Diner Reviews
  • "Booked here for 4. Food was excellent. The staff were really friendly and helped us through the menu (and were spot on with their recommendations both for what and how much to order. Will definitely be back."

  • "Simply delicious. I'm not the biggest fan if Indian and have no taste for a sloppy curry but the food was amazing here, starters with the seafood salad and the scallops and then followed with the seabass and side of lentils. It was a beautiful meal with faultless service. I would highly recommend."

  • "Overall: fair food, incredible service The appetizers were unique and - we got the papdi chaat which had tasty blueberries. The aloo appetizer was fair and lacking a sauce. Unfortunately, for our main course we got the eggplant dish and a paneer dish. The paneer we had asked for was makhani and although it wasn't on the menu they said they can make it without a problem. The paneer was undercooked and had not absorbed any of the flavors of the sauce. It was almost like they just stuck it in there. The eggplant was fairly spicy and just ok. We did not opt for dessert but they did bring us something anyway, a chocolate mint leaf that was heavenly and a chocolate truffle. The service was fantastic and the ambiance was nice."

  • "Amazing food and service, have already recommended it to friends"

  • "The food was amazing but it was overshadowed for me by a mistake with the wine order. I asked for the Argentina Malbec think it was £32.. So when they brought the wine they showed me the bottle but I was busy chatting to my son so just nodded. Anyway our meals weren't excessive so I was surprised the bill came to £170 but I paid but was surprised. The next morning I checked the bill to see why they and given me a corbec at £78.50 so the service charge at 12.5% was an extra £6 due to the difference in the wine so it cost me 84.50 never in a million years would I spend that on wine. So for that reason the experience was spolied"

  • "Food was absolutely amazing.Indian with real class"

  • "We dined on a Friday night and the restaurant had a buzz about it. Lovely table in the middle of the restaurant and the service was first class. The food was without exception excellent, my personal favourite was the Lamb biryani. In terms of style, my opinion was that this is less 'fine dining food' and more 'real substance'. All in all, fantastic."

  • "Living in Spain we were craving good Indian food and were not disappointed. We choose one of the set menus, which was an excellent way to try many of the dishes and we were not disappointed. The portion size is very generous without being excessive and the wine list was very good. Overall a very good dining experience and on our next trip to London we will definitely return."

  • "We don't live in the UK but visit annually and Tamarind is a must on every visit. We have never been disappointed with any dish that we have ordered. Highly recommended."

  • "We had the pre-theatre menu and it was all fantastic. When we ordered two different starters they offered to split them onto both our plates so we had a bit each. When we complemented them on the white chocolate mint leaf they serve after the meal, we were told how exactly to make them and tips and advice on doing so. Amazing service and great food. Highly recommended to friends and family!"

  • "At Tamarind on a Friday evening. Messy service, not up to required standard. Very noisy place. Food is average, albeit very expensive compared to quality and complexity (or rather lack of) meals. A one-off."

  • "Service was quite good, meal took a bit longer To come out than I thought it should, food was Tasty people were frindly."
    dined on 19/03/2014
  • "Late Saturday evening and din of a busy service rushes to meet you as you descend into bowels of the restaurant. My first choice main course of lamb shank was finished but the waiter suggested a king prawn curry in a spicy coconut flavoured sauce. I cannot thank him enough, 7 large shelled prawns in an unctuous spicy sauce was most enjoyable. The rest of the meal including my wife's lamb Gost was of a similar high standard. The dining room at Tamarind is functional and in my view hasn't got the wow factor as some more illustrious Indian restaurants, but Tamarind excels in the impotant areas as both the food and the service is up there with the best."

  • "This is my 3rd time at Tamarind. I usually go for the Shahi Dawat which experience to date has been better. This time i was the Dawat and presentation ws really poor. It looked like something served at home. For the money charged ( and I could compare to another Mayfair Indian) it was not real value. I dont think I will be going there again unless someone else reserves."

  • "Fantastic service. The waiters were very attentive and courteous even though one of our party was late. Papdi Chat - sublime. Very pleasant evening - goegeous food"

  • "Best Indian food I have ever eaten. The flavours were perfectly balanced and sophisticated. Absolutely delicious."

  • "I treated a couple of friends to lunch as a "thank you" and we chose the tasting option of the set menu with wine. We enjoyed at least 9 different dishes plus pappadoms, rice and naan. We experienced outstanding flavours with superbly matched wines and first class service. Absolutely delighted."

  • "Most top Indian restaurants are excellent and invetive with starters; the main courses are mostly mediocre - it here that Tamarind excels as the best in London."
    dined on 06/03/2014
  • "The food was absolutely superb!! I couldn't fault the meal whatsoever. We had three courses; all of which were extremely tasty. The only negative thing I have to say is that the restaurant could do with some modernisation and the ambiance isn't great. However, this would definitely not stop me from going back."

  • "We have visited the Tamarind in Mayfair a number of times and each time the experience is wonderful. Staff are attentive and do not assume you know about Indian cuisine. They are eager to describe each dish and will help you choose according to your own personal taste. The sommelier knows her wine and will help in choosing what will accompany your choice of dish. In short, a very satisfactory experience. Whenever we visit other Indian restaurants we judge them by "The Tamarind Standard"."

  • "...they overcharged £12 on the bottle of wine we had, without any cogent explanation beforehand or afterwards when I noticed. Strange, given that the clientele in that neighbourhood will have an eye for numbers!"
    dined on 01/03/2014
  • "I took my parents here for dinner to celebrate their Ruby (40th) Wedding Anniversary but not one of us enjoyed the meal. I ordered the lamb shank which looked good, was cooked well but incredibly bland in flavour. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant."

  • "Everything about Tamarind is sophisticated. Elegant surroundings, discreet staff, fabulous food..... a real "must""

  • "Lovely food but house wine at £16 a glass? Really? Possibly it's a case of 'if you have to ask the price you can't afford to dine here'. Dine modestly to keep the bill below £200. If you push the boat and you are not on an expense account...be prepared! Delcious food though!"
    dined on 20/02/2014
  • "A perfect dinning experience - from being greeted at the door, to the attentive staff and the subtleness of food flavours - a an excellent dinning experience - and I look forward to my next visit. Well done Tamarind."

  • "Very good food - the lamb shank was highly recommended by our guests. Good wine selection. Vegetarian options were quite good - could do more. The tandoori paneer starter was magnificent!"

  • "Service was excellent and so was the ambience but the food was average and lacked the flavour of a michelin star restaurant."

  • "I is always got the same quality of food and service,I love to eat there every time I come to London But this time the lady in the entance wasn't very nice the way she talked to us. I wish if be treating the Costner in better way."

  • "Food was excellent, and the flavours were very good as well. Staff were attentive, but not overpowering. Will visit again when in London."

  • "Truly wonderful restaurant and service Is excellent. I have been several times before at lunch and was always impressed. I took my husband Monday evening, we went for the set sathi dewar menu which was about £70 per head without drinks so pricey but I would say worth it. The good was lovely, we had plenty and after the 3 rd course. (Main) waiter asked us would we like any more. My husband was well impressed and we will be going back. Ideal for a special occasion."

  • "I was very excited about dining here an thought the veg options were very good. However, a few hours after the meal I woke up in the middle of the night with severe stomach pains which I believe were the result of cross contamination of food. I was very disappointed."
    dined on 31/01/2014
  • "Good food and service, but nothing particularly special. Surprised it has a Michelin star."
    dined on 14/11/2013
  • "Choosing the largest menu will leave the guest allmost surated before the main course, and can not be recommended. Its IS very good indian food, but it is NOT on a Michelin star level. Rethinking and developing a modern indian fine dining experiance, is a handfull since, the basic food itself is so tasty. Therefore in my view, the restaurant deserves credit for the quality and taste of the food, but nothing more. Since the Indian kitchen is based very much on vegetable-dishes, its seems odd that you get a overwhelming intake of meat protein, and do not get a better guided tour of the many interesting variations of veggie-dishes in the cusine."

  • "The team/service you get is pretty good/as you would expect from a place like this. They were cordial and helpful is providing a small desert for a bday as well The food is good however seemed very tailored to the western pallet ie salt and spices were a bit on the low side for my taste. We primarily tried the veg options, barring the prawns (which were good) - so maybe the meat is better."
