Diner Reviews
  • "We had a lovely tasty meal (2 adults and 2 teenagers) before going to theatre. We all enjoyed the food and with the staff interested in our visit it made a great start to the evening."

  • "Lunch at The Balcon, the food was ok but nothing special. So many other better restaurants in London"
    dined on 19/04/2014
  • "The Balcon is a customer-focused, professional operation. Everything from the service to the food is done well. And making diners feel welcome done best of all. The Balcon is an excellent venue for a special meal. "

  • "Fantastic service, all staff very courteous and polite. I would not hesitate to come back. "

  • "Excellent value for a pre theatre dinner , with good choices and a very fair price. £18 for two courses of this quality of food is an amazing find in London. Highly recommended.Your waiting staff must be amongst the best trained in London. A lovely start to the evening."

  • "Very good lunch with fast and pleasant service. The goat cheese tart was wonderful and the john Dorey fish with ratatouille excellent."

  • "I've been to the Balcon once before but that was for dinner with friends. This time it was lunch with a business colleague. We chose from the Marche menu - good choice and good value, although it's amazing how £18/head for a two course meal becomes £40/head by the time you've had a glass of wine each, some water, a portion of veg, coffee, and added service. The service was frankly outstanding, food pretty good, and I'd definitely go there again. The hotel and interior design of the restaurant is wonderful - great place to impress a client without going OTT. "

  • "I had been here for Toptable deals in the past and the food was always excellent. This time I found it to be bland and uninteresting. The confit of duck had soggy skin on it and the cheese platter for dessert was poorly presented and the hard cheese was very dry and clearly not fresh. I won't be returning in a hurry. "

  • "The Balcon is a great place for lunch. We really enjoyed the food, service and didn't notice the time as we were enjoying ourselves longer than we planned. "

  • "We booked the TT offer as a pre theatre venue on a Friday evening having enjoyed my last experience here having afternoon tea. The staff again were so welcoming and could not be more helpful. The meal was delicious and it was a shame we did not have more time to spare before going to the theatre. We would definitely visit again!"

  • "Really interesting venue, we ate early as had plans later and restaurant was quiet but didn't feel empty. Service excellent without being overbearing and nothing was too much. We ate from set menu and I had ginger soup which was tasty but bland without adding my own seasoning. I had gnocchi for main which was very good, no something I normally enjoy but was right choice. My friend had beef which although tasted good was very overcooked and dry and he was disappointed with it. Superb wine list, very pricey but had a superb malbec for £40 which was worth the cost."

  • "The staff were lovely, however the food to table time was very long... the food was okay- lacked the WOW factor."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "I only wish that I lived nearer to London so I could eat here more. I really enjoy a good value, well-cooked "menu" and the Menu de Marche here is certainly that combined with good service in pleasant surroundings. What more can one ask?"
    dined on 03/04/2014
  • "Delicious meal with great service in a lovely setting - what more could you want ? This central London restaurant offers good food at an affordable set price offer....."
    dined on 12/04/2014
  • "Very nice setting & staff, got gluten free bread for me & looked at other desert options than those listed on menu that were not suitable. Only thing would say is some meal options you pay extra on top but that didn't appear on the menu just the bill... Ie lamb £4pp more. We also looked at the menu online late the night before but it had changed by the time we went the next day which was a bit disappointing. But delicious meal all the same."
    dined on 07/04/2014
  • "Lovely surroundings, different style to other restaurants. Service was excellent-attentive without being pushy. Had the 3 courses with coffee for £23 which was very good value although the drinks are very expensive so be careful about what you order-it would probably work out cheaper to pay extra and have a glass of wine etc. included. Food was ok-could have been more flavoursome however the service and surroundings more than make up for that!"
    dined on 10/04/2014
  • "We had a wonderful lunch with some friends. The service was excellent as was the food and really good value"

  • "We took friends from overseas to The Balcon, pre-theatre, as it's a favourite of ours. One of the things we like about this restaurant is that it's open from late morning until late evening, so pre-theatre is easy as you can book as early as you like, which means you have time to chat as well as eat without rushing. The food is really delicious and there is lots of choice on the a la carte and set menus. Wines, too, are excellent. Our friends requested their fish to be taken off the bone and this was done expertly and without fuss before it arrived at the table. The twice baked cheese souffle with lobster and brown shrimp sauce is exquisite! Service is charming and efficient and the ambience is elegant and relaxed. Lovely place."

  • "We had a great evening in the Balcon - we really enjoyed out dunner and drinks, Anthony the waiter was good fun but always polite - go there and have a great night"

  • "Excellent as usual! Great service, atmosphere and good food!"

  • "We started off having drinks at the bar as they have a good cocktail and gin selection. The food on the set menu was varied, with about four choices per course and had options for everyone."

  • "Great food, well served and with lovely subtle flavours. The place is so beautiful and with a good atmosphere."
    dined on 27/03/2014
  • "Took my mum here for Mother's Day, and she was very impressed. The service was great, with some lovely, attentive staff; the food top notch. For such a classy place, it was not stuffy at all, and actually very good value with the set menu. Recommended!"
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "We eat at The Balcon fairly regularly and are always impressed with the consistency of the food and service. It's always great to have a cocktail or two in the St James' bar first! Food quality and choice is great and The Balcon remaims a firm favourite."
    dined on 31/03/2014
  • "We had a fantastic evening and were treated extremely well. We started by having a couple of drinks at the bar before continuing on to our table and we were impressed by the service at all points. The food was fantastic, not too small but tastefully presented and packed full of flavour. Would recommend The Balcon absolutely"
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "The service was excellent. The selection of sandwiches was ok, not outstanding. The gluten free options were excellent."

  • "Highly attentive staff, beautiful surroundings and fantastic food! Will be returning!!"

  • "We booked The Balcon for a meal after watching Phantom of the Opera at her Majesty's theatre. We arrived around 10.30. We had both forgotten our spectacles so were unable to read the wine list or the menu. The waiter was very helpful and friendly and we managed to get the food and wine ordered. All were good choices and excellent. After the meal we asked where we could find the taxis, and it was no trouble for them to call us one, which arrived within minutes. Would definitely go back again, it was a very special night, made extra special by the Balcon"
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "I have been to The Balcon several times now, and it is always a pleasure. On this occasion however, as far is the food is concerned: I ate of the Market Menu, and have to say the Cheese Board was a little "tired"; the cheeses themselves were a little "old", and the celery was quite limp :-( That said, I will remain a regular visitor here :-)"
    dined on 28/03/2014
  • "A dinner here is a good experience. I eat there several times each month and I don't have a single complaint. The service is outstanding."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "Two starters were order, I got the wrong starter, probably because the waiter did not understand me. I highlighted that I had not order it and after a few minutes they came with the right one (my guest's pea cream had gone cold by then, no attention to detail - both should have been served at the same time). My starter, a grilled sardine had bones in it that got stuck to the back of my throat! My main, a risotto, was like a sugarless rice pudding, tasteless and difficult to swallow, it actually made me feel ill. Finally, my creme brulee came with a muffin that looked very industrial and, in any case, it did not match the creme brulee at all, it felt like they wanted to add something to make it look better - and it did not! Never again!"

  • "Smashing service, attentive but not intimidating, good food."

  • "Pre theatre before Fatal Attraction at the Theatre Royal needed to be something special as it was Sinks Birthday. We'd eaten here once before and I'd favourited it. However, my memories of excellent service only surpassed by high quality fayre were even more excelled by this experience. This time we entered through the hotel reception which is quite stunning in its design and feel. Already I felt a great evening coming on!! The greeting was warmer than last time and the helpful staff had a glint in their eye when I mentioned my partners birthday. We didn't eat of the theatre special menu which was extremely value driven and still tempting for two courses or three courses and a glass of house champers! Bargain. We are coming back soonest!!!"

  • "Great food, great service, great ambience - would certainly go again and highly recommend"

  • "We had lunch at The Balcan with my boyfriends parents and it was really good. we loved the staff who were ever so tentative and the food was really amazing. We were all very impressed and look forward to coming back soon."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Waited 25 mins for the first cup of tea, which was cold. The second cup was also cold despite sending the first cup back. Scones are lovely and fresh."
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Not a place to visit on a Saturday night with friends as no real atmosphere. The food was good in parts. The Sea Trout on cabbage and carrots was nothing different to what I wcould cook at home and the fact that our main course was brought to the table seconds after they had removed our starter plates did not help my disatisfied experience. One of the others dishes was cold inside and had to be sent back!!"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "I booked the table for a dinner with my girl friend with a special offer and it was around 70 pounds for 3 courses with a glass of wine. As South Korean, it will be really hard to find this kind of 5 star hotel restaurant with a great value in Seoul. We chose duck breast and trout from set menu with lentil soups as starters. The portion of the foods were relatively bigger than other similar restaurants offering set menu. The duck breast was amazing and the trout was quite nice. We tried a glass of house wine (one white and one red) and the quality was excellent. We all had one of a most wonderful dinner in a beautiful restaurant and was not hurried at all."
    dined on 20/03/2014
  • "I took 2 American guests who absolutely loved the decor, the food and the service. The starter of dried, cured meants was particularly good."
