Diner Reviews
  • "Fantastic setting. Great food. Great value. Wonderful place"
    dined on 09/04/2014
  • "Was kept being told that's sold out and what was on offer was very small portions and poor quality food. Staff had no idea what was going on, We had to complain three times. There was 6 of us in our party and 3 meals came out then ten minutes later the rest of our meals came out. Been here twice now in a week and no improvement on second visit."

  • "Go to the Smugglers, It's the best pub/Restaurant in the area. As a local we go to this pub all the time, it has a great location with outstanding elevated views across the bay. Food and service is always excellent, and it was no exception on this occasion. My wife and I dine at the best restaurants in London and around the world, we enjoy Michelin Star cuisine regularly, of course the Smugglers is not a Michelin Star restaurant, but the food represents great value. We take our baby and our labrador, the staff are always friendly and welcoming. It can be busy in the summer so we always book."

  • "Great food, great location for a good old fashioned pub walk!"

  • "Booked a table for a birthday lunch with my elderly parents. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The table service was excellent. Attentive, friendly and helpful. My wife has a gluten intolerance and the waitress was immediately able to produce an allergy advice breakdown of the standard menu which was colour coded to made it very easy to order something suitable. The food was served promptly and was very good and the portions were plentiful but not overbearing. Deserts were also very good. All in all we enjoyed a very nice afternoon lunch."

  • "I was alarmed to see DOGS in the restaurant not just 1 but 2 ?????????? If people want to take dogs to the restaurant they should leave them outside or eat outside them selves."
    dined on 23/11/2013
  • "We went for a Sunday roast and duly ordered 4 roast beef dinners from the rather brusque waitress who seemed to be in a huge rush all the time!. 3 of the meals arrived within 15 - 20 minutes and were warmish, the 4th took another 10 minutes to arrive and it was stone cold! (our waiter was busy with someone else, looking for a big tip we wondered?) The meal's owner stood up and marched through the fairly full restaurant to return the offending meal to the bar as all the waiting staff had disappeared! When the 4th meal arrived this time it was a little warmer but again not hot! The beef was edible but the red cabbage was awful! It would appear to be oak smoked and full of vinegar..... Not good! We won't be back!"

  • "Good location to drop the car, walk into Bowleze Cove, or Weymouth along the cliff foot path and return for an evening meal. Good was excellent. Only pity was they have dropped the pies fro the menu. Go early as they sold out of a lot of dishes..."

  • "My fiancé and I went here on the last day of our holiday and we only wished that we had found it sooner. We booked a table online for the two of us as we didn't know how busy it got which was very easy and straight forward to do. When we arrived we were greeted with the amazing view from the car park and the beautiful cottage like building. We walked in and were greeted with a very warm welcome and roaring fire. We were quickly seated, given menus to peruse and ordered drinks. We couldn't find fault in any of our food. Both had three courses, portions were very generous. Loved the fact they had mini desserts so even the fullest of the full could fit one in. Would recommend to all and we will be returning to Weymouth just to go here again!"
    dined on 25/10/2013
  • "We had dropped into the Smuggler's for a coffee at lunchtime on the day we arrived in Dorset to check it out as we'd booked dinner there that evening. Lunchtime was absolutely heaving, great ambience and everyone appeared to be having a good time. Therefore, when we went there for dinner that evening, it was a shock to see it so quiet. However, the food really was excellent (I can recommend the Blue Vinney & mushroom pasta) and we make our own atmosphere. We had a great evening. The staff are very efficient and very friendly. Would definitely recommend it."

  • "Smugglers Inn is full of character in a fabulous location, food and service wonderful, would definately go back again and again"

  • "We have visited this pub once before and we were back in the area om holiday. Now a family of four we wanted a nice Sunday lunch. My son's children meal was good which was grilled chicken and we swapped the potatoes for chips. Staff were v willing and helpful. Husband and I had roast beef. Which overall was lovely. However the portion size of the beef was a bit stingy. One slice.....We had upgraded to a large portion for roast so wander how much beef you would get if opted for smaller appetite. Probably less veg. We had pudding which was delightful. Would still go back and loved the choice of food on the menu"

  • "My husband and i booked a table for a Friday evening we arrived early but were able to go to our table straight away as it wasn't too busy.We ordered drinks and then the food. The food arrived very quickly which we didn't mind as we were very hungry. The service was very efficient but a little bit too much sometimes and we did feel a little bit pushed through. But on the whole we had a very enjoyable experience."
    dined on 20/09/2013
  • "The Smugglers is a venue that has a great reputation and is in a fantastic location, however as soon as you get there you have to pay £5 to park for 3 hrs or £10 for up to 5 hrs (£5 is reimbursed from your meal). This seems over the top and leaves a bad taste in your mouth before you've even ordered! The food itself is reasonable, but no where near as good as we were expecting - nothing that most other country pubs offer. There were no specials and a very limited vegetarian choice. The service was efficient but that was it - no smiles, no discussion or recommendations, and no real attempt to clear up when the waitress spilt one of our drinks on the table (and onto one of our laps!). I won't bother returning!"
    dined on 03/09/2013
  • "An atmospheric pub near the sea, serving good beer and good food. The outdoor experience is good too - lots of tables and food served to you there. Try it - you'll like it!"
    dined on 23/08/2013
  • "Great food, excellent service and excellent atmosphere. Just one little problem, they ran out of most of the desserts on the menu and it was only 8pm. More stock required?"
    dined on 22/08/2013
  • "We booked for a 7.30 meal on Sunday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our first requested main course was no longer available. There was an hours delay for all main courses. The waitress kept returning to ask if everything was OK and was unable to immediately update us on the remaining delay. A table that had arrived after us were offered complimentary drinks as compensation. Needless to say we won't be returning in a hurry."
    dined on 11/08/2013
  • "The inn was excellent, the food, the drink, the atmosphere all great. The problem was the 45 min wait for food."
    dined on 21/08/2013
  • "Having enjoyed a great meal last year we booked in advance and brought my wife's parents. We were looking forward to it, but were unfortunately left very disappointed. Although we booked, we were told there was a 45 min wait for food - this turned out to be an hour. We were sat in a drfy as apparently ll the doors had to be open as there was a problem with the heating. The menu was very restricted and many of the specials were sold out. When the food arrived it was very verageWhen it came to pudding, our first two choices wre sold out as well, so we decided not to bother, ask for the bill and left. It is obvious that this pub has got too greedy and put more tables outside than the kitchen can cope with."
    dined on 18/08/2013
  • "We were only able to book for 4:45 but really want to sample the evening menu...so next time it will be better! Thank you!"
    dined on 17/08/2013
  • "Only slightly as it wasn't all bad. The service was very attentive although a little difficult to understand with the noise from the adjoining table. We ordered the bread board but were disappointed to received sliced normal bread of different thicknesses, I ordered the feta salad and although printed containing tomatoes only came with 1 cut in 4, lots of feta and only 2 olives very poor salad for £9. Other diners ordered the small lasagne and were surprised just how small it was..... This pub is difficult to get a table so booking on toptable was excellent, but the pub seems to have lost some of its charm and is purely trading on past reputation. We were pleased it was dog friendly though... Sad to say we may never dine there again"
    dined on 17/08/2013
  • "We had a 1 1/2 hour wait for our food, and we had booked in advance. We will not be coming back in a hurry."
    dined on 03/08/2013
  • "Firstly on arrival my partner and I could see that is was packed full of people...which isn't normally a bad sign. Went to front of house where they showed us to our table only to be told that the food was going to be an hour's wait for.after looking at the menu and ordering some drinks ...we both decided that for sure the food was going to be over an hour wait as there were a ridiculous amount of people wanting food before us . The noise was so bad I could hardly hear my partner from across the table. We then quickly decided that this place was definitely not for us and that we weren't prepared to wait this long for the food. So we cancelled our drinks order and asked to leave."
    dined on 03/08/2013
  • "Dog and child friendly mean its ideal place to stop for coffee/lunch/ afternoon tea, as it's set in an idyllic location a short distance from the coast path. Service was good, and as I had booked before arrival (via FB which was easy) we had a very good table. Chose the 2 for £20 lunch which I thought represented excellent value for money. Will be returning again."
    dined on 30/07/2013
  • "The smugglers inn is situated on the beautiful dorset coast, the views from the inn are second to none. The inn itself is a really lovely building and has a really friendly welcoming atmosphere. The food was excellent as a large group we ordered a variety of dishes all of which were perfection. The coastal walk and cove is perfect for a walk after dinner and the beer garden is full of tables and quiet corners that are perfect for relaxing in on a summers evening. In short if you are visiting dorset go to the smugglers you will not be dissapointed."
    dined on 19/07/2013
  • "A group of 3 visited on a Tuesday evening at 8pm with a booked table for 8.15 we were a bit early but they seated us straight away. Gave us a few minutes and took our orders. Food and drink came very quick Food was excellent but a bit of big portions! All good prices nothing over priced Staff very helpful and kind Would visit again Thanks Lauren"
    dined on 23/07/2013
  • "all greetings staff very courteous as was the waitress. Nice to see staff equipped with two way radios both for their safety and customer relations. Although early evening ( 1845 ) establishment was getting busy, Small car park if people do not park sensibly this plus £5.00 (redeemable over bar if spending £15.00 plus) deters use of parking and causes bottle neck on narrow approach road. This was not our first visit but first time booked via toptable which made it very easy"
    dined on 19/07/2013
  • "The staff were friendly and accommodating for our burthday meal."
    dined on 13/07/2013
  • "There seem to ve very few restaurants in the Weyouth area that are not purely 'pub' food. This is an exception. Good original fooed ' well presented and excellent service. A joy in a week of bland choices from surrounding areas."
    dined on 05/07/2013
  • "We have been here on many occasions.. food always nice and great surroundings. Service was great to start although after the main meal it lessened a bit and became very slow on this occasion. Bar staff friendly and very quick with drinks service. OVERALL it was a good night out . Will go again but would like dining room service to remain good throughout not just at the start."
    dined on 04/07/2013
  • "Lovely oldy worldy public house with great menu. Highly recommended and excellent service, including cute doggy treats."
    dined on 12/06/2013
  • "We've had a very nice meal at Smuggler's Inn last Sunday. The service was pleasant and the food was nice but not outstanding. However given the setting and charm of the place I would be happy to go back. It is definitely one of the best choices in the area and this place definitely stands out. The car park has great views over the sea and although you need to pay for parking you can then redeem against the meal at the restaurant which is perfect. There is a lot of outside place and the general vibe is really great. Recommended."
    dined on 09/06/2013
  • "Disappointing for the price, one slice of beef, potatoes reheated badly. It was edible but I wouldn't eat Sunday lunch there again, the sandwich I had there earlier in the week was excellent so I would recommend brunch. The service however was excellent!"
    dined on 09/06/2013
  • "Had a lovely meal here. Great service from waitress Chloe. Great food and great atmosphere and surroundings as always. Shame about an hour wait on the food though but the rest made up for that!"
    dined on 31/05/2013
  • "We booked a table for 7.00p.m. This was the first sunny day this year and the place was chocablock. It is in a lovely spot. As we had booked a table we did not envisage a problem. What we found was that they did not care about pre-booked loyal customers and after a wait of an hour for a starter complained that a cold mezze board could surely be squeezed in, were told gleefully that it would be at least another hour! If I happened to pass by and wanted to eat and was told it would be a long wait that would be my choice to stay or go not pre booked They had my phone number but didn't bother to contact me to warn me. The front of house manager could not have cared less and on complaing faced rolling eyes but not a single apology."
    dined on 26/05/2013
  • "But kinda worth the trip. Obviously much enlarged since its humble beginnings. Seems to be well run."
    dined on 24/05/2013
  • "We were a group of four adults and one 2 year old. We have been coming here when staying in weymouth for a couple of years now and it's always nice. We had the Christmas party meal here last year that was very good. The mini pies are the best meal I have ever had when eating out. Staff and service we found very good also."
    dined on 11/05/2013
  • "To be honest I had a mediocre experience here. Booked for a Sunday Lunch. Upon ordering we were told the food would be 30-45 mins wait and that was for a bog standard roast. When it arrived 40 mins later there were no yorkshire puds as apparently the oven was not working properly.Roast chicken was a half chicken on the bone which for me turned me off too. I had booked for a family occasion with family travelling from Devon. I wish I had booked elsewhere. From a nightmare parking to start with through to bad service and shoddy food a bad experience. Another table of 13 left after being told their food would be 1 1/2 hours! The bill was reduced slightly but then we didn't have what the menu advertised anyway."

  • "The Smugglers Inn has an idylic picture postcard setting, with a cozy interior to match. The staff were friendly and attentive. Our group was celebrating a birthday and the manager and staff were able to 'smuggle' their surprise visitor into the building and set it up for her to bring a birthday cake to the table, to the great delight of the birthday girl! Well done Mike and your team!"
