SkylonGreat for celebrationI booked a table to celebrate my dad's bday and requested if possible a table by the window and something special at the end for his bday. The service was brilliant, got the table by the window and a Happy Bday plate too. It was expensive but great for special ocassions. Recommend it,10/06/2013 00:00:00AnniversaryWhen booking online which was quick and simple, I'd requested a table by the window, which understandably can't be guaranteed. So when we arrived and was seated at the rear of the restaurant I was a bit disappointed however it had been noted and as soon as a window table became available we were moved to it which was just after our starter. The food was utterly delicious and coupled with the impeccable service made the evening a very special one.08/06/2013 00:00:00Buzzing atmosphere, great food.Great venue for parties (family outing for my daughter's 21st birthday) or just a romantic dinner. Grill , bar and restaurant on the same floor. The bar can be crowded but you may as well take your drinks to your table, Friendly and efficient staff. Excellent choice of cocktails (try the Bellinis) and decent menu. (You can have as much bread as you wish without a surcharge!). Overall highly recommended06/06/2013 00:00:00Superb food, slow serviceReally nice restaurant, fantastic and tasty food, great wine list and friendly service. However, despite the fact that the restaurant was not busy food took forever to appear. A real shame as we would have spent more on a desert and coffee given time.06/06/2013 00:00:00Dinner and cocktailsWe had a wonderful evening. The service was fabulous, and the food and cocktails were second to none as always. This is my favourite venue in london06/06/2013 00:00:00Great service and fantastic foodI took my wife to Skylon for a birthday lunch and had a fantastic time. The staff were attentive but not intrusive, the food fabulous, the wine list extensive but with a good spread of prices and the room was bright with a good hum of contented diners.05/06/2013 00:00:00The good services providedThe good services provided in this restaurant amazed me! Full star given to the waiter that served us!04/06/2013 00:00:00Good food, good service, good viewThe Skylon remains one of the best combinations of setting, food, service, and value, which you will find in London. The Festival Hall itself is something of a concrete monstrosity, but you won't notice this so much from the inside. Lunch is a fixed price affair of excellent value. Good choices, decently made, presented and served. Overall, very good indeed.02/06/2013 00:00:00The food here is always reliableThe food here is always reliable and the service is generally very professional and friendly with a few members of staff providing truly excellent service. Lovely views over the Thames and with three distinct sections there is something for everyone, the ambience changing sympathetically from afternoon to evening. The Sunday lunch menu is really great value, very nice food of good quality with professional service for a very reasonable price.02/06/2013 00:00:00Excellent food service andExcellent food service and venue overlooking the south bank/river01/06/2013 00:00:00Birthday to rememberI took a friend to lunch to celebrate her 80th birthday. We were allowed to proceed through three courses and coffee at our own pace. The service was friendly with just sufficient concern, but without being intrusive. The prix fixe lunch menu was excellent value for money and for each course there were three tempting options, all reflecting the season. Goats cheese and beetroot salad starter was delicious; fried haddock main course came with delicate peas and creamy risotto and the desserts were beautifully presented but not too large. Be aware that coffee and tea come with petit fours so you don't really need a dessert as well. Faultless.29/05/2013 00:00:00New Chef - Same Great PlaceSkylon - a name that evokes value, care, commitment and special attention. Just awesome all around whether you eat at the grill or the restaurant or just visiting the bar. everything is done with attention to detail and charm and with a warm smile. The new chef has made his mark with the new menus and has taken Skylon to a new place, great for special occasions or the business dinner "pampering" necessary for those special clients.29/05/2013 00:00:00Good, but pricey for drinksThe food and service in the restaurant were very good. In particular our wine waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. The food was imaginative, perfectly cooked and well presented. However, £9.50 for a pre-dinner single G&T, served in an overcrowded and noisy bar was excessive, even by Central London standards. We would have expected a restaurant of this quality to have its own toilets, so were surprised to find that we had to leave the restaurant and use the facilities provided for members of the audience in the Royal Festival Hall.29/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent food, great view,Excellent food, great view, and fantastic service.28/05/2013 00:00:00Lovely staffWe had Sunday lunch, the food was very nice could have eaten a little more, good value for the fixed price lunch, wine was expensive and a inexpensive house wine would have been helpful - the champagne was good value and was yum. The staff were fantastic. Lovely views etc Worth a visit.26/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent venue, food and serviceSkylon was excellent, I would highly recommend it.
We were lucky enought to have a table overlooking the Thames and the view was stunning. The waiting staff were very attentive offering impeccable service. The food was very tasty and well presented, with reasonably sized courses. Would definitely return.25/05/2013 00:00:00excellent but . . .The experience was very good spoilt only by the strange chair height.
I had Pigeon Breast and my wife Goats Cheese curd. The pigeon was very good the apple and celeriac a little over whelmed by the dressing. The Hazel nut grave was a clever addition to the whole. My wife's goats cheese please her greatly except for the lamination in the pastry.
My Lamb cutlet was has is should be the shoulder perhaps a little over done. The Sweet breads by far the best I have ever had. The mash potato might have been more opulent with the addition of butter. The Beans freed of the inner membrane where a real joy. Both starter and main seemed a little of the cool side.
Deserts were very good I had various forms of peanut and enjoyed it greatly.24/05/2013 00:00:00Good service and the foodGood service and the food could be better & more abundant ! - I really liked it -23/05/2013 00:00:00Birthday treatI enjoyed a very nice market lunch at Skylon with my mum earlier this week. Perfectly cooked food, beautiful presentation, quality ingredients and welcoming service. My haddock was perfect melt in the mouth fish, and my mum thoroughly enjoyed the roast onion tart. Desserts were decadent and artfully presented too. Great value for that level of cooking, highly recommended.22/05/2013 00:00:00Unique locationHad a fine night in Skylon, such a unique setting. Quite noisy but will certainly go back. Tried the Brasserie for lunch also and that was very good also.21/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent service in great locationRight next to the London Eye, overlooking the Thames. Fantastic restaurant full of light with a contemporary feel and beautiful flowers. Food was very good and the service excellent. Would recommend. We went for lunch for a special occasion but whether in couples or groups I am sure you would find this a great place to eat.18/05/2013 00:00:00I went there for an anniversaryI went there for an anniversary meal on Saturday - I booked online and I booked late (the Saturday lunch) and I left a message requesting a window table as it was an anniversary meal. We did in fact get a window table (or the next row down - good enough as the windows and view are huge), which they might have had to rearrange their reservations, and they gave us a selection of sweets with a candle in them for our anniversary - really so lovely and thoughtful!
The restaurant is great - it looks stunning, the view is sensational, the service is brilliant. The food is very good - it's not the absolute best or most interesting you can get in London but it certainly is very good.18/05/2013 00:00:00General CommentMost enjoyable meal with excellent attentive service although Italian English sometimes difficult to interpret. Availability of problem free gluton free food good. Considered prices for food and particularly mark up on wine excessive.17/05/2013 00:00:00The food, service and ambienceThe food, service and ambience are excellent. My partner particularly enjoyed her non-alcoholic cocktail. The tables by the window are very pleasant and the view is amazing. We have now had lunch at the Skylon Restaurant on four occasions and each time have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.16/05/2013 00:00:00Skylon ReviewFantastic views and fantastic food. Perhaps a little too noisy, but it was a Saturday night. Superb cheese board.11/05/2013 00:00:00SkylonThis is the second time we have visited here. As before we loved the ambience, service and setting. The food was exceptional on the first occasion. On this occasion we found the presentation and taste of food also of good quality (the black forest desert was a pure work of art with great taste). but we felt one of the dishes perhaps went too far on the unusual at the expense of wonderful taste - starter with the rhubarb.
The service has the balance just right - formal and professional whilst also being friendly.
Best wishes
Gillian11/05/2013 00:00:00Solid if not inspiring performanceGood views of the Thames, attentive staff, great wine list with knowledgeable and helpful sommelier and a focussed menu. The pre-show option is reasonably well priced and the meal was good but not startling. Venison carpaccio to start with pickled beetroot (very good) followed by Ox cheeks and polenta with parmesan (cheeks nice and sticky but polenta very bland and poorly seasoned). This is a solid venue that is useful for pre-show meals with great views of the Thames.10/05/2013 00:00:00SkylonWe had dinner at Skylon this Thursday night, had a wonderful evening. The venue is fantastic, great views and fabulous bar to enjoy a cocktail before dinner. The staff were faultless, incredibly helpful and attentive. The food was amazing and excellent wine list. I would highly recommend.09/05/2013 00:00:00excellent , but water too expensiveSkylon was an excellent venue for our goodbye meal for a special friend. I had previous re- and post theatre dinner at the restaurant and love, the space and the view on the river. The food was good and the staff as usual were very attentive. My only criticism is the high cost of bottle, Maybe like many good restaurant Skylon should offer their own made water.09/05/2013 00:00:00Brilliant.Skylon is not cheap, and worth every penny. The views were beautiful, the service absolutely five star - discreet, attentive, polite, helpful, not pushy - and the food was incredible. I rate the food, and its presentation, well above much of the top-class dining I've had in Paris and New York. Bravo!07/05/2013 00:00:00Everything's great except for portiOne of the best views in London, excellent service, a great wine list (although not cheap), genuinely outstanding food with one tiny little quibble. The scallop starter was delicious. But it only contained three scallops. Three little scallops. One, Two, Three. And they charged an additional £5 supplement for the privilege. I mistakenly assumed that in 2013, along with bad bankers, supermodel diet size portions had been consigned to the dustbin, but not at the Skylon; which is a shame because the food is really outstanding.
If the management ever get to read this, they should know that one of the reasons we eat is because we're hungry.07/05/2013 00:00:00Special Date, Special RestaurantI love this place, felt very glamorous and contemporary but with a cool fifties look. We sat overlooking the Thames, received attentive service and had a memorable meal, the cheese board has to be seen to be believed! Perfectly cooked, beautifully presented dishes. I had a coffee at the end which came with a selection of, nougat, truffles and Jelly cubes, when I asked if they would put the nougat in something so I could take it home for my Mother they re-appeared with 10 pieces wrapped for her.
Watch out for the surcharges on certain dishes as it bumped the bill up quite a bit, having said that it was still worth it for the special occasion we were celebrating.05/05/2013 00:00:00Meal with a viewFirst time to Sklyon. The reality is I booked it as I wanted somewhere with a view and it does delivery a view, although the weather did make the view a little more grey than I would have liked.
The food was of a very high standard in both its presentation and taste. Even my fussy children could find something to eat which they enjoyed(except desert). The level of service was very good attentive without being intrusive. The level of noise in the resturant is good so you can have a conversation without shouting, which is always a bonus.
Being that it is set on the southbank chances are there is always something happening you can watch the events unfold as you eat. The desert selects could use some work but overall good a resturant.04/05/2013 00:00:00Aubergine 3 Way!I've had lunch at SkyLon before and that was nice - but dinner in the restaurant was in a different league. Great food, excellent service and a really attentive sommelier, who matched courses with glasses perfectly.03/05/2013 00:00:00Business LunchGorgeous venue and great service. Set lunch was very good value and food was excellent. Highly recommended!02/05/2013 00:00:00Sunday 28 April 2103Good Sunday lunchtime menu on offer, and our choices did not disappoint - well presented, interesting and most importantly, delicious. Service was attentive but things went wrong. Asked if we'd like to order more sparkling water, we said yes, but it didn't arrive. I reminded the member of staff - she brought tap water. There was some delay at dessert and a general air of mild panic descended. We weren't too bothered, but apologies were proffered and accepted. Our bill was wrong and we told staff that we'd had two glasses of wine with lunch and that they had undercharged us. They changed the bill but included the wrong wine and still undercharged us by £2. Hmm. Wouldn't stop us going back as the food was wonderful.28/04/2013 00:00:00skylonThis was my second trip to Skylon and it didn't disappoint, but only for special occasions as it's not cheap!27/04/2013 00:00:00Pre theatre treatWe booked Skylon as a pre-theatre option. The menu was just the right size and we were able to get through two courses in under an hour. The service is amazing as is the view. We ended up returning after the theatre and having a cocktail or two as well.27/04/2013 00:00:00Lovely weekday business lunchThis was a celebration meal with a client - we had a lovely table overlooking the river, attentive and polite service, and some lovely food. The TT offer made it excellent value too.26/04/2013 00:00:00Top table 2 or 3 course Set lunchGreat location for business (or social) lunch! Service was good but not brilliant. Nice menu choice and food attractively presented. My only disappointment, if that is the right word is that the £29.00 3 course option ended up costing nearer £70.00 per head, with water, wine (modest choice) and coffees! Nevertheless would still recommend as a great choice and one of my favourite recent meals!25/04/2013 00:00:00Business lunch with a viewTook some clients here for a business lunch. Service was very punchy over three courses, great view of the river, nice food and good value. Overall everyone enjoyed themselves!25/04/2013 00:00:00Great settingWent post concert to the Skylon. Great ambience and service. Food very well presented and an excellent choice of wine.22/04/2013 00:00:00Good food small portionI went with my husband, my parent and my 2 year old toddler. The waiter was very friendly towards us and made my toddler felt very welcomed. The food was lovely but the portion is very small. I am used to small portion with more up market restaurant but this is a bit too small for me.18/04/2013 00:00:00Great service, great food,Great service, great food, amazing views of London.18/04/2013 00:00:00Our second visit to Skylon,Our second visit to Skylon, a lovely spacious and light restaurant with a wonderful view of the river. The food was excellent - we selected the £28 pre-theatre offer and shared a dessert for an extra £4. Both starters - smoked salmon and venison carpaccio- were beautifully presented, light and tasty. The mains of ox cheek and hake were equally good. The rhubarb-based dessert was innovative and delicious. Coffee was served with petit-four. All in all a great meal and we will return.17/04/2013 00:00:00Amazing NightI took my boyfriend here as a surprise and it was wonderful. I had sent a note to the restaurant that this was a special occasion and they really went out of their way to make it a great evening. We had a lovely view of the river, the food was beautifully presented, very well cooked (my hake just melted in my mouth and my boyfriend loved the ox cheek) and the wine we had was beautifully matched. I will returning very soon and would recommend it to anyone even if its just to pop in for a cocktail as the buzz and views of the Southbank are second to none.17/04/2013 00:00:00Nice VenueWent there for Birthday Lunch, had a pleaseant afternoon. Good food and cocktails. Service very good, not rushed to leave, nice view from table of the river, would go back for dinner.16/04/2013 00:00:00We had a booking for 5 peopleWe had a booking for 5 people at 5:30pm. The restaurant opens at 5:30, however we were asked to wait. There was nowhere to wait except the small crowded central bar. We stood up for 10 minutes waiting, rather embarrassing. However eventually it turned out to be an excellent meal in very comfortable setting. Top notch food, though in tiny portions. Wine list extensive but mostly silly prices (like how many can really afford a £150 bottle of wine unless they are on expenses? Nice view of the river. Professional waiters (at least 20 milling around). Worth a visit but not too often!13/04/2013 00:00:00Good value in the heart of LondonCafe des Amis is a great little gem, hidden away in Covent Garden. We had the 2 course menu for 14.50. The choice and portion sizes were really good and there was a buzz that meant you could talk but not be overheard. Service was attentive but not over bearing. A really good lunch experience.10/04/2013 00:00:00birthday lunchThe location creates a great sense of occasion and we were lucky to get a window seat. The restaurant was busy yet the staff were very attentive. I did have to clarify that I had booked a wine inclusive deal however it was only a brief hiccup. The food was beautifully presented, we didn't feel hurried and the timing was perfect for a matinee performance. I felt it was very reasonably priced for the stunning location and the quality of the food. It made a very memorable birthday lunch.10/04/2013 00:00:00
