A word from Simpson's In The Strand
Simpson's is one of the few London restaurants offering only the finest quality British ingredients cooked to perfection in classic British style. The restaurant's speciality is Scottish beef on the bone that has been aged for 28 days for maximum flavour. The beef is carved at guests' tables from antique silver-domed trolleys, which is a practice that began over 150 years ago and for which Simpson's is world-renowned. Other Simpson’s signature dishes include classics such as potted shrimps, roast saddle of lamb and steak and kidney pie.

Guests can also enjoy classic cocktails in Knight’s Bar, an art deco cocktail lounge located on the first floor. It is the perfect place to enjoy either a pre-dinner cocktail or after-dinner aperitif.

  • "My husband has always wanted to dine at Simpsons in the Strand and was very pleased when I told him that this was his birthday treat. He wasn't disappointed. We both enjoyed our meal immensely and the whole experience was something we will remember. The service is amazing and they were more than happy to accommodate my dietary needs. The potted shrimps were so tasty and the beef from the trolley was the most tender we have ever tasted. The sommelier advised us on our choice of red and he certainly knows his stuff!! Hope to come back again one day :)"

  • "We went for the beef. ! Aged 28 days it must be good, but they trade on their reputation. The Yorkshire puddings were served cold because they sit on the banquette for ages Plates were also cold. Ambience great, but the food did not add up to West End standards"

  • "I've been dining at Simpsons for years and always enjoy the whole experience. One of the best Restaurants in London"

  • "The experience of eating at Simpson's was excellent, exceeded all expectations."

  • "We had a lovely meal at this restaurant - where there were very attentive staff and the food was of an excellent quality. Small changes made to dishes without any fuss which was great. However I checked the website carefully before booking and it did not say that you could not have the fixed price menu on s Saturday evening before 7.00. I also saw others leave the restaurant on realising this. On leaving the restaurant I spoke to a member of staff about this and they said they were aware that the website was not accurate. Why have they not changed this?"

  • "We had a wonderful post theatre dinner to celebrate our mum's 70th birthday. The food was delicious and the waiting staff helpful and attentive. Pudding even came with a birthday candle!"

  • "The Ladies went to Simpson's for Saturday lunch - 2 birthdays to celebrate. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the food - especially those of us who had roast beef and all the trimings! Service was good. One of the party had worked in the kitchens many years ago, so after lunch we were treated to a visit downstairs!"

  • "We love the piano music at dinner but epically the 84 year old English gentlemen that my wife wanted to bring home with her. Great food and great service!!!"

  • "A unique experience from the pages of history. My 'gluten-free' friend didn't have a few asterisks and a footnote on the general menu: his own special menu, and delectable bread roll, were waiting on the table when we arrived. The staff make everyone, from Smith to Lord Rosebery, feel that they are valued and must have a wonderful time. The pianist was superb. Did I mention the food? Oh. Oh. If I could only ever go to one restaurant again then this would be it."

  • "My wife has dined here before but this was a new experience for me. What an experience. The service was excellent from the time we entered the building. The meal was superb and the advice from the sommelier was spot on. The staff made the evening special and we will certainly be going again when we are next in London"

  • "Been to Simpsons many times now and the experience never fails to impress. Beautiful food, beautifully prepared and beautifully served in beautiful surroundings. What more could you want?"

  • "I had been looking forward to visiting Simpsons in the Strand for quite a while. After hearing about their lovely Sunday lunches we had no doubt where to go whilst we were visiting London. The service was fine and the food was lovely. For the quality service we were expecting from a Savoy Hotel Restaurant, the waiter who was seeing to our drinks was quite hard to get hold of when we wanted more drinks and so decided not to order more wine. The Roast Beef was cooked to perfection. My husbands Beef Wellington was very rare considering he asked for medium and my fathers starter was delayed for quite a long time. But other than that, we had a lovely time. I would definitely return given the opportunity. Maybe for an evening next time."

  • "I would like to recommend this dining experience as a once in a lifetime occasion. The service was what you would expect from a high class establishment."

  • "Booked up Simpsons for pre theatre dinner at the Savoy theatre. Turned up at 6 and was assured that our waiters would be informed that we need to be away by 7:15 to get to theatre on time and would have no problem ordering a three course meal. Cut a long story short at 7.20 not even having ordered a starter course we had to leave as deserts came to our table again having been guaranteed we had plenty of time, in fact we arrived in our seats just before the curtain came up. So in our 1 hour 20 minutes we had a reasonable main course and that's it Very disappointing for all my family !"

  • "Excellent service in a relaxed but traditional restaurant. Great cocktails in the bar beforehand. Go for the Roast Beef.....it is fabulous!"
    dined on 05/04/2014
  • "Not the cheapest place to eat your Sunday lunch/dinner but surely one of the best. All that is good in a traditional roast wether it be a Sunday or not is distilled down by Simpson into an event that both locals and tourists enjoy. The prime rib of beef is served as you like it, and at this point it is worth mentioning that they are not shy of generous portion here! is ably supported by a cast of seasonal vegetables. All served by staff that seem to buy in to the Simpson's ethos of old school service and dependability, making the whole dining experience very special indeed. The only negative here would be the "Yorkshire Puddings" as they are a rather strange puffed up crispy ball of nothingness, not like real Yorkshires should be!"

  • "We took our son there for his 18th birthday and he loved the sense of occasion, so this was an ideal place to celebrate his father 's birthday and the imminent departure of same son to the Far East. The staff made sure the mood was celebratory and the famed roast beef was glorious. It is not cheap. But it IS a meal to remember with outstanding service to boot."

  • "A shadow of its former self. Meat no better than average. Vegetables luke warm and disappointing. Dessert was good. Restaurant layout has no ambiance and when virtually empty it is particularly unappealing. Our waiter was pleasant and efficient but the servers were very dull with no spark or flair. Eating at Simpsons used to be a fun, entertaining and rewarding experience. It is now just somewhere to eat at prices that no longer can be justified. Sadly I have had better food at a local carvery. It needs to get its act together fast or another British institution will soon be out of business."

  • "Consistently good food and service in a unique dining room and bar. Have eaten here many times and never dissapointed."

  • "I have been frequenting Simpsons for more years than I care to remember but throughout that time, it has always provided excellent food delivered with professional, attentive service. It may not be the most modern dining experience (for that look elsewhere) but for a wholly reliable, enjoyable and comfortable dining experience in the heart of London, Simpson's is hard to beat."
    dined on 31/03/2014
  • "I had last been to Simpsons 30 years ago and it was a real treat. On this occasion, the service was poor and the food was really not that good. In addition, the full price meal £30 only had one extra potato compared to the half plate £15! The waitors were not very professional, we could hear them chatting behind the customers backs and some of them were not able to understand English. We will not be returning."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "I had been to the restaurant before for my Mother's birthday but felt the service was even better then. I didn't have a side plate for my rolls. I didnt feel the service was as on point or we had as much as previous but was still pleasent."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "We have been to Simpson's several times before and as usual the food and service were excellent. The Divan Lounge is an evocative location which is only added to by the live piano music."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • ". We were bit very disappointed, our waitor was quite rude and abrupt, we ordered out main course (roast rib of beef) but he then turned on his heel and sped off without asking if that was all (we had wanted to order side orders or roast parsnips and carrots). We therefore had to call him back and request this, subsequently our side orders turned up 10 minutes later than our meal. All other tables and diners had napkins, ours did not and again we had to request this. The optional 12.5% had already been added to the bill at the end, otherwise I would have been reluctant to give that amount of money for poor service and general attitude to what is supposed to me a top dining experience."
    dined on 30/03/2014
  • "The salmon dish had very little [quantity] salmon with too many things on the side. Roastbeef was good. Ambience looked quite cheap, taking into account the 150 GBP bill."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "Overall a great experience. The food was excellent, particularly reccomend the roast rib of beef. In addition to the very high quality, some theatre where they carve at your table. Wonderful slick service. Portions are excellent. Great overall ambience"

  • "This is a very special place, which has maintained an exceptionally high standard of food and service for many years. The service is friendly, attentive and informative without being intrusive and the food is superb, especially the roast beef which is carved for you at your table. Simpsons is not cheap, but the high quality experience makes it good value for money."
    dined on 29/03/2014
  • "A wonderful relaxed, refined and elegant atmosphere. Service is quick and efficient and not over-fussy. A great way to start your day in London with breakfast at The Savoy and incredibly reasonably priced. My favourite thing to do in London and I'll let you into a little secret, it's by far the cheapest way to dine in these historic hotels and have a taste of the high life."
    dined on 26/03/2014
  • "The food was edible but nothing special. Certainly not worth the prices asked e.g. £4 for each small saucer sized vegetable portion, £11 for 4 very thin pieces of cheese with biscuits/oversweet chutney etc. Cheapest bottle of wine is upper £30 range. Our average meal for two + 12.5% service charge was nearly £160."
    dined on 20/03/2014
  • "Very attentive service, which made the difference between an OK meal and a great meal. Lamb and beef cut and served at the table, tasted good. The Yorkshires looked so good, they kindly gave me one to eat with my lamb (yes I know!). Sat in a booth, which made service for the staff difficult (reaching over) so ask for a table, there is a beautiful table at the far end near the fire/painting. They presented a fantastic inscribed dessert to my mother for her birthday which I had arranged with no more than a short note, a nod and a wink via the maitre'd, which other restaurants get so so wrong with all the planning in the world. Very impressive guys, thank you."

  • "We booked at Simpson's in the Strand for a treat but it was overall very disappointing. Most of all it was expensive for the quality and range of food available. And worse even still, basics like the mashed potato was lumpy! Almost a sin. We had asked for Dauphinoise potato to accompany our beef wellington and the only potatoes they had was mashed or fried. The waiter didn't know what Dauphinoise was and referred to the kitchen and came back and said they would try and make some Saute potatoes and add cream!! They did and it was a predictable mess and the mash was lumpy too!!! Overall as I say a disappointment and the price, oh yes £239 for two of us"
    dined on 24/03/2014
  • "We attended Simpsons on a Sunday lunchtime. Our family group ranged in age from 8-74! Everyone had a great time and the food was nice. The wine was also enjoyable. The bill for 6 people came to £600 so not a cheap experience but it represented value as you felt you had enjoyed a special occasion."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "Took my "other half" for his 40th birthday for Sunday lunch, quite an achievement as he has an avertion to London and small portions!!!! Simpsons-in-the-strand cured this perfectly! Superb surroundings, ambience, service and food, could not fault. A special touch was a "birthday" pud and the pianist playing "happy birthday" only marred by some diners dressing as if they we out for a "pub chain" lunch. We booked again the second we got home"

  • "Going to see bodyguard in strand and this restaurant very convenient. I did not expect much from a restaurant steeped hi heritage and history but the staff were wonderful very welcoming and the English menu was really good I have never tasted steak and kidney pudding that good the fish cakes in butter sauce very tasty indeed I will be back"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "Many customers obviously appreciate the decorum. If your into live piano, dust, booking in advance and the Strand, then Simpson on the Strand is quite obviously for you. As a foody, I highly recommend against booking a table. You'll pay enough money to buy you lunch in an excellent restaurant, and get nothing more than decent meat (and passable wine)."
    dined on 23/03/2014
  • "A return visit for us. Ideally located venue for a pre or post theatre dining experience. Excellent food and wine choices with superb service - for instance beef carved at your table. Make sure you book in advance for evenings"
    dined on 22/03/2014
  • "I was very disapointed with the whole experience dinning here. The savoy has a lovely reputation for excellent service, and customer care. The whole night felt cheap especially for the amount of money we were paying. As soon as we arrived we were given a time that we had to vacate our table. The tables are cramply set out and your table touches the table next to yours, unless you are situated on the sides of the room. There are far few waiters than is required so most of the seating we had empty plates on our table. Our waiter had very poor english and was unable to give any discription about specific meals. The chocolate and hazelnut triangle desert was given the discription of ' it is chocolate and it is hazelnut'."

  • "Superb roast beef carved at the table (signature dish). One joint medium well and the other medium rare. The dining room was old style with dark wood. The tables were not on top of one another. The service was exceptional. An ideal place for Saturday lunch. Probably do not need to eat in the evening."
