Silk Room Restaurant & Champagne BarFantastic food, outstanding serviceYou'll be spoilt for choice at the silk rooms. The range of all courses will provide something to suit everyone, I am certain! The food we sampled was sumptuous and beautifully presented. Booking is advisable. The restaurant was fairly busy, but it wasn't noticeable at all due to ample staffing. The drinks menu is extensive, with champagne available by the glass. The cocktails, while on the expensive side, were absolutely delicious. One thing to note is being careful to look at what is included in the main meals as a side dish is often required to complete the meal in my opinion. The desert in particular was delicious. I had the raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake.08/06/2013 00:00:00Beautiful RestaurantThe ambience when you walk in is amazing, the champagne choice is Wow, and the food will send you to heaven for the evening. It might look expensive, but you have to pay for this kind of quality, and when you experience a night there, you will realise that it is worth every penny. I've paid a lot for meals in restaurants that charge a lot, serve up standard stodge and have left me feeling a bit ripped off. But at The Silk Rooms, The service was perfect, the timing of the food was perfect, the presentation was perfect, the steak was cooked to perfection for my pregnant wife and the burger was so juicy. What I'm trying to say is that in terms of value for money, there is nowhere better. I will definitely go back we had a wonderful night.18/05/2013 00:00:00ExcellentWe went to the Silk Rooms for lunch. It was fabulous. Great service and outstanding food.17/05/2013 00:00:00May Birthday TreatAfter reading the reviews on the website prior to booking, we were pleased to choose this venue for my birthday treat! A lovely warm welcome was received. First impressions - classy romantic venue with attentive low key service. The fillet steak was first class. If in Newcastle again we will return.10/05/2013 00:00:00Lovely evening for twoBeautiful location and excellent dining experience for two. Took my partner for a evening meal and really enjoyed it. Best Monkfish we have ever eaten and all food top drawer14/04/2013 00:00:00Great food and really goodGreat food and really good value. Small restaurant which is lovely.12/04/2013 00:00:00First class!Visited for the first time and have to say the whole experience was first class. In fact it was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The restaurant is small and very nicely decorated and the staff were very warm and friendly. The scallops and duck terrine starters were excellent and the steak and sea bass mains were just as good. We finished by sharing a delicious warm brownie and a couple of champagne cocktails. Good wine menu too. Overall could not have been better. Will definitely return.09/04/2013 00:00:00Lovely cosy restaurant withLovely cosy restaurant with friendly staff. The food is well prepared and presented.31/03/2013 00:00:00Birthday DinnerBooked up for a special birthday dinner and I have to say the whole experience from start to finish was amongst the best we've had in any restaurant. Will definitely visit again!16/03/2013 00:00:00Good FoodWe have been to the silk room several times and the food has always been of good quality. Would recommend it!12/03/2013 00:00:00GreatFantastic food with a great atmosphere, would certainly recommend. Service was really good and very friendly. Was recommended by a friend and the Silk Room did not disappoint. Would defiantly return in the future.09/03/2013 00:00:00Romantic mealIntimate restaurant, nice decor in a contempory style, and we were given a lovely table near the window. My wife had the hens egg with goats cheese starter followed by lamb shank, & I had scallops to start then fillet steak & king prawn main course, all of which were excellent quality and cooked very well.
Only criticisms I have is that it took staff a long time to come to take drinks orders at the start, then again for the food order, and again for the dessert/coffee. Each time we were trying to catch someones attention for a while, although food came quickly.
Also, the king prawns on the steak were an additional £4 yet only two prawns were served, which was disappointing.
Overall though we had a very enjoyable experience at Silk Room.09/03/2013 00:00:00Super ServiceAte dinner at Silk Rooms with party of 6 on 2nd March. Food very good, particularily the Fish Cake starter. Wagyu Kobe Burger was also very good and compared to London prices was good value. Stand out tho was the service. It was polite, attentive, friendly and always available. In fact at one point it felt like a private dining experience even tho the place was busy.
Would I return again, soon? Definitely.02/03/2013 00:00:00Great pre-theatre mealAfter looking at all the options available we settled for the Silk Room restaurant prior to going to the theatre, and really glad we did. It is a little out of the way for some - about a 10 minute walk from the theatre itself - and tucked out of the way a bit unless you know the area extremely well, but it is worth it.
We had three courses from the 'early' menu, which had more than enough choice on to suit most people, and coming in at under 40 pounds is excellent by any ones account; plus we had an excellent Chenin Blanc at a very reasonable price to match.
We arrived there at around 5-50pm and was still out for 7pm, but it didn't feel rushed at all - the service was exceptionally good.28/02/2013 00:00:00Best food I have ever had!Was an amazing atmosphere perfect for my partners birthday, I very romantic setting and the food was outstanding cooked to perfection, amazing tastes we will definitely be paying them a visit again soon!22/02/2013 00:00:00outstanding!The food at this place was yet again outstanding! The steak was chargrilled on the outside and pink in the middle - just melt in the mouth! My husband had the scallops (which were a little over priced for the portion size in our opinion) but I am think given the chance he would have licked the plate clean!! He then had the monkfish which again he said could have done with some potato or something extra but was abolsutely gorgeous in flavour.
We will certainly be back soon!16/02/2013 00:00:00Valentines dayI chose this place for the fact they serve steak, which my boyfriend loves, and apparently the stakes were pretty good ones at that! When we arrived we were seated, atmosphere was very romantic, there wasn't much for me to choose from, as i don't like meat and as it was valentines day it was a set menu, I had the cod, which was standard plus dressing and potatoes but the steak came on a wooden platter with a small bucket of chips which were delicious. Dessert was a milk and white chocolate fondu, with two wooden spears, marshmallows and cut up fruit, a very fun desert to share. The meal came to £92 and we tipped £10 probably had a bit too much wine but because of our generosity and because we didn't have a starter we got a shot of amaretto.14/02/2013 00:00:00Anniversary MealGreat restaurant with friendly waiters and amazing food. Definitely a good one for that special occasion, went to celebrate 2 year annivesary. House champagne was very nice to start, as were the starters. we then had kangaroo steak and monkfish, both were very good. The menu certainly has some interesting food options, portions are decent, not too big that you end up stuffing yourself but also not tiny gourmet style portions. We shared a bottle of red and eventually a pudding. Our bill came to about £100, well worth it for that special occasion. I would definitely go back, especially for the kangaroo steak .05/02/2013 00:00:00Dinner at Silk RoomWe went to the Silk Room in Newcastle for a birthday dinner as the menu looked good and it had availability on a saturday night. The food was very good, especially the monkfish. Unfortunately we did not have room for dessert. The staff were friendly and service good. The only thing is there was a limited choice of beers actually in stock and the only draught beer wasn't available either. Good wine and champagne list instead though. Would go back to Silk Room.25/01/2013 16:00:00YummyFood was delicious - dessert was pretty small though! We ordered the Kobe burger and it was absolutely delicious, staff were very attentive and friendly, definitely reccommend the Silk Rooms for a lovely dinner, romantic atmosphere!18/01/2013 16:00:00Superb Silk RoomThis restaurant has a relaxed intimate feel and seems luxurious because of the simmering silk hangings which separate the room into smaller areas. The food is often locally sourced, perfectly cooked and also beautifully presented. The portions are just the right size so that it is possible to enjoy a dessert without feeling overfed. Too many restaurants seem to feel that massive portions are a sign of excellence when in fact they are off-putting, particularly for older diners whose appetites have grown smaller with age! The owner makes a point of employing postgraduate students as waiters who are bright, friendly and always interesting to talk to. As the restaurant is also a champagne bar, it is a splendid place for a celebration.21/11/2012 00:00:00olympic perfectionduring a busy time in london during the olympics, this was a delightful experience and would recommend to any london visitor15/09/2012 00:00:00
