Simpson's In The StrandA Great Experience!!Going to Simpsons-in-the-Strand is a must when visiting London. Staff are excellent and food is nothing less!!19/05/2013 00:00:00HandsomeWe had an excellent evening meal at Simpson's, taking a booth at the side of the room - a great option for a small family group such as ours. The service, ambience and food was first class.
I've given four stars for value because of the price, but as a special occasion Simpson's is a great choice.17/05/2013 00:00:00yumyumWonderfully dark panelled dining room, evocative of the history of the building. Unobtrusive, friendly service and very good food, although portions on the small side unless you choose the plentiful and excellent roast beef, which is dearer. Most veg. cost extra too but all the food is of highest quality and English. Mercifully no musack or background distraction, just the quiet buzz of conversation.15/05/2013 00:00:00Very Happy BirthdayI took a group of ladies to Simpsons for dinner to celebrate my mother's 75th birthday. The restaurant had been very helpful in advance arranging for easy access to the table and organising a birthday cake. On the night, the staff were wonderfully attentive and friendly without being overbearing, the food was delicious with a range of options for the more adventurous as well as those who prefer simpler food and a comprehensive wine list. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely with the pianist playing in the background and the buzz of conversation. All in all, it was a very memorable evening for all!15/05/2013 00:00:00Revisiting an old friendWe went to Simpsons for a traditional lunch of roast beef.
The food was top notch and the service attentive but not too intrusive.
My only slightly negative comment is that the selection of wines by the glass is a little poor, but this is offset by the very extensive wine list.14/05/2013 00:00:00Simpson's is Roast BeefBest roast beef I ever had, even mum could not compare to this, Carved at your table you chose how you want it, staff were excellant.13/05/2013 00:00:00ExcellentFrom Knights Bar to the Restaurant, everything was 1st class.11/05/2013 00:00:00Beautiful atmospherewe enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere and the lovely music combined with outstanding service during our visit to London. I took the Filet Weelington which was superb and my daughter tried the special roasted beef. Even the Fish was excellent. You shoudl definitely make a reservation at this place!10/05/2013 00:00:00Excellent all roundOpted again from the set menu which is outstanding value and the usual Simpsons high quality. The legendary beef trolley is available on this menu for a small supplement, and the tender juicy slices are well worth it. The food is classic British and prepared and served with care and courtesy. Have been many times and chosen differently each time and have never been disappointed.
Highly recommended.10/05/2013 00:00:00Atmosphere, food and service GREATTraditional British restaurant in the heart of London. Fantastic service in a great atmosphere backed up with good food. Sat next to the piano but, surprisingly, wasn't too loud or distracting.10/05/2013 00:00:00Special LunchThe weekend was my treat to my husband. We stayed at the Savoy and as we love English tradition I thought Simpsons would be a good choice W e were not disappointed the food was delicious and the staff so extremely friendly appearing happy in their work and proud of their surroundings.10/05/2013 00:00:00My 50th Wedding AnniversaryHaving had my first dinner of my married life at Simpsons in the Strand, some 50 years ago, the dinner that my wife and I had on the evening of our 50th Anniversary, was just wonderful. My wife and I were able to experience, again, the wonderful food and ambiance that we experienced in 1963.
The staff were so attentive, and, in all made, the experience, an experience to remember for the rest of our lives together.09/05/2013 00:00:00The genuine LondonIs the restaurant you imagine if you think of London as one of the greatest city in the world. The Grand Divan room is gorgeous, the service is outstanding. Perfect for a special occasion.08/05/2013 00:00:00We had a lovely lunch at SimpsonsWe had a lovely lunch at Simpsons and all staff looked after us well - will definitely come back again08/05/2013 00:00:00Best ever roast beef!I have never visited before but have heard of as family had visited. As a single woman dining on her own I received a warm welcome and given a good table. The staff were very polite and chatty and made me very at ease. I had a lovely Canadian girl serve me, very friendly and helped me choose from the menu. I decided on Lobster bisque to start followed by the Roast Beef on recommendation. All I can say was wow! Great service, beautiful food...and best roast beef ever.
Highly recommend, a must try pace!08/05/2013 00:00:00Lovely and clasicA must in London, roast beef was delicious and service was really nice. I took my spanish boyfriend and he loved it, wants to come back.07/05/2013 00:00:00Always a great treat!!The interior of this historic restaurant is enough to take your breath away. One is reminded of a country boarding school dining room with lots of history. The welcome is always very warm and attentive, the staff friendly and polite. Because we were in a hurry to the ROH we just sampled the menu as opposed to the carvery which must be sampled here. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and said we will eat here more often and definitely recommend to treat yourself in theatreland without paying over the odds. Superb.06/05/2013 00:00:00Good, old fashion Sunday lunchThis place is a particular style of England, in a nut-shell. It's classy - but would be better if they had a sharper dress code - and the food is very good indeed, if you like great beef and Yorkshire pudding and then spong pudding and custard! The wine list is too expensive for most tastes and might be intimidating for some. Is there really a need for that? The staff were excellently attentive and allowed us to wallow in the piano music and "well-stuffed" feeling that the food enduced. Lovely!05/05/2013 00:00:00I have been dining at SimpsonsI have been dining at Simpsons on and off for 28 years and it never disappoints. The food is top quality and the staff are well trained and know their stuff. It is always a wonderful occasion and has its own little bit of theatre.03/05/2013 00:00:00Who got the date wrongDespite my managing to book the restaurant for the 31st instead of the 3rd, they accomodated us with grace.
Pre dinner drinks in the bar was a good way to start the evening. Then to The Divan
Food good, wine fine and service very friendly without being intrusive.
One of the waiters overheard the mention of a birthday and served the desserts with a candle and a chorus of "Happy birthday" from the staff. A nice touch in a very pleasant evening.03/05/2013 00:00:00We met my daughter and sonWe met my daughter and son in law to celebrate the formers 40th birthday.
The moment we walked in we were given a warm and courteous welcome, the decor of the dining room was beautiful and had a relaxing feel.
The service was very good, the waiters were immediately there when necessary but did not hover over you. We sat in one of the booths which we enjoyed as it gave you some privacy.
We had two bottles of wine, one red and one white, both excellent and not over expensive,
The food was outstanding, the best roast beef I've ever tasted, the horseradish to die for the yorkshire puddings slightly over cooked.
My daughter and I had the sharer sweet dish and they were all scrummy!! We will definately be going again03/05/2013 00:00:00Simpsons in the StrandAmazing lunch. Place takes you back in time. Service wonderful and can't do enough for you and fantastic food with the joy of a roast carved in front of you. Not cheap but worth every penny. Great for special occasions.01/05/2013 00:00:00Up to the usual high standardWe dine at Simpsons regularly, and this occasion lived up to the high standards of the rest.
As is usual, I had the beef, which was excellent. My partner had decided to try the lamb but on seeing my beef liked the look of that too, so the carvers were happy to let her have both, which was a nice surprise.
As always, the service was excellent, attentive but not obtrusive. We both love the atmosphere here, like stepping back in time to when values and standards mattered.
Another great evening.01/05/2013 00:00:00Roast BeefWe went to the theatre and had dinner afterwards. The duck liver pate was smoothly gorgeous, although as always everywhere not enough brioche, toast , bread. The roast beef was wonderful, the yorkshires were enormous as was the amount of beef and the horsradish was fresh. Good value for money and an all round great experience.28/04/2013 00:00:00very specialfood was very good. Recommend roasts from the trolley28/04/2013 00:00:00Great food and service; goodGreat food and service; good choices on the fixed price menu; overseas visitor was impressed and happy. The beef trolley
and waiters were highly professional. Can recommend heartily.26/04/2013 00:00:00Setting the scene: Our seatingSetting the scene: Our seating choice of seating in the booth did not disappoint; made our party feel special, private, cosy and relaxed ready to enjoy your excellent service. To be given a taster of the Soup of the day, with a hint of curry and croutons, how exquisite! Saddle of lamb, cooked to perfection.25/04/2013 00:00:00Lunch at Simpsons in The StrandA special treat for my 70th birthday having been to Simpsons in The Strand only once before many years ago.
My wife and i had lunch preceded by a drink in the upstairs bar with fascinating photos of past patrons and associates.
The lunch was an excellent experience in every way. Outstanding staff with attention to detail and food quality second to none.
We just had to return to the bar for a Port and keep on with the experience.
Lunch as it used to be in the Good Old Days when we had time to dwell and reflect.
I would recommend this excellent establishment for this experience and all round quality.22/04/2013 00:00:00The perfect Sunday LunchThe minute you walk through the door you feel like you're somewhere special. The building & decor stunning and a warm & charming welcome. We had a pre-lunch drink upstairs in the bar which had a lovely art deco feel to it, the perfect place for a G&T, which arrived with a delicious selection of nuts. The restaurant is simply stunning, a beautiful wood panelled room with ornate ceiling. Service was impecable. We both had the sunday roast and that really was a treat, delicious roast beef carved at your table and a very generous amount too, served with a massive yorkshire pudding, veg and gravy. My husband asked for more gravy and the waiter was happy to oblige. We then had a selection of puddings to share, all of which were heavenly. 5 Stars!21/04/2013 00:00:00great starter (fishcake) yougreat starter (fishcake) you must have the beef for your main. not fussed on the roast potatoes though. Pity.20/04/2013 00:00:00like dining in a movieWhen entering this restaurant, it was like I stept into a movie. Great interior, the theater of two cooks serving the roast, the nicely dressed and humorous friendly staff - it was the complete picture.
I always thought that English food was something to avoid... but after my diner at Simpson's I know better. Great food in the most impressive atmosphere I've ever witnessed.
Hans van Os (from The Netherlands)19/04/2013 00:00:00Roast beef as it should beFor my wife's special birthday, staff couldn't have been more accommodating, the pre-ordered wine was great, and no one does roast beef like Simpson's does.19/04/2013 00:00:00Perfect british foodThis is probably the best place to eat Roast-beef.
The ambiance is elegant and the piano is a touch of excellence.
The service is perfect and very careful.18/04/2013 00:00:00special eventFirst visit in London for one of us, found it as an event different from other events. The location very special and the service exceptionel. We had a great moment to remember, thank's for the birthday cake, that was nice. We look foreward to visit Simpson and other time, to get great food at a great place.16/04/2013 00:00:00Grand old ladyIf you are looking for an olde world English restaurant, this is for you. Attached to the Savoy, the wood panelled room is splendid. The food is fine English . Solid, but not spectacular.15/04/2013 00:00:00Anniversary SpecialDining at Simpson's for our anniversary made the day even more special. The food was excellent. The service was exceptional. We will return with friends.13/04/2013 00:00:00Special 60th Birthday TreatThe outstanding service and attention to detail was thorough and given effortlessly and genuinely. The staff "read" their clientele very well in that they were very attentive when encouraged, and seen but not heard when otherwise appropriate. Menu is well explained; wine sommelier is very knowledgeable and keen to hear of other country wines; portion size is very good and the food and menu is delectable The most Special birthday treat I have ever experienced with all staff going that extra distance to make it a truly memorable experience. My only comment is that it was all over too quickly.12/04/2013 00:00:00Step back in time, in styleWood panelling and period chandeliers create a very unforgettable ambience. The piano was a distraction - good atmospheric background, but the quality of selection left a lot to be desired. Great service and the roast absolutely delicious!09/04/2013 00:00:00Dinner at the StrandExcellent all the way around. Super soirée !06/04/2013 00:00:00Memorable lunchMade to feel very welcome, excellent service and lovely food. A must for a return visit04/04/2013 00:00:00English breakfastOur group of four had a proper English breakfast. The tables were comfortable. The woodwork and ambience was old world excellent. The wait staff was the right amount of attentive. The best part was the food: it was hot and tasty, especially the black pudding. Highly recommended.03/04/2013 00:00:00Set in an historic building,Set in an historic building, Simpson's still provides up-to-date service, food and hospitality.31/03/2013 00:00:00Dinner 4 2Had a wonderful dinner. A great place for meat eaters! The roast carvery was divine, tender and right temperature. The starters are good and quite a variety. The waitstaff was attentive but not intrusive. It was a wonderful meal.30/03/2013 00:00:00Special occasion mealThe whole experience was wonderful. The only complaint is that the potatoes in the hot potato salad were a litle hard; otherwise an excellent meal. My wife received unexpected Happy Birthday wishes, which pleased her greatly.30/03/2013 00:00:00Wonderful setting. Good food. The setting is what you would expect from The Savoy - special. In fact, amazing. Service was good The food was good traditional British food but having eaten is several good restaurants it was not quite as I had hoped. Still an amazing setting for special occasions.28/03/2013 00:00:00Excellent Service very goodExcellent Service very good food and Wine . Very good atmosphere.27/03/2013 00:00:00I live in India. Having readI live in India. Having read characters in many books that I had read (Bertie Wooster, Sherlock Holmes) speak about Simpsons on the Strand I had always wanted to visit and eat in this iconic restaurant. Before leaving India for a, short visit to London, I used Toptable to book a table (easy and convenient). Subsequently I had to change the timing, but Toptable was most obliging. So on a cold windy day I walked from Charing Cross station and indulged in a lunch of Scottish beef followed by treacle pudding.
It was a delightful meal and I strongly recommend it to those wanting a taste of British cuisine.26/03/2013 00:00:00OutdtandingI haven't been to Simpsons for more than ten years, I'm glad to see that not much has changed...outstanding service, food and atmosphere!25/03/2013 00:00:00Great meal2nd visit to this establishment and it lived up to expectations. Go hungry and don't have a starter as portions are big! Great experience.24/03/2013 00:00:00
