room is very pleasant with a nice atmosphere. All in all a good place, at reasonable prices for lunch.
Poor experience and poor value for money
We arrived at 7pm and asked if they had a table available as our reservation wasn't until 8pm. After a long deliberation despite many empty tables we suggested we would wait in the bar. The bar was full and no one offered us any assistance so we went across the road to the far more relaxed Villandry St James's (I wish had stayed there to eat). When we arrived back, we were sat right next to the kitchen doors despite again there being tables available. The service was slow and the menu was unappealing. I understand this was an offer but as value for money goes it still left a bit to be desired. The atmosphere overall was nice (we have been before paying full price) but we just got the feeling that we were not being treated as regular customers because we were using the Opentable offer. Overall it was disappointing and we decided we wouldn't be going back there even if we were paying full price. As value for money goes, try Kensington Place where the quality of food and value for money is excellent!
Favorite all time
Service is great. Food excellent. Location best. I eat here all the time.

The food was nice enough and the staff were pleasant. However you can get much more in London for this sort of price. Staff although pleasant were not very attentive. If you want something similar go to the Northall Corinthia instead which is much nicer
The Balcon is a sheer delight for a relaxed and elegant evening of dining. The atmosphere is superb and the staff provide excellent service. I have dined there before and look forward to every visit. A highly recommended venue.
most enjoyable evening
very nice setting in the heart of town. The food was excellent and a great choice of starters and desserts.
An enjoyable overall experience
We did the OpenTable exclusive dinner deal: 3 courses & a glass of wine £25. The starter and desert choice was good and we liked the food. The main course choice is really too restrictive - one meat dish, one fish dish and one vegetarian dish. Given the nature of the deal I wouldn't expect a huge choice but think that it's reasonable to expect two meat and two fish dishes to avoid being faced with nothing on the mains menu you want to eat. If it hadn't been for this, I would have been inclined to give the restaurant an extra star on 'overall', 'food' and 'value'. The included glass of wine was a choice of two. We had the Sauvignon Blanc and it was delicious as was our main course wine - the Malbec (not included in the deal) which, rather strangely came in a 500ml carafe, as did all the wine on the menu.
Lunch to celebrate a friend's 80th birthday
Travelling up from Gosport to surprise a friend for her 80th birthday, we were welcomed and shown to our table by very friendly staff. The restaurant was busy, mid week luncheons being taken. The food was delicious, the main courses are very filling. The only downside being that we didn't know that some of the dishes were served cold and we didn't realise, nothing on the menu to say. Desserts are to die for, set menu wine was good and full bodied - merlot - White Sauvignon blanc was dry and cold. We had the wine and coffee option set menu lunch and thought that is was very good value. The dessert was topped off with a birthday platter complete with candle for the birthday girl - no need for singing :) . Service was included in the bill and for once we didn't mind, service was excellent- thank you for making a birthday girl ( and friends ) very happy
Charming French ambience and service. Spent unhurried Sunday lunch (don't be in a hurry). We didn't go outside the set lunch so great value in one of best locations in London.

I had dinner with my wife and Food was great Service was excellent Ambience was perfect A perfect dinning experience
What a wine fest
A tranquil feel, very relaxing. Sat below the amazing huge wine cooler. Great selection of wine found by using a tablet. Service was top class very attentive . French onion soup was outstanding . Chose a boiled dish main. Boiled bacon, sauerkraut , and boiled potatoes . It was nice but I should have picked something else from the menu as all sounded so yummy. I would go again to try another dish.
